yodelayhehoo! how was your wednesday? all you hoped for and more? mine was not too shabby.
so something just happened. don’t you hate it when you use the bathroom at a house where 4 boys live and you get done peeing and realize there is not a stitch of toilet paper to be found? story of my life at marshall’s. luckily they did have a gigantor bag of cotton balls in the bathroom, not sure why, but just so you all know.. cotton balls can double as toilet paper in emergency situations. just sayin.
so a lot of you like your cottage cheese sweet. what the hell is wrong with you people?! i kid, i kid. but f’reals, sweet cottage cheese will never have my heart. i don’t even know if i dare try it with cinnamon a la k because i think it would taint my love affair with said spice. maybe one day, just not today. or tomorrow. and it is safe to say probably not friday either.
i did read some clever ideas about what to mix into cottage cheese though! so i thought i would share the clever bloggie brainstorming, even if i couldn’t get stoked on each idea:
- sophia digs it with kabocha, cinnamon, salt and pepper.. which i could see how you would consider that sweet.. but i would not be opposed to trying this!
- coco mixes it in oats and with nut butter.. okay, i cannot wrap my head around the nut butter thing, but i could def see it being good in spicy oats!
- abby mentioned that she used to eat it with graham crackers, although i prefer my grahams dipped in coffee (nom nom nom).
- ellie had a couple good ideas: mix it with raisins, red onions & thousand island dressing.. ok, i could do this SANS raisins, it would be good! and also she suggested mixing cottage cheese with egg whites & chopped spinach, add veggies & bake then top with mariara! one last suggestion she had was adding pesto to it for a sandwich.. mmm.
- lara mixes it with FF/SF pudding mix and says it tastes like cheesecake!
- jessie enjoys it stuffed inside zucchini pancakes along with some tomatoes and spike seasoning.
- coco mixes flax seed into hers, i need to do this soon, i have a HUGE thing of flax!
- muffy likes to add apples & peaches.
- steph mixes it with hummus, garbanzos or tuna.. right up my alley! she also has enjoyed it mixed with pineapple.
- kacy adds white beans & marinara to hers and says it tastes like lasagna.
- jenny mixes cottage cheese with raisins and cinnamon
- allison & becky like it in eggs
- lee eats it with nut butter, agave & cereal.. rando!
and my favorite answers..
sorry if i missed one of your stellar ideas! but hopefully that gives you a few new suggestions.. or in case you were wondering what evil tastes like, now you know.
onto the meals & moves!
well, the morning started out with a humungo waffle wednesday fail..
wah, wah, wah. (i don’t know how to type that noise.. but the “wah” sounds go from high to low.)
![]()
i didn’t have any nonstick spray, thought it would still be OK, guess not! ah well, better luck next week?
so i went with my standby…
meal 1: protein oats @ 8:30 AM
the oats were really creamy today, i think because i let them cook longer! i used lainie’s method of more water for more volume. where the crap has lainie been anyway?
topped it with with the mightiest of the maple again. yum. i love this stuff! and i love that a tablespoon of it goes a long way for not too many added cals. this is an action shot, i eat bits of the oats and bits of the peanut butter to get full enjoyment from both together!
marshall tried the mighty maple and said it tastes “just like normal peanut butter”..obviously his taste buds are broken. the boy also hates mushrooms and seafood. clinically insane.
i was still actually full when my lunch date rolled around at noon but it was planned and i had to attend! well, and i WANTED to! but i think the nut butter is what kept me full. i have made note of this for future planned lunch dates. usually i would just eat later, but a plan is a plan is a plan!
to jason’s deli i went!
meal 2: salad bar with added grilled chicken topped with hummus+cottage cheese @ 12:30 PM
![]()
mmmm.. veggilicious for sure! this had:
- romaine
- spinach
- bell peppers
- mushrooms
- cukes
- broccoli
- cauliflower
- sprouts
- feta
- sunflower seeds
- 1 hard boiled egg
- grilled chicken
- artichokes!
- peas

hummus and cottage cheese were meant to be. i am so stoked that jason’s salad bar has hummus!
i have been to many a salad bar in my day and jason’s has one of the best. i love it when salad bars have hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese (since i don’t usually like dressing on salads), sprouts & artichokes. i also love it when they have corn and garbanzos.. no luck this time.
i did not take advantage of the free ice cream at jason’s.. but this little gal did!
i am the proudest auntie neef around. oh, neef is my nickname, by the way.
SO, you guys, i was full the rest of the day! i didn’t even finish my whole salad but by the time 6 PM rolled around i was still really full.. i don’t know what it was!
i ended up going to my mom’s to workout.
upper body workout today! i alternated sets with some ab moves i snagged from april today! i did different things between every set of weights so i am not going to type them all out, but i stole some from her list and also did some of my favorites!!

good workout! i finally had some photos taken so i can work on adding something to my moves page! it will be slow growing, but i will eventually have everything that i like to do up there! i will have 4 moves up tomorrow, i will be sure to give you the linkage.
well i hate to say it but after my workout i was still full! i knew i needed some proper post-workout nutrition despite my full tummy so i sucked it up and ate!
meal 3: HONEYCRISP! & protein shake @ 7:30 PM?
um yeah, that is SEVEN whole hours and still full, NOT normal. i didn’t even eat a lot for breakfast or lunch, what gives? i am thinking maybe it had something to do with the fibrous veggies? because i usually eat them but i haven’t in awhile because of seattle.. so maybe my tum is just not used to it and all the fiber is keeping me EXTRA full? that is my only explanation. so weird though, i hate not being hungry! it is the pits!
anyway, this was my first honeycrisp of the season and they are my favorite apples evvvver!
and my shake consisted of a scoop of vanilla whey protein, a scoop of EAS muscle armor and ice+water. yum yum, tasted like a lime creamsicle!
P.S. the lighting at my mom’s is the worst. she has lots of halogen light bulbs all over in the ceiling so no matter where i shoot photos there are gnarly shadows! sad.
then i came up to marshall’s and got some prime photos of penelope playing with her baby..
THIS ONE.. is. the. best. hahahahahahaha! action shot! look at her flying ear and her crazy eye!
while i wish she was gazing longingly at me, i was holding her baby right by my face.. she sure is a cute pup though <3![]()
okay, i figure since i lacked food photos today i would fill this post up with that little scamp. love her.
i am still SO FREAKING FULLLLLLL though! it sucks! what gives? i better be real hungry in the morning.

Qs
1. what foods keep you full for hours on end? i wonder why i am so dang full.. it wasn’t the oats because i had those yesterday and they didn’t keep me full for long. it had to be the fibrous veggies! i know breakfast cookies keep some people full for a good 4 or 5 hours while they only keep others full for a couple hours. it is strange how the same foods have different satiety levels for different folks!
2. what are your favorite salad bar ingredients? i said mine above!

anything can go into a salad in my opinion! hhahaha
http://saladdiva.wordpress.com
Aww Penelope is adorable!
I stay super full from apples – I have to buy the small ones because I really cannot eat a full big one by myself, ridiculous I know.
My favorite salad bar ingredient is hard boiled eggs…I love them in salad with basically any type of dressing, but esp with a honey mustard type – holy yum!
I always look for cottage cheese and chickpeas on a salad bar. Ruby Tuesdays has some amazing pumpernickel croutons!
Hey sweetie, hopefully you saw my blogger comment reply about just grinding the chia’s in your Vita. 15 secs and you’re golden. And LMK how your treats turned out!!! Can’t wait to hear :)
Um I am TOTALLY bookmarking this page about cottage cheese–so many brilliant ideas! I like the lasagna esque idea with white beans and marinara. I like my cottage cheese sweet sometimes, don’t cringe!
My favorite salad bar ingredients are roasted vegetables, especially with the beloved root vegetables (ie sweet potato sweet potato sweet potato!) Also roasted red peppers, and hummus, because what kind of blogger would I be without hummus love.
Okkkkay, Okkkkay, I will have to try savory cottage cheese! Maybe balsamic would be good.
Favorite salad bar toppings are anything that I don’t usually use at home. This is usually fruit + candied nuts. Can you see that I like things sweet?! ;)
Haha, I was feeling the same way last night. I was so full and bloated but it still didn’t stop me from eating a little fro-yo before bed. ;) Nothing seems to ever stop me from some fro-yo!
Hope you have a great day!
eh~ I’m with you about savory cottage cheese! You’re not alone! :D
Oat bran with nut butter holds me for ages!!!! that’s why I need to cut it down in term of portion size, otherwise I won’t be able to eat again and that’s a NO for Coco ;)
favorite salad ingredient = any veggie is delicious but my latest love is red cabbage! crunch crunch!!!
Some days I can eat the same exact foods I had the day before and be ten times fuller for some reason. It really has to do with where my body is at that time, I guess. You’re still getting over being sick, so maybe your stomach is readjusting?
Anyway, oats, apples and avocados keep me full forever. As for salads? Everything green, including avocado, and then raw corn, peppers, mushrooms are a must, chickpeas, Greek yogurt and salsa (plain and mixed together) or cottage cheese, sauteed tofu, veggie burgers, carrots, sugar snap peas…love me big ass salads.
Oh my gahhh- Penelope!!! I wouldn’t mind 10 pics of her in every post!
Yeah, I don’t do cottage cheese anymore. It’s a bummer because I actually loved it. So salty and delicious.
This fullness is bizarre! I blame the odd weekend eats. For me, I have no clue what keeps me full for hours. I suppose whenever I eat out, but even then I feel as though the veganism prevents me from ordering things that would keep me super full. Oh wait. FRIES!!! Yes, that’ll do it.
Oh shooo salad toppings: chickpeas, avocado, celery, carrot, cucumber, tempeh, tofu, balls, edamame, green beans, snap peas, pickled ginger, tomatoes…uhhh anything!
Have a fabulous Thursday, love! xoxo
lol – I know EXACTLY what sound you were going for with the wah, wah, wah :)
LOVE the penelope action shots – the flying ear one is totally the best – i love it when the puppers get crazy and just want to attack the crap out of their toys :) now that is tenacity :) (I love how you can see Randy just layin on Marshall in the background!) ;)
thanks for the link lovin lady :)
Hmm, I’m wondering if your body is just reacting to your few days off exercise while in Seattle? I know my hunger is always delayed in relation to my activity. Like, if I run 8 miles, I won’t feel hungry until the next day. Or, if I take a full couple rest days, then my appetite decreases once I’m back in the gym. It’s like it takes a few days to catch up.
1. Toaster waffles, for whatever reason, keep me full forever. Why I’m so obsessed with them! Oh, and nut butter. A tablespoon makes a world of difference.
2. Boiled eggs or cottage cheese as well. Love it when they have some decent protein out there :)
1) Oatmeal and oat bran keep me full for a long time, especially when I add banana and nuts.
2) Favorite salad bar ingredients are definitely chickpeas, hard boiled eggs, artichokes, and roasted red peppers!
haha i coudlnt’ tell you the number of times that has happened to me with my waffle iron!!!! lol
sorry about the waffles! we’ve definitely done that before :)
1. what foods keep you full for hours on end? oatmeal does a pretty good job, or BIG breakfasts that include eggs.
2. what are your favorite salad bar ingredients?
I LOVE hard boiled eggs on salad bars. If they have that, i’m set. And some type of beans.
LOL! I LOVE the crazy eye!!!
Thanksgiving dinner keeps me full for days :) Not much else, hungry in 3 hours like a champ.
Salad bar: green pepper, onions, eggs, seeds, broccoli, cherry maters, peas, macaroni salad ;),
That is EXACTLY what happened when I first tried your protein waffle recipe!!!! HAHA, I didn’t want to post it because I felt like such a fool for not using non-stick spray!!
Those apple slices are so pretty….looks like one bigass apple too.
Your dog is adorable. I want one just like her, and I’m not even a dog person.
1) For some reason hummus and raw veggies keep me insanely full. Add some roasted kabocha and I’ve got a fiber filled food baby for hours.
2) Good question!! This is funny to me, I HATE making salads at home but at salad bars I go crazy! My favorites are beets, garbanzo beans, edamame, cottage cheese, sprouts, cucumbers, those little baby corns and sunflower seeds.
ahhhh i wish i had that feeling of being full on not so much food – i am pretty sure that NEVER happens to me. also, i love angharads and erin’s comments on CC. made me laugh.
yummmm on mighty maple – i have NOT found that yet but i will. i do have the cinnaraisinswirl and its amazing – there isn’t a whole lot of raisins either so i think it would be okay for you!
major waffle fail. love it.
ahhh the questions…what keeps me full. well, not a whole lot these days. marathon training has made my stomach more of a garbage disposal – food goes in, gets ground up, then needs more.
i like junk salads, the more toppings, the better.
Oh the only thing that keeps me full is 100g of steel cut oats made the proper Scottish way with water and salt, yum, yum – ok maybe a dollop of PB wings its way in sometimes but apart form that I”m ultra orthodox about my oats!
Your workouts are so inspiring!
That’s kind of what happened to me yesterday! I ate a normal size bowl of oats and I felt like I had eaten a rock or something. Not cool!!
I’m glad you enjoyed the ab moves! I’m sore today!
anything with banana can keep me full for hours :) i dunno what it is about that little bugger but i get so full!
i LOVE salad bars. especially ruby tuesday’s salad bar! veggies galore, all kinds of nuts, the most amazing pumperknickel “croutons” everrrr, light balamic vinaigrette, yummm!!
Sticky waffles!
1. Oatmeal does a great job at keeping me full.
2. My fave salad ingredients: spinach, beans, apple/pear, raisins, walnuts, tofu/tempeh, avocado, tomato.
I only like salad bars when they have edamame. That seems to be the bar for me…
:) You are so full of light and energy!
1) Hmmm… I actually have no idea! My stomach works in a way that I can eat and eat at a meal…and then 45 minutes later I feel full for hours! True life – I can power eat.
2) Garbanzos, corn, peas, steamed broccoli (when I at home I do diz), hummus, cucumbers, shredded carrots!!
Seriously you do have the cutest niece EVER!!! I love the stoned baby look…ohhh the effects of yummy ice-cream. :P
Oat bran with pumpkin is so heavy that it sits like a rock – literally- in my stomach. Meaning it almost hurts. However, nothing else really fills me up…i sometimes feel like my stomach is a bottomless pit.
oooh salad bars?? I love “asian style” with edemame, bean sprouts, and spring onion. However, BBQ chicken, black beans, corn, salsa and SWEET POTATO (roasted) probably sits at the top of my list. :)
Bahahaha to Penny!! She looks possessed. I can’t say I relate to being full for obsene amounts of time, because for some reason even when I overdo it with food I tend to get hungry again…
2) Fav salad bar ingredients are cottage cheese (duh) hardboiled eggs, sunflower seeds, chickpeas, and I always love adding a tiny scoop of whatever pasta salad they have (even though they are probably loaded with fat)
LOL on the cotton balls for TP sub, totally noted and totally laughing here!
I am cringing from the waffle wednesday fail. Uggghhhhh!
Healthy fats do seem to keep me full longer, that’s why I heart Larabar for snacks on the road! They are so easy to carry around and stash in a bag but also easily hold me over until I get home for the next meal!
Sometimes the stomach does weird things. Mine is currently singing the Star Wars Soundtrack. Talented, it is. (I’ve never watched those movies, I’m less nerdy than I sounded just then.)
Funny that Marshal could not taste the Maple, perhaps his taste buds are broken. However, I agree about the shrooms. Gag.
If cottage cheese tastes like evil, then me and Satan are biffles.
1. Hmmm… A whole pizza. I kid, I kid. Sort of.
2. Sunflower seeds, olives, artichokes, carrots, feta cheese, cukes, corn, beans, et all.
Have a good Thursday! Was my comment as long as your post?
Hey Janetha! I love, love, love salad bars! There is this all natural food store near my house that has the best ever salad bar! Some of my fav salad ingredients are their baked teriyaki tofu, garbanzo’s, beets (nom, nom), dried cranberries, peas, mushrooms, and spinach. Mmmmmm :)
Awww poor waffles! :(
Hmm off the top of my head…Oatmeal definitely fills me up for a long time!!
Awww! I love the action shot! Penelope has the best look on her face!
Thanks for posting my giveaway!
Oats with peanut butter keep me full for hours. It’s the perfect combo when I know I’ll have a long time between meals.
I love when salad bars have apples, grapes and different kinds of cheeses. Jasons salad bar is fantastic!
Sad face on the waffle fail – that is always a bummer :(
That is crazy that you were full so long on seemingly not-massively-filling foods. I would put money on it being the nut butter because I had PB in my oats this morning and they kept me full a good hour longer than normal. Nom nom.
1) I find that a decent sandwich/wrap (i.e. carbs) at lunch filled with turkey and hummus and veggies tides me over aaaages. carbs + protein + healthy fat = fullness.
2) If I find roasted beets at the salad bar I get excited. Beans also excite me (wow, my life is rich), sauteed tofu is a beauty to find too and avocado at a salad bar pretty much sends me over the edge!
I just ate (literally 2 minutes ago) cottage cheese/hummus – so divine. I hate it when I am not hungry…I feel cheated and mad. PB/nuts usually do it for me…but not 7 hours! Sometimes there are just those “full” days. :-)
LMAO- totally picture the “wah wah wah” sound. Would be awesome if Wordpress had a feature like smilies to add sound. Love all the cottage cheese ideas!
1. what foods keep you full for hours on end? Protein! Chicken/tuna/Greek yogurt, but protein powder seems to have some magical staying powder I will never understand.
2. what are your favorite salad bar ingredients? I was SO excited to see a salad bar opening here. I was there on day 1 to check it out- I kid you not, they had: iceberg lettuce, cucumber, tomato, mayo laden pasta salad, mayo laden potato salad and mayo laden coleslaw. I was not happy :'( I love the salad bars that have hot food too- plantains take any salad to a whole new level! Grapes are good too. And if there is hummus or cottage cheese, or something I can use in place of dressing, I love it!
whoa! seriously, i cant think of one food that would keep me that full all day. thanksgiving dinner maybe? ehhhh no not even that because i always do part 2 later at night.
all i want from my salad bar is FRESHNESS! dontcha hate when there are tons of good veggies but they look a wee bit questionable??
LOL! CC DOES kind of look like puke…urgh, thanks for reminding me! Haha!
But really, you HAVE to try my cc concoction…I spread it on whole-grain bread and top it with smoked ham! Yum~
Oh, and answers:
1)That shitty shiratake noodles thingy that pretends to be food but ain’t food. I used to eat it when I was still deep in my ED…and the reason it kept me full was because my body probably didn’t even recognize what the heck it is and is scratching its head going, “What the fuck is this?”
2) CHEESE!!!! Stinkier the better, baby! And poached egg! And candied nuts! And grilled fruits! Bacon!
Cottage cheese with Tabasco rules!
Also, if you were to pour a bit of veggie oil on a paper towel to rub your waffle maker, it won’t stick and it actually makes them a bit crispier! :D
I love it when salad bars have fresh, good salsa since I like using it instead of salad dressing… I also love a large variety of beans (but the toddler usually ends up stealing most of them)…
Your niece is sooooo cute! :)
oh that waffle pic made my heart sink. sad!!!
thanks for letting me know about that blog posting of my film!!! they’ve been doing a ton of local press, it seems….
I have days like that too, when I’m never really hungry. Then again I also have days when I’m ravenous!! lol
Love the puppy pics =)
Foods that keep me full? Burgers and protein shakes.
And at the salad bar? Anything at the Whole Foods one, really!! I love a good bean salad.
xo
K
I love Jason’s Deli, but I’ve never seen hummus on their salad bar. However, I haven’t been in a while. Maybe our local one has it now. Favorite salad bar ingredients? I’m a salad bar snob. Hummus is key but so very rare.
Fiber, I definitely think it’s the fiber. I notice that I feel extra full if I’ve had a lot of fiber, and it sometimes lasts through the next day. I used to eat wheat bran a lot. My breakfast was always 1/2 oat bran 1/2 wheat bran until I started noticing that I was never hungry anymore. Too much fiber, and I went back to nothing but oats, and I won’t even get into the time I ate an entire head of cauliflower. I didn’t think I’d ever want to eat again.
Love Penelope pics. :)
Rice expands to 1000x its size in my stomach -_-… Pure evil! After that I can’t eat anything anymore…
I’m easily satisfied, if it has more than just cucumbers and tomatoes; it’s a salad bar fit for worship (or good salads anyway :P)
xx
hahahhahahhahahahha cotton balls as tp? I love it! You never fail to crack me up.
I love when people post food fails- its SO real! Food doesn’t always come out super tasty and delicious and its a good learning experience when it doesn’t. So you now officially rock in my book ;)
OK- could your niece be any cuter?
Answers to questions:
1. Fiber filled food with nut butter (i.e. apples)
2. chickpeas, broccoli slaw, , good fresh romaine, craisins or raisins, olive oil/vinegar (fresh and quality)
Oh God. That situation in the bathroom has happened to me far too much. It’s awful! But yes, I’ve resorted to just about anything for that!
Gorg-y looking salad. I love salads stuffed with anything and everything. I have no concept of side dishes, I like it all mixed together on top of some greens :)
And i’d definitely say fiber is the culprit. I get used to it and it doesn’t bother me, but sometimes it really fills me up. And when I cook for other people, they can never finish it because it’s so fiber filled!
Aww your poor waffle fail! haha it’s OK, there will be one next week! Holy cow, your niece is the most adorable girl I’ve ever seen. Gah!
Holler for Honeycrisp! I saw they’re your fave too :)
Your niece is so freakin adorable! Weird about being so full..maybe your body adjusting to healthy food?
1. egg whites keep me full for a long time….and really anything super fibrous
2. I love seeing raw mushrooms and garbanzo beans at salad bars!
I bought some sprouts the other day – holla!! Awesome addition to things :)
1. Well.. nothing keeps me full for hours on end : I wish there was something because I feel like I just go through my groceries so quickly. The only thing that I can think of that will keep me full for atleast 2-3 hours is granola with yogurt + nuts or nutbutter and a more dense fruit like banana + dried fruit. I should actually read other people’s comments for this because I have trouble staying full in the morning. I always get hungry an hour after (unless I eat granola).
2. CHICKPEAS, beets, feta, currants, onions, and of course spinach or whatever they’ve got on hand. I also love when they’ve got sesame seed sticks yummm.
p.s. thank you for telling me what you thought about the video :)
http://www.ohonemorething.wordpress.com
p.s. Penelope is too cute for words!!!
p.s.s. lol reading these comments didn’t really help much gaah. OH well, I guess I’ll do what I normally do and just grab something else to munch on.
OH! and one other salad bar must-have item for me are marinated artichokes!
Ooooh poor Neef!! (That is such a cute nickname). I have been in that same toilet paper-catastrophe before…when it’s an emergency like that you have to grab whatever is around. Cotton balls are a good substitute!
I love Penelope…she makes me smile.
I’d have to say that the one thing that keeps me really full is almond or any other kind of nut butter. I guess because it’s chocked full of tons of healthy fats?
I’m SO sorry I’m so behind on your blog posts! Having family here has left me without use of my laptop. It’s like we’re all fighting for it! Pathetic, I know. Thank you, as always, so much for your kind comment on my blog. You always leave me smiling and thinking…
