the two things that are making me functional today~running off 5 hours of sleep is never a good idea. not sure why i do that to myself but it needs to stop. i need to implement a sleep challenge. oh but don’t you guys LOVE pandora? (for those of you who don’t know, it is a website that you can type in a band and it generates a playlist with similar types of music) i find out about so many new bands this way! currently i am listening to matt & kim radio (because k got their song stuck in my head with her SOTD) and a new band (new to me) popped up~the blow. good stuff!
anyway, yesterday was the day that i was the fullest i have ever been in my entire life and this was due to the strength of the nation charity culinary event that i went to. it was so epic that it will have a post of it’s own. this post will just talk about the rest of saturday and sunday and today’s bfast.
so without further delay..
SATURDAY!
included a lot of hanging with the kids. speaking of pooches, please send your love to meghann who recently lost her little girl :’(
saturday night marshall & i tried a new restaurant out, mazza, which is a midle eastern restaurant in the SLC
we had nice patio seating but it also made for crappy lighting so bear with me :)
cute table decor
great little bit about them on the menu~i was impressed.
hummus.
i am a hummus connoisseur. this one had a couple armenian pickles atop the hummus~
the creamy factor was there but the flavor was a little too lemony for my palette. it was good, but we didn’t lick the bowl clean like we do when we go to aristo’s, which still currently holds the title for best hummus in the SLC.
the pita bread was top quality though, still really warm and fresh. i could eat my weight in pita bread.. for real.
onto the main course! i got the med steak & cheese sandwich
horrible lighting, i know, i will have to go back during the day! but as far as the taste goes~the bread was super soft inside and crisp on the outside. very fresh. the meat was tender and marinated in delicious mediterranean spices. the cheese was a little bland but the texture of it paired well with the steak. while i couldn’t come close to finishing this, i did enjoy eating it!
marshall got the beef kebab sandwich
yeah another crap photo. sorry. marshall’s sandwich was MESSY! he ended up dumping it out and eating it with a fork. i had a taste and while i enjoyed it~i liked mine better. he chose the yogurt sauce which i believe was the way to go. it was delicious!
all in all mazza was a good pick, fair price and nice atmosphere. i am sure we will be back sometime!
after dinner we caught a late showing of 500 days of summer~go see it, it is as good as you have heard!
and after the flick we had some fro yo from spoon me~
strawberries, peaches & blackberries.. mmmm.
eaten outside with cars whizzing by~i love summer nights.
that was the perfect end to a fun date with the boyf. thanks babe! (he reads the blog :P)
SUNDAY!
i popped out of bed at 9:30 even though i went to bed around 2 AM. and yes, waking up at 9:30 on a sunday is considered early for me. dead serious. i went to make coffee and we were out.. so i decided to get right to the exercising since i had to be dolled up and at solitude in a mere 2 1/2 hours..
i went for something new yesterday! it was cardio day~i usually do HIIT but i was sick of the treadmill and it was overcast out, not too hot yet, so i decided to do my workout outside.
this is how it went down:
- ran about a mile to the local high school
- ran up and down the bleachers~6 staircases (3 up, 3 down) 6 times for a total of 36 floors..30 steps each so that is a total of 1080 steps. yes i am a number freak. and my shuffle was dead so all i could do was count my steps. yes, i do that a lot.
- ran around the track once for my “high point” of the HIIT. i think a high school track is 1/4 mile? am i right? i ran it in 2 minutes 4 seconds.
- ran/walked home from the high school
stats:
duration:37 mion 35 seconds
Ave HR: 150
Max HR: 181
Cal: 287
oh and my HR monitor decided to work. glad that worked out, but i still think i am going to run it through the washing machine like anne suggested just so i dont run into any more problems.
well i will skip over the eats from sunday because it is going to be a humungo post of deliciousness and i need to put some thought into it since i will be posting it for foodbuzz~ more on that later!
but after the event i did go to my parents casa~oh yeah, for those who wondered, that gym is in her house, sigh..i would go there all the time but she lives about 25 miles from me~we celebrated my dad’s 58th bday! which is TODAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!! XOXO
my mom always makes him a red velvet cake for his birthday~it is tradition! and it. is. delicous. yes, i made room for a (tiny) slice!!
i was already SO full from the event.. but there is always room for birthday cake, right?! haha.
then we went and saw funny people~ it was good but WAY too long, 2 and a half hours! too long for a comedy in my opinion.
MONDAY!
well all that has gone down the hatch today was the usual sales meeting breakfast at the original pancake house, for those new readers out there i have to eat at the original pancake house every monday morning. it gets old.
today i got egg beaters+tomato+mushrooms+onion+avocado (all sauced up with cholula) & dry wheat toast (& coffee)
that is it! today i have my upper body workout and i am going to work on some projects i have hanging out there.
i am really stoked to report that i drank a gallon of water every day except saturday and sunday last week.. 5 out of 7 is pretty stellar! AND i did not miss one workout which is really great~6 days of workouts and 1 rest day. i am happy about that.
i am determined to make this week even better than last!
let me inform you of some important national food holidays going down!
- august is national peach month!

xo. janetha b.

OMG… okay first off the sandwich looks really good and i also love pita bread…
but the froyo? my goodness girl i am sitting here jealous. the closest thing we have of a froyo shop that ive seen here in omaha is TCBY .. eh. they do have blackberries though, so maybe i can go in a second time some day LOL. i just discovered that they were froyoish about a month ago.
Red velvet cake is one of my faves. YUM.
catfish is good you should def try it!
Questions
1. I’m going to eat better this week! Last week i was on my tom. LOL. just ate too much.
2. my bday cake of choice is definitely either a red velvet with cream cheese frosting or a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. I love frosting, and cream cheese is pretty much my fave flavor.
-muffy
My birthday cake of choice used to be DQ ice cream cake- but I can’t eat ice cream anymore. THis year I made angel food cupcakes filled w/ whipped cream & topped with strawberries!
I’m running on 5 hours of sleep today as well. Blah.
I’m so jealous you saw 500 days of summer, I can’t wait for it to come out here!!
All of the food holiday info this month makes me happy…I’m dead on with the peaches ;)
1. I’m going to RELAX more, and enjoy each moment!
2. definitely either chocolate with white icing, or RED VELVET!!
Love that it’s national peach month! I can’t get enough summer produce. Haha uh love that I have an excuse to eat a brownie after Sunday brunch. I don’t really care what flavor birthday cake it is as long as it’s really moist. Of course chocolate is always good idea!
Hey the sandwich looks great, we’ll have to go there! You find such good things to eat, can’t wait for your monster post – this next week i hope i can exercise more regularly (off to a bad start already today, haha!) and drink more water every day! The cake would be a toss up, chocolate mayo or red velvet, yummmm to both! xoxo
damn stan your eats have been bang-a-langin!
congrats on killin’ the water challene, love! though i’m sure you had to frequent the lou several times ;)
i <3 august — what's better than a month that celebrates watermelon and waffles!
Eee! I totally perked up when I saw Wednesday was waffle day!! I love waffles!! :P
You are indeed a hummus connoisseur. I’m with you, I don’t care for lemon-y hummus. I much prefer it on the garlick-y side.
1. This week I’m going to be more social at work. I’m actually going to be working at the office. It’s full of coworkers I barely get the chance to see and hardly know!
2. Usually I choose cheesecake. But this year I made carrot cake with my mom (no surprise there). Maybe next year will be carrot cheese cake?
OHHH carrot cheesecake would be so good! i haev got to make that…
This week I am going to find at least a little time every night to relax. Work is going to be super hectic for the next few weeks so I need that time at night to de-stress.
I love carrot cake. Followed closely by chocolate.
Question: You are going to run your heartrate monitor through the washer??? The strap or the watch? Mine has been acting up lately (Polar F6) too…it will read my heartrate for like the first 10 minutes of my workout then just stop. Do you think it would help to run it through the wash?
Maybe you were being sarcastic but I am just dying for my stupid HRM to work again lol!
yeah just the strap part! the directions did say to run it through the wash every month~the sensors can get gummed up i guess. maybe give it a try!
my heart is breaking for her – i feel so bad – i got home sunday and hugged and kissed lando extra hard. i love your sweet pups – they always make me smile!
mmmm – froyo! :)
woah baby that sandwich is HUGE, but sounds great!!
love me some red velvet cake.
I will be sure to enjoy peach month!
yum yum and yum! happy bday to daddy!
I thought Marshall was vegan??? Maybe I got the wrong impression on that one. Can’t wait for the next post!!
#1) This week I am going to cut refined white sugar out of my diet! I’ll be much happier!
#2) Love homemade carrot cake!! Or my mom’s chocolate zucchini cake….it’s a toss-up.
Oh no, Marsh is as carnivorous as they come! He did used to be vegan, he IS straightedge and veganism often goes hand in hand with that lifestyle. He up and decided not to be one day. But he still is very strict about being straightedge. Maybe I will get him to be a boozer some day…but I doubt it :) LOTS of his friends are vegan, when I refer to “the vegans” I am talking about his 3 roomies and other buddies who are vegan. I bake for them all the time! Great goal of no refined sugar. Good luck to you!!
I just realized I went on about no sugar then started dreaming of cake….damn.
hummus lovahhhhhhhhh!! mmmm i knew i liked you :)
fun date night!
how effing amazing does that cake look! dayam. happy bday to your pops. whos that cutie pie in the background??
birthday cake of choice is a lotta chocolate. and vegan of course.
this week? no idea…i shall ponder
YUM to the Greek! Sorry it wasn’t the greatest but when it comes to Greek food, I’ll take anything.
I want to see 500 Days – I loveeee Joseph Gordon Levitt :D
Happy Birthday to your Dad!! Your mom sounds like quite the baker!
oohhh can’t wait for Wednesday- Waffle DAY :)
Happy Birthday to your dad, and your meals are looking so GOOD!!
I’ve had HRM probs too in the past. I think it works best if you wash it with soap and water and let it hang dry after each use.
mmm birthday cake? I’m actually not a cake fan! But I LOVE pie :) pumpkin pie, apple pie, blueberry pie, you get the point :)
this week will be better becauseeee….uhhh I’m going ot make more time for my friends!
Hooray for Dad’s Bdays!! hee hee
I’m going on vacation to make this week better and my cake of choice is ice cream cake from DQ!

Pandora rocks!! I declare every Friday (when my boss is outta the office) at work Pandora Friday! I jam to my stations and sometimes dance a little when nobody’s looking ;)
1. This week will be better than last week because I have reenergized my dedication for the gym! AND I’m having my first Trader Joes visit this weekend and I’m stoked!!
2. My birthday cake of choice is nearly always an ice cream cake…Carvel style all the way with the chewy crunchies in the center!! :-D
Ohh I remember pandora! I used to go on there, but I haven’t recently. I’m gonna check it out again!
That froyo looks soooo yummy! I love the abundance of fruity toppings.
Great workout, and make sure you take off the transmitter part–the hard bit (TWSS) and just wash the soft strap part.
Def. always room for birthday cake, especially ones as yummy as that red velvet one! Mmm!
1) Good q! I’m gonna keep gettin back into my training/workout groove, and have fun playing intense hardcore badminton with my dad and sis! Also, enjoy the weather before I have to go back to freakin’ oven Arizona.
2) CHEESECAKE!! haha does that count? If not, pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting :D And I’ve totally had a cheesecake for my b-day before ;)
I am LOVING the looks of your steak and cheese sammie! I probably would have gotten that, too!
1) I’ll be more patient
2) No cake for me! Just gimme lotsa cheese!
woo for us getting back on track! what a killer track workout you had!!!
yay for cake – i’m not a fan of redvelvet…not sure what my choice bday cake is….its varied over the years, I really like ice cream cake but obvi since i’m vegan now…hmmmmm this year mom made me a killer raspberry choc cake which was vegan – delish! next year I might go for a homemade carrot cake if she is up for the challenge :) hehehe or cupcakes maybe – hmmmm! vegan cupcakes take over the world has a fab recipe for gingercbread cupcake w/ lemony frosting – i think that wuld be a fab cake!!! or a smores cake. hmm! the options are limitless – obvi I can’t decide. and before I went vegan, hubbys mom always always made me chocolate cheesecake. but it always always made my tummy hurt. :(
I want my cake chocolate please! Or carrot cake!
Um, Holly and I talked about how we thought you and she and I would get on spankingly well and that we wished we all lived close together! Not kidding!
Rock on for working out six/seven days, that is awesome. You’ve actually just inspired me to get off my butt and do something right now as I missed my run tonight AND will be missing all workouts this weekend since I’m going outta town….but that’s also why this week will kick last week’s ass!
Can’t wait for foodbuzz post!
bday cake you ask? baskin and robbin’s ice cream cookie dough cake… SO GOOD! but that red velvet cake is looking mighty tasty too woman.
AND gahh that fro you, simply amazing.
hope you have a good week, and get some shut eye!
Thanks for the waffle tip! I’ve been on such a waffle kick lately, but I’ll have to make sure to leave room on Wednesday for them :-)
1. Umm..this week is my no sweets week so I’m trying to get BOT after multiple weekends on vacation!
2. Definitely ice cream cake :-) Preferably Baskin & Robbins.
We saw Funny People on Saturday night and we also thought it was a lil long. We enjoyed it though.
Brooke and Jess here, blogging from bed and loving your life.
RED VELVET! We were just talking about its “orgasmicness”, says Jess. “I couldn’t agree more”, stated Brooke.
We love how your boyf reads da blog. We know he pays for your meals, but does he pay for your moves? (WE KID WE KID and WE CREEPY WE CREEPY) We just really loved the hummus.
Question time..
1. how are you going to make this week better than last?
B+J=BJ: More Pinkberry, more hummus.
2. what is your birthday cake of choice?
B: I LOVE CAKE. Carrot or just that cheap ass shit from Costco with white cake, vanilla frosting, and bitchton of sprinkles
J: Vegan carrot cake.
B: Fuck you.
Just to clarify things…the “fuck you” was to Jess for being a healthy beezy that I love.
Oh my goodness…Happy Birthday to your dad! Red velvet is my favorite cake IN LIFE!
red velvet is always teh best! i always ask my bf’s mom to make that for me, its amazing! happy birthday to your dadddd! thank you so much for the comment yesterday on my post. you are so wonderful and are such a great support system! love ya!
Lovin the pooch pics!
I’d like to consider myself a hummus connoissieur, given that I’ve ordered it about 9872534 times at every restaurant I go to. I don’t like it too runny, which is a problem at many places. My favorite? From a DINER near campus in Durham, called Elmo’s.
Red velvet cake! It always makes me think of my sister’s wedding–she had a red velvet wedding cake with heavenly cream cheese frosting.
Can you believe I’ve never been to a restaurant that has hummus?? Crazy I know!
My birthday cake of choice is chocolate peanut butter of course!
Ohhh, catfish (especially blackened) is really good!
I am so in love with your doggies. I want them to meet Hillary!
My bday cake is carrot cake, all the way. Bring it on!
mmm! that red velvet cake looks delicious! my favorite bday cake is ice cream. always ice cream cake!!!! even when i was studying abroad in france, my friend becca managed to track down an ice cream cake “log” at some obscure parisian store because nothing else will do!
I am simply going to eat more raw veggies and lots of fruit this week..that will make it better ;) and also try for yoga each day. My favorite birthday cake would have to be an icecream cake…so bad yet so good! Or cheesecake (raw preferably) That red velvet cake looks divine! Yum yum.
