flashback friday round eleven.

by Janetha on October 30, 2009

in meals

can i just start out by posting this incredibly awesome “unofficial trader joe’s commercial”.. i think this is my new favorite song. for reals.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdB7GDZY3Pk]

if you haven’t noticed, i have been getting into the habit of taking thursday nights off and then posting flashback friday earlier in the day rather than at the end of the day.  this has not been on purpose, i have just been turbo busy.  but in all honesty, i kind of like the way it jives.. the whole posting sunday night through wednesday night, taking thursday off, posting friday afternoon and then maybe once on saturday if i have time. it works wonderfully for me, sooo yep. end of story.

yesterday was sooo so so incredibly jam packed busy! and unfortunately blogging has taken the back burner once again in my life. google reader is up in the 300 range again so i am sorry to be absent from reading and commenting. i know that life will be back to normal soon.. after the move and after san francisco and after i unpack.. ok so maybe not as soon as i would like.. but soon enough, eh?

how about a little recap of thursday?

the moment i got to work i was busy, busy, busy.  one of those days where i should have eaten at home because there was absolutely no chance i was making anything for breakfast. sigh. i was bummed because yesterday was national oatmeal day and i wanted to celebrate!

it wasn’t until 10:47 AM that i finally managed to grab something quick.. this was cutting it real close to lunch time but i had to get something in my belly. i was ornery to the max times infinity plus nine.

shredded spoonfuls + unsweetened vanilla almond breeze

IMG_7566

i think shredded spoonfuls just might be my fave cereal at the moment! i love the way each piece captures the milk in between the layers.. like a cage.  yeah, i never said i was normal.

before i could even wash my cereal bowl i was out the door, my boss and i had to run to costco & to pick up the food for our halloween luncheon. on the menu? sugarhouse bbq.

vegetarians and vegans beware. our luncheon had a lot of meat.  i only ate the turkey but there was smoked turkey, ribs, brisket and pulled pork.

IMG_7573

i made a salad with spinach+feta+slivered almonds+craisins+poppyseed dressing.. always a hit. my go-to salad, if you will.

IMG_7567

i also made funeral potatoes.. i think they are only called this in utah.. and they are for any and every occasion, not just funerals.  basically it is the most fattening dish ever.. you take boiled & grated potatoes, monterey jack cheese, sharp cheddar cheese, cream of chicken soup, green onions and seven million pounds of sour cream.  mix it all together and bake for an hour. trust me, they are amazing.

IMG_7584

some of the other gals in the office brought items.. greek pasta salad, pumpkin loaf, apple strudel and sugar cookies.

here is my plate~

IMG_7586

not too bad considering all those treats i passed up. and i ate until i was satisfied, not until i was stuffed. yesss.. good thing i had that bowl of cereal or i think i may have eaten too much at lunch. never go to a work luncheon ready to eat your arm off. the end results will not be pretty.

i was glad that marshall’s job was a small one yesterday and he was able to make it to the lunch!

IMG_7588

after the luncheon i played hookie.. ok not really since i told my bosses where i was going.. but marshall & i went to my new house & reassembled my ikea bed (i heart the malm series) and then to my old house and loaded up marshall’s truck with my full size freezer, a leather chair and penny’s crate. ay ay ay.. one thing after another. i have too much crap. i look forward to the day i have a house of my own and can just stop living from house to house and box to box. it gets old.

back to work for approximately 3 hours. busy busy busy. no time to read a one blog yesterday :(

i did eat this in the car. new flavor alert! berry almond luna~

IMG_7589

i would buy this again based on the color alone. look how rad!

IMG_7593

i really liked this flavor. the stats.. meh, a little high in carbs and not high enough in protein, but what can you do?

IMG_7590

after work i had all sorts of errands to run.. i ended up snagging some super cute wesc clothes! why is that brand so dang expensive? even with my friend of an employee discount at dogfunk.com it was still all so expensive! but so cute. i bought 2 dresses and 1 shirt, all of which you will see me wear at the foodbuzz fest. yeeee.

by the time i was done with my errands it was 8:45 PM.. ummm.. working out was out of the question. damn. there goes that goal right out the window. instead of working out i stuffed my face with the most glorious salad known to man.

cafe rio salad

IMG_7597 IMG_7596

in my defense.. i did order it sans cheese, sans rice and with a wheat tortilla.

after chowing down on that i packed up my subi with even MORE stuff.. laundry basket, full length mirror, drawer, lamp.. it never ends.  hung out with my old roomies for a bit. i miss them <3 and then went home to my new abode and did some unpacking and then decided to give up! i hung out with the new roomies for awhile and we ended up talking until one in the morning.. awesome that we have so much to talk about.. not awesome that i got hardly any sleep!

friday!

not to worry (in case you were worried) i ended up celebrating national oatmeal day a day late.. i had some mighty maple protein oats for breakfast this morning!

IMG_7598

and i have been working my tail off ever since. i am so excited to get out of town next week!

I love all your costumes, those homemade ones are incredible, what great ideas. :)

I didn’t get to celebrate natl oatmeal day either, damn. I did have some this morning too though!

1) I was planning on wearing my wedding dress and a godzilla mask but now I have nowhere to wear it to….

2) Stovetop is best but I never have time so I just soak old-fashioned oats in h2o overnight then microwave them in the am. Makes it super creamy and fluffy. Almond butter is a must for add ins!

leianna October 30, 2009 at 12:04 pm

I love all your costumes from years past, you are so creative!
my favorite oatmeal is tropical with pineapple, mandarin oranges and coconut!

jocelyneatsfresh October 30, 2009 at 12:20 pm

Love LOVE all of your costumes :) OMG my boyfriend LOVES aqua teen hunger force. He forced me to watch some episodes with him…yea – you can tell your man that its really nothing to write home about. loool. I believe I went to bed early and locked him out of the room :P

That berry luna bar LOOKS WICKED…Can’t wait to find one of those!

Have a fab weekend!

Lizzy October 30, 2009 at 12:24 pm

Hallie October 30, 2009 at 12:55 pm

Love the costumes! I don’t even know where old photos of me all dressed up are, otherwise I would so do flashback friday!

My boyfriend and I are dressing up at Jon and Kate. It’s going to be great (even though Heidi and Spencer already did it, they totally stole the idea from us!!)

Devan G Newman October 30, 2009 at 12:56 pm

hahahah I totally enjoyed that tj’s commercial! Man, i wish I had one near me…

you are SO gorgeous!! your pinup costume is HOT!

Holly October 30, 2009 at 1:03 pm

janetha…you make a kick arse pin-up girl! love it. ummm i don’t know if i am going to go out for halloween this year (its pending) but its all good. take all the time you need to get everything figured out – moving is the biggest pain in the arse ever!!!!

love youuuuuu and wish i was going to foodbuzz so i could see your darling outfits in person :(

Susan October 30, 2009 at 1:18 pm

I think I love your viking costume best!!

1. I’m not celebrating Halloween this year and I am veryvery upset about it. We’ll keep it at that.

2. Tough. There’s a few. PB&J oats, chocolate protein oats with chocolate chips, PB and coconut, or an oatmeal parfait with oats, yogurt, berries and fibre cereal :)

eatolive October 30, 2009 at 1:22 pm

hmmm … im guessing that you and marshall are going to be a mouse and a cookie for “if you give a mouse a cookie..” hahah just thought it would be something you could re-use the mouse costume for ;)

adorable costumes!! i wish i could say i was dressing up this year but alas, i am lame.

have a good halloween!!!!

Katie October 30, 2009 at 1:32 pm

Love that pin-up girl costume! You are too cute. I told my husband that Marshall was “The Shake” and he laughed and said…”No waaaaay!” – he knew who that was.

I’m not dressing up b/c we are still buried under snow and have no where to go. I’m okay with just watching scary movies and handing candy out to the kiddos in the neighborhood.

Happy Friday!

onefitfoodie October 30, 2009 at 1:33 pm

you are just too cute for words LOVE your past costumes, the toga won my heart!

mmm I am not a vegetarian, so all that meat did look tasty!

LOL the funeral potatoes do sound fattening but also looked delicious! :)

I cant wait to see pix of you and marshall from halloween this year!

LOVE the TJS commercial thanks for sharing darlinggg

I THINK i figured out my reader issues, but not sure, Anways I keep posting!!

Emily (The Experimentarian) October 30, 2009 at 1:53 pm

ha! That song! I want the man-shaped cereal. Love your viking costume!!

lowandbhold October 30, 2009 at 1:53 pm

I tried to participate in flashback friday, but my computer kept messing up and not accepting the pics :(

You looked so pretty in the greek goddess costume! You were glowing!

1. I’m sooooo unoriginal. This is the first time I’ve dressed up in YEARS, but I’m going as an “eskimo” because the costume was long-sleeved and I didn’t have to wear heels :) I didn’t wanna be cold!
2. I like plain jane pb oats w/ fresh strawbs and banana. Stovetop, def.

Have a good weekend!

april October 30, 2009 at 1:58 pm

I’m so mad I missed out on national oatmeal day! The only day I don’t have oatmeal..grr! haha.

I’m not dressing up this year :( I can’t wait to see what your going to be this year!

jenngirl October 30, 2009 at 2:28 pm

Aw hope your life gets back to normal, at least you have enough time to blog!! ;)

I can totally relate to the love of certain types of cereals for “crazy” reasons…ain’t it the best?

Glad you’re able to stay connected with the old roomies while bonding with the new ones! So fun :)

1. Cheerleader, and for those who watch Glee, specifically, a CHEERIO!

2. I can’t decide if overnight oats with banana and pb are my fave OR stovetop, with pb, ab, banana, and jelly!!

lots of cinnamon, either way.

ellie October 30, 2009 at 2:46 pm

I love the Viking costumes!!!! So cool.

K. Oats. I have been eating oats like nobody’s business since I got home0 current favourite- 1/3 cup oats + cinnamon + vanilla protein powder, cooked in water and left to go cold. Then top with blueberries and Fage- mash all together and top with almond butter. YUM.

Halloween…this year I will be whatever it is that is wearing sweatpants, hoody and fleecy bathrobe! Oh, jetlag…I do not love you.

Jenny October 30, 2009 at 3:22 pm

I swear, on days when we’re extra busy google reader just adds imaginary posts to stress us out.

I’m pretty sure you were a greek goddess in another life, J, you look PERF!!! and your a pretty hot viking as well ;)

LOVE YOU MATEY!

ksgoodeats October 30, 2009 at 3:42 pm

Moving would probably just give me a heart attack. Recarpeting (aka moving my shiz in and out of my room) made me cry so the thought of carrying that shiz out of the house to a new location could send me over the edge!

Love the Halloween flashback!

1. You’ve got to wait to find out!! ;)
2. Do you even have to ask that question to me?!

glidingcalm October 30, 2009 at 3:48 pm

ahhh this was so fun!! you have had wayyy better costumes than I have had!! i love the toga and the viking especially! actually, the pin up girl is pretty adorable! ahh I like them all! haha!!

happy weekend!!!!!!!!! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Kailey (SnackFace) October 30, 2009 at 3:49 pm

OMG are you and Marshall going as peanut butter and jelly? How about pita and hummus? Perhaps beer bottle and glass? OK, so maybe those are my favorite foodie combos, but they could be cute. Maybe.

Um, you are a PERFECT pinup girl! Wowww!

I think I’m going to be Mrs.Officer. First time doing the sexy thing for H-ween.

And I’m all about the peanut butter addition to oats!

Please have a lovely weekend!! XOXOXOXO

Karin October 30, 2009 at 3:51 pm

haha, this morning I wanted to comment how cool your blog is and thought it was kind of lame so I deleted it but now I just HAVE to comment. you’re going to see the sounds???? Ah, one of my favourite bands evern and I’m super jealous right now. I have a major girl crush on maja. have fun at the concert!

love your halloween outfits by the way, esp. the viking and greek goddess costumes

balancejoyanddelicias October 30, 2009 at 4:29 pm

oh… this is the most hilarious and fun flash back post! I love how you look in that greek goddness outfit! So beautiful and sexy! :)
oatmeal day? oh… I missed that! My favorite oatmeal? with banana, almond milk and almond butter as topping! :)

inmytummy October 30, 2009 at 4:38 pm

Your costumes are all so creative. I’m a lame-o when it comes to Halloween. I’ve been a cowgirl for like three years in a row!

Emily October 30, 2009 at 5:10 pm

great costumes!

the sounds?! shoo

1. I don’t know yet! running out of time!

2. I hardly eat oats anymore, for some reason. my go-to: equal parts rolled oats, oat bran and wheat bran, cooked in water, with hemp or rice protein stirred in at the end. raisins, if I have any. otherwise, I eat my fruit on the side :)

have a great weekend!!

Allison (Eat Clean Live Green) October 30, 2009 at 5:19 pm

Cute costumes! I like your posting schedule , I feel like you post enough but not too much, so I can keep up with what’s going on with you! :)

I’m not dressing up this year. But I did celebrate National Oatmeal Day with some ‘Carrot Cake’ Oats!

Sarah October 30, 2009 at 5:26 pm

I am OBSESSED with that TJ’s video. Epic.

I love all your halloween outfits! Especially the pinup girl. So cute. I am totally rockin’ the Hannah Montana, and my fav way to eat oats are straight up with milk, almond buttah, cinnamon and pumpkin butter. Topped with some kind of crunch. Granola or nuts, whatever it may be! nom nom

Tina October 30, 2009 at 5:56 pm

Halloween brunch tomorrow with mah girls!

That’s how we roll…

xxx

P.S. Pin-up girl = favorite outfit :P

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) October 30, 2009 at 7:16 pm

Bullet point style
I did FBF pics today too. Yay!
Sorry your life is sooo busy. I just moved. Across state lines and so I totally understand the internal hell that is moving and having nothing organized.

Zevia. Ironically contact there said she “hand shipped” your winnings early this week, like Wed. So of course, they went to your old addy. So be on the lookout, you will likely have mail there still. Hope you have access to it??!! Or possibly UPS package out front.

All your HWeen costume are hot. Pinup girl fo sure!

And I am impressed you have everything on your hard drive or memory stix. All my really good pics are in 4×6 format.

I wish I was going to Food Buzz Blogger Convention. Child. Can’t. Another year I hope….

Blogging/life and the juggling act….yes many times I wonder what the hell I am doing spending so much time on my ‘puter b/c in 20 yrs, hell in 20 months or 20 weeks, I will not care or remember. Most likely. So I am trying to cut back yet dont know how really. Then I see Google Reader 300++ and freak and compulsively read and comment on everyone….

yeah, I’m with ya.

xoxo

Whole Body Love October 30, 2009 at 9:58 pm

My mother-in-law makes funeral potatoes and calls them “Cheesy ‘Taters”. I was a little surprised when I asked for the recipe and I saw the cream of chicken…who knew? I love your costumes …I can’t decide if which I love more: the pin-up girl or the goddess

Mary :: A Merry Life October 30, 2009 at 9:58 pm

i LOVE all your costumes! Especially the ones you made. They are pretty good.

Today I dressed up as an 80s aerobics instructor. Tomorrow I might not even dress up since I’m working. Eh.

Oats with pb and banana. Yummmms.

BroccoliHut October 30, 2009 at 10:15 pm

Bummer that the LUNA stats weren’t up to par. What’s your fave bar for its carb/protein ratio?
My fave way to eat oats is more of a dessert–with cocoa, banana, coconut, and almonds!

Julia October 31, 2009 at 12:19 am

That’s weird that the stats for Luna Bars changed, I know they revamp their products, but weird that they would do it to the extent that it affects nutrition info like that.

I LOVE your flashback friday! You have made some awesome costumes – the greek goddess and pin-up girl outfits are great!

Michal October 31, 2009 at 5:42 am

What a fun flashback! For hallowee this year im being a cat which actually turned out to be reall cute :) Happy Halloween!

Andrea@WellnessNotes October 31, 2009 at 6:11 am

Your costumes are amazing. Can’t wait to see your other foodie costume… ;)

I like to cook my oatmeal on the stovetop, too. Lately, I have been adding some pumpkin butter (very little) and walnuts. It’s my favorite right now.

Happy Halloween! :)

Adi (oatonomy.com) October 31, 2009 at 12:27 pm

My favourite way to enjoy oats? Would be eating them. :)

Okay, for real, I cook them on the stove with some almond milk and sliced naner, and then top with whatever I want: nuts, raisins, granola, berries… and a big lump of nut butter.

Great costumes! I’m embarassed to say I know about Aqua Teen Hunger Force… moving right along…

I added you to my blog roll – hope that’s cool!

Happy halloween! Looking forward to seeing your costume.

runningaroundnormal October 31, 2009 at 12:57 pm

Love your FBF posts:D The pin up girl costume is wayyyy too cute.

Happy Halloween!!

Sweet Cheeks November 1, 2009 at 9:50 am

I love all of your costumes..so cute! Can’t wait to see what you were this year!

Gahh, favorite way to eat oatmeal?!? Now that is a hard question. I’d have to say: cooked on the stove, with 1/2 smashed naner cooked in for creaminess, the other half of the naner sliced on top, and an abundance of NUT BUTTER!

fittingbackin November 1, 2009 at 3:51 pm

I LOVE that video – hand’s down hilarious! It rings so true – cracks me up. Thanks for sharing! Also – love the past halloween costumes – awesome! So cool that you made them.

luckytastebuds November 1, 2009 at 7:10 pm

Ahhhh what AWESOME costumes!!! You and your friends are such fun people…fun and creative too! Truly reflected in your food Janetha! :)

Those funeral potatoes are definitely interesting. I would have only guessed that they’re named funeral potatoes because they cause death if you eat too much of it, but I think I like your explanation of it better. hehehe

My favorite oatmeal is microwaved (because it’s fast and awesome when I’m hungry) then stirred with pumpkin and cinnamon. Topped with frozen blueberries and a big dollop of yogurt. muhahaha breakfast in heaven!
