a whole lotta firsts.

after a heart-pumping session at the gym yesterday afternoon (yay for not taking a third day in a row off from working out!), marshall and i cleaned up and headed to kristen & rory’s for a barbecue.

the first barbecue of the year, in fact!

marshall wanted a burger and i wanted a salad, so we compromised and i had a hamburger salad and he had his burger! he stuffed his with bleu cheese.

i watched.. and diligently ate pita chips & hummus.

and snacked on some fresh fruit..

i absolutely cannot wait for melon season. just sayin.

when it was time to eat, i laid my burger patty atop a big bed of various salad greens and veggies—all straight from the whole foods salad bar. yep, lazy girl’s salad.

this morning was another first for breakfast..

cinnamon raisin bagel thin + mighty maple + banana & coffee + skim.

the part that was a first was the cinnamon raisin bagel thin. like i mentioned when i tried the whole wheat ones, you can’t eat these thinking you are eating a bagel. it’s not a bagel, no. but it is definitely tasty, yes. i dig ‘em.

next up: another first. a very, very, very big first!

YOGA. i have never in my 27 years, 10 months and 1 day of being alive done yoga.  some people find that hard to believe—but i just never got around to it! my friend lindsay invited me to tag along to a free bikram yoga session, so i bit the bullet. now or never, right?

we went to the bikram yoga sandy studio—here’s a tip, the first saturday of every month has a free 10 AM class for new students. so this was 90 minutes of free, hot fun.  i wasn’t sure what to expect, so i went in with an open mind. i mean, i have to figure out a way to touch my toes before the end of the year (it was my new years resolution) so i decided yoga was a good place to start.

it. was. hot. but it was also amazing! i actually really, really, REALLY enjoyed it. every sweaty minute. i am not a fan of posting post-workout sweaty photos of myself, but this is an exception. my hair was soaked through!

we ended up paying $20 for a month of unlimited classes—it is usually $100 a month, so this was a great intro deal. if you live in the area you should check it out! 

i am going to try to go as much as i can this month.. but it takes about 30 minutes to GET to the studio, so we will see.  even if i only go 3 or 4 times, that is totally worth the twenty bucks.

we felt much better once we got outside in the cool, breezy air!

on the way home i cheated and ate in the car—my breakfast was SO light (they said to show up to the class with an empty stomach) so i practically inhaled another first.

loved it, but not my favorite. PB+J or cherry pie are my faves at the moment.

and i stopped into starbucks for my first iced americano of the year.  this had a splash of soy and a heavy sprinkle of cinnamon.

and now i am lounging on my couch, eating bell peppers & hummus, after a nice long shower. is it weird that i feel like i just got a 90 minute massage instead of a workout?! i could get used to this yoga thing.

we start insanity tomorrow morning.. better get some R&R in while i can!

i really like yoga! I dont get to do it as much as I would like.
But I have never done HOT yoga, which might be one of my FIRSTs.
A most recent first was I made apple feta pizza. It turned out pretty good!

OMG girl- your first yoga and you did Bikram? YOU GO GIRL!! I love love love Bikram Yoga and like you, my closest studio is at least 30 minutes away, actually a bit closer to 40 minutes away. I’m hoping that with everything changing, I will be traveling LESS so I can do that at least once a week. It is amazing isn’t it?? ;-)

i have been meaning to ask you how touching your toes is going!! i’m glad you answered. keep working at it. it was totally one of my resolutions too but i was so embarrassed to list it and then you did it too! i’m pregnant now though so you’ll beat me to it. i can barely put my shoes on over my tummy so it will have to come later!!

I’ve only been to one yoga class before and it was in Hawaii. I went with my mom and they chanted “ooohhhhmmmm” a lot, did a couple stretches and then and sprinkled lavender water on me at the end. It. Was. So. Boring.

I’m hoping to work up the nerve to enroll in a prenatal yoga class soon but I want someone to go with! I hate being alone in public, I always feel like an ass. Especially in a workout environment.

Finalllyyyyyy!!!! AND you liked it!! Too bad the studio is so far away. But I promise doing yoga will make a huge difference in a whole bunch of aspects of your life. I don’t know how I’d ever be able to put on a jacket with one hand if it weren’t for the twists I did in yoga. And it’ll improve your weight lifting! Also, there’s tons more types out there, so if you bore of bikram there’s lots more for you to try.

My first? I held a baby for the first time!!! Well, kinda. He slept on my belly :)
