HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MOMMA B! TODAY IS THE DAY!!
please excuse my absence for the past couple days. i have been out living life.
i have pictures to prove it!
and for the sake of keeping a long post as short as possible, this will be mainly photos and minimal rambles :)
enjoy!
saturday.
saturday morning, marshall and i went to the farmers’ market to get things for my mom’s birthday dinner.
it was a lovely time at the market! as per usual.
momma b requested salmon & halibut for her dinner. i buy fish at one place and one place only: aquarius fish.
if you live in the SLC and need fish, this is where you need to go! it is on 300 south and about 350 west, right next to caputo’s deli. not only will you get the freshest fish in the city.. you will also get to see this stud:
cody is one of my best friends. he just so happens to slang fish for a living. it works out well.
we snagged our salmon and halibut, along with a jar of this:
i can’t wait to use it!
and then we were on our merry way. we headed to a birthday party for anakin, he’s one! i didn’t take photos at the party.. but i ate my weight in homemade beef jerky and it was fabulous.
after the party i went to momma b’s where she taught me the ways of making the perfect red waldorf (red velvet) cake.
i will be posting a recipe page for this sometime soon. turns out it is a very technical process and timing is very important when making this cake!
whew! finished product will be shown below.
after the cake shenanigans it was off to sushi with some girl friends. we went to my favorite: takashi.
guess what? we ordered the exact same rolls as the last time i went! what can i say, they are delicous.
T & T roll:
vegas roll:
sunshine roll:
yum.
good times!
sunday.
sunday we celebrated my mom’s birthday with a delicious dinner!
on the menu:
- salmon
- halibut
- chicken
- roasted red potatoes
- fresh fruit
- watermelon & basil salad
- rolls
- corn on the cob
DELICIOUS.
and then, of course, there was cake.
i ate my way around that frosting. you know me.
oh, one more photo. look what i got from sister in cali!
yay, i can’t wait to put this to use.
there you have it. billions of photos, hope i didn’t bore ya ;)
STATE FAIR TONIGHT! i cannot, cannot, CANNOT wait. it is the best part of september!!!
Qs~
1. what was the best thing you ate over the weekend?
2. if you eat fish, what is your favorite kind?

Happy belated bday to your Momma!
I don’t like fish, but I grill shrimp – I actually have a recipe for a lightened version of New Orleans bbq shrimp I’ve done on the grill – so good!

I also learned that those cedar planks that you used? They work best if you soak them overnight, otherwise they’ll burn before the fish cooks.
Looks like a perfect weekend!
happy bday mamma b :) looks like somebody likes icing!!
i have some of that pumpkin pesto, too– can’t wait to see how you use it :)
I’m so sorry this is late! Story of my life anymore…
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMA B!!! Looks like you guys had a fantastic celebration…she deserves it! :)
XOXO
Happy belated to your mommy!!!! This post actually made me super excited because my mom (and best friend too!) just booked flights to come visit next month :)
Love that you got the cedar planks going on the ‘cue. And even though I don’t like pumpkin, that pumpkin pesto still intrigues me!!
1. Hmmm… thinking back the one thing that really sticks out is the Simply Protein Oatmeal I had for breakfast on Sunday. Love me some oatmeal with the protein already in it :)
2. Favourite fish = maple smoked salmon. Amazing on freezer waffles with cream cheese and blueberry jam!
Hey Janetha
I was hoping you could post the recipe for the cake sometime soon? :)
My husbands b-day is october 19th and I want to make that for him?
Would it be possible?
