this is my life.

there is going to be a whole lot of lifecasting this weekend here on the blog. hope you guys don’t mind— i am sure i will blog about something useful again sometime soon.

today was a busy saturday! i am just now opening my laptop for the first time all day and it is almost 10 PM. i like that. i think the laptop should be put away more often. too many hours are spent online in this house and i am making a conscious effort to minimize that business.

i woke up and DIDN’T do insanity! it was our day off. hooray for making it one full week!

i  started my day with a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel thin + PB&Co cinnamon raisin swirl peanut butter. i won katie’s PB&Co giveaway awhile back and am fully stocked with SIX jars of PB&Co peanut butter.

marshall cracked open this gem the other day and i think mighty maple has some competition.

it is amazing. side note: remember when i hated raisins for the first 27 years of my life? glad that’s over with.

i kept breakfast light because i went to bikram yoga with a V.I.P.—momma b! it was her first time doing bikram (or doing any yoga at a studio for that matter) and guess what? she LOVED it! i am so glad. i knew she would!!

it was a great class and we spent the drive home talking about all the positive energy that was in the room and how yoga really does have healing powers. do i sound like a crazy, spiritual person yet? i am sure it will get worse.. i am loving bikram more and more each time i go.

if you want to see a horrible photo of me post-bikram, click on over to momma b’s photo-of-the-day blog.

i got home and was hungry, but nothing sounded good. i kind of feel like that after sweating profusely for 90 minutes. hungry.. but not in the mood to eat. it’s a weird sensation. i decided to blend up a protein smoothie.

did i mention it was a blizzard today? yes. a blizzard on april 9th. the perfect time for an ice cold smoothie.

in the mix:

  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • splash of POM wonderful pomegranate juice
  • 1 serving tera’s whey cranberry pomegranate protein powder
  • 3 frozen strawberries
  • half of a banana
  • ice
  • sprinkle of both xanthan gum & guar gum

i made a last minute decision to sprinkle on some love crunch granola because granola makes everything better. i am sure you could sprinkle this stuff on a shoe and it would taste great.

hot cocoa it was not. but i do love this long spoon!

from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM i cleaned. my. heart. out. scrubbed the cupboards, organized the pantry, mopped the floors, dusted the furniture, cleaned the range.. you get the point. four and a half hours later and i hadn’t even started on the bedrooms or bathrooms. eesh. but i LOVE a clean kitchen and an organized pantry.IMG_0932IMG_0924

lovely. for now, at least.

while i was mopping my floors i thought about celebrities and wondered which ones clean their houses and which ones have someone hired to do it for them. and then i wondered when the last time the celebrities who DON’T clean their houses actually did any type of house cleaning. i also wondered if, during the last time they cleaned their house on their own, they knew it would be the last time they did any floor mopping or furniture dusting.  and then i wondered if they would ever clean their house again.  this is what goes through my mind, people. i am a total nut job. i don’t care about the latest sex scandal or who got busted with cocaine. i care about who cleans their own toilets.

okay, moving on, sorry about that.

i had to stop cleaning because i was heading down south to american fork to meet some very special people for dinner!

the bills!!  oh, by the way, that is my sister. her last name is bills. make sense? and that is her husband, eric, and my three nieces: kaylee, lucy and sofi.  i really like how they all have an “eee” sound at the end of their names but each name achieves that sound with a different spelling. again—these are the things i think about. again–   i am a total nut job.

the bills are in town from california because eric’s grandma died. it’s a sad story. but it is also a reason for them to suddenly drive to utah which makes me happy because i never see them!

we ate at paradise bakery.

i got a greek salad and a half of a chicken artichoke panini on wheat.

it was good, but not great. i don’t love paradise bakery, but i don’t hate it. ya know? their coffee is good. i snagged one after eating so i could warm up!

family photo ops!

momma b~

max, lucy + luke~

P.S. marshall is missing because he worked 8 hours in the blizzard today and was sleeping on the couch instead of eating dinner with us. but my nieces called him and took turns talking to him about very serious stuff, i am sure.

(most of) my nieces and nephews.. izzy, greyson and jake are the only ones missing!

i love these little ladies!

they are growing up soo fast. kaylee is ten, lucy is 7 and a half and sofi will be 5 this month. IMG_0921

it was great to see them, if only briefly.

well, i have some black bananas to deal with. hopefully some protein banana muffins will be on the blog in the very near future.

enjoy your sunday!

1. do you have any siblings? how about nephews or nieces? how many? i have three siblings: two sisters and a brother. they are all older. marisa is the oldest and has her 3 girls. suni comes next and has 4 boys. my brother, doug, has one of each: izzy and greyson. me and marshall have two furry kids: penny and randy. that’s all we will have for awhile!

2. if there is one chore you could have done for you for the rest of your life, what would it be? me=FOLDING LAUNDRY. i hate it! there is currently a whole room full of clean clothes just waiting for someone to fold them.. i nominate marshall.

What a day! Just perfect :) Glad your Momma loved the yoga. The smoothie looks delicious- I kind of want one for breakfast tomorrow morning now…And cleaning feels SO good. I don’t mind most chores- I kind of hate dusting though. If someone else wants to dust for me every week- they’re MORE than welcome ;). I love how all of the women if your family have a certain “look”- I feel like all the ladies in my family have a certain something that makes us all look alike too!

Meg April 9, 2011 at 9:58 pm

I’m so impressed with your house cleaning! Come do mine? I wish I could have someone make my bed every day. I hate it! Putting away laundry is a close second… I too have a pile of clean laundry that has been hanging out for a while…

I have one brother who is two years younger than me. We’re complete opposites! All my nieces/nephews are on my husband’s side (he has 8 siblings!): 7 nieces and 3 nephews.

Annette @EnjoyYourHealthyLife April 9, 2011 at 10:12 pm

Love family posts :) I have NINE siblings and I adore ’em all. I also have 8 nieces & nephews on my side, and 7 on my husband’s side!!

I HATE putting away dishes or laundry. Hate it. My husband has to do it, b/c i hate it so much. haha. And I kinda like Paradise bakery….maybe it is just their cookies?? :)

J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) April 9, 2011 at 10:27 pm

Love your peanut butter & co. Collection! They’re all soooooo yummy.

You have a really cute family!

If I could delegate dusting I would be happy to do everything else, even dishes. I agree with you, a tidy kitchen is fantastic. It’s always my number one priority. :)

KaraHadley April 9, 2011 at 10:51 pm

I used to never feel hungry after Bikram, but then when I started cleaning the studio after class for a work-study job, I found that by the time I was done I was more than ready to eat. I think the constant movement helped my body cool down more evenly.
Also, I’ve always wondered this, but do you guys “send out energy”? I want to say it’s lotus pose (the one before boat, where you “lift up like a 7-47”), but at my studio we all pat on the floor to send out energy. I’ve never been to another studio, but I hear it’s just a weird thing we do, so I’m curious.
But I’m so so so glad you and Momma B are getting into Bikram. I firmly believe in all the healing powers of the series (do I sound new age-y and spiritual now? haha) so hopefully it will help Momma B get completely past her health scare. I haven’t heard you mention anything new, so I assume she’s recovering well.

edenseats April 9, 2011 at 11:43 pm

I need to give you and momma b a private yoga lesson.
And sounds like paradise bakery was kind of, “meh”. I feel that way towards lots of places oddly enough. I dont hate them, but I dont love them. So i totally get it.

I have a half sister 15 years older than me. But since momma b adopted me, I have like lots more siblings now, right? I HATE cleaning the sink and toilet! I’ll pay big bucks for someone to do that.

elise April 10, 2011 at 12:10 am

oh my gosh they are the cutest!! i looove names that end in “eee” and before i started dating kyle, i wanted to name my daughter kylie. now that would be weird. naturally i love the name kaylee too. i dont mind folding laundry, i HATE doing it though. this may be not as loathsome a task once i move to a place that has its own washer and dryer (as in a house). then ill be a real grown up!!

marissa April 10, 2011 at 1:05 am

I received my meals & moves bumper sticker today! There were also some extra treats, which was super awesome!! I will send you a pic it on my car.

siblings: sister (4 years older), brother (15 years younger!)

chore: everything having to do with laundry!

alisueonthemove April 10, 2011 at 1:07 am

First off you kitchen is amazing! It is just like the dream kitchen I have pictured in my head, crazy! I just tried Bikram yoga yesterday and for completing the class I got an I survived button. I loved it, you are 100% right about the positive energy from everyone in the room. My one chore would be dusting, everything else I can handle.

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) April 10, 2011 at 2:45 am

I would say unloading the dishwasher. Not that it’s awful, but it’s just a chore I dont need in my life :)

your extended family is looking as beautiful as ever!

and Momma B and yoga and you…NICE! the pic of you two is cute!

VeggieGirl April 10, 2011 at 2:46 am

1.) I have 2 older brothers, 2 sisters-in-law, 2 nieces, and 3 nephews.

Cathy K April 10, 2011 at 2:56 am

thanks for sharing your day, j! i feel like we just had a face-to-face visit! :)
NICE WORK on the cleaning – don’t you just find you get started, get sidetracked into cleaning something else, then another thing….there go the hours! great results at the end, though!
i dislike dusting immensely. i’d fold laundry ANY day over dusting.
LOVE that you got family time in – so centring, isn’t it! i have one bro, 3 years younger; SIL and two nieces – 4.5 years old and 20 months. they are the apples of my eye!
enjoy your sunday!!
a snowstorm on april 9th is just not cool!!

Kristen April 10, 2011 at 3:59 am

I have two brothers, which puts my right in the middle. (yep only girl and middle child- I SWEAR its my younger brother thats the spoiled one haha)
I would give up doing the dishes. (not the dishwasher) but actually sticking your hand repeatedly in gross water haha

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine April 10, 2011 at 4:28 am

You look SO MUCH like your nieces. Seriously, they could be yours!! I have one older brother who just got married. Definitely no kids yet!

meagan April 10, 2011 at 4:29 am

1. I *hate* folding and putting away laundry! I just put on a TV show on Netflix and try to get it done…but it never makes it from basket to drawer. Sigh.

2. No nieces, nephews, etc. My husband and I are the first married on both sides of the family and have the first grandchild/niece. And unfortunately for both sets of grandparents, the only grandbaby that looks to be coming for a long while (let’s hope–for us, anyway! ;))

cleaneatingchelsey April 10, 2011 at 5:09 am

Your nieces and nephews are too cute! I have two siblings – an older sister (25) and a younger borhter (20). My sister has two stepchildren who live with them full time, so they are my niece and nephew! She is also pregnant with a baby girl and is due in September.

Lauren April 10, 2011 at 5:12 am

Awww, what a great day with your family!!!

I cleaned the house like crazy yesterday too!! And painted the basement. Ugh, but the results are so worth it. :)

Happy Sunday darling!

scatterbrainjane April 10, 2011 at 5:32 am

You guys all look so much alike! I love family outings:)

I have 1 older sister and 1 younger brother. Since we have all gotten older we have become very close. I consider them both two of my best friends. I love it.

And the choir I hate doing is unloading the dishwasher! I will avoid it at all costs. Yuck!

Christin@purplebirdblog April 10, 2011 at 5:51 am

I personally think the sweaty-ass photo of you and Momma B rules! I’ve been contemplating trying out Bikram but haven’t made the leap yet! Glad you got to hang out with your family… happy weekend! xoxo

Lindsey@ Textbooks and Cookbooks April 10, 2011 at 6:20 am

1. I have one younger brother (21) and three step-siblings (2 boys + 1 girl) ages 19, 22, and 25. My Mom got married when I was a senior in high school, so I technically just count my bro as my only sibling.

2. Cleaning the shower! A close second would be taking my clothes to my room and putting them away. Somehow that easy task is so annoying to me! I’ve been known to leave my folded clothes on top of the dryer for weeks…haha.

Pure2raw twins April 10, 2011 at 6:26 am

Great family photos! Wish we could get our mom to bikram yoga! Maybe one day :)
We have two older sisters and they are both married and the oldest one now has her first child. So we have our first niece!! It has been great though they are done in south Florida so we don’t get to see them that much :( miss them.

Jenny April 10, 2011 at 6:28 am

your weekend put mine to shame! friends and family, yoga, six jars of peanut butter — every bloggies dream, no?

p.s. your pantry is epic! I’m secluded to a 2×2 foot cabinet in my apartment. I have to store my nut butter in my room.

Sarah April 10, 2011 at 7:07 am

first, your clean and stocked pantry makes me happy.

second, your nieces and nephew are too cute! my stepbrother and stepsister each have a kid, so i kind of have a niece and a nephew – i’m much closer to my stepbrother’s son though, just because they are always at my mom’s house! :)

third, i also loathe folding laundry. i usually end up leaving it in the baskets so long that it gets completely wrinkled and needs to be ironed – which i never do – so i just wear wrinkly clothes.

Lee April 10, 2011 at 7:08 am

Such a fun, family day. My family doesn’t live near me and I miss them. I have a half-brother and a half-sister but I just think of them as my brother and sister. They are 23 and 20.

I hate putting away laundry too. Hate it!

Ashley @ 365 things April 10, 2011 at 7:28 am

I’m not a raisin fan either, but I like the ones in that jar of peanut butter. I LOVE the crystalized sugar or whatever it is in there too. It’s so dang addictive! Never tried the ‘heat’ one although I’d love to eventually!

Mimi April 10, 2011 at 7:30 am

I love hanging out with the fam!

And I love that brand of peanut butter. UK PB <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< American PB. Not that I'm a racist or anything. They have way better Indian food.

thedelicateplace April 10, 2011 at 7:32 am

i have 1 sib a brother! one chore omg. the bathrooms i hate it!

actorsdiet April 10, 2011 at 7:37 am

what a beautiful beautiful family! i have one brother. he has 4 kids!!!

i think i hung out in the paradise cafe while shooting White on Rice!

Carbzilla April 10, 2011 at 7:50 am

I have one younger brother, and one 11 year-old nephew.

PS. If you walk into your kitchen one day and your counters are missing it’s because we’ve run off to a tropical island together. I LOVE them soooo much!

Stephanie@MyThornsHaveRoses April 10, 2011 at 7:53 am

I’m not sure where I’d possibly know her from…but your sister looks crazy familiar to me.

I have three sisters. One niece. :)

Heather April 10, 2011 at 7:57 am

I would love to never have to take out the recycling again, it is a chore that plagues me from childhood!

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) April 10, 2011 at 8:04 am

WHat a lovely gaggle of people. LOVE seeing Mama B out there looking fab & healthy.

I don’t love folding & putting away laundry.

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) April 10, 2011 at 8:05 am

PS I have one wonderful baby brother. Love him. :-) Otherwise not a big family at all. I also have a gaggle of family members in Sweden however.

Trisha April 10, 2011 at 8:08 am

You were practically in my backyard! My family lives in Highland. Therefore, I have been to that Paradise on several occasions. You are making me want to try Bikram sooo bad. And I loved the comment about granola making a shoe taste good…mostly because I’m sure that is true

Amanda April 10, 2011 at 9:12 am

You have such a cute family!

I have 4 younger siblings. Kerry is 24, Sarah 21, Emily 19 and Daniel is only 9! Daniel was a total surprise for my parents. I was 17 when he was born!

None of us have kids yet! Andy’s sister has 4 kids though. Nieces and nephews are fun.

Allison @ Runs A Latte April 10, 2011 at 9:18 am

A PB & Co. giveaway? That has to be the best give away I totally missed out on. I’m dying to try that maple flavor, but it doesn’t exist near me, or even in Stowe, Vermont, which being the maple capital of the U.S. was a bit surprising.

I have a 2 year-old niece, who I lived with for just about a year. I can honestly say that hardly anyone makes me smile more than she does. I’m can hardly go more than a week without seeing her!

Your family pics are so cute! It’s awesome that you have such a big family – it makes life so much better!

I hate cleaning the bathroom floor and unloading the dishwasher!

Mama Pea April 10, 2011 at 9:42 am

Why not lifecast when you’ve got such an amazing life? Glad you got some quality time with your adorable family!

Laura (LunaChickRuns) April 10, 2011 at 9:47 am

I have one younger brother who lives in Philly so I barely ever see him :-(

I hate cleaning the floors. HATE it. My floors only get cleaned once every few months at best. I also hate drying dishes and emptying the dishwasher (because some of the dishes always still need to be dried). Ugh.

Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) April 10, 2011 at 10:06 am

Shoot! You had a great day!! …and glad that Momma B liked yoga. You know, I have never met anyone who tried it and hated it. Some peeps say, it’s not for me (mostly boys who try)… but no most people love it after their first try. I need to find a studio!

I have 2 brothers and a sister. My older 1/2 brother is 42 & has two kiddos that are 5 (Steven) & 3(Meghan), my younger brother is 26 and isn’t married and has no kiddos – but does have a kitty with his gf who’s name is Maya & I have a younger sister who’s 19 and is obv is not married – she has a puppy named Champ who’s going to be like 100lbs!

Chore I would love to NOT do ever again = toss up between mopping & scrubbing base boards… I think I pick mopping.. It makes my robo back hurt!

Jess April 10, 2011 at 10:45 am

Such cute kids! I have three older siblings (two sisters and one brother). My oldest sister has a 6 year old daughter and a 10 year old son. I love em!

Allison @ Food For Healing April 10, 2011 at 11:05 am

i have an older married sister, and a younger brother. No nieces or nephews, although I am TRYING to convince my sister.. no such luck yet lol

I hate doing the dishes in the kitchen, when you have to wash them by hand.. it sucks! But i am the only one that does them so i just have to get used to it.

Morgan April 10, 2011 at 11:29 am

a blizzard? oh yuck! I hope we’re done with that in New England, but you never know!
OK, 1 younger brother, my husband has 2 brothers and 1 sister, and the sister and one brother are married so I have a sister in law and brother in law. From them, 3 nephews and 1 niece.
I DETEST mopping floors. I’d rather clean the bathroom than the floors, weird right?

Becs April 10, 2011 at 12:07 pm

Hey hun, just wanted to say how well your mum is looking. Hope all’s going well with her treatment. x

Emily April 10, 2011 at 12:08 pm

What a beautiful, blonde family you have! Also, I am jealous of your stocked and organized pantry. My pantry is so inadequate. I feel like my mom would be really disappointed in me if she were to look in it.

1. I have two sisters, one older and one younger. No nieces or nephews, but as of last year I have one brother-in-law! So that is something.

2. I don’t enjoy cleaning the shower. It’s just awkward. Do I stand in there, do I lean over the edge, do I fill the tub, do I use a bucket? I like to have a precise method for any task, and I still haven’t come up with a truly satisfactory shower-scrubbing method.

Michelle April 10, 2011 at 2:05 pm

Yum, Cinnamon Raisin Swirl is my favorite PB&Co. peanut butter!

You have such a beautiful family. You’re one lucky woman :-)

I have a brother and a sister. Both live far away so I see them rarely but I’m always glad when I do! And I really hate vacuuming. It’s a blessing that most of my apartment is hardwood floors.

Krista (joysofk) April 10, 2011 at 6:12 pm

Aww your fam is beautiful. I am an only child and always wanted a sibling or two…just not in the cards for me.

I loathe folding laundry as well…I let the clean stuff pile up, and pile up and PILE UP until I have a virgo spaz and fold the crap out of all of it!

Holly at Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices April 11, 2011 at 9:07 am

Your family is so gorgeous!
You all look so much a like- beautiful :)

marisa April 11, 2011 at 9:45 am

We made the blog! And while I’m not a celebrity, I don’t clean my own house. Love you!!

Shannon April 11, 2011 at 10:26 am

I have one brother who’s 22 (5 1/2 years younger then me)

I would choose cleaning the kitchen. It may have something to do with the fact that I was stuck being the dish washer in our culinary class the whole time when we were supposed to be switching every week in 6th grade… Plus, my aunt is a neat freak and she doesn’t want a smudge left in the kitchen which is hard for me! I actually enjoy folding. I help my mom out (except for my brother’s underwear) when I’m visiting her or if she brings some up.

Amy April 11, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Your nieces are adorable, they could pass as your sisters!
