hello, friends! i know this is a late post for me.. but marshall is out with his friends and i don’t like going to sleep without him. plus our cable is on the fritz. and i am trying to avoid the cookies.
so, blogging it is!
i went out to eat twice today, for lunch and for dinner. one new-to-me location and one of my old favorites. let’s be honest, i am just glad i finally have something other than cookies and cereal to blog about ;)
the robin’s nest is a little sandwich shop on main street downtown. it is as cute as can be, i wish i had taken a photo from the outside. i love main street. in fact, we passed the robin’s nest while we were downtown taking our wedding photos! which, by the way, i STILL haven’t picked up. am i the worst bride ever? pretty sure you shouldn’t answer that.
i pulled this one from their website:
she’s gorgeous. she should be a sandwich model.
i ordered “The Gobbler”: “Year-Round Reason to be Thankful! Roasted Turkey Breast, Melted Provolone, Lettuce, Avocado, mayo and Robin’s Homemade Cranberry Spread on Ciabatta honey whole wheat.”
as well as a side salad: “The Papa”: “Assorted Spring Greens, Artichoke Hearts, Tomatoes, Black Olives, Sweet Red Onions, Marinated Mushrooms w/Balsamic Vinaigrette”
it should be known that they messed up the order and my mom’s sandwich is in the photo above, next to my salad. and my sandwich was next to her salad. but we eventually worked it out. after i snagged a bite of HER sandwich, of course.
my sandwich was fantastic. between the avocado and cranberry sauce, i didn’t even miss the mayo! in fact, i think mayo would have ruined it.
my salad was good, nothing to write home about. i did love the marinated mushrooms. they were hiding under the tomato.
my mom ordered “the Oinkity Doink”: “As Yummy as the Nephew it’s Named After!! Black Forest Ham, Tomato, Swiss, Mayo, Lettuce & Honey Dijon on Honey Wheat”
she told the employee that she was ordering it based solely on the name of the sandwich and how fun it was to say. ha!
she also got a side salad, “The Nutty Flora”: “Assorted Spring Greens, Sweet Red Grapes, Red Onion, Smoked Gouda, Candied Walnuts w/Cherry Vinaigrette”
the sandwich was delicious and my mom raved about it. she is not a big sandwich person but she said she would definitely be back for this one!
her salad was awesome. the candied walnuts were great and the dressing really was the best part. it had almond extract in there along with cherry flavor. SO good.
the robin’s nest was delicious and also had a fun, cute environment.
we will be back!
dinner was, as i said above, an old favorite. marshall was feeling mexican and so we headed to one of the best mexican joints in all of utah.
the red iguana. if you are ever in utah and you like mexican, you HAVE to go here.
i had skipped my afternoon snack and so by the time we got a table i was hangry. i devoured nearly a whole basket of delicious chips & salsa. they’re like crack, i tell you.
their salsa is spicy so i washed it down with a LOT of agua.
i ordered the chicken tacos which were served on corn tortillas with lettuce, tomatoes & olives. the chicken was marinated in tomato salsa. it came with black beans and an (unpictured) side of guac!
one thing i have learned from personal food blogging experience and from reading other food blogs.. mexican food photos NEVER do the food justice. it always looks like a big, blurry mess on a plate. don’t you agree?
but seriously, you guys, these tacos were PHENOMENAL. i usually get the enchiladas.. but tonight, tacos were a GREAT choice.
after dinner i came home and marshall left to hang with his friends. my parents came over to visit with me because my dad just got back in town from a week-long catch & release fly fishing trip.
they helped re-arrange the furniture in the living room and we took some measurements for a rug and coffee table. once the room is done, i will be sure to post before and afters.
they stayed pretty late, so i didn’t end up doing anything tonight. i know.. friday night and home alone? oh well, i guess that is part of being old and married ;)
before i go, i want to take a more serious turn and tell you guys thanks again for your concern about me and my situation. each comment has made my heart grow and your positive vibes are felt from all directions. and guess what? prayers work. i can’t go into detail, but let’s just say that what happened was going to be a permanent, life long problem for me and my family. thanks to many, many prayers (at least that is what i believe), something has happened that will eventually allow things to get better and for the issues to heal. while they aren’t all better yet, (it’s complicated), there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it gives me hope. i know it sounds indirect and confusing.. but i couldn’t go without thanking you all for your positive affirmations and prayers. i truly believe it has helped remedy the situation. so thank you. so much :)
well, enough sap out of me! i have big plans tomorrow: farmers’ market, a birthday party for the cutest one year old around, and i am learning how to bake my very first red waldorf (red velvet) cake! i am so excited.
momma b’s birthday is on monday so we will be celebrating with the family on sunday. i am in charge of cooking.. so of course you can look forward to that menu.
oh, and hey, i might even lift some weights sometime this weekend! shocking, i know. but i am going through lifting withdrawals!
ONE LAST THING: as of today, i have made the decision to attend the 2nd annual foodbuzz festival! i wasn’t sure i could swing it due to $$$, but i have decided that it is TOTALLY worth it. i had so much fun last year! so now i want to know: who is going to be there?!?
1. what was the last meal you ate in a restaurant? did you love it enough to order again? i am glad i tried a new dish at the red iguana! i had never had the tacos before. i will for sure order them again.. they were great.
2. do you like mayo? what about miracle whip? blech, i HATE miracle whip. but i don’t mind mayo. if it is in something, i will eat it. but i typically leave it off of things. i would rather get hot and heavy with the mustard ;) which is ironic, because as a child, i was a mayo fiend and hated mustard!
