let’s get personal.

in questions answered,random rambles

i am busy catching up on life after getting home from philly. SO, i took a cue from my new blog-turned-real-life friend, beth, and copied her 10 personal questions (which she originally got from caitlin) and am posting it for you guys tonight.

enjoy lurking on my life! be back later.

1. What are you really good at? What are you really bad at?

i am really good at writing. i mean, must be, you’re reading this, i’ve got you hooked! no, really, i DEFINITELY enjoy writing! it’s one of my faovirte things to do and i like to think i am not half bad at writing.

i am really bad at sports. like.. really, really, REALLY bad. i WISH i was good at them. i never played sports as a kid. i clogged. did i just announce that? yikes…

2. Have you ever been in a car accident? What happened?

yep! i totaled my jeep cherokee! i was on my way to a job interview when i was 20 years old. my license was suspended at the time (i am an idiot) and it was raining. my wet foot slipped off the brake pedal at a stop sign and i jolted into the intersection, T-boning an old man’s old car—you know, just an old person car—not sure the type, but they sure built old cars well! it totaled my jeep and i got a hefty ticket for driving on a suspended license. yes, i learned my lesson and the public bus system became my BFF.

3. Why did you attend your college?

i went to salt lake community college for 7 years on and off, eventually getting an associates degree. i went there because it was the thing to do for high school graduates with no idea what to do with their lives and no real direction. i do sometimes wish i did the whole university/college life thing, but i think i have ended up in a pretty good place without all that!

4. Describe your morning routine today.

well, since i am pre-writing this, i will tell you about today. another work day.. my morning routine is pretty typical every day i work:

  • wake up late after pressing snooze 3 too many times
  • kiss marshall and penny, get mad at randy for hogging the bed all night, then kiss him too

image

  • roll out of bed, pee, hop in the shower
  • out of the shower, brush my teeth, deodorant and face lotion (this is a very specific routine—the same every time!)
  • put on my makeup
  • blow dry my hair while checking emails on phone
  • get dressed for work
  • make my protein shake, french press coffee and pack my lunch
  • kiss the dogs and marshall goodbye and head out the door!

usually i am late to work. what can ya do?

5. Have you ever snooped through someone else’s things? Did you find anything interesting?

yes. i have. i was one of those girls who would go through her boyfriend’s phone. it only led to drama and i am so glad i trust my husband 110% so i don’t even WANT to go through his things! i think that when girls are young and dumb, they are more likely to not trust their boyfriends and are guilty of this. this was back before facebook was all the rage, but i bet i would have looked through that if i had had the chance. it was a phase, luckily, because not trusting someone and wondering what/who they are texting/looking at is pure torture. if you have ever felt this feeling you know what i mean!

6. What do you think happens when you die?

i think the man in the sky sends you to heaven and everyone gets a mansion. the best mansion you can think of! (i may or may not have watched the invention of lying the other night…)

no, on the real, i am not positive what happens when you die. who is? i know everyone has their opinions, but nobody knows for sure until you actually die. i like to think we go to heaven and hang out with all the people who have died that we miss. and the dogs and cats who have died that we miss. and goldfish, birds and turtles if you were into that as a kid. i wasn’t.

stick image

rip, my old pets mable and blue!

7. Are you superstitious?

no. i will break mirrors, walk under ladders and open umbrellas inside all day every day. i do, however, believe in karma.

8. Do people think you are younger or older than you actually are?

i never, ever look at a person and think, “they must be this old.” that’s just not something i care about. so my answer is neither. also, how is this a personal question? kinda boring, mister survey.

9. How did your parents’ relationship influence you?

for the best. my parents got engaged after one date and have been married 35+ years (sorry, not sure exactly how many years…) they love each other so much and have a great relationship. i know they put up with a lot of quirks one or the other has, and this has taught me to put up with marshall’s quirks.

i am real close with my mom and from our many-a-talks, i have learned a lot about marriage and how to make it work for the long run. and that’s what i am in it for.. the long run.

if it weren’t for my parents, i would be dead or in prison. their strong bond has helped me SO much in life.

image

10. What were the three happiest moments of your life?

  1. when my mom’s normalcy came back after her stroke. SUCH a relief and i never want that to happen again!!!
  2. my first date with marshall. i could be cliché and say our wedding date, that was SO happy, but really.. our first date when we didn’t dare hold hands was pretty awesome.
  3. when my mom and i finished the body for life challenge and took our photos together, reflecting on our incredible journey.

hug

the end! now you know more about me than you really need to—but that’s what blogging is all about, right? of course, right.

Qs~

1. what do you think happens when you die?

2. what are you really good at? really bad at?

Lindsey @ Cardio Pizza August 22, 2011 at 5:32 pm

I hope you had a blast in Philly with everyone!! How fun! And nice job on presenting (even though I didn’t see it) I’m sure you ROCKED!! :)

I think we go to Heaven (if we choose to) when we die…I just feel it in my heart and soul. I don’t need the proof :)

I’m also horrible at sports! Ugh! I’m good at teaching Group Fitness classes though!

Heather (Where's the Beach) August 22, 2011 at 6:07 pm

Loved reading this and love that pic of you and your mom. She’s just so cute!

Erica August 22, 2011 at 6:17 pm

SO funny! I am the same way- I love to workout and I teach group fitness (yayyy Lindsey!)..but I am horrible at most sports. People are always surprised by this (except when they find out I’m bad a basketball haha). And my accident was also in my Jeep! Love that picture of your Mom & you

katecooks August 22, 2011 at 6:18 pm

i love that two of your favorite moments revolve around your mom…it always makes me happy to read about the two of you! also…she got her lacquer, right??

Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) August 22, 2011 at 6:31 pm

I love people’s thoughts on what happens when you die. I find it incredibly interesting. I like to think that we go somewhere colorful and magical. Have you seen “What Dreams May Come”? That view of heaven is what I have. Kind of a mix of all your favorite places.

I feel like I’m really good at baking. I know I’m really bad at accounting. Mostly due to procrastination…which I’m really good at.

alex August 22, 2011 at 6:40 pm

This was so much fun!

I don’t know what happens when you die. Maybe everything all goes black, and that’s that. Maybe not. But speculating isn’t going to make any after-death journey more or less real, so I tend to not think about it.

I’m good at staying calm, giving advice and listening. I’m bad at letting other people listen to me.

Shanna, Like Banana August 22, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Holy moly look at the bad@ss abs you and your Mom have in that picture — love it!

I’m really bad at jumping. Yeah random, but I can’t jump more than like 3 inches. My hubby says it’s because I have underdeveloped calves from wearing 4″ heels.

I’m really good at eating. Dare I say I’m an expert? ha!

Kerryne August 22, 2011 at 6:42 pm

I panic just thinking of dying… one of my biggest fears but I am working on that, trying to find that peace within myself I guess :)

I am really good at listening, and REALLY bad at talking. Ha. I love to help people but hate for anyone to really know what I am thinking or feeling, I hide it with humor. Yes I am in therapy!

Caroline August 22, 2011 at 6:46 pm

Oh my gosh! One date? Must have been a good one.. they really are inspiring!

Susan August 22, 2011 at 7:08 pm

1. Harry Potter taught me it’s easier than falling asleep, but other than that, who knows?

2. I’m really good at talking to people, motivating myself and others, smiling, organizing, and puzzles. I’m really bad at asking for help, not being too hard on myself, and anything technology-related.

Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well. August 22, 2011 at 7:38 pm

I’m just like you- I have a routine in the morning that I need to follow, but am ALWAYS late to work!!! Luckily, it’s okay for me to get there a little after 8am, but I just wish I could be on time for once :)

Elisabeth August 22, 2011 at 7:41 pm

That was fun to read, and I love the last picture of you and your mom. So cute!

I have no idea what happens when we die, but at the same time it doesn’t scare me. I believe in an afterlife, but nothing too specific. I will see what happens when it happens I guess.

I am really good at spelling. I can’t explain it very well, but when I hear a word, any word, that I need to spell I can “see” the word all spelled out in my head. It’s weird, but kind of cool too.

I am really bad at math. My daughter asked for help with her homework dividing fractions and I had to Google in order to help her. Pathetic!

coco August 22, 2011 at 7:42 pm

I don’t think about what happens about I die, I focus on enjoying when I’m alive! ;)
I’m good at organizing/research/analysis. I’m bad at errands and details.

Lindsay@ In Sweetness and In Health August 22, 2011 at 8:07 pm

I love these survey things! I’m not really sure what happens when you die. I would like to think that we all “go” someplace great- like heaven, and that even if you aren’t religious, but have been a good person, you can go there.

I like to think I’m good at writing, and what I’m doing in grad school. I’m horrible at creating a recipe- I don’t even know if I can haha

julie August 22, 2011 at 8:09 pm

how cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!! your parents got engaged after ONE DATE!

Sara August 22, 2011 at 8:21 pm

See, I swear by brushing your teeth FIRST, and then showering & therefore washing your face in the shower. That way when I get toothpaste all over my face (it’s a given), I can wash it off! Plus I’m totally strange and HATE morning breath so bad that I’ve even been known to wake up, brush my teeth, then go back to bed. LOL.

Random thing I’m good at: swinging a baseball bat. I played baseball & softball for 14 years, so I’d better be good, but I was even complimented on my swing by some guy last week. My boyfriend asked “was he hitting on you?” and I said “no, my swing is just that nice!” ;)

Sarah@The Flying ONION August 22, 2011 at 8:31 pm

This is such a great post. It’s awesome reading your answers. And what a sweet tribute to your parents! :D

Jess (In My Healthy Opinion) August 22, 2011 at 8:35 pm

I’m SO bad at sports too..it’s embarrassing. I trip over my own feet!

Your parents are so stinkin cute. Mine are the same way, and have been together forever!

So glad I met you this weekend, girl! :)

Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats August 22, 2011 at 8:37 pm

Snooping causes nothing but trouble! lol. I’m glad that I have trust in my relationship as well. I agree with what you think happens with death and I really hope it is true because I would love to see my grandma and old dogs especially again! :)

Meghan August 22, 2011 at 8:54 pm

I hope the old man in the old car was alright

Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga August 22, 2011 at 8:59 pm

When I die, I’ll finally get some sleep. I always say given my 4-5 hrs a night, I’ll sleep when I’m dead. And yep, I will. Then. Not now…too busy!

I’m really good at being persistent and goal-oriented.
I’m really bad at being persistent and goal-oriented.

They are a double edged sword, sometimes good, sometimes bad.

LOVE this post!

Lindsay @ Lindsay's List August 22, 2011 at 9:45 pm

Dude…I love you…I WAS A CLOGGER TOO!! I’ll try to scrounge up some pictures. I was in a little ensemble called the Heelclickers. We were totally awesome. Did you wear like big dresses with layers?? Or does that only happen to cloggers in the South?

Ali Mc August 22, 2011 at 9:52 pm

I think you are always growing and learning on this plane (earth) and in the spiritual realm, so I think when we die we continue to go down whatever our path is…..which is dependent on what you did while you were down here. lol :D I like to think we all come back, but that’s just me :)

PS: who is hosting your site??? I love this layout!!!

Elaine August 22, 2011 at 9:59 pm

that’s so sweet about your parents! my parents were wed because of an arranged marriage – but it worked out for them, so I guess that’s good :)
1. what do you think happens when you die?
I like to think that there is a “heaven” type place and that place is specific to each of us. My “heaven” would be a place similar to yours; where I can meet back up with my grandmother, my 2 pet birds I had when I was 4, and a couple of kitties and we’d just catch up and hang out and be happy. It’d be a place where everyone is restored to their former glory – kind of like a reset button – no health problems, no worries :)
2. what are you really good at? really bad at?
I’m good at learning stuff. I know that’s silly, but I am able to retain random info and useful info, especially about science and medical things. On the flip side, I am no good and useless when it comes to history (like the wars and revolutions and stuff) and numbers. I am not so good with numbers.

Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food August 22, 2011 at 10:13 pm

So fun to learn so much more about you :)

Re what happens when you die, I don’t know either. I wish that something good happens, it hurt my heart (and still does) when I think of my late dad and sister and them actually being completely gone for good…

Lauren @ Recipes for a Quarterlife August 22, 2011 at 11:14 pm

I’m so glad there was a question about your morning routine! I’m such a creeper, I love hearing about people’s most boring moments. You forgot to feed the dogs! :)

Heather Yourex August 23, 2011 at 12:26 am

Good questions – when we die I think we are with God. I think it will be just a warm sense of peace and love, comfort and contentment.

Things I’m bad at… I’m book smart but boy do I lack in the common sense department! I’m constantly losing things and just being a general spaz. I’ve come to accept it

You and your Mom are so cute, your animals too!

Jackie @ That Deep Breath August 23, 2011 at 12:33 am

Your parents were engaged after one date?? That’s awesome!

To be honest I have no clue what happens when we die, but I’m sure we are with everyone we miss and love. I’m super interested in paranormal stuff so I wish I knew more, but we just have to wait and see! I’ll go with the mansion in the sky :)

Lara August 23, 2011 at 12:49 am

This made me smile. I love the picture of you and your mom, and I love that you look so much like both of your parents <3
By the way, something that has bothered me since I posted my answers to the other set of personal questions was my rant on tattoos and what you might think of it…I remember you have one in tribute to Miss Mable. I hope that didn't offend you! If I ever DID get a tattoo, my fur babies would certainly be the only worthy subject :) xox

Marisa August 23, 2011 at 2:11 am

37 years. I was born right after their 1st anniversary. And I am 8 years older than you. Add 9 to your age. :) Or 27 to Kaylees age since she was born on their 27th to the day. Sorry… just the date geek in me coming out. And I believe that we will all be together after this life or it makes it too hard to say goodbye to loved ones. I hope Roo and Blue and Mable and Speedy are there but no ants, spiders, or cockroaches. Lucy wants to die so she can see what it is Luke and I told her to not look so forward to it because I need her here!

MelissaNibbles August 23, 2011 at 6:12 am

Wow, I never knew that about your parents! That’s awesome!

cathy August 23, 2011 at 6:28 am

that was really fun to read, j! i love how close you are with your mom – me, too. your parents are just so cute!
i do believe in heaven and being reunited with loved ones. but sometimes i just have to wonder about reincarnation!…
i am really good at meeting people and being social. i am really bad at lying.
happy tuesday!

Susan August 23, 2011 at 8:18 am

You did clogging!? Hahahaha. I used to do highland dancing in a kilt and vest and jump over swords. We should put on a show.

I think that when we die we go to a place of rest and peace. Nothing big or fantastical. Kind of like a very long nap. (and yes, like the other Susan, I got this from Harry Potter)

I am very good at making lattes. I am very bad at doing dishes (which really, is a good thing)

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine August 23, 2011 at 8:22 am

I loved reading your answers to these. What happens when we die? I think the mystery is kind of important, actually. I’d like to think that we go to heaven and sit around with the people we love eating chocolate all day, but I guess I’ll have to wait to find that out. And that’s one thing I’m actually okay to wait on, haha :)

HotCoco August 23, 2011 at 8:46 am

1) When we die … Recent experience has led me to believe that our souls go to an in-between place – call it Heaven, or whatever you like – where they congregate with other souls with whom they’ve been aligned. It is then the soul’s choice to either stay in that beautifully restful, communal space, or return to Earth for another incarnation to learn what it needs to.

2) I’m really good at writing and acting. I’m really bad at sports and “making nice;” I’m not athletic and life is too short to be anything other than real.

Allison August 23, 2011 at 8:58 am

Wow, your parents are an inspiration for everyone- true love does exist! [I think I’ve found it myself] :D

1. I’ve thought a lot about this question lately becuase we had to put our dog down in July for health reasons… And I’m still not sure what happens :/

2. I’m really good at helping others and giving 100% of my energy towards the things I commit to… I’m really bad at over-scheduling myself [working on that ;)]

Biz August 23, 2011 at 10:52 am

Loved reading this post Janetha! I am horrible at step-aerobics, yet I was a four season athlete growing up – go figure?!

Always love that picture of you and your Momma!

momma b. August 23, 2011 at 11:17 am

Fun post that made me dry – maybe crying is what I am really good at :)

I’m certain we live after we die and that we see our loved ones AND pets! We are in fact in a whole and healthy state – it’s going to be awesome! Prayers are heard and answered – we are richly blessed!!

That photo was on your birthday right after my heart got fixed – everyday I am so thankful for that operation! Thank you for such a sweet post about me and dad – yes we are in it for the long haul too!

I’m terrible at reading the written directions and following them to put something together (like a desk or cabinet!) (you on the other hand can do this in your sleep)

I had an experience last week that made me realize I am unselfish – I am so concerned about everyone else being happy and healthy I will do almost anything I can to help them, family, friends and others and I love doing it, crazy huh!?!

You’re the best – glad you’re home!
xoxo

Colleenzo August 23, 2011 at 11:51 am

I don’t think heaven is a ‘place’ where you go and see everyone else that died before you, like, ‘Hey JFK! Good to see you!’ I think it’s a perception created by the energy you’ve built while alive. If you created good energy, it’s a pretty decent hangout. If you weren’t the best person and have lots of bad energy, well, there’s your hell. And since it’s essentially your brain creating this ‘place’, everyone you want to see (including pups!) will be there.

I’m really good at reading. REALLY good. Not so good at patience. :)

Jamie aka "Sometimes Healthy" Girl August 23, 2011 at 12:19 pm

Ohhh the death thing is tough – I have no idea…I like to hope it’s some place good…

As for something I’m good at – writing. I love to write almost as much as I love to run (I like running a bit more because you don’t have to put cohesive thoughts together – whereas with writing you do. Generally, I like to run and think of my posts at the same time). I’m bad at being concise. Like really bad. Workin’ on that one…

Christin August 23, 2011 at 12:33 pm

Awww! So cool of you to share so much of your life with us readers! It’s difficult to put yourself out there, especially your personal beliefs…but always so interesting to hear about! Thank you! Your paren’t story is really neat to hear…very inspiring! My parents have also been together for almost 30 years now, and it inspires me to stay with my husband for the long haul, even though we can both be a pain in the a$$ sometimes lol…we just celebrated our 9th anniversary! ;)

let’s see..

I believe that where you go when you die depends on how you lived your life, and whom you served…I believe that how we act towards each other, and the choices we make effect us long term…i’ll just leave it at that… ;)

I am pretty good at dancing and singing…I danced ballet for a long time, some swing, and then hip hop…both my parents are musicians, so I started singing at a young age…I have been in and out of bands and choirs. Dancing and singing aren’t very big in my life right now because of money and time restraints, but it is something that will always be a part of my life!

I am REALLY crappy at being patient…it’s something I have always struggled with, and try really hard to work on…don’t ever drive slow in the fast lane in front of me haha!

Annette@EnjoyYourHealthyLife August 23, 2011 at 12:59 pm

When we die we go to 1 of 4 places! It totally depends on how we live our lives :)

Love the recap of your morning!

Beth @ Beth's Journey August 23, 2011 at 1:35 pm

I’m so glad you answered these questions! It’s so fun to get to know more about the people’s blogs you read! You already know the answers to mine! xoxo

Mary (A Merry Life) August 23, 2011 at 4:25 pm

I really enjoyed this on Beth’s blog and I’m glad you did it too! Clogging? I’ve never met anyone that does that. Ha.

I think your parents are my new relationship role models. That’s really awesome that they have such a strong relationship and you can learn from it.

I’d like to believe when we die we go to heaven. Or somewhere happy. But I don’t know. Maybe it just ends. Maybe we just die. Heavy thoughts, yo!

I’m good at writing. I’m bad at … remembering.

Holly August 23, 2011 at 5:05 pm

I had no idea that your parents only went on one date & then were engaged. HOW stinkin’ cute!! What AMAZING role models- for real!!! :D

Kristie August 23, 2011 at 5:40 pm

I always wished I were good at sports but I always sucked too. At them all. No pro athlete buried in these genes. Or maybe it’s just untapped… future surfing pro perhaps? I can dream…

And I really think you need to dish more deats on your parents’ relationship in a future post, inquiring minds wanna know how the heck they went from one date to an engagement! That is love.

Also – I adore that pic of you and your mom. THAT is love too.

Betty August 23, 2011 at 7:32 pm

I think you explained it best, who knows what happens, I just hope it’s a happy experience!

I’m really good at softball, played 20 years until I blew out my second knee my junior year in undergrad. I’m really bad at lying, which doesn’t really matter cause I hate lying (and liars).

Matt @ The Athlete's Plate August 23, 2011 at 7:35 pm

I think we go to cheese haven when we die :)

Kristina @ spabettie August 23, 2011 at 7:43 pm

I love that photo of you + your mom – it’s heart shaped. :)

and WOW, engaged after one date! that is SO incredibly awesome! your parents are awesome.

I’m good at… numbers. running businesses and the balance sheets, p&l and all that. makes some glaze over, to me it’s my computer game! :) I’m good at tennis, taught in college and then BROKE my knee skiing so… no more tennis. I’m bad at… patience. I try, but I am so not patient. being a passenger in a car. again, I try. not my fault people suck at driving ;) singing. I’m a HORRIBLE singer, but… I have my own karaoke machine. because I LOVE to sing! I just apologize in advance.

Kristin @ STUFT Mama August 23, 2011 at 8:21 pm

Love your morning routine. :) And that picture of you and your mom after the body for life challenge. Man yo ushould be so proud. You both look amazing. :)
I’m really bad at making decisions. I’m the most indecisive person you’ll ever meet.
I’m good at making time for exercise no matter what situation I’m in. :) And I’m good at being a dork. ha ha ha!
