in meals

i may not be a football lover, but i am definitely a packers fan by default through marriage.

can i just tell you i am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy that the packers won the superbowl? countless sundays of marshall’s mood for the following week being determined by whether the packers won or lost.. and it all paid off, because they are the champs.

phew. that was close. thank you for winning, packers, you made my life a lot better.

kristen & rory are amazing and made a packers cheese shaped cake.. isn’t it fantastic??

i was impressed with their skills!

everyone was having fun watching the big game.

i made a few snacks for the game.. not many, because there were only a few of us and i have mastered the talent of not making wayyyy too much food.

apparently marshall & i were missing mexico, because all the eats were totally mexican themed.

i made chicken quesadillas~

i made some with whole wheat tortillas, too.

marshall made his famous guacamole and we served it with chips and mango salsa.

i also made some vegan taco soup.. i simply swapped the meat out of my recipe and replaced it with brown rice. the rice absorbed all the liquid and it became more of a taco chili rather than soup.

i had a bowl of taco soup/chili with a dollop of chobani greek yogurt, some guacamole, cheese and a couple quesadilla wedges.

avocados are so good right now!

i also made a batch of my vegan peanut butter bars for dessert.. but was too busy trying to understand football and didn’t get a photo.

i think i actually understand the game now! too bad the season is over. i hope i don’t forget everything i learned before next year.

before i go, i want to announce the winner of the alexia giveaway:

congrats, erin! send me your mailing address ASAP and i will get your loot shipped out to you. thanks to everyone who entered!

ugh. first day back to work after my lonnnng vacation. that’s going to be rough. to top it off, my boss asked me to go in early AKA 6:30 AM. guess i better call it a night!

i will be back next time with another mexico recap. don’t worry, once i finish all my recaps i will get back to the 30 day challenge. i haven’t forgotten.. it is just on pause.

good night!

did you watch the super bowl? who were you rooting for? or did you just watch it for the commercials?

one more thing.. that half time show was HORRIBLE!

I was rooting for the Packers in spirit even though I didn’t watch… I’m grateful for the sake of your happy marriage that they won! ;)

Momma B February 6, 2011 at 10:35 pm

I loved the game…..sort of a nail biter! I was cheering for the packers all the way wahoo!

I thought the half time was awful because I’m old…….guess not…haha! xo

Momma B February 6, 2011 at 10:40 pm

P.S. you and the cheese hat—–priceless!! Love you!

marisa February 6, 2011 at 10:44 pm

I live right off of the “Avocado Freeway!” You must come visit and eat some avocados here… The halftime show was fun for us to watch because the girls sang along… and who doesn’t love a four year old singing Black Eyed Peas songs? And Sofi LOVED the hearts! But I agree, I have seen better!

Rose February 6, 2011 at 10:50 pm

I went to a super bowl party, but spent the time eating, watching commercials, and being stupid.

I love that you just got back from Mexico and still want Mexican food. When my husband and I got back from Italy (for our honeymoon), we didn’t eat Italian for a month.

Runeatrepeat February 6, 2011 at 11:01 pm

I love the commercials!

TheNewHealthy February 6, 2011 at 11:20 pm

Ohh, vegan peanut butter bars? I’m totally making those this week! I didn’t watch the Superbowl! It’s a sin, I know! ;)

edenseats February 6, 2011 at 11:27 pm

1) I wrote a post about my super bowl loathe, you dont need to read it but in the gist of it was that I think high def tv is better suited for porn
2) Half time show sucked! dude, with all due respect to the Black Eyes Peas, they cannot for the life of them sing live! Its too techno and whatnot.
3) Christina Aguilera forgot the words to the national anthem, that was my high light
4) I think what I like most about the super bowl is minimal traffic!
ok enough numbers!

MelissaNibbles February 7, 2011 at 2:33 am

Go Packers! Life is going to be much easier in your house with the win ;)

J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) February 7, 2011 at 3:21 am

Love the cheese hats! I’ve wanted one ever since I first saw them.

I was rooting for awesome commercials, but there wasn’t that many! lol

Cathy K February 7, 2011 at 4:12 am

wasn’t that a great game?! i ended up getting into more than i thought i would – just wanted to see exciting football, and we got that. so happy that your/marshall’s team won (i ended up cheering on the packers, too!)
great job on the super bowl food and hosting! what a fun time with friends.
halftime show? yup. disappointed. please do not do guns n roses again, fergie.
GOOD LUCK with back to work. always a stress the first day!….

Lauren February 7, 2011 at 4:43 am

YAY!!!! I was rooting for the Packers because, one I HATE the Steelers, and two, I LOVE Marshall! :)

Erika February 7, 2011 at 4:57 am

I didn’t really watch the game (only the commercials.) But I was pretty bummed the Steelers lost – that’s my Dad’s favorite team! :/

Katie February 7, 2011 at 5:03 am

I thought of you guys when the Packers won of course, christina messed up the national anthem and looked like a hot mess, halftime show sucked so bad, dorito commercials were funny, especially the pug one!

Love ya girl! Have a good first day back from work, Mondays stink : p xoxo

Abby February 7, 2011 at 5:27 am

I love your hat and figured that even if you didn’t understand the game, you guys would at least have a kick-ass party with great food. Even though I like sports, I’m usually more interested in what’s in my bowl than the Super Bowl itself.

But with that said, Go Packers!

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine February 7, 2011 at 5:39 am

Confession: I didn’t watch the game. Although I’m glad the Packers won, because I hate the Steelers (and all Pittsburgh sports, really…and Pittsburgh in general). Usually I’ll only watch sports if there’s really good food involved, so I probably would have had I been at your house :)

Paige is Running Around Normal February 7, 2011 at 5:50 am

I am def not a Packers fan (Bear’s fan here) but am glad for your sake (and a BFF that’s a fan) that they won :) Love reading your vaca recaps!! :)

Matt @ The Athlete's Plate February 7, 2011 at 6:06 am

I watched the half time show and that was it. So much homework :(

Heather February 7, 2011 at 6:18 am

i actually missed the entire first half because i fell asleep from sickness…but i definitely wanted to watch the game. i’m weird like that :)

withasideofhope February 7, 2011 at 6:24 am

I just watched for the halftime show and the commercials. I’m glad that the Packers won though! I’m from the Philly area and here we love the Eagles so it wouldn’t have been good if the Steelers won! :)

coffeeandthepaper February 7, 2011 at 6:42 am

Haha the halftime show was pretty bad. We mocked Fergie for a good 10 minutes though which was kind of fun! Usher’s cutie patootie was the one redeeming quality.

I hope with the Packers winning Marshall will be in good spirits until preseason of next year!

fittingbackin February 7, 2011 at 6:58 am

aw big day for you cheeseheads! So cute! I watched a bit but yes, mostly for commercials – loved both VW ones!

Sarah February 7, 2011 at 7:07 am

i think i scared all of my friends while watching the game yesterday. i was cheering for the PACKERS of course! i don’t think they’ve ever seen such intensity from me before…! but hooray! we won. :)

i agree. horrible halftime show. and sweet child of mine? fergie should NOT have gone there.

Holly at Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices February 7, 2011 at 7:07 am

YAY YAY YAY! I was SOOO Happy for you – yes, definitely thought of you & Marshall the whole time :) He sounds just like Craig- where the outcome of the game affects his mood for the entire week/ month/ etc- depending on the significance of the game! I’m sooooo glad it was green & yellow. They made my month too :)

Meg February 7, 2011 at 7:09 am

Chicka chicka yeahhh Packers! I had to cheer for them cause the party I went to was ALL Packer’s fans. Not a prob, though! That cake is beautiful, so creative!

movesnmunchies February 7, 2011 at 7:54 am

ahh i love al this superbowl hype, but im so far away from it all!! oh well.. go packers!

actorsdiet February 7, 2011 at 8:03 am

yay – glad your team won! i watched – kinda – i mostly ate and socialized. i’m not into football.

Caitlin February 7, 2011 at 8:07 am

I was rooting for the steelers just because Im from Wisconsin so I wanted to rebel ;). I actually don’t even like football I was just watching for the half time show and I have to agree- I thought it was really bad :(. It seemed like there was alot of malfunctions.

lowandbhold February 7, 2011 at 8:32 am

I watched, ish. I was kind of rooting for the Packers because I thought they deserved the win.

Freckled Foodie February 7, 2011 at 8:40 am

teehee. congrats to marshall! :) and you, by default!

thedelicateplace February 7, 2011 at 9:20 am

thankfully nate isn’t a die hard fan or i would have had mr. grumpy pants on my hands. some fans burned a couple couches a few blocks from our new place and that was about the extent of the angry behavior lol. black eyed peas were a total assault on my ears. holy suck fest. also, fergie+slash? randomz.

Little Miss Fitness February 7, 2011 at 9:29 am

I am totally a Packers fan by default as well! My father-in-law is from Green Bay and therefore that makes my husband a big time Packers fan. :) Loved the Darth Vader VW commercial…disliked the half-time show…and decided I’m not the best person for my husband to watch the game with! :) He told me he had a bad feeling during the 3rd quarter and I said, “Just because you have a feeling doesn’t mean it will determine the winner of the game.” Then we laughed. :)

Salah February 7, 2011 at 10:06 am

YAY PACKERS!!!!!!!!!! What a great game!!!!

Laura (LunaChickRuns) February 7, 2011 at 10:23 am

I’m in Wisconsin, so it was THE PACK all the way!! Woohoo what a great game!!

Holly February 7, 2011 at 10:40 am

GREENANDYELLOWGREENANDYELLOWGREENANDYELLOWGREENANDYELLOW {!!!} i am so excited the Pack won, probably more for Marshall than for myself. i am also SO glad that you had an amazing time in Mexico. i am pretty much sitting here at my computer cursing my life because i want to be somewhere warm instead of looking outside my office window and seeing MORE snow. ugh. over it.

you look cute in that cheesehead.

Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather February 7, 2011 at 11:00 am

That is the cutest cake ever! I made some vegan chili for dinner during the game. Brown rice would have been so good in that too.

Mama Pea February 7, 2011 at 11:04 am

How am I just hearing about these peanut butter bars? That ain’t right.

janetha February 7, 2011 at 1:55 pm

you have to make them. my vegan boys say they are the favorite thing i make.. and i make them a lot of things! the photos from my recipe page are crap since they are from when i first started my blog.. but you really have to make them. and obviously use earth balance instead of blue bonnet light. i have come a long way since my blue bonnet days. blech.

Kailey (SnackFace) February 7, 2011 at 11:11 am

JANEEEEEETHA!!!!! So, on your vacation, I spent a couple hours catching up on all your posts. OH HOW I MISSED YOU! I’m so sorry for yet another absence–getting used to the working routine, ya know!

ANYWAY. I semi-watched the super bowl. OMG HALFTIME SHOW. I don’t know what it’s like to have to perform in front of millions, but that was bad. Fergie sounded crazy.

Wub you!

mary (whats cookin with mary) February 7, 2011 at 11:12 am

We watched the SB at a friends house who is a HUGE steelers fan and since I don’t follow football, I became a steelers fan by default. When that guy (haha see I don’t know what the heck is going on) miss the 2nd pass (I think? lol!!) my friend Justin said ‘and that’s game right there’ w.i the first few monutes of the game… BOOO! But YAYAYAYAYAY! for Marshall!! :D

The commercials this year were pretty SO SO… but the dorrito commercial had all the guys screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOO HAHAH!

julie February 7, 2011 at 11:22 am

yayy i’m so happy for you and more for marsh hahaha :) you must come to the east side for a football party hosted by deej and i next year. i’ll even let marsh bring his famous guac because its green for the jets ;)

Katy (The Singing Runner) February 7, 2011 at 11:25 am

I kind of watched the game….I was doing homework at the same time.

Halftime was awful! I wanted to cry. ;)

Katie February 7, 2011 at 11:59 am

Mmm, you’re right…I’m currently eating an avocado and it’s so good! They are awesome right now.

I rooted for the steelers because my cousin is Troy Polamalu (Steeler’s safety) – but to be honest, I didn’t care that much. Glad Marshall (and in turn, you) was happy with the outcome! :-)

melissadishes February 7, 2011 at 12:34 pm

awesome cake! Glad ya’ll had a good time :-)

I didn’t watch many of the commercials, but I loved the Dorito’s finger licking guy

s-anne February 7, 2011 at 1:14 pm

GOPACKGO!!!!!!! Watched every minute, and was on the edge of my seat the whole time!! Couldn’t not watch, one of my dearest friends plays for them–gotta root for his team!!!!
Not to mention, the Superbowl was played in my hometown–Go Dallas!!

The Groupon commercials were pretty hilarious, as was the Doritos finger licking one…hahah!!

Krista February 7, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Looks like I’m in the minority here, but I loved the halftime show!! Maybe it’s because I’m a HUGE fan of BEPs…or maybe I just hate football so much that the music/lights/dancing was MUCH more entertaining to me than the game!! haha :)

Maureen February 9, 2011 at 3:17 pm

Just stumbled across your blog – Wisconsinite/Packer fan. I curse at the tv like a sailor. It’s funny, cause no one would see that in me. Enjoy your writing – and the vacation photos . . . spring is a long way off and I’m so sick of winter!

Take care

janetha February 9, 2011 at 3:21 pm

Thanks for your comment, Maureen! Maybe if you grab a cocktail and fill your bathtub with sand you can pretend like you are at the beach? Probably won’t work.. but sure would be nice :)
