twosie tuesday.

in product review,random rambles

hey guys!

wow, after such a heavy post and discussion in yesterday’s post, i kind of feel like posting something light. and listy.

time for twelve lists of twos! because i love lists and alliteration. plus, it’s TWO thousand TWELVE. i am ridiculously lame.

two new (food) products i’ve tried lately.

1. peanut honey pretzel luna bar

i didn’t hate this. i also didn’t love it as much as i expected i would. i flip for pretzel+peanut butter combos. peanut butter filled pretzels from trader joe’s, anyone? however, i think the honey was the downfall. it made the bar a little bit too sweet and not enough salty. however, i wouldn’t not eat it again. it was definitely not bad. however, nuts & cranberry, toasted coconut, and peppermint chocolate remain my top 3 favorite luna bar flavors.

2. apple cinnamon chobani

okay. we have a situation. i think i have a new favorite flavor of chobani and i also think i am going to eat this way more than i should. i admit, i try to stay away from flavored yogurts (i usually eat plain) due to the sugar content (even though it mainly comes from fruit–i would rather eat a piece of fruit.)

but this yogurt is AWESOME. the apples taste exactly like apple pie filling. the amount of cinnamon is perfect. i am in yogurt love. i have tried the other new flavors of chobani (blood orange, passion fruit, and vanilla chocolate) and they’re all super good.. but they don’t compare to the apple cinnamon.

two blogs i recently added to my reader.

1. inspired RD

2. my life as a mrs.

i am kind of embarrassed that these ladies WEREN’T in my reader previously. i follow them both on instagram and love their photos, obviously i would love their blogs.. too! check them both out, they have fabulous recipes and photography.

two beverages i drank today that weren’t water or coffee.

1. apple cider vinegar + lemon (dissolved in water)

ugh. i have been drinking raw apple cider vinegar for digestion, and i keep a bottle at work. i bought another bottle to keep at home, and when i went to take a photo of it.. it shattered ALL over the floor. $6 bottle. not before i made my evening ACV+lemon cocktail, though. i only recently started this and am hoping it helps with my gut issues. i will letcha know.

2. fitmixer BCAA (also dissolved in water)

i get this BCAA at costco. it’s $15 for a container. marshall and i both love it and drink it during our workouts.

two reasons this week is exciting.

1. it’s my best friend’s birthday tomorrow! yay for kristen.

2. we are going to the jazz game on saturday! kristen & rory got us tickets as a christmas gift.

two body parts that are sore.

1. the part of my back right between my shoulder blades.. that area NEVER gets sore!

2. my triceps. ohhh, my triceps.

i am super sore because i have made an effort to lift much heavier weights this week. i have upped my weights by at least 5 lbs on most of the exercises i do. i am focusing on four sets of eight reps this week, so lifting heavier is totally doable and i am glad i toughened up and picked up the heavier weights. muscles are sexy.

two new things at our house.

1. marshall’s acoustic bass.

yep! marshall is a musician now. i had no idea he even wanted one.. then he mentioned that he did, so on saturday, he bought one! he’s fvery into music, so it makes a lot of sense that he wanted a bass. it was either that or the drums. it’s fun to listen to him mess around with the bass and teach himself to play. he is much more talented than i will ever be.

2. my light box.

i haven’t even taken the box out of the box yet, as you can see, but i just purchased this light box and can’t wait to set it up and start taking photos. i do 90% of my cooking and baking when it’s already dark (damn that pesky day job) so my photos are always less than stellar. hoping this light box helps the situation!

two people i talk to every single day.

1. marshall

2. my mom

two tasty things i’ve made lately.

1. dinner tonight was mel’s easy chicken cordon bleu.

it was so easy. and delicious. and i followed the recipe to a T. marshall is still raving about it.

he said things like, “this is the definition of comfort food!” and “i can’t wait to put this sauce on my eggs tomorrow!” and “make sure you keep this sauce recipe, for sure.” yes, it’s good. probably the butter, cheese, and more cheese.

2. chocolate banana protein shakes save my life lately.

to make this healthy dessert, i simply blend a frozen banana, 1 scoop of vanilla whey protein, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1 T dark cocoa powder, and a couple ice cubes. it really tastes like ice cream. i have been topping this shake with whole food’s generic brand of no sugar/nonfat whipped cream. it’s flipping delicious. and no crazy chemicals.

two new supplements i’ve added to my day.

1. cinsulin (the water extract of cinnamon)

2. alpha lipoic acid

these two supplements were recommended for phase 3 of jamie eason’s livefit trainer that i am following. they are both said to help metabolism and glucose levels. they were both very inexpensive, so i figured it doesn’t hurt. people always ask me what supplements i take, so if i add new ones to my routine.. i like to mention it. i am not a registered anything, so if you want to know more about the supplements.. click on the links that will lead you to the product websites.

two things i am dreading.

1. doing our taxes

2. folding my laundry. yes, it’s that serious. i dread it.

on the flip side, two things i am looking forward to.

1. mexico! less than three weeks to go. it’s my company’s annual bonding trip. we are going to manzanillo.

2. BLEND retreat. all sponsors are in place, things are coming together, and tickets will be on sale soon!

two photos i can’t stop staring at.

1. basset hound airlines preparing for takeoff

image

2. crazy eyes mcgee

image

hahahah.. they are both on my phone wallpaper and i laugh every single time.

by the way, i know people will ask, i made those photos on my iphone using the camera+ app. love how it makes things look like a painting!

well, i am outta here. more tomorrow!

side note: i am digging the discussion in the comments section of the debate post. if you haven’t chimed in with your thoughts, please do! i will more than likely do a little follow up on the topic sometime soon. but maybe not. you never know with me.

Q~

gimme a list of two. any list will do. even better, two lists of two!

Wait. VANILLA CHOCOLATE CHOBANI?!

I tried the apple cinnamon, passionfruit, and blood orange. I loved all but the passionfruit, due to the texture reminding me vaguely of snot, but I MUST find vanilla chocolate.

Janetha January 10, 2012 at 10:11 pm

It’s one of the kid ones!

Laura January 10, 2012 at 9:52 pm

Question for you – what kind of research do you do before adding new supplements? I’m always nervous about combining things for fear of interaction or getting too much of something.

2 for Tuesday – Awesome things about today

I have 2 cute dogs snuggled on my lap, even though its only because of the heated snuggie.

NO back pain this morning during my workout!

Janetha January 10, 2012 at 10:11 pm

I do a lot of reading.. both reviews and online forums that have real people talking about things.. and lately I have been asking my GI doctor about certain supplements. I discontinued everything but fish oil, a multivitamin, and a probiotic until all my gut stuff is figured out. However, these two are in the clear. The CinSulin is basically like eating a bunch of cinnamon.

Heated snuggie?! Amazing. And yay for no pain :)

Laura January 10, 2012 at 10:22 pm

Technically it’s a “Coz-e” but no one would have any idea what that is. I hope you get all your gut stuff figured out soon! I used to have horrible GI problems but they have cleared up mostly with getting my anxiety under control.

Stefanie @TheNewHealthy January 10, 2012 at 10:00 pm

I cannot stop staring at those pictures of your pups either. Is it weird that I’m in love with your dogs although I’ve never even met them? Yep, it’s the animal lover in me. And I cannot wait to get my hands on that apple cinnamon Chobani!

Amanda January 10, 2012 at 10:12 pm

Cannot wait to find the new Chobani flavors. I haven’t seen them yet.

Sorry about the apple cider vinegar breakage. I tried the lemon in hot water thing before finding out what my issue was (Celiac) and it was hard for me to drink. Never tried vinegar in it.

I need sore muscles. I took 2 days off lifting due to a dumb headache. Good for you on heavier weights. I am struggling to do bicep curls with 20 lb dumbbells right now.

Checked out that chicken recipe and pinned it. Looks awesome!

Amy Ramos January 10, 2012 at 10:20 pm

I think we are long lost twins. I am in LOVE with the new Chobani apple cinnamon yogurt. I had to limit the amount of them I bought…I want to be nice and share.
Love the pics of the doggies. Too cute.
and thank you for the chicken cordon bleu recipe. That will be a part of our menu planning next week.
Cheers,

Megan January 10, 2012 at 10:26 pm

Two things (randoms, unrelated):

1) I LOVE THAT FLAVOR TOO!! I couldn’t believe it! Mostly, because I’m not a huge fan of apple pie (don’t like hot apples unless its cider).

2) My birthday is this weekend! Saturday to be exact! I’ll be 27.

What do you use to watermark your photos?

Janetha January 10, 2012 at 11:13 pm

Happy early bday! Yahoo! I used windows live writer to watermark those two.. on my work computer. But now, at home, I have a Mac and need to find a way to do it. Probably will use Picnik.. but I am lazy and these photos weren’t worth copyrighting.

meggi January 10, 2012 at 10:43 pm

oh… taxes…. made me cringe.

Love the photos of your pups in the snow! My dog is a snow lover too :)

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga January 10, 2012 at 11:04 pm

Ive been loving finding new blogs via Instagram. Some I only “read” on IG, but some I have popped into my reader, too. It’s been fun.

peanut honey pretzel luna bar…It reminds me of a Balance bar they discontinued years ago, sort of, that had white choc. I really want that bar back and have blogged about my love of it. I think I’d really like this Luna b/c it’s sweeter than savory, but the Balance Honey Peanut still looks better than this one..but there’s another one that was discontinued that I pine for.

Janetha January 10, 2012 at 11:12 pm

I remember you raving about the DC bar! That’s the worst.

meg January 10, 2012 at 11:11 pm

Chobani just sent me a bunch of flavors last month but none of the new ones. Though I’ve yet to try the pomegranate. Glad to hear you liked the apple cinnamon one… sometimes those flavors in yogurt taste a little weird.

I’m making your sweet potato shepherds pie this week!

Sarah January 10, 2012 at 11:29 pm

Is the apple cider combo working? I’ve been thinking about taking it for a while as I keep on getting acid reflux but it sounds disgusting. Willing to give it a go if it’s helping?

Hope your digestive problems are improving xxx

lindsay January 11, 2012 at 12:15 am

damn you and instagram. I’ve officially jealous. I’ve got an old school nokie here in New Zealand. Ya, its like so old I don’t know how to use it. hehe.
ENjoy the twosomes…. well, you know.
;)

Erica January 11, 2012 at 2:41 am

I love the apple cinnamon tooo! J thought it was meh. Whateves-more for me :). I am totally buying that light box. So awesome that mexico is so close. Two brands i love-1. Ryka for sneakers, 2.gap. I used to think gap had gotten bad, but now i am loving their shirts and workout clothes

lindsey January 11, 2012 at 3:37 am

apple cin chobani?! ugh i wish there was chobani here in australia!!

Lauren January 11, 2012 at 4:53 am

Okay, that’s it…I am on a serious mission today to find this Chobani! You’ve sold me girl.

Hope @ With A Side Of Hope January 11, 2012 at 5:23 am

I love that apple cinnamon Chobani! It’s definitely their best flavor for sure :)

Betty January 11, 2012 at 5:41 am

Two things I want to make this week: mama pea’s z bars because they are very balanced! And applesauce cookies I found off pinterest on my free day!

Two things I’m dreading this week .. Pure cardio and studying on my four day weekend :(

I think I need a good recovery drink.. Would that mix work?? Thanks for the offer off sending max cardio.. We found someone around here, but I truly appreciate your offer!

janetha January 11, 2012 at 9:30 am

It has some energy stuff in it (not as strong as noxplode or anything) so it is ideal for pre-during-post workout.. but it does aid in recovery.. so maybe it would be good? i used to use EAS muscle armor as a recovery drink and loved it. But now I am too cheap to re-up haha

Heather January 11, 2012 at 5:51 am

i hope the follow up includes at least one photo of you crawling into the lightbox to eat dinner ;)

Heather (Heather's Dish) January 11, 2012 at 6:04 am

ok, i’m glad you like the apple cinnamon…i was kind of waiting for a review before buying it because flavored yogurts can be so hit or miss. going to get some today!

Lindsay @ Chobani January 11, 2012 at 6:06 am

Hooray, isn’t Apple Cinnamon delish?! Out of all three new flavors, it’s definitely risen towards the top. Glad to have found you a new fave– and lookout for an email hitting your inbox this week for a special treat :)

SweatyGirl January 11, 2012 at 6:25 am

I can’t wait until we get the new Chobani flavors out here in the boonies!
Blood orange would be my jam, yo! I just know it!

Madeline - Greens and Jeans January 11, 2012 at 6:30 am

My dad SWEARS by apple cider vinegar. He’s been drinking it for years now and credits it to pretty much everything good that happens to him.

PBJenny January 11, 2012 at 6:53 am

those pictures are ridiculous. In a “oh my god, that just made my day” kind of way.

jena January 11, 2012 at 7:31 am

Two work related things:
1. I need to quit reading blogs & to do some work
2. I really need to study for my medical coding certification test. 2012 is the year to get that done.

I’m a teensy bit jealous of the cute pics of your pups playing in the snow. My dogs will never know what thats like. wah

Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning January 11, 2012 at 7:31 am

I love your list of 2’s and could make a comment about every single one (but I won’t). I’ll just stick to a few!
1. I’m not crazy about Luna bars, but will still have to try that one. And I’ve never had any flavored Chobani. Flavored yogurts always taste too sweet to me, but I guess I could mix it with plain yogurt to cut that…
2. My husband would love that Chicken Cordon Bleu, I will have to try it out. And I just got into dessert smoothies (why didn’t I make them for dessert before?!). I love the Vega chocolate protein powder with 1/2 a banana and a little peanut flour blended with water and ice. Holy cow.
3. YAY for the Blend retreat! I am so stoked- and flights out of Baltimore are $148 nonstop!

My two things that I’m looking forward to this month:
1. Going to Florida this weekend
2. Celebrating 6 months of married bliss ;)

Marcy January 11, 2012 at 7:54 am

I love Canada and hate to diss it, but man…we need to jump on the Chiobani train.

Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile January 11, 2012 at 9:04 am

I want to try that chobani!! Yumm :D

Sami January 11, 2012 at 9:08 am

i’ve seen this chobani flavor on other blogs, too and i can’t wait until i find it in a grocery store! i loveeeeeee apple. I think it’d be the perfect topping for “healthified churros” or something like that…

so you’re married to a musician now? ;) that’s hot! haha.

i loveeeeee the pup pictures! reminds me of underdog (: they should be on comic book covers!

1- i’m pretty sure it’s going to be engagement month. :D
2- 2nd half of my sophomore college basketball season (back to back champs?!)

xo.

janetha January 11, 2012 at 9:34 am

Squeeeeal!

April January 11, 2012 at 9:30 am

I would love to know how you like that lightbox once you’ve tried it out. I like that it’s inexpensive and that it (appears to?) fold up for easy storage! I hope you mention it again in a future post so I don’t forget about it (since I’m on my work computer and can’t favorite it, boo).

janetha January 11, 2012 at 9:36 am

I will for sure!

Jessica @ Stylish Stealthy and Healthy January 11, 2012 at 9:42 am

I need that yogurt to show up at my grocery store STAT.
YOU HEAR ME, CHOBANI??

Kristin @ STUFT Mama January 11, 2012 at 9:51 am

I need to try both those Luna bars and that new Chobani flavor. Ahhh….
Hmmm… two…..
I have two minutes to get my butt into my boys’ room before I may have to wash all their sheets due to diaper overspill. Be glad you don’t have that laundry. ha ha!

Stephanie @cookinfanatic January 11, 2012 at 10:29 am

I am so pumped to get my hands on the apple cinnamon Cho!!! I just had a feeling it would be a hit once I heard about it, yummmmmmmm. I haven’t had chicken cordon bleu in forever, that parm dijon sauce sounds legit!

Paige @ RAN January 11, 2012 at 10:47 am

toasted coconut luna bar rocks my world! Best tasting bar out there…almost like a candy bar!

momma b. January 11, 2012 at 10:54 am

I love this post – I usually do!
I love the pups photos – they are too cute
I love the recipe (just printed it!)
I love the twosies – I do believe that’s a new word!
I love the comment about you getting into your light box :)
I love that Marshall got a guitar – who knew?
I love you too!!!

Stevi January 11, 2012 at 11:09 am

Hello,
My name is Stevi and I’ve been a reader of yours for about 6 or 7 months now, I love your style and your recipes! I noticed that you have some super amazing pictures from the Camera+ app, I’m a photographer and I did a recent blog post about how to layer those effects in camera plus and make them even more outrageous! I thought I’d share since it’s something I love to do!

Happy Editing! :)

sarah @ sarah learns January 11, 2012 at 11:32 am

i haven’t found any of the new chobani flavors yet. sad sad sad. i really want to try the orange one!

Steph January 11, 2012 at 11:32 am

HA! I totally made the same exact dinner using Mel’s recipe too! I think I saw it on Pinterest. Good choice!

Janetha January 11, 2012 at 11:35 am

I saw it on Pinterest too! But it was pinned to a different girl’s blog, and she had posted Mel’s whole recipe on her site. Pretty lame, since the majority of the pins of the recipe were not for Mel’s site. Sigh.

But hell yes, that recipe is delicious!!

Roz@weightingfor50 January 11, 2012 at 12:15 pm

OMG…the dog pictures are FANTASTIC!!!!
Here are my two:
Two things (of many I suspect)Janetha and I have in common. We BOTH hate folding the laundry and our husbands BOTH play bass. (my husband has 4, 3 electric one acoustic…he does play in a band for fun, so they all get used)
Have a good Wed.

steph January 11, 2012 at 12:21 pm

I used apple cider vinegar all the time for heartburn – works like a champ. Also (not sure if you’ve heard about it) but check out The Eatery App for your iphone!

Love the puppies, too funny!

April B January 11, 2012 at 12:36 pm

Those new Chobani flavors sound great! I’ll have to give them a try.

Two things I’m excited about this weekend:
Painting the cabinets in my laundry room (lame I know – but it’s going to look so good)
Coaching my new group in our running club – it’s our first group meeting!

Annette@EnjoyYourHealthyLife January 11, 2012 at 12:51 pm

WHOA?! New Chobani flavors?!! ROCK on.

Two people I talk to daily:
my husband
Myself (yes, I am a nerd)

Two things I am looking forward to this weekend:
I am doing the re-launch event at the gym–presenting BodyPUMP 80, baby!!
I get to sleep in on Sunday. Score!

Alexa @ Simple Eats January 11, 2012 at 1:02 pm

Now I’m really going to have to try that yogurt. It sounded a little odd to me at first, but you had me at apple pie filling!
Two things I’m loving lately:
Tea with honey
White chocolate chips…so bad but so good

Kristi @ Sweetly Fit January 11, 2012 at 1:52 pm

ahh, you think you’ll have room for me in your suitcase for Mexico? If I scrunch up in a tiny ball, i bet it would be totally doable. BEACH!!!!

Sarah @ The Healthy Diva January 11, 2012 at 2:00 pm

We just got chobani here in australia and my family pretty much did a victory dance when we saw it on the shelves!!! Ok on to my lists:
Two supplements I started taking:
1) Liquid fish oil – It’s a pleasant orange flavour and the FIRST one I’ve tried that hasn’t caused me reflux. Score!
2) Digestive enzyme – I was looking for a way to improve my guts and digestion and this has been a HUGE help!!! I feel like my body is finally absorbing the nutrients it needs
Two new breakfasts I’ve eaten this week:
1) Scrambled eggs with chives – 2 whole eggs + 2 egg whites scrambled with chives. Gives a nice oniony kind of flavour!
2) Chicken & blueberries – ummm you ate chicken for breakfast?!?! Actually this was waaay better than i expected. Trying to get out of the oatmeal rut and up the protein.

Tiffany @ Snack Snark Bark January 11, 2012 at 3:37 pm

Is it creepy that I want that pic of Penny as my wallpaper? Probably but I don’t care, it just brought a huge smile to my face, which is needed. Why?

2 bad things that happened today
1) My contact tore about leaving me to drive with one eye closed in the snow
2) They did lay offs at work. I’m not one of them but still, it sucks seeing people laid off.

Wow, hello emo!!

2 good things I ate today

1) Coconut cream pudding
2) Butternut squash raviolo

Tina @ mylifeasamrs January 11, 2012 at 4:07 pm

thanks SO much for the shout-out… you are too sweet!! added you to my reader recently too ;)

Christin@purplebirdblog January 11, 2012 at 4:50 pm

I’ve only found the apple cinnamon out of all the new flavors of Chobani, and I effing LOVE it. I am dying to try the blood orange and the passion fruit, and this is the first I’ve heard of the chocolate… gotta find that too!

Totally might scoop up that light box as well… considering I’ve been meaning to make one oh FOREVER and laziness always prevails.

Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats January 11, 2012 at 6:18 pm

My fix for the apple cinnamon chobani with less sugar is to top plain chobani with 1/2 an apple microwaved with cinnamon and stevia. I know you hate stevia but just thought I’d share! :) Everyone is posting new BCAA’s today and I’m loving it! The one I am currently using is clumpy when it mixes so I am on the hunt for a new one! lol.

Susan January 11, 2012 at 8:38 pm

1. Have you tried the Clif Mojo Peanut Butter Pretzel flavour? Similar stats as Luna I think and SO GOOD. Like, my favourite bar ever.

2. I love Marshall’s acoustic bass! I used to play bass in a band in university. Now I’m playing guitar again. Let me know if Marshall is interested in playing in my new punk rock band called Bebop and the Rocksteadys.

Sarah January 12, 2012 at 6:53 am

Ohhh chobani never fails when coming up with the BEST flavor combos! So yum!
Banana chocolate protein shakes are the bomb ;) and totallly awesome post wo

Ashley @ Freckles & Spice January 12, 2012 at 11:17 am

I liked the new luna bar! Not my favorite, but I still liked it. The toasted cranberry one is up there for me as well and I just got the choc peppermint for the first time.
I’m super jealous you got the new apple chobani. I’ve been stalking grocery stores even more than usual looking for it. Patience is not something I am good at.

Two things I’m looking forward to this weekend:
1) Dim Sum Date on Sunday with my super busy bf – we live together and I’ve barely seen him

2) My fav healthy splurge – spinning at Flywheel Studio
