hey guys! i am soaking up my last day here in palm springs.. head back to utah tomorrow and there is snow in the forecast, ugh.

anyway, enough about the weather, let’s talk about chocolate. french pressed hot chocolate, to be exact.

for mother’s day, marshall & i got momma b a baby french press, a gigantic mom mug and a bag of french press hot chocolate called choffy.

choffy is made from 100% organic cacao (cocoa), beans roasted and ground to create a rich drink that provides long-lasting energy and whole-body wellness.

it contains no sugar, dairy, or chemicals; all it contains is organic cacao.

i went to momma b’s house the other day and we brewed the first pot of choffy together.IMG_2879IMG_2885IMG_2886IMG_2891IMG_2892IMG_2898IMG_2899

i personally LOVED the choffy. i am on my no sugar kick and so i really don’t like a lot of sweetness. this hot chocolate with a bit of almond milk was all it took to send me into chocolate bliss. it is probably real bitter to the average person.. but i liked it as-is and unsweetened.

i asked momma b to give me her thoughts on the choffy.

here is her review~

Hi my name is Momma B and I am a chocoholic – there I said it! And I really mean it. I’ve been known to simply walk into a chocolate shop and breathe deeply a few times just to enjoy that wonderful aroma… when Janetha asked me to review Choffy I was excited to give it a try!

She and Marshall gave me a darling little French press for Mother’s Day to make my Choffy in. We boiled the water, poured it into the French press after putting 2 scoops of Choffy per 6 ounces of water, stirred and let it sit for about 4 minutes.

My first taste wasn’t my favorite – it has a rather earthy flavor and seemed too watered
down. I have made it two more times… once with less water and it was better and then
tonight with heated Almond Breeze and it was very creamy.

It reminds me of the incredible dark chocolate we eat in Costa Rica but without the sugar cane.

I have to admit I wasn’t wild about this – I had so hoped to love it but I guess I am a
sugar junky and prefer my cocoa a little sweeter than this offered. I’m sure I could
acquire a taste for this and I am anxious to try some of the other brewed cocoas that are
popping up on the market.

It’s great to try new things, thanks Neef for letting me give it a whirl!

there you have it! the honest truth about choffy.

xo. janetha g & momma b.

*per FTC requirements: i was sent choffy free of charge for review and our opinions are 100% our own.

Sounds like a fun beverage! I actually love really bitter cocoa, so I bet I would love this! What a great gift for your Mom too. I need to get a french press stat. I’ve heard such great things. Enjoy your last day of your trip. Snow??? ughhhh

thanks for the choffy review…I like dark chocolate but I also like sugar. Sometimes I need my chocolate sweet, i.e. in hot chocolate, other times, no. But I would have needed sugar in my choffy I’m thinking.

Love that you french pressed it and Momma B sure looks adorable!

I like unsweetened chocolate so this would be up my alley. Thanks for the honest reviews!

I like biter tasting chocolate – I might like it!

Hmm, never heard of it, but sounds like a cute mom’s day gift. My mom’s a hot chocolate addict, but anytime I give her the fancy stuff, she still prefers her Nesquik – go figure.

But I’m curious to give this a try seeing as I like things that are not as sweet.

This sounds interesting… I have never even heard of french press cocoas. I’ll have to look for it at the health food store!

I actually often like my hot chocolate unsweetened. Or lightly sweetened. I might just have to give Choffy a whirl. Thanks for the tip.

Your mom’s bracelet is so pretty!

Barbara May 21, 2011 at 6:02 am

This stuff is AMAZING when you brew it with coconut milk, add cinnamon, sweetener, protein powder etc! I used it for a client and cooked the oat bran directly in the choffy (I made a concentrated version prior, and then added it to a double boiler with almond milk (chocolate) and another version with coconut milk. I added cocoa, protein powder, cinnamon, sugar free syrups etc. I also made “ice cream” with it, overnight oats, protein pudding etc. I know you are not using any sweeteners (artificial/real/stevia etc), but it is amazing with sugar free pancake syrup/Davinci/Torani etc. Get Momma B to use it in baking and hot cereals, and to lots of milk etc. I almost used it as a concentrate/extract!
Love Momma B’s review!!!!
