happy friday friends! flashback friday is on hiatus as i do not have my laptop with all my archived photos with me. sorry charlies, i might do it tomorrow :)
so, yesterday i did not open my laptop or look at a computer monitor once and guess what? it was glorious. i just enjoyed time with my family, marshall & the dogs.. played games, worked out, ate SO much food and didn’t think about internet land. but i DID think about all of you~who i am incredibly thankful for :)
SO i have a lot to post since i have not posted since tuesday—wow, i think that is the longest i have ever gone without a post! but i went out with my ladies wednesday and that was of the utmost importance.
starting where i left off~wednesday!
i wanted to celebrate national parfait day and i even emailed the parfait queen herself about it.. but alas, i didn’t have the essential items at work to make a parfait, so i celebrated waffle wednesday instead!
two kashi golean blueberry waffles topped with oikos+chocolate PB2 & sprinkled with cinnamon~
lunch was enjoyed by my favorite experimentarian! we went to whole foods and snagged some salad bar action~
i love emily and i love the chile coated tofu. the end.
i had a stellar lower body workout wednesday night.. i am not going to go into the deets because i have SO much to post, but know that i worked my calves SO hard that i literally am hobbling around today and cannot straighten my legs properly. it is that part right below the back of my knee that has killer DOMS. hurts so good!
wendesday dinner was not the healthiest but it was the quickest and cheapest! did you guys know that chipotle offers kid’s meals?! i did not. but now i do. for a mere $3,50 plus tax i got a chicken & cheese kid’s quesadilla which came with a small side of black beans, a small side of rice, a small bag of tortilla chips and a drink. i opted to for go the drink and most of the rice. but i did clean up the quesadilla, beans and chips.
i spent the rest of the evening hanging out with friends at the REAL salt lake championship party.. i mean, salt lake city cannot say much for their sports teams but our soccer team did win the cup on sunday.. that’s pretty fun.
ok! moving on..
thursday! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
i woke up and made myself an americano and left for my parents’ house. before any thanksgiving feasting went on, my mom and i completed a total body workout almost identical to the one i did last saturday.. with a little help from penelope jane!
as soon as i get done with this post i am going to start working on my moves section, we photographed every single move we did! stay tuned :)
after our killer workout we cleaned ourselves up and worked on finishing up the feast my mom had started to prepare in the kitchen.
instead of making whole wheat rolls from scratch i took the easy way out and snagged these warm-and-serve all natural rolls from whole foods:
i also made some candied sweet potatoes as per my dad’s request.. although i would have been fine with cheetahs ;) here they are pre-baked..
i whipped up a quick batch of deviled eggs again..
my mom made some yummy white rolls which were served with her homemade raspberry jam (best jam ever!!)
also on the menu: corn, mashed potatoes, cauliflower & broccoli and mixed fresh fruit (pineapple, raspberries, grapes & pears)~![]()

and my baked candied sweet potatoes~
my faaaavorite part.. stuffing!
two traditional items for a benson family thanksgiving: sweet pickles & black olives~
and we can’t forget the apple cranberry sauce~
and last, but certainly not least, turkey! my mom did a spectacular job of roasting her second turkey of the week.
my mom collects unique salt and pepper shakers and two cute sets were on the table for our feast~
it was a fantastic spread~not as extravagant as our sunday family feast~but still just as delicious!!
my plate~and my cute turkey napkin!
the only thing i went back for was more stuffing! i cannot get enough of that stuff. and to think, marshall hates it! he’s crazy.
i officially stuffed myself again. we spent some time lounging on the couches while enjoying the crackling wood burning stove and some game show network :)
after a couple hours i did managed to have some obligatory pumpkin pie with fresh whipped cream~
and after this i was officially done for. and so was everyone else.. especially randy the dog :)
we played our favorite game~boggle~ and GUESS WHAT? hell froze over and my mom beat me at boggle!! good job mom, you are amazing!
we spent another hour or so on the couches, cuddling with the dogs and digesting all that FOOD.

marshall and i eventually managed to peel ourselves off the couch and pack up some leftovers (thanks mom!!) and go to his house for some more laying around. i was going to blog but i decided to leave my laptop in my houndstooth bag and just enjoy the evening hanging out with those i love. i hope you all had the chance to do the same.
i am going to minus the bear tonight.. which happens to be my favorite band EVER.. so i am really excited! i am actually taking today off from exercise because i wasn’t kidding when i said i can’t walk right. the DOMS in my calves is ridiculous! but i will be back at it tomorrow with some HIIT and on sunday i will be doing an upper body workout and finally go snowboarding! i haven’t gone yet this weekend because 1- there is no new snow which makes it really not worth it and 2- fighting the crowds for sub par snow conditions is a waste of my time. the crowds are also the reason i do not participate in black friday shopping!
anyway, enough rambling from me! hope you are all enjoying your friday and check back later for some total body workout tips and a possible delayed flashback friday saturday post!
Qs~
1. did you exercise yesterday or take the day off from working out? i felt really good after my workout yesterday and i am really glad i took the time to complete it. in years past, i would not be caught dead working out on thanksgiving.. i am so glad my habits are different now days!
2. did you participate in black friday shopping? any gnarly stories about crazy shopper encounters?? i hope nobody got trampled to death this year..
xo. janetha b.

All that food looks amazing and healthy! I’m so jealous of people that have healthy holidays. Of course that doesn’t stop me from eating the crap at my families gatherings ;)
You know I was cardioing it up! This morning too.
No shopping for me on this day EVER! Unless it’s online.
Amen to technology breaks and fabulous Thanksgiving celebrations! :)
1.) yoga
2.) no Black Friday shopping – too many crazy people out, haha.
have fun at the concert dude :)
you’re tday round 2 looks almost as good as your round 1. i showed deej your goat cheese sweet potato dish and she put it on the xmas dinner menu while mopping up her pool of drool
i did indeed do a tad cardio on turks day!
You mean there’s life beyond spending countless hours catching up on google reader?! ;) glad to hear your enjoyed your tech. detox as well, does the soul good!
I absolutely love the mommy daughter photo shoot. I’m pretty sure my mom doesn’t even know what a dumbell is.
amaze food fair! hope you had a fabbie gobble gobble day, J! LOVE YOU!
Ooh, you are going to a show where I’ve heard of the band! Usually, I’m like who?
My mom and I are big Bogglers. She usually beats me though. Do you have an Iphone? There’s a version of Boggle for it that I have.
Okay, first, I’m SO jealous I wasn’t there to lunch with you and Emily!!! I was there in spirit, mmkay?
Second, I can’t believe you guys did another turkey dinner! That’s dedication. I remember one year my mom got lazy and made a lasagna :P
1. I ran 9 miles when we celebrated Thanksgiving here. It’s nice for the calorie intake, but honestly, I just like working out before a big meal because it makes me hungry! And I don’t feel as gross and stuffed after.
2. I don’t think we have Black Friday here? I was at the mall Thursday night and it was dead.
Have fun at the concert!!!
Thanks for notifying me of parfait day ;)
What a fun lunch Wednesday! That “family” pic of you, Marshall, and the puppers is too cute! That stuffing is worth the 2nd helping! One of my favorite dishes :)
Your doggy penelope is the cutest EVER! Looks like u had a great Thanksgiving! you and mama r sooo pretty! I ran a 10k yesterday as my workout, and skipped the crazy crowds to swim! Black friday scares me! hope u have a great weekend! i can’t wait to hear about your boarding trip on sun!
SO much to comment on! Looks like you had a blasty with your friends on Wednesday night. I was sick as a dog, so I didn’t make it out unfortunately.
Um, wow, can I have your mom’s gym? That’s freakin’ awesome. And I swear, dogs hate when humans workout LOL. My pup does the same thing:)
I worked out yesterday a little bit – I was still a wee bit sick, so I took er easy, but I still got in some cardio and lower bod action.
I did participate in black Friday! But online…scored a front loading washer/dryer! Hells yes!
wow loved this monster post!!!
looks like you had a blast with your friends. and workin out with yo momma! i worked out w. my mom today…its fun to make fun of her (in a loving way)
and what a great thanksgiving FEAST! love it!
Another sensational THanksgiving for you! How fortunate that you were able to enjoy this occasion twice in the same week.
I did my traditioanl Turkey Trot 5k which I LOVE doing on Thanksgiving morning. Nothing like running a race for a good cause of the day of thanks.
Hell NO did I venture into HELL today. Sadly I had to work, but my hubby went out and almost got demolished by the crazies. ;)
Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend love!
I had an awesome wokout yesterday! I ran to the beach, ran barefoot on the beach, then ran back from the beach and did strides. I sprinted up to 5:30 minute mile which for me is really good. But I suck at strength training. So I’m looking forward to your tips! Have fun at the concert tonight!
What a fun and yummy day!! I love your mom’s salt and pepper shakers :)
1. My aunt, my mom and I created our own 3.2 mile “Turkey trot” yesterday morning before the festivities. We all felt great for the rest of the day!
2. I did not (and have never) taken part in Black Friday, haha I’d rather spend money than save it and be trampled.
“so, yesterday i did not open my laptop or look at a computer monitor once and guess what? it was glorious. ”
I have a prewritten post that will go out addressing the very nature of being overly connected. I need to try to unplug more girl, i hear ya!
The candied sweet pots, the pumpk pie slice with REAL whipped, and your plate of cute piles of food that don’t touch or blend into each other (like I made for skylar LOL) all look fabulous!!!!!
wow, happy day my friend, lots of love to you!!!!
xoxo
1) I did not work out on thanksgiving – it was my “rest” day this week. Although I didn’t really rest my belly. I ate a lot of delicious food and it was awesome. Then first thing this morning when I awoke I went for a lovely 4 mile run and it felt glorious.
Your T-Day looks so good. Rock on for doing a full-body work out! That has to feel so good.
2) Hell NO. Get that away from me. Shopping on Black Friday sounds so hellacious to me. Yuck.
Your candied sweet potatoes look so good lady! x
HAPPY THANKSGIVING LADY!
no workout, no shopping – just movies, family games and lotsa good food!!!!!!!!
Canadian thanksgiving was last month, but all these bloggy pictures of Thanksgiving dinners makes me want a repeat. Your plate is so colourful!
aww you and marshall are so cute together :) i did go shopping today! express had a sale of 20% off the whole store – i went on a spree lol. unfortunately i havent worked out because i left my sneakers in my dorm! i was sooo mad.
i love me some stuffing too :)
STUFFING. My fav too by far. I could go through thanksgiving eating nothing but stuffing and feel completely satisfied, though that probably wouldn’t be my wisest decision ever.
Glad you had such awesome turkey dinners, everything looks delicious! No thanksgiving or black fridays going on over here in Canada but I also did not do any shopping today… or working out for that matter haha. Ah well!
Have a good weekend and enjoy the concert!!
High five on the stuffing loving! It’s my favorite part. Even though we skipped turkey, I still made stuffing! Who cannot LOVE stuffing????? Oh wait, I’ll betcha my scale does. not. love. it.
Anyhoo, I did two hours of gratitude yoga yesterday and my hamstrings are KILLING me.
Because the sun came out today, we went on a day trip. NO Black Friday shopping for me EVER. We did have to pass an outlet mall today and traffic wasn’t that bad though there was an accident ahead. Those people had probably been up since 4 am for the sales and should have been paying more attn!
Glad you had a great Gobble Day! (PS so jealous of your mom’s gym! And my pets are always climbing all over me when I’m trying to do a workout DVD).
Love that Penny hits the weight room like she means it! :-)
Marshall needs to have his head examined if he doesn’t like stuffing. You don’t have to break up with him though.
1. Yes! Did my fave stair case running workout. Thank goodness for that.
2. I’d rather poke my eyes out with sharp hot needles than shop on Black friday!
I worked today so early morning black Friday shopping was not an option. However, Snuff and I were going to pick up her Christmas dress …then I was warned that the mall was still a madhouse this evening! What a gorgeous dinner!
Oh goodness that sweet potato casserole thingie looks good! I’ve actually never had sweet potato casserole but I know I’d love it!
I worked out yesterday.. my family is so laid back about thanksgiving that it didn’t really matter if I left to go to the gym!
And tell your mom she has some rockin’ biceps!
You and your mom are just too cute! And that waffle breakfast looks delish!! Ha and my mom’s equally obsessed with stuffing…you two gotta meet, well…we need to meet too!!! :)
Glad you got a nice workout in Janetha! My mom and I also went for a nice walk with our dog but held out on Black Friday shopping!! Nooooo thanks. Too chaotic for me! XOXO!
I want that stuffing. Love WF even if the salad bar at SH was just as craptastic as the other one–better next time. Love YOU!!!! The end. xoxo
Looks like an awesome day :D Family time sans the technology is much needed sometimes. I want some of that stuffing- yum. Those s + p shakers are so cute!
you and your mama are so dang cute. I can’t even handle it.
i loveeeeeeeeeeeeee your adorable thanksgiving plate. it is so “CLEAN” with food. very eye pleasing and neat
and seriously…..you always have SO MUCH amazing food on your blog. drooling
KISSES MISSES
Hi! I just stumbled upon your blog and I really like it. I read about your BFL story. Congrats on that accomplishment. Those after photos are amazing. I read through a few posts that said you gained back a bit of the weight and you’re trying to get back to your “after” weight. Well, I believe in you and it seems like you’re a very motivated person…you can do it. I’ll defenitely be checking back to read your blog again.
I love the salt & pepper shakers!
1. Yes, we worked out on Thanksgiving morning, and it was a really nice start to the day. :)
2. Yes, the teenager, and I got up at 4:00 a.m. to hit the stores by 5. He made me stand in line at Best Buy for an hour, but it was fun to have some one-on-one time with him… :)
i went for 2nds and 3rds of stuffing i’m pretty sure. i’m obsessed with it!!! hehe. glad thanksgiving was amazing girl! :) xoxox
http://saladdiva.wordpress.com
Hellz yeah for the three fitty dilla. Love a good deal!
All the food looks great! Glad you had a good time :)
1. I didn’t work out on Thursday, but I worked out yesterday and today :)
2. I went to the mall because I needed an outfit for a date – but the whole Black Friday thing was just a thorn in my side.
Have a good weekend dear!
I love your posts and all the pictures you always put up – it always makes for a fun read.
I usually teach a class on Thanksgiving morning every year so YES I always exercise! If I don’t teach then I will run at home or in a turkey trot downtown. NOOOO…do NOT partake in Black Friday. I don’t much like shopping as it is and I can’t stand crowds. Not worth it to me..
That is one good lookin’ bird! The turkey isn’t bad either..heheh…your mom has an awesome home-gym!! How fun that you guys worked out together. :)
What a great feast we had! I may not cook for a few weeks haha!
Yes, exercise was great – I AM still sore but I love it anyway!!
Nope, I slept in and then bummed around town – stayed away from the crowded malls!
xoxo
i am so inspired by your moves ‘n’ stuff. can you be my personal trainer? i am so bad (lazy?) with gym stuff, it’s terrible! food looks fantastic, and your mom seems like an awesome chica. the end.
Hey there! Took a much needed break from cyber space to regroup. Now that I’m back in the groove catching up on some of my favorite blogs. :)
Okay those picture of you with the weight and your dog sticking his head through is TOO CUTE!!!
I shopped a little from home on Black Friday. Took the day off and the day after from exercising.
I did a weight workout & elliptical on Thursday before feasting :) this included LUNGES which killllllled my legs!
Friday was my rest day because Saturday morning I ran a very HILLY 5 mile race!!!
Then today was back to normal schedule with weights & elliptical ;-)
We also robbed ATL & express – at least it felt that way – mom had coupons galore.
i did not participate in black friday but i definitely participated in stuffing seconds! (and thirds, and fourths, and….)
Glad you had such a great holiday! I definitely worked out over the Thanksgiving break (2 55-minute walks + running through the airport on Thursday and Sunday with heavy luggage). No Black Friday shopping for me — too crazy!
