words of wisdom wednesday.

this is one of my favorite quotes EVER. i read it whenever i feel discouraged or frustrated with myself. i hope you all can pull the same inspiration from it that i do!

****************************************************

“Do something about it. When something is troubling you, make the commitment to change it. Then begin to act on that decision right away. Some of the influences in your life are under your control, and many of those influences are outside your control. Yet you can always decide upon and put into action a positive response to anything.

Don’t sit around being amazed at how miserable you are and at how unfairly life is treating you. Instead, be amazed at how quickly and effectively you can do something about it.

Don’t complain to others about how tough it is for you. Instead, inspire them with your positive and enthusiastic attitude and actions.

When the world feels all wrong, that’s a valuable signal. It’s your way of telling yourself to get going and make a difference.

You have plenty of good options if you’ll simply make the effort to find them. Pick the best one, get busy putting it into action, and take positive control of your world.”

-Ralph Marston

“there’s nowhere you can be, that isn’t where you’re meant to be” – the beatles

“With travel, our minds become more curious, our hearts more powerful, and our spirits more joyous. And once the mind is stretched like that, it can never return to its orginal state…”

have fun on your trip! :)

Kate @ Naturastride July 13, 2011 at 6:14 pm

Love it. My husband once said to me, “You can have the life you want.” That’s definitely my favorite quote – and on the same wavelength as yours! I continue to say it to myself everyday.

The Healthy Hipster July 13, 2011 at 6:46 pm

What a lovely message. Thanks for that daily dose of inspiration, lady. Enjoy your trip!

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga July 13, 2011 at 6:48 pm

awesome quote.

mine is not a quote per se but what i mentioned to you recently..don’t sweat the small stuff and if there is any tension/arguments/problems/stresses with others…try to remember that will this matter in a week or a month? will i even remember this? Chances are….no. So in the moment, don’t sweat things and try not to stress over arguments b/c in the future, they truly will be…meaningless and forgotten.

HAVE FUN!!!

Holly @ The Runny Egg July 13, 2011 at 6:50 pm

I loved this part of the quote:

‘When the world feels all wrong, that’s a valuable signal. It’s your way of telling yourself to get going and make a difference.’

Thanks for posting that!

Oooo, I like that one. I’m a real quote collector.

My favourite:

“There is no use trying; one can’t believe impossible things.” -Alice
“I dare say you haven’t had much practice. When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” -Queen

The ADA daily newsletter sent me a good quote today:
“It is difficult to steer a parked car, so get moving.”
–Henrietta Mears

Annette@EnjoyYourHealthyLife July 13, 2011 at 8:33 pm

“Become what you want to be, by being what you want to become.” -Richard Scott

happy travels, j!
i love quotes. and the one you posted came at just the perfect time – many thanks for the a-ha.
i like: “when one door closes, another one opens” – simple, short, but so true.

Yolie @ Practising Wellness July 14, 2011 at 4:03 am

That is such a beautiful quote – thank you so much for sharing the wise words and inspiration <3 xyx

Eates-A-Lot July 14, 2011 at 5:35 am

Words are kinda my thing… to say a favorite would be impossible.. I really liked yours! here are the top two for the moment:

Who am I around?
What are they doing to me?
What have they got me reading?
What have they got me saying?
Where do they have me going?
What do they have me thinking?
And most important, what do they have me becoming?
Then ask yourself the big question: Is that okay?”- Jim Rohn

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” -Dumbledore (Don’t judge because it’s from Harry Potter!)

Bonnie July 14, 2011 at 6:35 am

Great quote! My mom always told me “The squeaky wheel gets the grease”. Oh so true in life, sometimes we really need to speak up and speak out and then you will be heard and see results. I have learned it comes with age. We get a little bolder as we get a little older! Thanks

Tiffany @ Simply Shaka July 14, 2011 at 6:51 am

Love that quote, I am stealing it. My two faves are

“Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows” and “The definition of crazy is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”

have a fun trip!!

Carissa @CarissaAnneB July 14, 2011 at 7:54 am

I love this! Thanks for the positive vibes! I think we can always use a reminder to see the “big picture” when the everyday life puts us in a vice.

Cassy July 14, 2011 at 9:09 am

i totally dig that quote!

have a great trip!

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine July 14, 2011 at 9:50 am

“Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity.” Horace Mann

I love that one because it reminds me that everyone can make a lasting difference in the world. It may not be huge, but we underestimate our ability to make an impact on others’ lives.

Heather July 14, 2011 at 10:26 am

I needed that! I have been tempted to complain lately and your post was a pleasant reminder to keep my chin up!

Have a great roadtrip!

caitlin July 14, 2011 at 10:31 am

Just printed this off!
My favorite quotes: http://scatterbrainjane.com/quotes/
“ Life, I really believe, is about falling in love. With ideas, with stories, with experiences, mistakes, adventures, poetry, imaginations, old books, new books, movies, music, and, of course, people. Everything that is worthwhile in this world is worth falling in love with, and I can’t imagine a better way to live one’s life than to be always head over heels.” — Anonymous

I have this one in the wall of my studio:

The happiest people don’t have the best of everything, they make the best of everything they have.

sarah July 14, 2011 at 1:04 pm

printing this as we speak :)

i posted about your taco soup today! it was a hit with the fam, thanks again!

Susan July 14, 2011 at 4:24 pm

That quote pretty much sums up how I tackle life. When i was a “depressed teenager” I had a psychologist look at me, exasperated, and say “Only YOU can make yourself feel better.” For some reason, that statement in that moment clicked with me, and it’s something I say to myself every day. Yup, even when I’m laying in a hospital bed with a disease that wants to kill me. I’ll laugh that sucker out if I have to.

Or maybe I just have a dark sense of humour ;)

Pure2raw twins July 14, 2011 at 7:34 pm

what a quote! words to life by for sure…attitude is everything. Thanks for the reminder that anything bad can be good.

melissa July 14, 2011 at 8:44 pm

“Make your ego porous. Will is of little importance, complaining is nothing, fame is nothing. Openness, patience, receptivity, solitude is everything.” -Rainer Maria Rilke

“One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating. ”
-Luciano Pavarotti and William Wright

Stefanie @TheNewHealthy July 15, 2011 at 11:39 am
