in meals

hey friends! my boss gave me tickets to go to the jazz game tonight. it’s the first home game of the season. while i despise football, i LOVE basketball! i am excited that we get to go see the game. hope they do better than they did against denver last night!

i had to share my breakfast & lunch with you guys solely because i purchased a cute halloween placemat. i know, how dweeby does that make me? that’s ok, no shame.

a story about my breakfast. i got to work, put my oatmeal to cook on the stove as i normally do, went up to my office and then completely forgot about my oats on the stove.  about 15 minutes later i was thinking about how hungry i was.. and then a light bulb clicked on. DING!

my oats are still on the stove!

so i RAN downstairs, only to smell the scorched oats. i cleaned the pot, apologized profusely to my co-workers and put another batch on to cook. a girl’s gotta eat.

i went back upstairs and my boss called me into his office to discuss some things, including aforementioned jazz tickets. before i knew it, i realized that i had, ONCE AGAIN, forgotten about my oats cooking on the stove.

i ran downstairs AGAIN and, well, you know the drill. put another pot on and STAYED downstairs..

finally, third time’s a charm.

vanilla protein oats topped with justin’s chocolate hazelnut butter.

after all, today is national chocolate day!

lunch was leftover chicken puffs & broccoli.

guys! chicken puffs are the best. i can’t believe i went so long without them in my life!

i bet you are super scared by my placemat. no? marshall said i can only buy halloween decorations that are scary, not cute. i don’t think he would agree that the placemat fits the bill, but it’s cute.. and i LIKE cute.. so i bought it anyway.

after work, i did susan’s lead legs lower body workout. you guys have to try it! it’s killer and i can’t wait to have to be pushed around in a wheelchair tomorrow because my legs will be so sore.

oh, i bet you all want to know the winner of the real simple magazine subscription giveaway!

drumroll please…

congrats! email me your mailing address ASAP and your subscription will be on its merry way.

thanks to everyone who entered. i think i will make giveaway entry requirements like that more often. it was so fun to read why you love your lives. seriously, i enjoyed all 168 entries. thank you, thank you.

well, that’s really all i have to tell you about today. i know, boring, but something is better than nothing, right?

and because i love natalie dee and hate candy corn:

and because i love natalie dee and fall attire:

and just because i love natalie dee:

i’ll be back tomorrow, you can bet your ass it will be a halloween flashback friday!

1. halloween decorations: cant they be cute or do they have to be scary?

Are you kidding me?! YESSSSSSS!

Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) October 28, 2010 at 7:12 pm

Congrats Jessica !! :)

We have mostly scary decorations… I’m pretty sure it is bc I let the boys decide what we get. lol

Yesterday I made a double chocolate recovery shake after spin… was oh-so-chocolatey … reminded me of a frosty, but with darker chocolate YUM

Liz @ Blog is the New Black October 28, 2010 at 7:14 pm

I prefer cute to scary… but I like your placemat!!!!!

I made red velvet choc chip cookies today… and mint cc cupcakes tonight… just celebratin’ chocolate day!!!!

Erica October 28, 2010 at 7:27 pm

hahaha that story about your oats cracked me up :) Third times totally a charm. Love the place mat- very cute! Have fun at the game!

1. halloween decorations: cant they be cute or do they have to be scary? totally can be cute!

2. happy national chocolate day! what is the most recent way you enjoyed chocolate? hmmm…I’m not really a chocolate person (I KNOW!). I had a little when I sampled my cookies today October 28, 2010 at 7:58 pm

I love your placemats!! I think Halloween decorations can be cute! I enjoyed chocolate at lunch today. White chocolate dove pieces. So good!! Everyday is national chocolate day in my life! Have fun at the Jazz game!

kristastes October 28, 2010 at 7:58 pm

I love those cartoons :) they made me laugh out loud, especially the candy corn one!

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) October 28, 2010 at 8:05 pm

Yay Jessica!

OK can I just say that candy corn must be the only sugar product I don’t like. It’s shocking, but true.

I love that recycled photo of you with the glasses- one of my faves.

One more thing: I’ve never forgotten about food ever- not even in a tsunami warning, so I totally do not understand your oatmeal amnesia, even while talking to the boss!!!! :-D

simplyshaka October 28, 2010 at 8:12 pm

I love Natalie Dee! Sometimes I will go on there for hours on end doing random search just to see what comes up.

I love the placemat–I am all about the cute stuff plus who wants to see blood and gore on a placemat when they eat? Not me.

ezzie October 28, 2010 at 8:22 pm

cute halloween decorations all the wayy! :)
& this morning I had the most delicious bowl of baked chocolate oats and later in the afternoon one of my classmates surprised the class with some kick-ass fudge. mmm fudge…~

amanda October 28, 2010 at 8:36 pm

Scorched oats no good! At least you remembered them!

I love that chocolate hazelnut butter. So delicious!

And yes, so scary not cute at all to the placemat. ;)

Faith October 28, 2010 at 8:43 pm

Bahaha, I LOVE hyperbole and a half!

kbwood October 28, 2010 at 8:56 pm

how do you feel about that hazelnut butta? It is growing on me!!!

Runeatrepeat October 28, 2010 at 8:59 pm

You and I share a deep passion for Natalie Dee :) Love those ones!

purplebirdblog October 28, 2010 at 9:34 pm

Natalie Dee rocks my socks off, and I certainly share her sentiments about cardigans!

I ment to comment before, I love chicken puffs! Yours look much more neatly wrapped than mine. I’ll have to consult your tips next time I make them. That sucks about your oats, I hate when that happens!

I love your placemat! I’m not a huge fan of actual halloween (though I do like costumes) so I prefer cute decorations over scary ones. I’m kind of a weenie when it comes to scary stuff anyways.

elise October 28, 2010 at 11:46 pm

you dont like football!?!? this. is. tragic.

terrell October 29, 2010 at 12:01 am

Ha! You are so lucky you have an actual stove at your work on which to prepare healthy meals! I used to make my oats at home, put them in a glass container and then heat them up in the microwave at work.

Side note: I am a huge Natalie Dee fan.

Stefanie October 29, 2010 at 12:25 am

Haha I actually burned my oats this morning, but I was able to salvage them by just eating the top! So funny!

I was literally laughing out loud at those Natalie Dee pictures!! :)

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) October 29, 2010 at 7:18 am

i love natalie dee!

YES they can be cute! I love cute things way more than scary things.

and i tried rum chocolate with Nick yesterday… it was gross. too bad.

Teri [a foodie stays fit] October 29, 2010 at 7:44 am

hahahaha! Jessica’s winning comment is hilarious!

Nice job on the oats. heh heh. Hope you had fun at the Jazz game!

I like a mix of cute and scary Halloween decorations.

The last time I had chocolate was um…a handful of chocolate chips last night. No shame. :)

Freckled Foodie October 29, 2010 at 7:48 am

of COURSE they can be CUTE! :)

and my favorite ways to consume chocolate include dark chocolate dreams pb&co or vitatops. they NEVER disappoint ;)

lowandbhold October 29, 2010 at 9:02 am

I think I’m going to have some hot chocolate to celebrate soon, it’s cold up in here!

Love the cartoons!

Oh, and Halloween decor can totally be cute, but scary is fun too!

Nicole C. October 29, 2010 at 9:02 am

I prefer to keep cute inside the house and scary outside. Since I have no room to store decorations I don’t buy any :(

I used some chocolate protein powder in a shake the other day if that counts.

How do you like the chocolate hazelnut? I wonder it if is like nutella?

Katie October 29, 2010 at 9:28 am

HA! That oat thing is so something I would do. There was a period of about a week last year when literally every time I TOUCHED a wine glass- not even to drink from it!- it would break! I cleaned up a lot of glass last fall.

We’re having a Halloween party on Sunday so we’ll be putting up some fun decorations.

I had hot fudge last night!

thedelicateplace October 29, 2010 at 9:52 am

1. i love nat dee :)
2. i like my decor to be on the cuter side. gross/scary stuff makes it hard for me to want to eat around that stuff haha. i cannot eat whilst watching a horror flick. just cannot do it!
3. last night i had some chocolate coconut muffins and a couple pieces of dagoba eclipse yum! total pms craving but whatevs. i listen!

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine October 29, 2010 at 10:00 am

Hahahaha omg I love love love the last Natalie Dee picture. That is so Twitter…sometimes I reread my old tweets and am just astounded by how ridiculous I am.

I’m not much of a Halloween girl…I’d rather save my moolah for kick ass Christmas decorations!

thetwentyfifthyear October 29, 2010 at 10:05 am

Thank you for the literal LOL at those cartoons up there. I must check this woman out!

Also, I have enjoyed chocolate every morning for breakfast this week. What? It’s Halloween (week.)

kate October 29, 2010 at 10:24 am

Justins Chocolate Nut Butter would be the best way to celebrate Chocolate Day – too bad I ate my entire jar a few weeks ago! Hope you had a blast at the Jazz game!

Talia @ Texas Gunslinger October 29, 2010 at 10:42 am

I LOVE Natalie Dee!!!! ;)

Steph October 29, 2010 at 10:57 am

Yes for chocolate day – so much celebrating to do lol! My bet is I will wait until this weekend and enjoy my chocolate via pb cup :)

Tamizn October 29, 2010 at 1:14 pm

Chocolate orange protein ice cream is always a winner oh and the 2 or 4 giant pieces I ate yesterday after seeing your up date on facebook that it was national chocolate day! Thanks : ) x x

1970kikiproject October 29, 2010 at 2:47 pm

hope you had a great time at the game, janetha!
i like cute or scary hallowe’en decorations – as long as they’re original and look like some thought went into them. i like to be impressed!
last chocolate thing i ate was a myoplex lite mint chocolate protein mix – i only add enough water to make it like icing consistency, and it’s just like eating a bowl of icing!
happy hallowe’en weekend!!

julie October 29, 2010 at 3:42 pm

oh! i just caught up and those chicken puffs are amazing! deej would kill for them. can you come over and cook for her please? she’d probably want to adopt you :)

hahahahahaha total oatmeal fail man! i’m glad you got back on your horse though! i probably would have too or i would have just hit the microwave hard haha. hope you had fun at the jazz game!
