dear stella,

the fact that you are five months old already is kind of freaking me out. i swear it was just last month that we brought you home from the hospital. and now you are this giant (but still tiny) baby that is learning and growing and doing new things each and every day. it is going much too fast. much faster than it did with your brother, for some reason. pretty sure i said that last month.. and this month is no different. i don’t like it one bit.. but i like you a whole lot!

this past month started with your four month checkup. you are actually a tiny baby, even though i think you are getting too big. you clocked in at 12 lbs 12 oz, which is the 19th percentile for weight. you are now 23.75" tall, which is the 7th percentile for height.. little shorty like your momma. your head was 15 7/8" which is the 40th percentile for head. i am wondering if your noggin will surpass the charts, like fox’s did. we shall see. you had a round of shots, which was more sad for me than for you. you only cried for a second and then they really didn’t phase you the rest of the day/night. that’s great. you are a trooper.

you have still kept your calm and cool composure. you really are just the chillest baby in all the land. you rarely cry, you smile and giggle all the time, and you are just happy to be here.

i will say your sleep has regressed just a tad. you used to only wake up once, mayyybe twice in the night. but lately it has been more often. for a few nights, it was up to 5 or 6 times in the night. that was rough. but then i remember that you are just a little baby and the fact that you were sleeping so well before was probably not the norm. luckily those nights with many wakeups did not last long, but now days you are still waking up more than in the beginning. you will go to sleep around 6:30 or 7, and your first wake up is now around midnight. then you will wake up usually two more times before morning.. so i would say an average of three times each night. you also aren’t sleeping in anymore. i am sure this is because fox wakes up early, and you also have to get up to go to work a few days a week, so now you are just programmed to wake up before the sun.

you are pretty consistent with taking three naps a day, now. a short morning one, a longer second one, and a short one in the late afternoon. the lengths of your naps are really all over the map. sometimes that long one is three hours, other times only one hour. but the best part is that you are never cranky, so you must be getting enough sleep to power through your day.

you are eating lots. and lots. and lots!! you are getting so, so chubby and i LOVE it! you are a roly poly bug and i love all those yummy rolls. you definitely eat more on the days that your dad has you at home, probably because it’s just so easy for you to drink milk from a bottle. sometimes after you’ve had bottles all day, you will be a pill about nursing when i get home from work. i don’t blame you, it takes more effort to nurse than it does to drink from a bottle. but luckily, no nursing strikes.. so far, so good.

you tried your first food! your dad was making tacos.. or was it quesadillas? i forget. but we had plenty of avocado on hand, so we decided to give you a few bites. you really weren’t sure about it. definitely were skeptical about having something solid in your mouth. but i am thinking that overall, you liked it. you didn’t spit it out or make a face.. so that’s a good sign. we haven’t tried any other foods, yet, but we are planning to start incorporating some new things this coming month! i am sure you will love it… you are always staring us down when we are eating in front of you. you want to be in on the pizza party, i know it.

you are still loving your hands, you shove those guys in your mouth constantly. you always love to slowly move your hands in front of your face, seemingly fascinated by them. you also love to stare at your feet. i am sure it is exciting to realize you have all these body parts that you are gaining more and more control over! you will take your binky in and out of your mouth, and hold it in front of your face and just stare at it for ages. i love the curiosity in your eyes.

it’s safe to say that fox is your favorite person. you will smile and giggle for me and your dad.. but fox.. oh, boy. he cracks you right up. you could watch him all day long, laughing at everything you see him do. he loves to make noises to you and you laugh these great big belly laughs when he does it. it makes my heart sing! i seriously can’t get enough of the two of you interacting.. it is the very best.

you are loving tubby time, as usual, and you have really started kicking things up a notch! you will kick those legs so fast and furiously, it splashes water all over the bathroom. you don’t love getting your neck washed, but you are pretty content with getting your hair washed and water being poured over your head. your face, not so much. but you could stay in the tub for a long time and just be happy kicking away!

after your bath, we have tummy time, and you are loving it lately. you have stayed on your tummy for longer stretches and you don’t get mad. you also haven’t been rolling a ton.. you like to just lay there on your belly. oh! but one day, we were at work, and you were laying on your mat on your back. i was on a phone call, and i heard you squealing. i looked over, only to find that you were on your belly and weren’t sure how you got there! so i guess that means you can roll from your back to your tummy… although it hasn’t happened again. you do just love to roll to your side and chill there. it’s a pretty comfy position, so i don’t blame you.

your core strength is getting better and better. you love sitting in both your bumbo and your exersaucer. i am thinking you will be able to sit up on your own pretty soon. although you really don’t mind laying on your back, so who knows when you will decide to start sitting up. i need to bust out the door jumper, because i know that will be a hit. you are always kicking your legs and waving your arms. such a wiggle worm. i love it.

so, you took your first vacation! it was just a mini getaway to denver. you were a perfect angel on the flight. one flight attendant actually said she thought i was carrying a doll, and not an actual human. you are just that perfectly cute. you didn’t cry one bit. you slept and nursed and smiled at everyone around you. you are so charming. in denver, we went to the children’s museum and also stayed with some friends and went to dinner and to breakfast the next morning. we went to mylisa and kyle’s wedding reception and you charmed the pants off everyone there.. you really are just so cute and fun. i am glad you were a great traveler, since we will be going to see your cousins in cali soon!

well, stella bella boo, i just love you to bits. you make life so great, and you make our family oh, so happy. while it’s hard to see you get so big, so fast.. it’s also just so fun to watch you change. you are the best little lady around. thank you for being the sweetest!

love, your momma
