flashback friday: top ten.

by Janetha on April 22, 2011

in meals,moves

YO!

sorry about the post overkill today. i know this is my third. but i promise, it’s my third and FINAL post of the day. it’s been a minute since i told you about my meals, so let’s start with that, mmmmkay?

breakfast: 1 cup puffed brown rice + 2/3 cup nature’s path maple sunrise cereal + almond milk & 4 egg white pillow + ketchup.

IMG_1660

i am in love with this new-to-me cereal! you still have a chance to enter to win some HERE.

IMG_1653

you really can’t go wrong with egg white pillows. so simple, so quick, so tasty, so protein packed!

IMG_1661

lunch: veggies + hummus & leftover tofu lasagna casserole.

IMG_1664

not the most pleasing-to-the-eye meal by any means, but it was delicious and did the trick!

this was my homemade sun dried tomato hummus that i made last friday paired with an orange bell pepper and a couple baby cucumbers.

IMG_1668

the casserole is one i just threw together last night—marshall loved it and i just liked it. it actually was a lot better today, as is the case with most casseroles.  the ingredients included red onion, garlic, tofu, spaghetti squash, low fat cottage cheese, fire roasted diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, fresh basil and whole wheat elbow macaroni. oh, and a boatload of trader joe’s 21 seasoning salute.

IMG_1666

just like lasagna, i promise.

snack: a banana and too many handfuls of love crunch granola.

hey, it happens.

i felt like poo this morning and i didn’t wake up to work out. first time since i started insanity that i missed the morning workout! i made up for it after work and completed the plyometric cardio circuit RIGHT when i got home. (well, after those handfuls of granola…) it scares me to say this, but i think i love working out in the morning. i don’t know how i managed to work out every day AFTER work. that just isn’t going to fly anymore. now that i know this, i will make more of an effort to get up every morning. this morning was just rough because i had a sore throat (still do, knock on wood) and knew i had nothing pressing right after work, so i could get the insanity done then.  anyway, this was way more information than you needed. moving on.

we took the dogs on a walk over to the local park because my friend was playing soccer there! we had a nice (chilly) visit with simon, jessica and ronin (their dog) and i officially decided it needs to be summer. burrrr.

i just got done showering and now am going to get to work on dinner. not sure what i am going to make, but it will for sure involve chicken as i have a couple of organic chicken breasts in the fridge just waiting to be made into something delicious.

********************************************************

in honor of my two year blog birthday and flashback friday, i decided to flashback to my top ten most viewed posts.  i simply checked what they were on good old wordpress statistics. i eliminated the ones that were giveaways because we all know why those were top viewed posts.

#10: spring clean up on march 27, 2011.

this was a pretty recent post! i talked about my spring time goals and the importance of cleaning up not only our house when spring time comes, but also our bodies—through diet and exercise and healthy habits.

my spring clean up goals were:

  • drink a gallon of water daily
  • eat at least 125 grams of protein daily—spacing it out at each meal
  • take all my vitamins & supplements regularly
  • stick to a workout schedule
  • stop grabbing handful after handful of random stuff when i am at home just because it is there and i am bored (peanut butter filled pretzels, cereal, mary’s crackers, dark chocolate)
  • don’t eat while driving (i swear this is my downfall—when i eat my snack in the car i feel like i didn’t eat a snack at all)

i also slurped down a delicious green protein smoothie that day.

#9: abs are made in the kitchen on february 18, 2011.

this post contained details about eight things you could consume that would help pave the way to a nice set of abs. they were spicy foods, lean proteins, glutamine, cinnamon, citrus, berries, green tea and omega 3’s.  a healthy diet and regular exercise really CAN help transform your abs.

imageimage

trust me, i know first-hand.

#8: i’ll trade my left hand to have my sense of taste back on july 18, 2009.

okay, WOW, i read this post am surprised that it is ranked #8 for post views. it was at a time i was sicker than i’ve ever been, had ZERO sense of taste and a real lack of photography skills.

i posted a whole bunch of food and kept saying “wow, bet that tasted good! too bad i couldn’t taste it!”

and then, for the first time ever, i made my garbanzo beans + cottage cheese + ranch seasoning combo and could ACTUALLY taste it. and i praised the heavens because i could taste something. and it just may be my favorite combo ever.. i have been eating it ever since!

image

i think a lot of people in blog land tried this combo out.. you should, too, IT IS SO GOOD! except since then, i realized hidden valley ranch seasoning has MSG, and so now i buy the organic version.

#7: jamaica or bust on february 4, 2010.

in this post, i showed the results of my jamaican me bikini ready challenge.  this was a 4 week challenge i embarked upon in order to get ready for my vacation to jamaica. it was pretty strict and i stuck to it. it was hard, but the hard work paid off.

imageimage

i reviewed all the changes i made for those weeks leading up to my trip and talked about why certain things worked for me. i also talked about how i probably wouldn’t be doing another die-hard 4 week challenge ever again.

#6: deep thoughts and ice cream on january 24, 2011.

another recent one. this is where i talked about my complicated past with drugs and alcohol.

image

it was a good one to type and i am glad i shared because it produced some of the best comments ever.

#5: the answers on april 7, 2011.

super recent! this one had my recipe for the chobani lemon yogurt chiaseed protein muffins.

image

need i say more?

#4: a dog day afternoon on august 22, 2009.

back when penny turned one, i did a doggie giveaway! this post was all the submissions of dogs around blog land. i loved going back and looking at all these cute pooches!

image

the big winner of the giveaway was FRANK! love him!!

image

there are so many more dogs in blog land, you should all check out tina’s blog dog feature if you haven’t.

#3: who knew clean eating could taste so good? on january 11, 2010.

this was right at the beginning of my aforementioned jamaica challenge. i posted a fun total body workout and HIIT session.  i also posted a great recipe for stuffed chicken.. ohh.. maybe i should make that tonight..

image

i talked about how you don’t have to “suffer” to eat healthy.. it really does taste good!

#2: my fast food story on september 27, 2010.

i loved writing this post! i used to be a fast food addict and this post talked about my history with eating fast food multiple times a day.

i then went on to re-create my favorite fast food meal (from KFC) at home—and healthy!

image

i loved reading all the comments on your experiences with fast food!

#1: the unintentional vegetarian on april 12, 2010.

this post is when i dreamed up and created the faux wendy’s frosty.. with an added protein punch! oh man, it’s been WAY too long since i had one!!

image

as a side note.. i also had a delicious egg white wrap and a grilled cheese with almond butter and pear (it was national grilled cheese day) that day and those are two things i need to have in my life ASAP! i should probably just look at my own old posts next time i need a meal idea. duh.

I’ve gotten myself into SUCH an early morning workout routine and my whole day feels off when I push it back to later (like, when I’m exhausted and can’t get up early haha)

Ellie April 22, 2011 at 6:48 pm

can’t wait to see your new recipe page Janetha! And I’m sure your reminders of how you reached your fitness goals are a a graet inspiration to many people out there! :)

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) April 22, 2011 at 7:51 pm

Janetha…I love that you did the top 10 posts and recipes! so fun to remember these b/c I have been reading your blog since the very beginning (minus 1st 3 mos)

“i simply checked what they were on good old wordpress statistics. “– I am soooo pissed that I dont get these w/ my self hosted WP site. Have checked w/ my web girl and there is some random glitch I cant get straightened out but I want stats!

Anyway this was a total trip down memory lane for me, too! Jamaica, Wendy’s Frosty, Drugs/Alcohol (recent)..they all rocked!

Mary (A Merry Life) April 23, 2011 at 12:33 am

Averie you should use Google analytics if you can’t get WP stats. That will work and give you accurate stat info.

actorsdiet April 22, 2011 at 8:01 pm

i still have to try your garbonzo beans/cottage cheese/ranch dip concoction. i don’t think i’ve ever bought a packet of ranch dressing seasoning but i will for you!

Emily April 22, 2011 at 9:05 pm

Once you get into the routine, early workouts are the best! I feel like a morning workout always sets me up for a good day. And I don’t have to worry about trying to fit it in later, when the craziness of the day is surrounding me.

Looking at your faux frosty is making me very hungry. I think some dessert may be in order tonight…

Melissa @ TryingToHeal April 22, 2011 at 9:53 pm

oh my goodness where did you get that owl spoon!?!?!?!? i want one!!!!

Stefanie @TheNewHealthy April 22, 2011 at 9:57 pm

Carin April 22, 2011 at 10:06 pm

Carin April 22, 2011 at 10:11 pm

i did tried, but that one isn’t hyperlinked! i’m not sure what the deal is :). no rush, just whenever you have time. i’ve always wanted to try it and now i have a vitamix so i can protein frosty myself to death!

The Sometimes Healthy Girl April 23, 2011 at 6:31 am

Isn’t it interesting to see which posts get the most views? I find that my posts about NYC are most popular :-) Not surprising. It is pretty fab haha. I just started reading the posts you listed and plan on reading them all. Thanks for putting them into one list!

Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather April 23, 2011 at 6:52 am

The egg white puff is such a go to for me! Love that with my breakfast :) Sorry you felt like poo yesterday- hopefully today is much better! Once you get used to working out in the morning- its impossible to go back! GREAT post review. And I love that Frank made it (obviously) into this post ;). I wonder what he was thinking when I took that picture ;) Love love your apple cinnamon protein coffee cake and can’t wait to make the taco soup. Happy Saturday!

Verity Kae April 23, 2011 at 9:17 am

I LOVE the Maple Sunrise cereal. Ive been eating it for such a long time. Actually had some this morning for breakfast. Its not only delicious, but also gluten free and most of the GF cereals are a bit bland.

Have a good day!!

Pure2raw twins April 23, 2011 at 12:38 pm

Have a great weekend girl! Happy Easter!

quandariesoftheaverage April 23, 2011 at 2:13 pm

In your Jamaica or Bust post, when you talk about the ‘hamstring curve’–I die! That is one of my favorite parts on a human body–people think I’m the strangest thing ever when I say that, but I really think it’s the mark of a person who works out and isn’t just slim bc they have a fantastic metabolism!

Christin@purplebirdblog April 23, 2011 at 6:50 pm

I saw that Maple Awesomeness cereal the other day but haven’t bought it yet… I only refrained because I still have it’s sister Vanilla Awesomeness to finish up at home, which is currently my favorite cereal of all time. It’s ridiculous. I can only imagine how amazing the maple must be!

Danica April 23, 2011 at 7:26 pm

You know you actually look REALLY TALL in your #6 picture with the blue moon. I LOVED reading your top 10 and the cool part, I actually remembered reading all those posts :D

Yeah!

Love ya! XOXO!
