easter 2015.

in family time

hey! promise, promise i am going to try to blog more in april. pinky promise. i need my pinkies.. so i better keep that promise!

i’m super excited to share this year’s easter festivities with you. i think i said this around christmas time.. but holidays are SO MUCH more fun with a kid! i mean, not that i didn’t love making an easter basket for marshall.. but making one for fox was just way better.

i put together his easter basket saturday night after he went to bed. i mean, we wouldn’t want him walking into the kitchen to catch me putting it together, right??

he has so, so many toys right now, so i stuck to other items that he actually needed for his basket. i filled it with an easter outfit, teething tablets, sunscreen, sunglasses, fruity oatmeal, a few puree pouches, an easter book, his first sippy cup, some rice husks, a suction cup bowl, and some peeps! he doesn’t get to eat the peeps.. but marshall couldn’t resist sticking them in there. :)

saturday night i also made the infamous carrot cake. except.. disaster struck! i used some different cake pans and i think they were a little bit smaller than my others, because the cake overflowed while it was baking! oops. our whole house smells like burnt cake. and since i lost about 1/3 of the cake during the process.. i decided i should whip up another cake so we would have enough on sunday. so sunday morning i went back to the store to get some ingredients and whipped up another cake. that left me with a whole lot of carrot cake…

better too much than not enough, i always say!

sunday morning we gave fox his easter basket.. he was pretty excited about the whole thing.

he loved looking at everything (and putting everything in his mouth!)

we took a stroll in the afternoon. the weather was super nice! the dogs were grateful, i am sure, because they really needed to get out of the house. sadly, they don’t get to do as much now that we have a human kiddo.

we headed up to my parents’ place around 4 to get the party started. first things first.. i had to frost that cake! i made it extra tall since i had so much extra. i actually think this year’s ended up the best yet!

i have been making the same cake for six easters in a row now.. here are the pictures to prove it!

before the rest of the gang arrived, marshall, fox and i had a little photo op. we don’t really have many photos of all three of us.. need to make that happen more often!

the rest of our family arrived and we hung out and checked out the easter baskets while momma b finished up making dinner. fox sure was spoiled—two easter baskets for him!

marshall thinks the easter bunny and baskets are pretty ridiculous. he’s like.. so.. we tell fox there is a giant bunny that brings eggs.. hides them.. and leaves a basket full of stuff on easter morning? YES. that’s exactly what we tell him. it’s fine. haha.

we dug into dinner and it was delicious as always. easter dinner in our house always has the same menu: ham, funeral potatoes, asparagus, rolls, salad, and deviled eggs.

the deviled eggs were pretty creative this year, thanks to my sister! she made four kinds: traditional, with pickle relish, with avocado, and with sriracha. i had to try all four. the sriracha ones were my favorite! so flavorful, but not too spicy.

after dinner we had our traditional egg hunt.

we helped fox man find his eggs.

the evening ended with everyone devouring the carrot cake.. the perfect ending to a fun filled, traditional easter sunday.

we didn’t know what to do with ourselves last night now that the walking dead is over! sad. i guess we better find a new show. or i could start going to bed earlier.. which is probably what i should do. fox goes to sleep at 7 pm and i am thinking i should join him. he wakes up a couple times in the night and then is up for the day suuuper early.. like sometimes as early as 5:30 am.. which is why i am thinking it should be lights out for me at 7! haha.

anyway.. that’s my easter in review. i hope yours was great if you celebrated. and if you didn’t, i hope your weekend was fantastic regardless.

like i said.. more blogging is going to happen this month! so i will see ya again soon.

You definitely turned that cake fail into a success!! Looks delish! The Easter bunny might be a silly tradition, but I love it! Little man looks like hes a big fan too!! <3 <3 Favorite cake? Hmm not much for cake…either key lime pie or fruit crisp!

Your little man is too cute! I was ridiculously excited to put together an Easter basket for my six month old. I also hid the stuff I bought in the closet and put it together while he was asleep. Because that was necessary. We decided french toast and bacon would be an Easter tradition. And dying eggs. I am imagining it gets more fun, as this year my child couldn’t care less. Rude. When I was little, my siblings and I each got assigned rooms to find candy, and I plan to carry that on with my son!

hahaha yes, I am so glad you hid the stuff in the closet.

Sounds like the perfect Easter weekend. Fox is getting so big now! He’s so cute with his baskets.

Well, when Marshall puts it that way, it does sound weird but if that’s the case, Santa is the exact same. Either way, it makes for some good leverage to get the kiddos to listen and behave better for a few weeks a year ;)

Yep! And it’s fun to pretend haha

I can’t believe how big Fox is getting! He looks like a grown man in these pictures!! Seems like you all had a great Easter though!

Fox is too cute! Of course when my brother and I were younger we would always have Easter baskets and egg hunts, but we haven’t done that in the last couple of years. We usually have some sort of big meal as a family; this year it was homemade brunch. My dad and I made Blueberry French Toast Bake and it was probably the best batch we’ve ever made.

Yum! That sounds so good.

At first I thought Fox looked exactly like your husband but as he gets older, he is looking more and more like you. Cutie!

Janetha April 9, 2015 at 11:17 am

It’s so funny to hear what other people see! I kinda think he doesn’t look like either of us, but he looks a lot like my nephew!

Your baby has the SWEETEST little face! The picture with his hands under his chin…AHH my ovaries! So precious.

Janetha April 9, 2015 at 11:17 am

Aww thank you!
