christmas cookie decorating is a tradition my family started last year.

the cookie tradition was my idea. and it is much warmer. and it’s fun!

family get together and watch movies!

Denise December 24, 2010 at 9:54 am

We have a family tradition of buying each child a new ornament that summarizes or has something to do with their past year. We save them in each kids personal ornament box. When they grow up they will have a small start for their own tree. My folks did the same for my sis and I and to this day I LOVE going back over all my ornaments and sharing their significance.
happy Holidays!

Tw December 24, 2010 at 9:54 am

How do short legged dogs get in SO much trouble? Do they use a step ladder? ha
B/c our kids were born in Idaho and we lived there for 8 yrs we make tater sop with heavy cream, bacon drippings, cheese/crackers and REAL GLASS bottled cokes! My kids think that is tops b/c of real sugar cokes(from Costco)! Enjoy your holidays!

Katie December 24, 2010 at 9:56 am

Even though I am 18 years old, I still come down the steps on Christmas morning to find my stocking under the tree…and usually my mom still films and takes pictures. It’s not as fun since my older brother and sister aren’t there to see their stockings with me, but it’s still tradition. I am sure one of these days soon (when I am out of college), I won’t be doing it anymore. So, I might as well cherish it while it lasts. :)

janetha @ meals & moves December 24, 2010 at 10:12 am

We still do that too :) I’m the youngest of 4 at 27 yrs old. My mom still does that!

Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) December 24, 2010 at 10:04 am

Di December 24, 2010 at 10:05 am

Cookie decorating looks like fun! And I’m pretty amazed that Randy managed to get those jars down from the shelf.

My extended family gets together on Christmas Eve. Usually we do a Yankee Swap, but we always eat good food, drink delicious drinks, and just enjoy each others’ company. My uncle usually puts together a photo/video slideshow with pictures and movies from Christmases past and so we get to hear a lot of stories from when my mom, aunts, and uncles were all younger. It’s generally the same stories year in and year out but they’re always fun to hear.

Merry Christmas!

runyogarepeat December 24, 2010 at 10:06 am

Matt December 24, 2010 at 10:27 am

I WILL win this one ;)

One tradition we have is to go to a movie on christmas day after dinner. We are going to see that new Fockers movie tomorrow. LOL.

purplebirdblog December 24, 2010 at 10:39 am

You’ve got to set up a video camera for the dog shenanigans. Seriously.

My family would always drive around and look at lights (warm car heater FTW) and then open one gift on xmas eve. And then we would eat our weight in boiled shrimp on Christmas. :)

Stephanie Berg December 24, 2010 at 10:43 am

Teri [a foodie stays fit] December 24, 2010 at 10:58 am

Your nieces and nephews are darling. And your mom is beautiful! (Have I told you that she looks SO familiar to me?) I love the tradition of making cookies with the family. I think my fam should too that too…although maybe it would be too crazy with like a dozen nieces/nephews or whatever count we’re at now.

Our tradition is to have a Christmas program on Christmas eve. The kiddos do the nativity, my mom and I play a musical number (me-piano, her-flute) and my dad read’s the story from the bible. I’m sad I’m missing it this year! Thanks for helping me reminisce though! :)

Merry Christmas Eve! <3

Amy December 24, 2010 at 10:58 am

we also decorate cookies on christmas!

ezzie December 24, 2010 at 11:00 am

Every Christmas we get 3 new ornaments (for me and my two brothers) and we have a big Christmas morning breakfast but not before we read the birth story of Jesus :)

Sweet Cheeks December 24, 2010 at 11:35 am

We have sparkling apple juice, but we drink it out of wine glasses every Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner! It’s our lame tradition lol

Leighanne December 24, 2010 at 11:38 am

Every Christmas Eve we have a seafood feast. My nonna used to be in charge of it, but now my mom and I take the lead (but nonna still makes the fresh pasta for our sauce!!!)

Merry Christmas Janetha!!!

rebecca December 24, 2010 at 11:55 am

monica December 24, 2010 at 12:24 pm

thedelicateplace December 24, 2010 at 12:26 pm

my family watches a christmas story on christmas eve (hi tbs marathon) and then on christmas day we open presents and sit down to a nice big breakfast

Amanda December 24, 2010 at 12:29 pm

Every Christmas Morning we open up our presents one by one and for just the 4 of us (plus our pets lol) it takes like 3 hours, but we LOVE it. It’s our fave 3 hours of the year :). My fave part isn’t getting my own presents, but watching everyone else open theirs and seeing how much they love them. I LOVE picking out presents.

JW December 24, 2010 at 12:34 pm

My Mom still leaves out presents from Santa for my brother and I to wake up to on Christmas morning…and I’m 25:)

Haylee December 24, 2010 at 12:40 pm

My hubby and I sleep next to the Chirstmas tree on Christmas eve, watch A Christmas Story, and then in the morning make each other wait in the bedroom while we set out our Chirstmas presents for a surprise!

Diana December 24, 2010 at 12:54 pm

We make the same Roasted Fig Glaze Salmon on Christmas day each year, and it’s amazing! My family all looks forward to it, and it’s a nice way of bringing us all together

Rachel @ Healthy Teacher December 24, 2010 at 1:15 pm

Our Christmas tradition was walking through the Christmas lights with my father on Christmas Eve in McAdenville, NC (known as “Christmastown”). This year, we are in California and can’t go home because we spent all the money we saved up going home for my dad’s funeral in October. First Christmas away from home and without dad….and there are no Christmas lights here. My husband and I are keeping positive and thinking of new traditions to start. (It’s not quite as cold in NC as in Utah;)

Rachael Adele December 24, 2010 at 1:39 pm

Since I’m Jewish, our family tradition is to see a movie and eat Chinese food on Christmas. We always run into all the other Jews in town, too!

jen December 24, 2010 at 1:46 pm

cookies! it used to be a family thing. now it’s a my job thing. they just enjoy the fruits of my labor.

melissadishes December 24, 2010 at 2:12 pm

One of our biggest holiday traditions is we celebrate everything on Christmas Eve, always have. church, special dinner, gifts.

We also have a holiday family day in a town between where parents and where my sister and I live, that’s always the first Saturday of December

Christmas day, we have a turkey lunch/dinner. Maybe even go to the movies.

Jessica December 24, 2010 at 2:28 pm

my sister and i always get to open one gift from our parents on christmas eve- matching pajama pants : )

Leena December 24, 2010 at 2:44 pm

The Boy and I made our own tradition: no gifts, just stocking stuffers. That way we get lots of little treats and toys, and no big stuff taking up room in our teeny weeny Brooklyn apartment. We also do a stocking for our dog, and I swear, she gets ALL the coolest gifts.

erin December 24, 2010 at 3:00 pm

Some family traditions we have are shopping for a Christmas tree together. This year my sister and I left the kids at home with the hubs and tagged along with our parents to get their tree. Then a few days later we put our kids to bed and headed to the rents house to decorate it. It is always a lot of fun to see all the decorations from when we were kids.

Erica D December 24, 2010 at 3:00 pm

My mom plays flute professionally, so every Christmas Eve we do a marathon of church services. It can get tedious, but it’s actually really refreshing to hop around from party to service and back again. Plus it gives me a lot of time to think good thoughts!

Runeatrepeat December 24, 2010 at 3:04 pm

One of our traditions is to get super wasted and fight with each other on Christmas Eve. Oh, and someone has to fall.

eatrunlose December 24, 2010 at 3:14 pm

my family and I always watch “a christmas story”. i think my nephew wants a new tradition which is watching starwars on chrismas day. we did it last year, and he is already talking about it!

suki @ [Super Duper Fantastic] December 24, 2010 at 3:37 pm

Ryan and I are trying to start our own traditions. :) We put up our first tree this year. And we have our stockings. :)
