hey! thought i would pop in and, you know, BLOG.
happy july 1st! is june legit over? i can’t believe it. that month zoomed by. which, for a pregnant gal, is great. i am basking in the beauty of the second trimester… which actually is over soon. or, wait, i dunno.. maybe it’s already over? i just looked and i am 27 weeks as of wednesday. i keep losing track. i think that technically puts me in the third trimester, right? or maybe not until next week? who knows. all i know is i am going to start feeling real, real, real pregnant soon. and since it’s been in the 90s here in utah, that’s really going to suck. good times.
here is a pregnant picture of me because i feel like i should document this a little bit? haha. i compared this photo to my last pregnancy at this time, and i’m about the same size belly-wise.
so, aside from growing a tiny human, i haven’t really been up to a whole lot. like i said, it’s been super hot, so we have been playing outside a lot. fox discovered a new love for the splash pad, and he is basically obsessed with anything that involves water, so we have been keeping cool with water fun lately. splash pads, pools, sprinklers, hoses.. whatever.
sooo.. anyway. i decided i should probably do something with myself in terms of exercise, so about a month ago i bought the 21 day fix. i know it is a diet and exercise program, but i can’t be bothered with a diet. i’m pregnant, for crying out loud. but i did like the idea of at home DVDs that require minimal equipment and only take a half hour.
i have been doing them pretty consistently for the month of june, and i have to say i really enjoy the workouts. they are easily modifiable for my pregnant self, and they are quick enough for me to do with fox hanging out and he doesn’t get too incredibly antsy while i am working out. i hand over my phone near the end of them (if marshall isn’t around) to keep him occupied, so if you are one of the lucky facetime recipients of his, i apologize. haha.
i actually didn’t sign up for beachbody and am not drinking their shakes or anything like that. i bought the dvds from amazon because i didn’t want to mess with dealing with a “coach” and have anyone pressure me to sign up to be a coach and all that jazz. since i am already involved with advocare, i know what goes into the MLM stuff and i don’t want to join another one. ha. plus shipping was faster with amazon (i love prime! i swear i order something every other day.) so it seemed easier and quicker to just buy the 21 day fix from there.
so anyway, i will keep on keeping on with these workouts. i know they are supposed to get easier as you go, but with my pregnant belly, they are actually getting harder! haha. but i do feel more energized when i actually get up and get the workout done, and it’s manageable for my lifestyle, so that’s good. if i miss a day, i just pick up where i left off. i would say i average 5 workouts a week right now.. which is pretty fantastic, considering i have taken a couple years off consistent exercise. oops!
i wouldn’t recommend the workouts for anyone that is already super fit. they are very basic and challenging for me (aka someone who is out of shape) but if you are real fit and looking for something challenging.. maybe go with something else.
on the food front, i haven’t cooked much. truth be told, marshall does most of the cooking in our house. he’s a keeper. i have been craving tomato-based italian dishes this pregnancy (last time it was all about the mexican food) so we have lots of italian each week. there is always a day we order pizza, and marshall makes a killer mushroom bolognese sauce, so we always have that as well.
i have found a quick and lazy way to get my marinara fix through the frozen section at trader joe’s:
i pair a rotini with 4 of the turkey meatballs and call it lunch. it’s not pretty, but it’s tasty and satisfying!
i have been eating lots of hard boiled eggs, too. mainly because they are quick and convenient, and sold in handy two-packs in bulk at costco!
i eat a pack every morning. this week i got a super special delivery from a dear reader, so i’ve been pairing my eggs with this tasty danish kringle!
have you heard of these? it came from the danish bakery in racine, wisconsin. it’s a raspberry kringle and it is soooo dang good.
i have been enjoying a slice the past couple mornings along with my much-needed daily iced coffee.
in other food news, i got a fun delivery from general mills with some new-to-me cereals.
i haven’t tried the oat bites nor the strawberry cheerios yet, but i am IN LOVE WITH the tiny toasts! seriously, might be a new favorite for me.
you have to run to the store and get a box or two. trust me, you will be so happy.
let’s see, what else? oh, i had book club this week! it’s the first time that i actually didn’t finish the book. we were reading “me talk pretty one day” and i just could. not. get. into. it. so i gave up. some people liked it, others not so much, but most didn’t read/finish this one. it was interesting to hear what everyone else had to say about the book, and we always manage to have a great discussion whether everyone read the book or not!
plus.. the food. the food at book club is always top notch. this was the savory portion, which i had to go back for seconds on.. and then went back for the sweet portion. yum.
next month we are reading “is everyone hanging out without me?” by mindy kaling, which i have heard great things about, so i am looking forward to reading it! she’s super funny, so i am sure i’ll dig it.
well, nothing more comes to mind to ramble about, so i will call it quits on this post! i will leave you with some random snapshots from june, it was a fun month full of festivities and i am sad to see it go.. it’s one of my faves, for sure!
