flashback friday: happy new year.

in meals

*edited to add: i typed this and LOST all my photos from last night.. so then i had to buy a SD card recovery service for $40 and spend 4 hours recovering my photos. that is why this ended up posting so late. FML, but at least i got my photos back.

hello and welcome to a new day, a new week, a new month, a new year, a new decade.  hope the first of 2010 has been treating you well!

before i forget, i added a blogroll page. if your name is not there and you know it should be, holler at me.  i went off of the post where i asked everyone to speak up if they were not yet on it. let me know. next up is my about me page.. lots of bloggie cleaning up to do.

SO! i have had an incredibly lazy start to my year, but before i tackle the details from today let’s rewind to yesterday.

janetha’s last day of 2009.

when i left you last i mentioned that i was waiting for marshall to wake up so we could eat together.  i finally managed to get him out of bed for a delicious breakfast slash brunch.

egg + laughing cow + avocado + turkey on wheat & diced pears.

IMG_4542

mmm.. laughing cow wedges make any meal so much better!  i love how creamy they are and also that each wedge is just 35 calories.

IMG_4540

marshall and i ran to the mall in the afternoon.  big mistake.  i ended up getting a bad case of anxiety due to the lines and the crowds.  arg!  eventually we got out of there and stopped by a few friends houses to drop off their christmas gifts.. a tad late ;)

by the time we were finished with all of our errands, we only had an hour before we had to leave for a new year’s party.  take out it was!

cafe rio grilled chicken salad with no rice and easy on the black beans.

IMG_4545

then it was off to the party! the party invite said to wear a tie or a dress~so i wore both!

File0048

don’t mind the purple teeth. i suppose that is what a glass of red wine tends to do to pearly whites.

hey ladies!

File0077

a couple more..

File0129File0112

apparently there was a part in the middle of my bangs all night long and i never knew it. ha. hate that! oh well.

it was a really fun party and i was so glad all of my friends were there as well as some of marshall’s friends.  it was a great mix of people and we all had a blast.  sometimes new year’s can end up being a bust and i was stoked that this time around turned out to be such a huge success!

janetha’s first day of 2010.

today has been rather uneventful.  well, aside from the fact that the dog we are tending barfed all over my bed this morning. what a way to start the year!

marshall made us some coffees to go using the french press and then we paid a visit to his dad’s house so we could finally exchange christmas gifts with his dad & step mom.  after that, we went to eat at red rooster waffle company which turned out to be a hit!

the restaurant is locally owned and offers a large selection of sweet and savory waffles, breakfast favorites and lunch selections.  i went with a multigrain waffle, 2 eggs over medium & bacon.

File0045

side note: this was one of the photos i had to recover.. and it got cut off. woops.

it was exactly what i was craving and i ate every bite, minus the strip of bacon i gave to marshall.

later this afternoon i had a snack~

double fiber english muffin + naturally more + cranberry apple butter

IMG_4737IMG_4739

i also had an unphotographed pear.

i napped after eating this snack and woke up feeling refreshed!  it has been an incredibly lazy start to the year~ my day off from exercise and didn’t get anything too productive done.  but i have all year to be productive, right?! ;)

i have been snacking on random things this evening but nothing worth mentioning.  i need to pay a visit to the grocery store tomorrow!

resolutions!

my new year’s resolution last year was to not eat candy.  i still ate sweets~ just no packaged candy.  guess what?  i did it. :D  and so did marshall.  i am proud of both of us!  we each had a piece of candy after midnight to break our streak!

resolutions for 2010.

i decided on three resolutions this year.  i never like to do anything to extreme~i want to have resolutions i can actually keep.

here they are:

  • floss my teeth every day
    • this is something i should already do, but i don’t.  i think that i will be more motivated to do it if i make it a resolution because i hate to fail.
  • run 400 miles this year
    • i am by no means a runner.  you all may think 400 miles is a tiny amount in a year.  but for me, it is a lot.  probably almost double the amount i ran last year.  it averages out to about 33-34 miles each month, or just over 8 miles a week.
  • don’t drink soda
    • i don’t even like soda and drink it on rare occasion.  usually when i am sick or if marshall has a soda at the movies.  i decided to just not even drink it at all this year, what’s the point?

there are my three resolutions!  here’s hoping that i can stick to them.  it is really late, i have GOT to get to bed.  but first, i better go floss my teeth :)

i will be back tomorrow with:

  • winner for the skin MD natural shielding lotion giveaway
  • my official plan for whipping my body into bikini-ready shape by february 5th
  • review of december goals

hope you all have a fun weekend!

Qs~

1. what did you do for NYE?

2. what were your 2009 resolutions? did you keep them? what are your resolutions for 2010?

happy new year!

I just hanged around with the fam and friends!

Looking forward to reading your plan !

Tina January 2, 2010 at 3:05 am

Woah, when did you change your blog layout! :P

Did I miss it or is it really recent? I’m so slow :P…

I love your flashback fridays (and your dress)!)

I think your resolutions are great! I should be flossing everyday too, but the thing is I tend to run out of floss and be too lazy to get some more…
But I’m gonna try and up the running this year too (I need to justify buying those running shoes, right?)
Soda sucks. I’ve made a couple more of these realizations. There are so many things I eat/drink for no reason whatsoever, this year I’m only eating/drinking what I LIKE!

Love ya!

Tamzin January 2, 2010 at 3:18 am

Love the look of your new layout, looks like you had a fun new year! Your resolutions sound good and quite obtainable good for you! Mine is to not eat any sweets, the bad candy and only eat foods that are natural and good for me.

Not sure if you would want me on your blogroll but I saw you ask in this post if peeps wanted to be on there and I would LOVE to go on

Lauren January 2, 2010 at 5:53 am

Love the new look! This is the first time I am seeing it and I must say how impressive it is! :)

Glad you had a wonderful New Years and I think your resolutions are very commendable.

Take care girl and Happy 2010!!!!

Jessica @ How Sweet January 2, 2010 at 5:58 am

I love your outfit for the party!! So stinkin’ cute. We didn’t do much for NYE, just hung out then went to a family party. :)

Peanut Butter Bliss January 2, 2010 at 6:35 am

I like the new layout!

I’ve been dying to try that TJ’s cranberry apple butter. I may have to pick some up today!

Happy New Year!

ellie January 2, 2010 at 6:46 am

Love the new blog layout!

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPY 2010, Janetha! I was thinking about you last night and wondering whether you would eat candy (why this popped into my head at 10pm last night, I have no idea…maybe because I was craving candy!) Love seeing all your New Year’s pics. You and your friends look like the coolest people to hang out with.

1. what did you do for NYE? Chilled out at home and fell asleep by 10:30pm. Oops. It was 2010 already in Australia at least.

2. what were your 2009 resolutions? did you keep them? what are your resolutions for 2010? 2009 I wanted my meals to be blog worthy…at that point, I didn’t even own a camera, never mind blog about food. I kind of did it, I guess? I didn’t set any specifics, just that I wanted to try food blogging so I guess I did accomplish it. 2010…go back to school and some food stuff :)

Susan January 2, 2010 at 7:14 am

You changed your format!! Ah! Janetha, you have got to warn me about things like this. It startled me :P I love it. I also love that your blogroll is called “links to lurk.”

Yes, Laughing Cow DOES make everything taste a million times better. The dress/tie was a stellar choice. And waffles sound like the perfect way to start off 2010 :)

1. I went to a house party at Chris’ friend’s place. Was up waaaay too late, but had a few good laughs.

2. In 2009 all I wanted to do was get a job after graduation and do a triathlon – both of which I did (we’ll ignore that I quit said job). My big one for 2010 is to LIVE and do the things I want to do. I have this new sense of freedom now that I’m not tied down to school and I want to take advantage of it :)

The Fit Collegiate January 2, 2010 at 7:29 am

Looks like you had a fun new year’s! Your resolutions are eerily similar to mine…I’ve resolved to be more attentive to my dental health (my pearly whites aren’t looking so pearly now that I’ve taken up coffee-drinking), and I’m also hoping to ease my way back into running (I used to be an avid runner but was sidelined a year ago by a sports injury). Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year!

Lizzy January 2, 2010 at 7:47 am

love this new look girl! its so cute! :)

Happy New Year!!! i love the flashback photos too! I need to go through mine and see what i’ve done in years past! hehe

i love your resolutions too! i should totally add flossing to mine. as simple as it sounds i bet alot of people don’t do it!!! I think the other 2 are fab as well. this past summer i quite drinking diet pop and i haven’t had one since! it feels soo good, so i totally know you can do it girl!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR MY LIL’ JANETHA BEAN!

your layout is adorable…very sleek and elegant, just like you. obvs :)

and i spent my new years day the same way – chillaxin’ and just being lazy, which i think is probs the best way to start the new years. then i feel guilty for being lazy, and hi ho hi ho – motivated holly!!!!

yay for flashbacks – always love seeing people in the past. i love the houndstooth jacket thang you are working too. and did i ever tell you ive always wanted bangs like yours? unfortunately, curly bangs don’t do that. i should know. i had them.

love youuuuu and think your resolutions are fab – i wish i could kick my diet coke habit. that’s what 2011 is for, right? have a fab day!

Jenna January 2, 2010 at 8:38 am

Glad you had a great NYE! Eats look like a great start to the new year!! Love your goals!
Jenna

*Andrea* January 2, 2010 at 8:39 am

happy new years! your goals are AWESOME. i hate purple-teeth syndrome.. i also get yellowy/brown teeth from too much coffee ughhhh. now i carry my toothbrush and paste when i go places (yep, loser). you look pretty though with your outfit and gorgeous blonde hair ;)

april January 2, 2010 at 8:47 am

I love the new blog layout! I’ve been experimenting with mine too!

And Laughing Cow does make everything better! It’s really good on eggs too!

And they make cranberry apple butter?? Why wasn’t I aware of this??

Marlow January 2, 2010 at 8:53 am

Sadly, I am also that girl that freaks when she’s a dog…even though I have one of my own! And yes, Laughing Cow makes pretty much EVERYTHING better!! Love the flashback friday!

Emily January 2, 2010 at 8:58 am

You didn’t put Eatventures on your blogroll, I love that site! I kid, I kid :) Serioursly though, I’ve been sans internet for a bit and I love your bloggie changes, so snazzy!!

ProteinGirl January 2, 2010 at 9:03 am

You look so pretty in your killer dress/tie combo! I like your goals! I want to participate in at least 2 charity races, stop putting myself in compromising situations, and no stress eating. Easier said than done! Please add me to your blog roll!!!
Have a fabulous Jan2! I am off to the gym!
Barbara

closet365project January 2, 2010 at 9:05 am

Ooh. I like your mileage resolution. I took six weeks off from the treadmill and did the elipitical instead, but I miss running and it’s time to start thinking about my 10k.

Love your New Year’s dress!

Stacy (Fighting 2 be Fit) January 2, 2010 at 9:20 am

Great resolutions! I especially like the mileage. Something that is great for you and also measurable. I would love to be on your blog roll as I am just getting started on my journey of working with a personal trainer and bloging about my journey. http://fighting2befit.blogspot.com. This year for NYE we hung out with the hubbies parents and a few other family. Very low key. I didn’t make resolutions for 2009, not that I didn’t need a few .

carolinebee January 2, 2010 at 9:32 am

Thanks for putting me on your rollllll :D I need to do mine! Fun new year’s recaps, i know straight forward bangs can be a hassle to do but they look soooo so good on u!!

Allie (Live Laugh Eat) January 2, 2010 at 9:55 am

We’re gonna have to remind each other to floss!!! I might hate flossing more than I hate to fail :) Glad you got your photos back. I didn’t know there was such a thing as SD recovery.

inmytummy January 2, 2010 at 10:07 am

Happy New Year! It’s fun to see all your New Years pictures. That’s great that you didn’t eat candy all year. I’m not a huge candy person, but I don’t think I could go a year without it!

I went out to dinner and then to a laid back bar with some friends for NYE.

Meredith January 2, 2010 at 10:17 am

I like the tie! Wishing you a joyous new year!

Carbzilla January 2, 2010 at 11:07 am

Happy New Year! Thanks for adding me to the Blogroll!

Good job on giving up candy! I’d given it up and then Chris bought me Swedish Fish for Christmas – but those our gone now and back on the no candy thing!

You’re a kick for wearing a tie!

You’ll see what I did for NYE!

Allison (Eat Clean Live Green) January 2, 2010 at 11:12 am

I love the new layout! glad you got your photos back :)

kbwood January 2, 2010 at 11:23 am

Wow awesome update and great resolutions…

I am still working on mine.

Katie

Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) January 2, 2010 at 12:08 pm

long lines and crowds at the mall totally gives me anxiety too. So…not down.

I didn’t do a flashback friday post since I am still getting back to reality after being out of town for awhile. But I did write a year in review post!

Flossing my teeth is one of my resolutions too! I really need to get back to doing it daily.

Tracey January 2, 2010 at 1:17 pm

Looks like you always have the best time! My NYE was very low key, just spent it at home with the husband.

I’m with you on the laughing cow cheese. Not only is it good but it is portion controlled for people like me:)

Katie January 2, 2010 at 1:22 pm

Nice new look!

I went to a friend’s house for NYE and stayed out so late that I started getting grumpy like a toddler. :-) Oh well, just an excuse to sleep in on Friday.

I didn’t do resolutions last year, but have a few this year. I want to try more new recipes, do more yoga, and be a more joyful person! Happy 2010.

PS. I would LOVE to be on your blogroll. ;-)

Michelle January 2, 2010 at 1:44 pm

Awesome resolutions Janetha!! Very attainable! Congrats on sticking with your no candy resolution…that sounds like a hard one! :) Loved all the NYE pics!

Naomi(onefitfoodie) January 2, 2010 at 2:18 pm

AHH WHEN DID YOU CHANGE YOUR BLOG!! I LOVE it…omg it is SO you and I love teh set up!!!

your resolutions are great, I want to floss everyday too! I read somewhere that just by flossing everyday you can add another whole year to your life! done, and done! we can keep eachother accountable!

my new years was fun! very laid back..me and the boy went to dinner then went for a drink and were back to watch the ball drop at 12! fun fun fun….have a great weekend lovely :)

Sweet Cheeks January 2, 2010 at 2:20 pm

Sounds like some good NYs goals I’m sure you can do it!

P.S. did you ever get me back on google reader?

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) January 2, 2010 at 5:31 pm

First, wow. You totally pimped up a new layout! Looks awesome! New tabs, links, the whole she bang. You rock.

Photos. Girl. I got to Aruba without any of the proper card reader jazz for the old laptop I had with. Pretty much spent $75 for a piece of sh*t setup that barely, hardly worked for the 3 weeks i was there and was just awful. At least i had pics, but barely. And can feel your pain. Thank god you recovered your stuff. About 6 weeks ago i blogged that i bought a backup hard drive where my stuff gets backed up to b/c I had 8000 un-backed up photos and i was nervous as hell. Problem solved for 69 bucks.

Anyway hon, happy 2010!!!!!!!!!!! love u!!!!!!!!

lisaou11 January 2, 2010 at 6:10 pm

Love the new layout! And looking through your pictures…you get prettier and prettier each year!

1. We went to a delish Cajun restaurant and then over to a friends house. It was nice!

Oh, and PS…for the blogroll…lisaou11.wordpress.com

Runeatrepeat January 2, 2010 at 6:11 pm

Love the blog makeover :)
I’m not the b’roll and would like to be if there’s space :)

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) January 2, 2010 at 6:30 pm

Can I just be the first to say that in my humble opinion, the chopped off Medium egg/bacon photo was TOTALLY worth $40. There I said it. You should feel so happy!

<3 Mable & any and all animals at parties/on the street- I'm the same way!

I didn't set any expectations for 2009 so I suppose that I exceeded them! Ha ha! Not entirely true. I didn't set out to do it, but I did ditch the food records b/c they were holding me prisoner. And leave the blender at home while I was away b/c it's the right and non-crazy thing to do! :-)

2010. The only thing is to not drink booze for the first 3 months. Otherwise, it's the usual stuff- eat healthier, drink more water, also drink less soda.

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) January 2, 2010 at 6:31 pm

PS. Loved the FBF- you look great every year and do not age- what’s up with that! Love that first year photo with marshall too- so cute together :-)

Stef @ moretolifethanlettuce January 2, 2010 at 9:48 pm

i’m definitely that weird girl who freaks out over every dog too, but that one is SO CUTE i think anyone would freak! laughing cow does make everything taste so good, and can’t beat those nutritional stats. happy new year!

muffy January 2, 2010 at 10:20 pm

awwwwww I LOVE your outfit haha :)

plastictofu January 3, 2010 at 12:02 am

i love your NYE outfit — and i looove that cran apple butter. i’ll take that over jelly/jam/butter any day! i also admire your resolutions – they’re ambitious but reasonable…i think too many people go way over the top and just end up discouraged and intimidated, which always leads to failure.
i don’t think i had any last year, but some of mine this year are:
-eat clean, mostly vegan foods *when* i want in the *quantities* i want to push out some unhealthy habits
-trust myself more – i always second guess myself, but i think i have a pretty good idea at this point of what’s going on :)

also, i just started my blog, but i would seriously dig being on your blogroll if there’s room left: plastictofu.wordpress.com

jenngirl January 3, 2010 at 7:56 am

So glad you were able to recover your pictures! I don’t think I would have known how to handle that situation.

Love the pics of new year’s eves past, you’ve had a great couple of years :)

1. I drank wine and one of my friends taught me how to knit!

2. I didn’t have any resolutions in 2009–but one of my goals for 2010 is to continue working on my newfound photography hobby!

Jenn N. January 3, 2010 at 3:40 pm

I’m a “weird dog girl” too. Ha!!

I spent New Years hanging out with family. It was fun since I haven’t been back home for 2.5 years.

I haven’t fully decided on my New Year’s goals.

Ildie January 4, 2010 at 2:06 pm

I always make resolutions I can’t keep. Maybe I should follow your lead and make some that aren’t insane and impossible!

I spent New Years bowling, playing board games, drinking and feasting. Good times. :) On the 1st we also did the annual fireworks burning of the Christmas Tree. HA!

I’m still working on my list. Lame I know. But like you, I need to come up with ones I can actually KEEP for once. Maybe I will post on this on my blog tonight or tomorrow night. I NEED MORE TIME! ;)

katecooks January 5, 2010 at 1:49 pm

happy belated New Year! sorry you had to deal with all that camera BS!!! glad it’s all back to good now. cute pics from NYE, love your interpretation of tie & dress :) i have the SAME issue with my bangs. i put all my friends on bang check and am constantly fixing them before photos. somehow no one else seems to notice it but me!

oh! and i’d love to be on ur blog roll! i totally need to update mine.
