hello! happy march 7th to you.
i couldn’t let this day go by without popping in to celebrate my favorite national food holiday…
national cereal day!
you all know i am a cereal monster… as is marshall… so it is no surprise that we created a mini cereal monster of our own.
the boy loves cereal. can’t say i blame him.
while we ate it by the handful and bowlful today, i also whipped up a super simple recipe for peanut butter cheerio treats to celebrate the day.
not only are these easy as delivery pizza pie to make (because the saying “easy as pie” is misleading and pie is not easy.. have you tried making one of those bad boys from scratch? not very quick or simple… especially not compared to these easy breezy treats).. they are quick! five minutes to make, five minutes to set, and maybe five seconds to eat.
here’s the recipe!
no bake peanut butter cheerio treats
takes 10 minutes, makes 12 servings
- 5 cups of cheerios
- 3 TB butter
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 bag (6 cups) mini marshmallows
- melt butter in a large, deep saucepan over medium heat.
- add peanut butter, melt and stir to combine.
- add marshmallows, stir constantly until melted and combined.
- remove from heat and stir in cheerios.
- use a greased rubber spatula to scoop the mixture either into a 13×9 (greased) pan or a 12-serving (greased) muffin tin.
- let set for 5 minutes in the fridge, then enjoy! store extras in an airtight container or bag.
step by step photo directions
melt butter in a large, deep saucepan over medium heat. if you don’t have a big enough saucepan, you can use a smaller one, but will need a large bowl to mix everything in. either way!
add peanut butter, melt and stir to combine.
add marshmallows, stir constantly until melted and combined. don’t let it scorch!
remove from heat and stir in cheerios.
use a greased rubber spatula to scoop the mixture either into a 13×9 (greased) pan or a 12-serving (greased) muffin tin. i like the muffin tin because it makes the treats easy to pop out in individual portions. no cutting required!
let set for 5 minutes in the fridge, then pop out and enjoy!
store extras in an airtight container or bag.
these are super handy snacks to have around, and extremely holdable for those little hands.
tip: don’t let your kid get ahold of the cheerio box while you are making these. he will dump the remainder out.
BUT.. if you have dogs.. this is OK and an easy fix.
happy national cereal day! i hope you celebrated in your own special way.
oh, and also happy NINE years since i busted my humerus snowboarding. my, how time flies.
