dear stella,

you are three months old! I told your dad that that’s a quarter of a year, which is halfway to six months, so you’ll basically be one tomorrow. time goes way too fast. and you are growing WAY, WAY too fast, my girl.

I am not quite sure how much you weigh these days, I just know that you are feeling much bigger and heavier in my arms. your cute, chubby cheeks are filling out more each day. you have the best round belly that we love to gobble right up. much to my dismay, we are having to retire your cute clothes left and right. you are growing out of them faster than you can even wear them! you are definitely getting much taller, since the legs of your jammies are always getting tighter and tighter. we even have you wearing your brother’s old SIX MONTH jams, and they are tight in the legs! I wonder how long it will be before you are taller than me. it will happen in the blink of an eye, I’m sure.

you are still the chillest, happiest baby around. you rarely cry, and when you do, there’s always a good reason for it. for the most part you are calm, cool, and collected. you have started to smile all the time. and recently you have started giggling, it’s so dang cute. you are babbling so much, I wonder what you are trying to tell us! your personality is shining through, and it makes my heart burst.

you are a great night time sleeper. I keep wondering if that will change, but for now, it’s awesome. you go right to sleep around 6 or 7 o’clock, and will only wake once in the night to nurse. you have started waking up a little earlier in the mornings.. probably because you’ve gotten used to getting up to go to work. so your wake up time is right around 7 AM most days. you are still sleeping in our bed, smack dab in the middle, in your dockatot. you love it.

naps are hit and miss. when you are home with your dad, you will have a cat nap in the morning, followed by a super long nap later on… sometimes it lasts four hours! but at work, you have a harder time napping. that makes sense, since there is no consistency and lots of people coming in and out of my office. but you will usually take a few short naps while I work. you nap in the rock n play and you like to have a cozy blanket up by your face. fox was the exact same. I guess cozy blankets are where it’s at!

no matter where or when you are sleeping, you do best when swaddled in a blanket or a sleep sack. you also have to have some music or noise playing. your favorite is “become ocean” by the seattle symphony orchestra.. something your dad found for you. it’s a 43 minute tune that we just play on loop. it’s actually quite peaceful, so I can see why you like to sleep with it playing.

you aren’t super interested in your binky. you will suck on it for a few minutes, but then usually spit it out. that’s nice for night time, since we don’t have to be on “binky patrol”. but you have discovered your cute, little hands and you LOVE to suck on your fist. you suck on it super vigorously, it’s adorable. you have also started to grasp things like toys, or anybody’s fingers that you can get your hands on. you’ve also started pulling on my hair. it’s fun to see you develop your coordination.

you are definitely spitting up less and less as time goes on. you do spit up quite a bit each day, but not like you used to. that’s a good sign that your insides are maturing and you are getting more and more used to being on the outside than inside my belly. in fact, you have made it through what they call the fourth trimester, which means you aren’t my newborn little baby anymore. you are moving around more and want to wiggle lots. you like to look to your left, and we are trying to get you to look right as often as possible, so you strengthen all those muscles in your neck.

you don’t love tummy time, but you will tolerate it for a bit. you are getting better at holding your head up during tummy time, but you much prefer laying tummy to tummy on me rather than on your tummy on the floor. in fact, you really just like to be held. I don’t mind. you are a super sweet cuddle bug, and are always happiest in someone’s arms. you also enjoy your bouncer and your swing. but if we leave you in either for too long, you make sure to tell us that it’s time to be held again.

you are nursing really well, for longer periods of time than before. that must mean your stomach is getting bigger, and can hold more at once. it seems like you want to eat more often when home with your dad, though, probably because drinking from bottles is such a breeze. the nice thing about that is you haven’t gone on a nursing strike, which can happen when going from bottle to breast. you switch back and forth seamlessly, and are just happy to eat however that may be.

you still really love bath time. you could just lay in the warm water for as long as we let you. it’s cute to see fox help wash you, and he even shares all his bath toys with you. you love fox, and he loves you. it’s super sweet to see you guys cuddle up together, I know you will be life long friends. he always has to give you a kiss every morning and every night, and the first thing he asks for in the morning is to “see baby?”

this past month has been busy and fun, as novembers and decembers usually are.

you started the month off by celebrating your first thanksgiving at nana sue and papa randall’s (aka paw). the next day, the christmas festivities started in full force. we went downtown to see the lights and big christmas tree at the galivan center. you slept right through picking out a christmas tree. but once it was up and fully lit, you were delighted! you love to stare at that thing all day long. it’s fun to see the lights twinkle in your big, brown eyes.

you have seen santa not one, not two, but three times. you snuggled up to the big guy each and every time, which is not a surprise since you just love to get cozy in someone’s arms. you also went to the dickens festival and to the ornament store, where we got your very first ornament- a little baby rudolph. christmas is this week, and it will be fun to celebrate together.

stella bella boo, I love you so dang much. I know how quickly babies grow, and while it’s so fun to see you learn and change.. I am secretly wishing you would just stay little, forever. I know it is only a matter of time before you’re too big for me to hold in one arm.. so I am doing it as much as I can before that happens. thank you for being such a dream baby, we are all so smitten with your sweet little self.

love, love, love you!

love, your momma
