hummus hump day!

hola blogettes! like the title? yeah me too. find out what it is all about at the end.

loved reading about the grown-up versions of classic meals you guys make! here are a few ideas:

  • a LOT of you make a grown up mac&cheese with added veggies, bread crumbs, meats/faux meats, etc.
  • a LOT of you also do a grown up PB&J with different preserves, real fruit, fun nut butters and fancy breads.
  • a LOT of you also do a grown up grilled cheese with fancy cheeses and added veggies.
  • jessie adds tofu to her pudding.
  • taylor makes brie nachos.
  • tessa eats grown up candy like super dark chocolate.

it was also nice to read all the different opinions on sweeteners, both artificial and natural.  i forgot to answer that and say that i do not use sweeteners ever, i like my coffee black and my oatmeal unsweetened, but i will add some fruit in there from time to time. that is why i am a little nervous about all this nunaturals product on my hands, i need to find some ways to use it!  but i do use sugars in baking so i figure that is the best way.  if anyone has suggestions send them my way.  i know i am going to whip up a recipe from therese and one from annabel here in the near future!

okee dokee, onto today!

meal 1: almond chiaseed protein muffin @ 8:30 AM

9-8-09 037

this is a recycled photo from yesterday, but you can check out the recipe page for these dudes here and the nutrition stats worked out to be (per muffin): 100 calories, 9g protein, 9g carbs, 2g fat! pretty stellar.

work was busy today! what else is new? my boss even had the nerve to tell me i am over-worked. um.. yeah.. thanks boss, well aware.

that one muffin obv did not hold me over long, i was busy all morning and had planned to make waffles but by the time i had a chance to eat, it was lunch!

meal 2: cottage cheese+chicken+ranch seasoning & veggies+hummus & 2 mini pitas @ 11:30 AM

9-9-09 001

so, guess what? i bought the container of sabra chipotle hummus on august 17th (thank you food blog records) and polished it off today. i think that says something about my hummus self control!

9-9-09 004

mushrooms sure are weird looking. but oh so tasty!

so the fact that i did not have a quality breakfast shined through later when i was already hungry again at 2 o’clock.  i held out a bit because i knew i was working until 5 and then eventually celebrated waffle wednesday after all!

meal 3: protein waffles @ 2:30 PM

9-9-09 007

i ate them dry. the recipe can be found here. i could eat these dry all day long they have so much cinnamon flavor!

i went home and changed for the gym and grabbed a little something before heading out the door…

meal 4: chocolate banana protein shake @ 5:45 PM

9-9-09 011

drank it in the car on the way to el gymnasio. i don’t even think that is a word, in any language.

done and done! didn’t wear the HR monitor!

and thennnn i had my first bloggie meetup! ever! i was stoked. the lovely emily aka the experimentarian found herself with a whole lotta delicious dessert hummus quite recently.  well, she lives in the SLC near me and actually works like, a block away from my house! give or take. well she is super sweet and offered to give me a bit of all 6 hummus flavors!

9-9-09 019

look at the cute note :) all packaged up for me ready to devour!

9-9-09 021

the flavors are listed on the inside of the egg carton! so clever. she also got me this ginger preserves stuff from the farmer’s market!

9-9-09 023

i am excited to try all of this stuff on freeee day! i may have to sneak some of the hummus before then though ;)

em was at work so she couldn’t talk long, but we did get to chat for a minute and it was really great to meet her! i am so happy that she lives here and we are going to get together sooooon. thanks SO much emily!! xoxo

9-9-09 012

oh and your head it totally normal sized, what were you talking about?! you are gorgeous :)

i went home to make dinner. went with a little something different.

meals_thumb

have you guys ever had the philly cheesesteak pizza from dominos? well, that is where this dinner stemmed from.

meal 5: philly flat out pizza @ 8:15 PM

9-9-09 033

i took a flat out wrap and slathered a wedge of laughing cow light cheese on it, i had cooked up some turkey burger with some fennel and also sautéed some onions, green bell peppers & mushrooms.. i put the turkey burger and veggies atop the laughing cow layer and baked it for about 6 minutes.

9-9-09 034

it was real good! props to me! recipe page is here with nutritional info. muuuuch better than the dominoes look-alike ;)

well that is about all i have to say tonight! i have a busy day tomorrow..

  • someone is taking my 4runner for a test drive/to the mechanic to get it looked at in the morning, wish me luck that they buy it!
  • work work work work work
  • test-run on 5 smoothies that i will be whipping up for a wedding this saturday.. funnn!
  • new recipe i am going to try out at my mom’s casa
  • HIIT

i hope you all have a lovely thursday!  it is thirsty thursday so DRINK UP! almost the weeeeeekend, yahoooo!

Qs

1. favorite flavor of hummus? i looove me some red pepper hummus with sriracha added to it!

2. have you ever had a blogger meetup? talk about it! i know lots of you have them all the time, but not many of us live in the SLC so i was stoked about today!

WholeBodyLove September 9, 2009 at 10:57 pm

I prefer roasted red pepper hummus. I am almost positive it could go on anything :)

Run Sarah September 9, 2009 at 11:07 pm

Those muffins look awesome, yum!! I love just regular hummus :) No blogger meetup yet, for me.

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) September 9, 2009 at 11:38 pm

I have never had a blogger meetup….I just moved from San Diego to AZ and didn’t know any bloggers anywhere in So Cal and now only know one that lives near me, but she’s really popular and I don’t know if she wanna meet up with lil’ ole me :) But if there are any bloggers in the Phoenix area, holla!

Emily (The Experimentarian) September 10, 2009 at 6:08 am

Averie–Janetha B. is really popular, and she still wanted to meet up with me! I was scared to suggest it, but so glad I did :) You never know til you put yourself out there. xoxo

marisa September 9, 2009 at 11:50 pm

El gimnasio is actually a word in espanol. Leave it to your sister to tell you the truth about things. Ahem. Shout out. Just kidding. Love you!

Lynn (The Actors Diet) September 9, 2009 at 11:51 pm

i’ve yet to have a blogger meetup but i wanna! i just tried edamame hummus. tis good.

insideiamdancing September 10, 2009 at 12:30 am

The dessert hummus sound so cool! Enjoy :D My favourite hummus isn’t a particular flavour, but it’s garlick with huuuuuge chunks of chickpeas in it. Amazing stuff :)

I have had a few blgger meets ups with the only other Edinburgh blogger…but N Y in 25 days (!) so lots happening then :D

Lara (Thinspired) September 10, 2009 at 2:44 am

Youa re so good with the mini-meals. I just can’t graze. I end up eating 5-6 big meals and it never works. Hats off to you for that!

That little hummus gift is so cute! What a cute way of packing it up.

My fav hummus is from Trader Joe’s and it’s their Olive Hummus. If you like olives, it is sooooo good. I dream about it ;)

Erica September 10, 2009 at 4:55 am

hahaha- your boss told you that you were over worked? How sweet :)

That package of hummus in the egg carton is too cute- what a sweet foodie gift!

My favorite hummus is sabra pine nut or Kath’s homemade lemon (YUM!).

I have met up with Kath twice and Tina once :)

balancejoyanddelicias September 10, 2009 at 5:12 am

blogger meetup is soooo fun, I can’t believe when meeting “strangers” could be so cool, because it seems that you know the person but you actually don’t, it’s kind of awkward, but awesome! can’t wait to meet you one day! :)

fav hummus: roasted peppers. but the truth is I love any kind of hummus. :)

good luck with today’s work, hope it goes smooth so you can try your recipes with your mom.

Lauren September 10, 2009 at 5:20 am

What a great meet up! You two are so gorgeous, you could be sisters! :)

I dig the spicy hummus but I’m also quite obsessed with Tj’s White Bean Basil Hummus. Oh my, I just love hummus, I think it could be infused with just about any flavor and I would love it.
I wish I was fortunite enough to have a blogger meet up, but no such luck. I don’t find too many readers that live in or near PA. Bummer! :(

Hope you are having a great week hun!

snackface September 10, 2009 at 6:08 am

Ahh! That hummus egg crate is the cutest thing ever! I’m pumped to see what the flavors are.

Shooo, fave hummus flavas is hard! Garlic, pine nut, spinach and artichoke? I love it all. I don’t think I’ve really not liked any flavor.

My one and only blogger meet-up was with homegirl! And we all saw how that went! (AKA the best summer of my life.)

Hope you’re having a fabulous Thursday! xoxoxo

Emily (The Experimentarian) September 10, 2009 at 6:11 am

Aw! J.B., it was so cool to meet you. I can’t believe you busted through that killa workout and still had time to meet up with lil ole me! I wish we could have chatted for longer–to bad I was still working for “the man.” Can’t wait til you try the hummus and we get to hang out again! xoxo

Haleigh September 10, 2009 at 6:25 am

Flat out pizzas are amazing! Can’t wait to hear about how you like the dessert hummus, I am definitely intrigued by the thought of it but it still sounds a bit weird, lol. ;) Yay for bloggy meetups! I had my first meetup a few days ago too!

julie September 10, 2009 at 6:31 am

oh I am l.o.v.i.n your pizza! papa johns move on over :)

fav hum is definitely roasted red pepper :) I’m totes with you on that one man!

I never had a bloggie meet up :) BUT I would love to have one soon! they’re like internet blind dates haha

Brandi September 10, 2009 at 7:32 am

i’m going to have to get the ingredients and make those muffins! they look so good.

how fun that you got to meet up! and those dessert hummus flavors sound AMAZING!

. favorite flavor of hummus? i love spicy, but sometimes, original just can’t be beat.

2. have you ever had a blogger meetup? Yes, I got to meet Beadie/Christie from I Quit Dieting (used to be What I Ate Yesterday) a few months ago. So much fun, and I hope to have more meetups in the future!

Holly September 10, 2009 at 7:51 am

janetha…gimnasio is a word (gym in spanish girl). give yoself some credit :)

those muffins are dang near the cutest thangs i have ever seen. lovin’ that ‘za too – very creative.

sounds like you have a fabulous couple days ahead – enjoy them and sneak out of work early if you can :)

i love garlicky garlic hummus. call me the anti-vampire – i don’t care.

i wouldn’t love my gal angharad as much as i do if i wasn’t able to have a handful of bloggy meet-ups with that fabulous lady!

cute hummus pack – have a wonderful thursday dear!

amanda @ panda lunch September 10, 2009 at 7:54 am

I have never had dessert hummus, but it sounds awesome! My fave flavor is definitely roasted red pepper followed by cilantro. I love those layered ones from TJ’s!

No meet-ups yet, but I think there’s one in the works for Nashville, so I’m excited!

Andrea@WellnessNotes September 10, 2009 at 8:09 am

I love really spicy hummus. Must add some sriracha next time…

Never had a blogger meet-up but would love to have one…

BodyByPizza September 10, 2009 at 8:18 am

Hey! I am new to your blog and I have to say.. I am LOVING IT. Everything looks so yummy and I love your writing style. I’ve been looking for ways to add more protein into my diet and it looks like your recipe page will do the trick!

Meredith September 10, 2009 at 8:34 am

Hooray for hummus!

Graze With Me September 10, 2009 at 8:38 am

Hey thanks for mentioning the tofu pudding. My mom used to do it when I was little and I still think it’s such a great idea.

I love the stats for those muffins, seeing how I always eat 3 or more at once it’s good that they are low cal.

1) I’m boring, I like plain Tribe hummus the best. I can’t find Sabra around here so I’m not sure what I’m missing out on….

2) I’ve never had a blogger meet up :( Sad. I think you should come out to Colorado though, we have mountains and ass-loads of snow here too! Although I hate winter….heh.

Lainie September 10, 2009 at 8:48 am

HOW FUN! Beautiful girls :) Loving all the hummus, too.

1.) My favorite flavor of hummus is garlic!

2.) Never had a blogger meet-up, but I’d love to!

Mary :: A Merry Life September 10, 2009 at 9:13 am

I LOVE red pepper hummus. Soooo good. It’s probably my favorite but spicy hummus comes in a close second.

That is so fun that you had a blogger meetup! I’ve had a few actually. I met a ton of bloggers at BlogHer in Chicago in July, and then I’ve met a few local ones as well. The BlogHer event was fun because there were sooo many awesome bloggers. I really enjoyed meeting some of the cool food bloggers the most (Kath, Jen, Mara) because they enjoyed the sushi we had and taught me how to enjoy it and try some new things. Very fun. :)

Coco September 10, 2009 at 9:14 am

Chiaseed muffins look awesome and those nutri stats are bomb!!!
Glad to see you got your hump day waffle in. That gingersnap preserve sounds ridiculously good. I wonder how it would be in oats or in a PB sandwich. How are you going to use it?

1. My fav flavor is this homemade roasted almond and red pepper hummus that I make. It blows all store bought ones out of the water!
2. I had this amazing blogger dinner at the beginning of the summer with a bunch of Boston bloggers. It was fun and we all brought a dish. Delish food!!!

Danica September 10, 2009 at 9:23 am

Your workouts ALWAYS amazed me girlie! Fantastic job and I totally need to learn how to workout like you.

LOVE the pizza idea – so easy, delish and FUN!

Good luck with the smoothies and new recipes – sounds like such fun!

Megan September 10, 2009 at 9:49 am

ahhh dessert hummus!! it looks so yummy :)

and i’ve had a mini blogger meet up.. with ashley from daily goods!!

eatolive September 10, 2009 at 9:49 am

mm hummus! i looove garlic hummus! unfortunately, my breath cannot say the same! hahah

everytime i dont feel like working out, i need to think of you & just put on my clothes and go do it! you’re so good at staying on track!! :)

buffmuffy September 10, 2009 at 10:07 am

diznam girl, lucky you! i want to try dessert hummus badly. i have a feeling i’d like it even more than the savory flavours. lol.
haha she does have a normal head. she is gorgeous… a perfect match for the beautiful janetha! but don’t cheat on me, you hear?
1. roasted red pepper. but ive tried only it and a few bites of the kinds my bf tries. he is more adventurous than i!
2. sadly no. but thankfully you are coming to visit me in nebraska sometime soon, to pick me up for the foodbuzz fest. Yep! Thanks !

;)

HealthySDLiving September 10, 2009 at 10:07 am

How fun!! I don’t really think there are many people who read my blog that are actually from San Diego…which is actually very funny! I’d love to have a meetup though, that’d be fun!
Hmm I’d say my favorite flavor hummus would be Garlic–I absolutely LOVE garlic!
One of my weaknesses is Splenda…it’s not that I love it, I’ve just never tried anything else.

lowandbhold September 10, 2009 at 10:08 am

I definitely reached for my water when you said “drink up” haha. I’m such a follower. That pizza idea sounds great! And I’m glad you got your waffles in!!

Definitely roasted red pepper – and thanks for the sriracha idea!

Never had a real bloggy meet up – but I did meet Gina from the Fitnessista last night for like 5 seconds. She was really busy working though. I hope to have lots in the future! I love my bloggy friends :)

Paige @ Running Around Normal September 10, 2009 at 10:27 am

Aww a blog meet up!! How fun! Those little balls o’ hummus are so cute! My favorite flavor is garlic basil.

I’ve never had a blogger meet up. I’m in Illinois, so there aren’t many bloggers here besides in Chicago. Perhaps there will be one up there I can join in on soon :)

Emily September 10, 2009 at 10:34 am

1. when I make my own hummus (which I haven’t done in forever!), I like to add some red curry paste and spicy, curry-type seasoning. so good. I like my hummus to be spicy, or at least just have lots of garlic.

2. never did the meet-up thing. I’m too intimidated!

sounds like you have a big day in store! have a good one!

Michelle September 10, 2009 at 11:36 am

Yummy dessert hummuses (hummi?) haha. That was so sweet of Emily! :)

I had a blogger meetup (my first and only one so far!) in Rhode Island when I was there for a visit, with Kristin from Kristinsnibbles! She’s cute and sweet, just like she seems on her blog! :)

Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) September 10, 2009 at 12:17 pm

Yes, I love the title =)
And yay for hummus!!!
Hummus + nut butters +ice cream are my self-control items… oh man am I bad some times =/
But BFL is great to keep me focused!!

LOVE that choco banana smoothie… it’s my current fave!

Favorite hummus: Tie- roasted red pepper and artichoke kalamata

Yes, I had a blogger meet up with Michelle from Balance My Cake! She was super sweet and we had a nice chat over a delicious lunch at my favorite veggie restaurant =)

But I would LOVE to do more meetups… wish I could come to the SLC but it’s a bit far! If you or anyone else is ever in New England I will happily travel though =)

Shannon, The Healthy Beach Bum September 10, 2009 at 2:01 pm

That hummus carton is TOO cute for words:) Lovely eats girly. If you’re ever in Gainesville, FL lets meet up !!!.. I’ve never had a bloggie meetup =[[

Katey September 10, 2009 at 2:02 pm

I know you’ll probably kill me.. I actually don’t like hummus that much!!!! weird, weird i know! :(

Susan September 10, 2009 at 2:30 pm

Hmm, I may be the last commenter today! Boo. I’m busy at work too. What’s up with doing work at work? I don’t like that… :P

Yay for YTWLs! Skullcrushers get the prize for most badass name though.

1. I’m with you on red pepper hummus! I love the kinds that come with the red pepper on top. Only kind of hummus that I think tastes better on rolls instead of pita bread.

2. No :( New Bruswick doesn’t seem to be a very popular blogging spot. Or a destination spot for that matter! There are a few local readers that I’d love to meet up with though :)

Amy September 10, 2009 at 2:39 pm

I’ll have to comment just to prove Sarah above wrong! :) I just found your blog the other day, and I’ve been loving it! I’m a new blogger(still have to figure out how to use my camera), and I guess I’m a new reader here.

I haven’t tried too many flavors of hummus yet – I’m a scaredy cat – but I love me some roasted garlic hummus.
Blogger meetups – just tapping this side of the blogworld, so I don’t know any bloggers in my area yet – not sure that there are any in DC either – but I did attend the Healthy Living Summit in Boston. It really made me want to start blogging!

Tina September 10, 2009 at 3:24 pm

Hummus + pepper = tha bomb!

I’ve only had 1 blogger meet-up so far, but I’m expectingg you to come visit me some time soon :P

Glad you had a great time, sweetie :)
I’ve been running into a few problems with the sending of the packages, but I’ll mail about that soon…

Tra September 10, 2009 at 3:40 pm

i like eggplant hummus and turkey slices. totally protein esque. HAHHA and garlic breath afterwards. unfortunately i couldn’t make the LA blogger, but hopefully there’ll be another.

adayinthelifeofc September 10, 2009 at 4:00 pm

1. love ANY hummus- but have to say mine is plan old pine nut hummus with lots ‘o hot sauce!!
2. never had a meet up- not many bloggers from socal… plus i don’t really call myself a blogger. i rarely ever blog!

hayleycepeda September 10, 2009 at 4:23 pm

You and Emily (from Tracker) have me jonesing for some flatbread pizza. YUMMO!!! I’d have to say my favorite hummus is plain. I don’t like any fancy shmancy flavors, for some odd reason. I had to buy the pine nuts Sabra from Costco the other day and I ended up scooping out the nuts and tossing them. How dare I?! LOL…

That is so excting that you met up with Em!! I just found her blog through your site and I love it. You’re both beautiful!

I actually met a bunch of blogger people at the Arnold Expo in March. I stayed with my friend Steph (go4steffie on Tracker) and I even got to meet Emily! (Fitnessfan78). I was such a dork ooohing and aaahing over her.. I hope I get to meet more bloggers in the future – including you!

Deb (Smoothie Girl Eats Too) September 10, 2009 at 6:34 pm

I love any and all hummuses (is that a word?) but I think I love red pepper the most. Have you ever made it sweet not savory? Oh, probably not b/c you don’t use sweeteners, never mind.

Never done a meetup. Would love to. All my bloggiefriends all spread all over the place except there’s one reader in the ‘bu (malibu). Otherwise I don’t know any other folks in the LA area.

Kristie September 10, 2009 at 6:48 pm

Mushrooms are fugly little fungi but I just adore em. They are special and I eat em raw pretty much every day. Once upon a time, hardly a year ago even, I HATED mushrooms. WHAT is that about. I was so deprived!

Dessert hummus, seriously? I am so beyond intrigued and am going to check out what that is all about right away.

Qs:
1. favorite flavor of hummus? I love em all but roasted red pepper probably takes first place for me!

2. have you ever had a blogger meetup? Nope! I’m in Canada, there don’t seem to be many of em around here, at least not near me!

Jenny September 10, 2009 at 8:38 pm

congrats on prolonging the lifespan of that hummus for almost a few months! that is one challenge challenge I know I shall never overcome. I love me some extra garlickly garlic hummus.. keeps the vampires away :)

Becky September 10, 2009 at 9:06 pm

the muffins look amazing! nice work on the hummus self-control.
I love sun dried tomato hummus, however I just tried jalapeno hummus for the first time and it was goooood.
No blogger meetup yet!

Michelle September 10, 2009 at 9:31 pm

All your food looks delicious! And cute pic of you 2 beautiful girls! :)

1. I’m probably going to be burned at the stake for saying this, but I’m honestly not a huge hummus fan!
2. I’ve had one blogger meet-up with someone who doesn’t blog anymore, but we ran a race together! It was a ton of fun and made the miles go by super fast.

broccolihut September 10, 2009 at 10:12 pm

I have many favorite flavors of hummus….if I HAD to choose, I might say Peanut Sesame or Pumpkin. Yeah, cuz I’m kinda traditional like that.
I had a blogger meet up in Chicago with EatingBender. It was SO MUCH FUN. If we’re ever in the same city, we should get together;)

mom September 10, 2009 at 10:49 pm

Boo, Marisa beat me to the word challenge, I too was going to tell you it was a word but that you need to pronounce it as “hym-na-sio” – I learned that from my private spanish tutor :)
xoxoxo

jenngirl September 11, 2009 at 6:38 am

What a sweet bloggie gift and meet up!! And I think it’s cool you eat your waffles dry ;)

1. Definitely sabra roasted red pepper…HEAVEN!

2. No blogger meet up for yours truly YET, but I’m hoping for one eventually!
