three things thursday.

by Janetha on May 5, 2011

in meals

just popping in to share this hilarious toothpaste for dinner comic.

i laugh harder every time i look at it.

and because things have been a little serious around these parts lately, i am going to take a cue from melissa and post my own three things thursday—three random things that get under my skin.

1. see the above comic. and this one.

THAT is what gets under my skin. the wrong use of your/you’re, there/their/they’re, then/than, saying “should of” instead of “should have”.. you get the point. no matter where i see these mistakes, it bothers me.. but i get over it easily when i see it on places like facebook because not everyone cares about grammar. i get it.  but what bothers me most is when i am reading blogs and i see posts scattered with these common mistakes. especially when i see it on blogs of those who blog for a living. come on! please use the right grammar when you write your blog. it’s your job!  side note: i know i don’t capitalize when i blog. however, i do this on purpose. i promise i capitalize elsewhere.

2. my memory. you guys, it’s getting worse and worse!

i have always been a mildly forgetful person. i blame that one on my mom. but lately i have been forgetting to do super simple daily things.  taking my vitamins before leaving the house or sending out a group text for work before i leave the office. these are things i usually do every day and have been forgetting them more and more and MORE.  i definitely blame all that weed smokin’ in my younger years for some of this memory loss… but it’s getting worse! i downloaded some brain training apps on my iphone that are supposed to help your memory. do you think ginkgo biloba works?

3. the fact that i have the letters to spell the word “courage” but nowhere to play it. how frustrating. oh, and meg.. now you totally know all my letters in our game.

such a sad sight.

in other news, i am pumped at all the feedback on my weigh in wednesday post! your comments definitely opened up a few new perspectives to me. thanks for all the open and honest remarks! i did want to clarify that i wrote that post not because i felt i had to justify my own actions, but more to say HEY.. people are different and eat different and think different and act different… and it’s best to just be the best you that you can be. i wanted to put my own opinion out there and hear what your opinions were. i think that post was very successful because a lot of you chimed in with your own opinions. it was awesome. thanks much.

don’t forget to enter my polka dog bakery giveaway! your furry friend will thank you.

oh. and happy cinco de mayo! i am celebrating the right way… with greek food and my favorite emily.

what’s bugging you today?

Haha. You know I love this. I posted that TPFD “Your welcome” on Michelle’s wall this morning. Hilarity!

1. The fact that none of Simon’s family is coming to the wedding from England, but they go on trips all the time to Mexico, Spain, and Turkey. Very uncool. Super pissed.
2. My Words with Friends crashes ever 3o seconds. It’s getting old.
3. I need a self warming coffee cup, I hate it takes me 3 hours to drink one cup and it’s freezing by the time I finish it

janetha May 5, 2011 at 9:52 am

YOU NEED A CONTIGO MUG! how have i not given you one yet? i will get you one. i am drinking my coffee from 8 AM and it is piping hot.

Allison @ Food For Healing May 5, 2011 at 9:16 am

that giveaway makes me sad now. my boyfriends familys (or families?… now you got my self conscious :P ) dog is being put to sleep today. I am so like.. upset, unsure of what to think and do.. just plain sad. SO that is what is bugging me today.
i apologize if any of my grammar is bad! i never liked it in school

Emily May 5, 2011 at 9:29 am

I am a grammar snob myself. I think if someone is going to write publicly, he kind of owes it to his audience to try and use correct grammar. Maybe?

B vitamins are good for the brain! I LOVE Max Stress B by Premier Research Labs (all of their products are amazing, excipient-free). It’s vegan, derived from live probiotic strains, whole B-complex- rather than isolated B vitamins- and is great for energy, mental clarity, mood and adrenal support. I really feel better taking it regularly.

The Dr. I work for is out of town so he has another Dr. covering for him. I have to text the covering Dr. when he gets a consult or whatever… he doesn’t text me back to acknowledge he rec’d my text. … a “K” would suffice for me. gosh. I hate to harass him but if he doesn’t acknowledge me I’m going to start calling him :-)

VeggieGirl May 5, 2011 at 9:59 am

My memory is getting bad too! haha.

Abby May 5, 2011 at 10:00 am

I’m obsessed with TFD and Natlie Dee, so I love you even more. Plus, it’s actually sunny today. Woo-hoo!

What’s bugging me? To keep with the grammar thing, I will say the fact that I’ve received three press releases/emails today from “big” companies that have had obvious typos and mistakes. Be professional people!

Plus, the ballgame is on this afternoon and I’m stuck at work. Boo hiss…

BrocStar May 5, 2011 at 10:02 am

I forget to take my allergy medicine all the time and it drives me CRAZY!

Holly @ The Runny Egg May 5, 2011 at 10:04 am

Whats bugging me — the fact that the sun is shining and it is warm outside (!!!) and I’m stuck inside working.

Laughin' In The Rain May 5, 2011 at 2:29 pm

I hear you, sister!!

Laura May 5, 2011 at 10:04 am

LOVE! There are a few blogs that literally make me cringe because they’re (there, their…) so full of grammatical errors! I agree that when you write a blog for a living, you should proof-read just a little…

Anyway, “should of” instead of “should have” is one of my pet peeves, as well. Makes me think of a show I was watching that had a girl saying she had an “outer body experience.” lol

Hope all is well!

Mary May 5, 2011 at 10:06 am

I agree completely with #1, especially the part about if you have a blog for a living (but I have been known to hide people on facebook that have terrible grammar). It drives me crazy! I would assume that people proofread what they are posting for the whole world to see, but I see these problems daily, so I guess I’m wrong.

Brit May 5, 2011 at 10:17 am

I love #1! It bothers me when “professional” bloggers make grammar mistakes, but it is most troubling to me when blogging teachers make grammar mistakes. I feel like they should know better and that they should care.

todayilovemylife May 5, 2011 at 10:31 am

I love you. I’m so happy you didn’t forget our date. See? You DO have a good memory after all! See you at 7. Wheeeeee!!!! xoxo

Meg May 5, 2011 at 10:32 am

Hahaha. I tried not to peek… then realized that courage uses up all your letters. *duh* I’m incredibly forgetful too, so I’m sure I’ll forget before I pick up that game again. (By the way, have you played cut the rope yet?)

Something that’s bugging me is that I had the strangest dream last night that my husband was ignoring me and I was trying to tell him our truck had gotten stolen or broken into. I woke up so frustrated!

Paige (Running Around Normal) May 5, 2011 at 10:37 am

I hate those grammar mistakes, too. I also hate when people don’t rack their weights at the gym and leave their crap every where! Ruuuude.

Carly May 5, 2011 at 10:55 am

You are so on point with the racking of the weights. I also hate it when people do rack them, but don’t put them in the right spot on the weight rack!

Juliette May 5, 2011 at 6:26 pm

Totally agree with racking of the weights!!!

Meg May 5, 2011 at 10:38 am

HEY.. people are different and eat differentLY and think differentLY and act differentLY…

Sorry, bad grammar bugs me too!

janetha May 5, 2011 at 11:25 am

Carly May 5, 2011 at 10:51 am

I absolutely hate grammar mistakes too! My biggest pet peeve is on facebook when people put up a picture and say “joe and i”… it is “joe and me”. I also hate that one of my best friends posts bad grammar on facebook – she is an ENGLISH TEACHER… what?!?!

Errign May 5, 2011 at 11:19 am

gahhhh some blogs are riddled with grammar & spelling errors and they drive me a little nutso. everyone makes mistakes, but seriouslyyyy. :)

I love that you’re having greek food on cinco de mayo. What’s bugging me today are the like, 5, zits that popped up on my face overnight. for reals, not cool.

edenseats May 5, 2011 at 12:17 pm

Things that bug me? I could write a book on that!

1) Seedless watermelons, because they are suspicious
2) Elvis impersonators that can’t get the hair right
3) Standard iPod earbuds
4) Our culture’s obsessive exercise of control over women’s bodies through the cult of hair removal
5) Use of the word “whilst”

Um yea, I can go on and on…trust me, you dont want to hear them all!

tea-bag May 5, 2011 at 12:37 pm

double negatives. i can’t stand them!

Katie May 5, 2011 at 12:48 pm

I’m kind of a grammar nazi, too. It takes everything I have not to correct people when they end their sentence with a preposition. I correct my students CONSTANTLY, but when I hardly no someone, I try to show some restraint.

janetha May 5, 2011 at 12:51 pm

ahahah.. *know

i couldn’t help myself!

Bess May 5, 2011 at 7:05 pm

I also hate when ppl end sentences in a preposition! “this is where I work at”. RAR! So wrong. haha again janetha, thanks for letting us vent with you :)

evamadera May 5, 2011 at 1:00 pm

I am so with you on the grammar mistakes thing. It’s such a joke in my family too. We’re all grammar nerds. :D

LauraJayne May 5, 2011 at 1:02 pm

I HATE seeming grammatical errors (and spelling errors) too – but then I’m always totally embarassed when I find them in my posts that I’ve already published!

I’m totally bugged by late people today – including me. I feel like I’m running late for life!

Abby May 5, 2011 at 1:10 pm

Grammar errors drive me bonkers! I always feel like a b*tch for being a grammar nazi! lol. The thing that is bugging me is my instructor not posting final grades yet. My summer can’t begin until I know how I did!

katshealthcorner May 5, 2011 at 2:23 pm

Hahah, those grammer errors made me laugh SO loudly! :)

MelissaNibbles May 5, 2011 at 2:54 pm

Grammar errors are the worst. Especially when they come from the “professional” bloggers with book deals or jobs in social media. I want to throw my computer.

thefitacademic May 5, 2011 at 4:30 pm

poor grammar drives me crazy, too! How crazy you’ve got “Courage” but nowhere to play it! That would definitely get under my skin, too!

Matt @ The Athlete's Plate May 5, 2011 at 4:35 pm

Happy Cinco De Mayo!

Greek food is always OK ;)

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) May 5, 2011 at 4:48 pm

if you think your memory is bad now, just have a kid. it will get significantly worse, i promise :)

what’s bugging me? my inbox that just.never.stops.filling.up

your post yesterday was awesome. had to mention that again!

Rhoni May 5, 2011 at 5:11 pm

What is bugging me is that I just dug out both of your blogs today from my spam folder in my email!!! Just thought I’d send you a head’s up in case someone else is having a problem…did you change something? I know I didn’t change my email settings unless my gmail changed something without telling me. Anyway, I’m hoping the problem is solved and it’s just me, but if your readership is low today maybe something is wrong?!

Anyway, I totally agree with number 1. I cannot stand poor grammar, especially on blogs. :/

janetha May 6, 2011 at 9:55 am

Thank you for the heads up, Rhoni! I didn’t change anything, but that is frustrating :(

Allison @ Runs A Latte May 5, 2011 at 5:27 pm

I love posts where I get to vent! I’m a grammar nazi, too, but I’m usually half-brain dead by the time I get home from work (I write all day long for my job), that I sometimes make ridiculous mistakes on my own blog. I usually have my fiance proofread it for me – of course, after I publish it.

What makes me mad are bosses that pile on tons of work when you’re already struggling to complete the minimum. I mean have days magically become longer? Do I work more than 40 hours a week? If you add big things, you have to prioritize – you can’t have it all.

PHEW! That’s much better!

jen May 5, 2011 at 5:35 pm

I teach language arts and grammar. I agree with the posts that point out some professional bloggers, especially with a social media job, who clearly do not take the time to read. When said professional uses an etirely incorrect word, I hope she realizes it changes the meaning of your sentece. It makes one less credible. Oy vey. I also worked in the editorial and marketing departments for a publishing company. It makes me wonder how some people get their jobs. I teach student who are struggling readers, so they have an excuse, but when it’s your job. Sigh. Shrug. The integrity of the English language is going down the shitter anyway. To idoicracy!

Bess May 5, 2011 at 7:01 pm

I HATEEEE when people don’t know when to use “I” or “me” when talking about themselves with another person. Always put the other person first and then…its easy…just say the rest of the sentence as if the other person isn’t there. If it makes sense to say “I”, then its “Janetha and I”. For example…ppl on facebook always have pictures tagged and it says “Janetha and I”…that would be Janetha and ME! If you were in a picture by yourself you would not say..”this is I”. You would say this is me. However, if you are going to get coffee with someone, you would say, “Janetha and I are going to go get coffee” because clearly it wouldn’t make sense if you said “me is going to get coffee”.

Thank you Janetha for letting me vent this out…it drives me crazy! And also thanks for being the name I use as an example for my other person. haha :)

janetha May 6, 2011 at 9:55 am

AHHHHHHHH! I AGREE WITH THIS ONE! My mom and I talk about it all the time. Oh wait.. My mom and me ;) j/k

Kerryne May 5, 2011 at 8:08 pm

I have too many things to vent about today so I am just going to keep my mouth shut :)

This is totally not related to your post but I have to ask you again… where do you shop? I know you told me about a health food store in SLC area somewhere that you go to but for the life of me I cannot remember. Thanks!!!!

janetha May 6, 2011 at 9:54 am

Haha.. venting is fun. Um, I shop at Sunflower Market (there is one on 7th east and 2nd south, one across from Fashion Place and one in Orem) and also Cali’s Natural Foods (17th south and 350 west open Sat-Mon).. and then just Whole Foods!

kissmybroccoli May 5, 2011 at 8:33 pm

Haha! I was just talking to a co-worker today about being a grammar nerd! My boss was like, “Who cares,” but I’m sorry, I DO!

FYI, we got on the subject after getting a menu from a new sub place that opened up near work: Foxx’s Sub Shoppe…note the apostrophe…yeah, they forgot it…on mass produced menus! UGH!

I’ve tried taking all kinds of supplements for my memory, but I can’t seem to remember to take them! ;) So sad, yet so true!

AshinMT May 6, 2011 at 8:33 am

Someone may have already mentioned this, but i read many moons ago that blueberries helped with memory loss. From what i recall it was specific to short term memory but after a quick google search, there seems to be more to it then that. Have a good weekend :)

janetha May 6, 2011 at 9:35 am

Thank you for the tip!

Theodora May 6, 2011 at 5:33 pm

Also, supposedly and SUPPOSIVELY.
