feel good friday.

by Janetha on March 18, 2011

in meals

friends! hi. i just got done with a bodyrock.tv workout and i am feelin’ pretty good. amazing what a short 16 minute workout can do to ya. today was a great day all around, actually.

i started my day with a breakfast that makes me feel good.

i have been eating this over and over and over again: 6 oz plain greek yogurt, 1 cup kashi golean cereal, 1 sliced banana and a splash of almond milk.

should have snapped a photo, but i am sure you can imagine what that looks like.

cereal rambles ahead. consider yourself warned.

i am a cereal monster, it’s no secret. i would eat cereal for every meal of the day if i didn’t think other nutrients were essential to my overall existence. the downfall is cereal isn’t filling. not for me at least… i could literally eat a whole box and still eat another bowl. not exaggerating. so, to tame my cereal craving and to ward off hunger until lunch time.. i add protein-filled yogurt for staying power, banana for flavor (okay, and nutrients, but really just because bananas taste so damn good) and almond milk because what’s cereal without milk?

i have eaten this almost every morning this month. it makes me happy, keeps me full and satisfies the cereal monster within. i love using kashi golean because of the extra protein and i adore the fact that there are several different types of pieces so it feels like you are mixing your cereals without all the work.

okay, okay.. cereal rambles over.

another reason today is dubbed “feel good friday” is i had a really amazing lunch date meeting with amy from xagave!

i have worked with xagave in the past and they are a really stand up company. what’s even cooler the fact that they are local. i had only had correspondence with xagave through email and it was high time we met in person! amy and i met at the dodo to talk business.. but we totally got sidetracked talking about life in general.

we started with the brie + fruit plate. isn’t it almost too pretty to eat?

i snagged the blackened chicken salad, but was so busy yapping my face off that i hardly remembered to eat. sorry for rambling, amy, that’s what i do best!

my favorite part was the jicama shreds. i kinda forgot about jicama there for a minute. i need to buy some soon.

amy is SO kind and generous, she brought me a bunch of xagave as well as the company’s latest product: expeller pressed canola oil. you will be seeing me use that in my kitchen soon! and quite possibly the coolest thing amy gave me was the xagave cookbook which i was actually published in!

makes me happy. feel good friday, indeed. thanks, amy! can’t wait to see you again!

the day only got better because i got home and momma b brought daffodils by.

she takes them to her clients every spring. do you need to buy or sell your house? call my mom, you will not only get daffodils in the spring, you will also get a cool recipe calendar and a chance to sit on santa’s lap at christmas time. i know, she goes above and beyond the call of real estate duty.

one last feel good friday moment was when i checked out the mail. first off, blog friend/reader tona HANDmade these ultra cute owl birthday cards the other night and was thoughtful enough to send me a blank one..

um, probably too cute to ever use!! thank you, tona!

my other fun and feel goo mail was a surprise package from another blog friend/reader maren.

maren said she had some tera’s whey she didn’t want, so that is what i thought she was sending. i was so surprised to see all the TJs goodies—even treats for penny & randy! (by the way, i immediately opened the PB pretzels and ate like 15 of them before snapping a photo.. those are my downfall.)

maren wrote a sweet note i have to share.. she wrote that the package was to thank me for all she’s learned through my blog this past year. i kinda almost cried. thank you, maren.

this is why i blog! not to make money and not to preach and not to get free stuff sent to me. but for the friendships developed and the constant lessons i learn each day from bloggers, readers and companies in this community. it makes me smile every. single. day.

definitely a feel good friday.

sorry to get all sappy up in here. sometimes ya gotta!

well, i am off to make a st. patrick’s day redemption meal. since there wasn’t time to make it last night, i am carrying the sweet potato shepherd’s pie and irish soda bread menu over  to tonight. it’s a good thing, too, because i think marshall is going to go ballistic if he doesn’t get his casserole fix soon.

hasta luego!

1. what is one thing that made you feel good today?

2. what is your favorite part about blog writing/reading?

I love getting to meet and know people all over the country from blogging, too. I just met another blogger today at Starbucks and the conversation flowed like we had always known each other.

My favorite part about blog reading is actually being able to read things and connect with people that I can actually relate to. Where I live and the people I am surrounded with at school are very judgmental of the things that are important to me and almost treat me like a crazy person because I’m passionate about creating healthy meals and exercising! I also enjoy learning something new every day from the blogs I read! I am making your chicken & broccoli quinoa casserole this weekend! Can’t wait! :)

Jenn (GH) March 18, 2011 at 8:14 pm

I had a killer kettlebell/rope workout today with my hubby in a park. It was great!!!

I blog mostly because I enjoy writing and blogging keeps me writing regularly. I also very much enjoy making online friends. It’s been a fun adventure to be sure.

Amanda March 18, 2011 at 8:23 pm

I love getting letters/emails from people who read my blog too! It is so nice to be able to help others and really connect with other healthy foodies out there!

edenseats March 18, 2011 at 8:31 pm

I told you cereal and iphone are addicting!!! I think my ultimate dream is to actually develop my own cereal. something delicious and fun but not too sugary that it might as well be candy.

Is it totally lame that some guy I have a twitter crush on started following me today and thats what made me feel good today?!

And I think you know why I blog, to develop create wonderful relationships with fabulous people such as yourself. Foodbuzz free loot doesn’t hurt though.

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) March 18, 2011 at 8:45 pm

omg so fitting that you are posting this post! my next post that will go out tomorrow i talk about friends and friends ive made blogging and that they are the best! I got a care package in the mail from a bloggie friend today, totally unexpected and i was having one of those days and it made my day go from zero to hero :)

momma b March 18, 2011 at 8:55 pm

Feel good Friday – it could be a regular – like flash back Friday!

How can I pick just one thing good about today?!? I can’t so I’ll give you a few :)

1. just because it wasn’t Thursday
2. got an offer on a listing
3. got to see you and the pups
4. ate at my new favorite Thai spot – Pawit’s Royal Thai Cuisine – wow!

I love seeing the friendships that are created through blogging, I love the photos so we can get to know others better, I love the creative writing talents that are shared and I really love all that I learn!! p.s. you are my very favorite blogger ever!! xoxo

spabettie March 18, 2011 at 8:57 pm

I received two gifts in the mail today – from a reader and from a blog friend. you are SO right, that is THE BEST thing about blogging – I love the friendships I have made! (and I love to make someones day by sending them something, and I ALWAYS love receiving mail!!) :D

this community is so inspirational – that is the other amazing thing I love about it. all kinds of warm fuzzies all the time!

congrats on the shake getting in the cookbook – such an amazing feeling, I bet!

megan @ muncher cruncher March 18, 2011 at 9:13 pm

Oh my…I am in LOVE with cereal as well. My favorite is the kashi go lean crunch! I seriously do feel like I could eat it for every meal. MAN that stuff is good. I went to the dodo with my bro last year, and I LOVED it! I need to head up to SLC to make another trip there. Was that their menu that your shake was on? that is so cool!! :)
I started blogging as a reference for my clients, and now it’s amazing the connections I have made with people. I agree with you on learning from others too. It’s such an awesome resource! I hope you’re having a GREAT weekend! xoxoxo

Jill {irun ieat} March 18, 2011 at 9:21 pm

I always forget about bodyrock.tv until I read your blog! I gotta try it out one of these days.

I started blogging to answer a lot of the questions I get asked from clients, friends & family as well as post recipe & workout suggestions. I haven’t been able to post as much as I like, but that’s changing.

Today was good because I actually feel like I made progress on the boxes that need to be unpacked. I really was feeling like the boxes were never ending!

sofia March 18, 2011 at 9:43 pm

love this post. interested in this xagave stuff! so much positive energy. you totally deserve all the awesomeness that has come your way from your blog because you are genuine in what you’re doing – that’s the key.

1. hmm, i’d have to say my abiliy to appreciate an alignment-focused yoga class was pretty sweet. and shocking. it was nice to relax but really focus on how my body felt in different postures.

2. besides real-life friends, i love that writing a blog let’s my writer’s voice be heard and noticed. it can be scary sometimes, but defining my voice and not being ashamed of what i’m writing/ putting forth is pretty awesome.

Laura (starloz) March 18, 2011 at 10:08 pm

lovely post.

Logan Osterhout @ Sundaynightsimmer March 18, 2011 at 10:44 pm

One thing that made me happy today was finally creating a blog and posting a recipe! I love kashi go lean too! I have the pre-portioned cups (you can order) and pour muscle milk light over it. It’s really good! Trader joes is one of the only places I shop, I love that place! Just went there to buy some pizza dough this morning!

Mama Pea March 18, 2011 at 11:53 pm

This is such a sweet post.

I absolutely blog for the relationships. I feel like I have friends everywhere. Even the SLC.

Kashi Go Lean is back in my life too. I love it.

1970kikiproject March 19, 2011 at 2:58 am

janetha, you could do a cereal ramble every day and i would read voraciously!!! as you know, i am a CEREAL MONSTER!!! i would love to have 41 boxes on the go at once, seriously, and have cereal at every meal. currently, kashi go lean CRUNCH is a new fave!
i blog both for the connections with “blends,” and because i like to be creative and express myself with writing. blogging truly is a great hobby for both reasons.
glad you had such a great friday! i so appreciated our spring-like weather. sure does perk you up!

Katie March 19, 2011 at 4:02 am

This cereal monster misses her cereal so much!!!!!!!! I can’t wait for lent to be over!!! lol

SO sweet that she sent you those goodies and the heartfelt note, it really is amazing, the people you connect with in the blog world, I love everything about it! Amazing friends I have found, like you!

Love ya and happy weekend!! xoxo <3

Erica March 19, 2011 at 4:18 am

I’m obsessed with plain chobani right now! Its so good. I love your bfast combo. GREAT lunch- especially the brie and fruit plate (and the company of course!!). I agree- blogging is awesome for the people alone.

1. Getting to spend some time alone with Josh not doing much of anything (catching up on TV, talking, eating)
2. Definitely getting to know other bloggers, blogger meet ups and finding new recipe ideas

lindsay March 19, 2011 at 4:39 am

oh I love that! It does feel good to “connect” with readers and companies. It truly is a privilage!

MelissaNibbles March 19, 2011 at 4:55 am

That’s my favorite part about blogging. I never get free stuff so that doesn’t even apply. I’m so grateful for the friendships I’ve made.

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine March 19, 2011 at 5:02 am

Next time we see each other at a conference, we’re having a cereal rambles party. We can each have our own box of GoLean and just sit there talking about how much we love it while stuffing our faces. Sound good?

My favorite part of blogging has definitely been making friends with similar interests. It’s hard to find people who love food and healthy living as much as I do, and while it’s totally fine that my real life friends aren’t into the same things as me, it’s nice to have people who gush over cereal as much as I do!!

balancejoyanddelicias March 19, 2011 at 5:04 am

Such a wonderful day you had and I love love your happy tone!!

I met my childhood friend yesterday and we chat for three hours nonstop! :)

Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) March 19, 2011 at 6:30 am

Aww…all of your feel good friday moments made for a feel good saturday moment for me. :D What a wonderful, wonderful day you had! :D

Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun March 19, 2011 at 7:18 am

How cool to be in the cookbook!

And I so have a cereal monster too. Love cereal!

Healthy Coconut March 19, 2011 at 8:44 am

I have the same problem with cereals, I can eat a lot but I don’t really feel satisfied. I am currently rotating between Quaker cereal squares and also the Kashi crunch. I usually eat them with greek yogurt too.

Love the note you added in the end about blogging. I really feel that this community gives so much and inpires so much, it’s a really great supportive group and most of the bloggers/readers involved we don’t get a chance to meet, but the support is there nevertheless. It’s like a virtual hug every day.

The Teenage Taste March 19, 2011 at 9:14 am

Congrats on being featured in the Xagave Cookbook! That’s amazing!

My favorite part of blogging is the ability to meet new people, exchange stories/advice, and find new recipes/workouts. I remember Julie from PBF saying one time that she thinks of blogs as TV shows and each post is another episode, which is exactly what I think. Blog reading is something I look forward to everyday! :]

kristastes March 19, 2011 at 10:10 am

That is so sweet of her to send you a goodie package :) I love jicama in salads! I once bought something else thinking it was jicama, before I knew what one looked like on the outside (i am a huge tool) and that didn’t taste so good in salad ha.

I agree about blogging…I do it because my friends and family love reading and it keeps everyone near and far updated on my life. Plus, I meet great blog friends like you!

Maren March 19, 2011 at 10:16 am

I am glad you enjoyed the package so much! Those pretzels are dangerous, I’m sure. I haven’t even tried them yet, but I have heard so much about them, I knew you’d like them! Hope Penny and Randy enjoy their treats, too! My favorite part about reading blogs is how I feel like I know you girls and get excited that I have connections with people so far away! :)

enjoyingthechaos March 19, 2011 at 12:06 pm

What made me feel great today was going to my step son’s lacrosse games and watching him and my two little ones run around and enjoy this beautful weather we are having…oh and I pounded out 4 miles on the loop around the fields!! YAY me…

What I love best about reading blogs..is all the wonderful stuff I learn that I never would have had I not been reading…

Oh, and I saw a pair of owl earrings and my first thought was..Janetha would love these!!! lol..

Ellie March 19, 2011 at 1:39 pm

O man that looks soo goood!! :P Hmmm one thing that I feel good (although sad) about is that I was able to comfort my sister this morning and help her see things from a diff. perspective after she had argued with her husband…it’s sad, but I’m glad I was there for her. Have a beautiful saturday!!

Amanda March 19, 2011 at 3:35 pm

I am a weird person because I LOVE cereal but not with milk so much. I would love the kashi, banana, chobani and splash of almond meal version. YUM! I like mixing cereals and adding in granola too. It bulks it up a bit and fills me up.

That owl card. Too cute!!!!

Pure2raw twins March 19, 2011 at 4:53 pm

We agree with you that the best part of blogging is the friendship created and learning knew things :) We are so glad that we are friends with you, I hope one day that I will get to meet you since Michelle already did, haha It is only fair right ;)

Annabel @ www.FeedMeImCranky.com March 19, 2011 at 11:06 pm

those pretz are my favorite!!!! glad you got a feel-good note :D

BroccoliHut March 20, 2011 at 8:00 am

One thing that made me feel good=the 80 degree weather!
My favorite part of blogging is the incredible support and advice I get for any decision. I LOVE my blog friends!

That HANDmade Card is SO cute!!! I love the owls on it! I love making cards over buying them. :)
