that’s a wrap.

in meals

hello again! hope your monday is coming along quite nicely. i am going to finish recapping my arizona trip. then maybe i will eventually get to finishing my wedding & honeymoon recaps. so much to recap, so little time. saturday morning we woke up and ate at the hotel’s cafe. i didn’t take my camera, but i ate some overpriced, dry, gross french toast and an over medium egg. i am sure you can use your imagination for that. we cleaned up and then it was off to kristen’s graduation! the main event!

IMG_0024

she was a gorgeous graduate and i am SO proud of her. way to go, kris!

image

after the graduation we all went to a mexican restaurant called tia rosa. i loved the decor. such a cute place.

IMG_0048 IMG_0053 IMG_0062

SO many salsas! spicy, fruity, beany.. you name it. i like how they had the “heat scale” for each one. i like moderate heat when it comes to salsa, but anything too spicy ruins the flavor for me.

IMG_0057

i was super hungry due to the lack of a proper breakfast, so i decided to eat my weight in chips & salsa.

IMG_0063

with my new mexican last name, i find it completely appropriate to eat 5 baskets of chips and salsa. embrace it, right ;)

for my entree, i ordered a stuffed chicken quesadilla. i filled up on the chips & salsa so i only managed to conquer half of this bad boy. it was SO tasty. i definitely would eat at tia rosa time and time again.

IMG_0064

amigos!

IMG_0061

<3

IMG_0066

after our early dinner, we went back to the hotel to relax. kristen and i left the boys behind and made a trip to the best place on earth.. trader joe’s! no photos.. but i did spend nearly $100 on glorious trader joe’s goodies :)

we went back to the hotel and, can you believe it, i was STILL so full from the mexican food. 5 hours later! but, like i always say, there is always room for ice cream ;)

IMG_0087

gotta love the self serve froyo.

IMG_0086

check out the GIANT size!

IMG_0070

we opted for the smaller sized containers.

IMG_0071

toppings galore!

IMG_0073 IMG_0074

weigh and pay!

IMG_0075

i went with a mixture of plain tart, blueberry & vanilla. topped with peaches, graham cracker crumbs & coconut.

IMG_0077

i could have easily dominated one of the huge containers of froyo. just saying. IMG_0084

ice cream. favorite. food. ever.

IMG_0080

the next morning we hit the road pretty early. we did stop at the good egg for breakfast. i got 1/2 of a sunrise benedict (turkey, avocado, tomato & a poached egg on an english muffin) and a couple little whole wheat pancakes. and then we were on the road ALL. DAY. LONG. ick.  we stopped at subway for lunch.. i hate subway. it’s official.

it was so nice to finally get home to the kiddos!! they missed us :) what was not so nice was going back to work monday morning.. but, as the saying goes, such is life. it was a great trip! thanks to kristen for inviting us to share her special graduation trip with her. so proud. i’ll be back soon, i’m sure.

Qs~

Favorite food ever, burritos! I’m such a nerd but I could eat them everyday! I would think frozen yogurt is a close 2nd though. Even did some research into opening my own store.

I’m not a spicy salsa fan, I like the fire roasted kind and medium at the max.

lindsay August 9, 2010 at 11:25 am

TIA ROSA!! We used to have a ton of those in TX but not anymore. Bummer. They do have quite the array of salsa’s. I like mine medium. The hubs likes everything SPICY!!

Favorite food- never get sick of sushi. I could eat it everyday, but I don’t. kinda $$ on the wallet.

Nothing feels better than home sweet home with the pups. :)

Cathy K August 9, 2010 at 11:27 am

favourite food ever = cereal and milk: at least 4-6 kinds in the bowl and not too much milk. yummers.

salsa = mild. the thicker and chunkier the better!

have to laugh at your subway comment – i had subway on the way home from the beach a couple weeks ago and declared that i can’t stand subway!! glad i’m not alone!!

Katie August 9, 2010 at 11:28 am

Such a fun weekend! I would love to go to Arizona…Utah too, of course! =P I’ve been to Nevada, but just to Las Vegas..all that crazy living stuff just isn’t my thing, you know?

Favorite food ever? Frozen yogurt or ice cream is definitely up there on the list, but hands down it’s peanut butter. Peanut butter plain, peanut butter on EVERYDAMNTHANG! :D

Angharad August 9, 2010 at 11:29 am

I hate sub-par breakfasts! They bother me more than sub-par any other meal! That mexican extravaganza looks 100% legit though…I like your style. I also ALWAYS fill up on chips and salsa…such is life.

Love you!

Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday August 9, 2010 at 11:31 am

I love that picture of you and your hubby.

Jessica @ How Sweet August 9, 2010 at 11:32 am

Probably bacon. I adore it. Surprise, huh?

Texas Gunslinger August 9, 2010 at 11:35 am

That Mexican restaurant looked muy bueno! I grew up in San Antonio, TX so I *know* good Mexican food. Sadly, now that I live in Pittsburgh, I’ve only had Mexican once because its sacrilegious to eat it here otherwise HA!

My favorite food ever is sushi. I tried it for the first time when I was 25 and haven’t been the same since *tear* Other than that, choco+ PB anything and I’ll call it my fav, too:)

Again, being from TEXAS, I love spicy foods! As long as it’s not spicy enough to make me cry, I’m all in! :)

Gina G August 9, 2010 at 11:41 am

idk what my favorite food is ( im big on savory…such as veggie omelets!), but my favorite dessert is FORSURE ice cream and frozen yogurt!!!

and i am a mild gal when it comes to salsa

:)

melissadishes August 9, 2010 at 11:47 am

Love your trip recap :-)

I LOVE FroYo. We try to go a few times a month, if there was a place in our city, we’d probably go alot more!

I like my salsa SPICY. I wasn’t always a spice lover, developed that in my 20’s. My favorite salsas are the spicy smokey ones, like from Vivo in Austin or Paloma Blanca in San Antonio. Green chile salsas make me happy too!

melissadishes August 9, 2010 at 11:48 am

My favorite food…hmmm, probably Mexican food. I love it most, but I can’t eat it all of the time

plamarie August 9, 2010 at 11:53 am

Favorite Food would be mexican for sure! chips and salsa; complete bliss, I tell ya! Your dilla looked great!

Jenny August 9, 2010 at 12:01 pm

I’m with you on the ice cream. I’m shamelessly addicted to it. I’ll be honest I’m not a big salsa fan, mainly because I’m not a big tomato fan…

Erica August 9, 2010 at 12:11 pm

Great eats. Love Mexican…chips with salsa is my weakness! And froyo…self serve? Rocks.

1. what is your FAVORITE. FOOD. EVER.? oh gosh….frozen yogurt, chips and salsa….fresh fruit!

2.how spicy do you prefer your salsa? I’m a medium gal as well

MelissaNibbles August 9, 2010 at 12:12 pm

Congrats Kris!

My fave food is mac and cheese…or frosting…I hate salsa.

lisaou11 August 9, 2010 at 12:28 pm

I’m loving your hair these days.

and spicier the better for me :)

myFOODevents August 9, 2010 at 12:29 pm

We totally need a self serve froyo place here in Wisconsin!

kristastes August 9, 2010 at 12:44 pm

my favorite foods are ice cream and ribs! I like my salsa hot hot hot :)

kbwood August 9, 2010 at 12:57 pm

favorite food ever?! THAT IS SO HARD!! prob steak. I LOVE STEAK. omgshhh. and froyo- I love froyo so much!!
LOVE self serve!! It ROCKS. I wish i had one near my escuela!

Carbzilla August 9, 2010 at 1:04 pm

I am beyond sad that we don’t have “weigh your own” Fro-yo places up here. SmoothieGirl Deb and I DOMINATED them in the desert!

Cherry pie a la mode will always be my favorite food. Thatsa food, right?

lowandbhold August 9, 2010 at 1:13 pm

Congrats to Kristen on her graduation!

I always chow on the chips and salsa. I just can’t help it.

Favorite food ever is probably pizza. Ice cream is up there though.

I like my salsa either really spicy, or with no spice at all but lots of fresh, chunky tomato and cilantro.

Enjoy the rest of your day dear!

actorsdiet August 9, 2010 at 1:31 pm

oh that is very difficult, to pick one food? probably sandwiches.

LC @ Let Them Eat Lentils August 9, 2010 at 2:00 pm

Hm, maybe avocados. If I don’t get an avocado at least once a week, I start to go through withdrawal …

Rachael August 9, 2010 at 2:56 pm

Favorite food ever – have to go with almond butter sandwiches on earthy, peasanty bread, preferably with apricot or blackberry jam. Very specific.
In my mind, there is no point to salsa unless it is very, very hot. Then again, this is coming from someone who is looking to get her paws on a ghost chili, just for the experience. Irish white girl genes be damned – I like my food spicy, not boiled..

TheKetchupDiaries August 9, 2010 at 3:12 pm

Okay, fine, if I have to pick one: french fries and ketchup. BUT, I don’t find this question fair because I like sweet and savory foods the same and can’t compare!

I like heat, but I agree that sometimes things are so spicy that it takes away the flavor!

Naomi(onefitfoodie) August 9, 2010 at 3:35 pm

ohh that looks like such traditional mexican food!!! i love that big ole side of beans with melted chedder YUMMMMM!! i love salsa that isn’t so hot that I can’t eat it! I like a little heat, but nothing crazy../TJ’s has an awesome roasted tomato salsa that is low sodium and SO good!! i love it on salads!

ahh that yogurt place is amazing looking! i love how its decorated! i need some fro yo in my life..but sadly I will have to wait a LONG time…*sigh*

my favorite food that I will never get sick of…cliche but its peanut butter!

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) August 9, 2010 at 4:12 pm

Mmm, delicious eats! Craving some mexican food now- yum! And I love froyo, of course. Love make-your-own places!!

I like moderate -to-hot spicy. I’m a huge fan of hot sauces, but if there is TOO much heat, much like you, I think it ruins the flavor.

Ummm I think ice cream wins as my favorite food ever too!!!

Brynne August 9, 2010 at 5:45 pm

1. Sushi, definitely.
2. Hot, but not so much that your mouth is on fire – then you can’t taste the delicious food you’re eating with it!

Liz @ Blog is the New Black August 9, 2010 at 6:15 pm

Ice cream is DEF my favorite food!!!

Alexandra August 9, 2010 at 6:43 pm

I live in Tucson but work in the Phoenix area a lot – I was just at Tia Rosa’s on Friday! Good job eating locally – Tucson and Phoenix both have a lot of local restaurant gems. Hope you enjoyed your trip (save for the heat)!

simplyshaka August 9, 2010 at 7:21 pm

Nachos. I would to live in a world where there is build your own nacho stands everywhere. And I don’t even want to get married but kinda do just so I can have a build your own nacho bar at the wedding (with white queso for me specifically and jalapenos that are dyed to match the color of my dress as well, I have a lot of free time to think out fictional scenarios in my head)

I havent been to Yogurtini, do you remember where it was? I went to Mojo Froyo the last time I visited there and it was the first place I ever saw the weigh your own fro yo thing.

Katie August 9, 2010 at 7:30 pm

Loe Tia Ros!! My aunt/uncle used to live right by one in TX, but it’s been gone for a few years. Also, I wish I had a froyo place near me SO badly. There isn’t one for like 40 miles.

1. I actually don’t think I have a favorite food ever…maybe chocolate chip cookies. Homemade.

2. I’m kind of a salsa wimp, I like it mild.

louisianagrown August 9, 2010 at 7:39 pm

I honestly have no clue what my favorite food is. How could I choose? But I do know that I really, really love Mexican food, and I normally go for a medium salsa.

Valerie C. August 9, 2010 at 7:45 pm

My FAVORITE conbo EVER is a warm brownie with Peanut butter and vanilla ice cream. oh gosh. I could eat it every day for the rest of my life and never get tired of it. A close second is Cereal…any type/kind.

BroccoliHut August 9, 2010 at 8:32 pm

ooh! Self-serve fro yo is kind of an obsession of mine these days.
Favorite food ever? TOFU.

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) August 9, 2010 at 9:32 pm

what a great trip! too bad i wasnt in AZ. but i am so glad to be in So Cal, that’s all i can say !

fave food? does coffee count?

salsa, spicy but not salty. Thus, i must make my own b/c store boughts are both. Totally sodium overlaod and that sucks for me!

Christie August 9, 2010 at 10:15 pm

I so wish there was a frozen yogurt place near my house…

My favorite food ever is pizza. I could eat it every day and never get tired of it. In fact, I worked at a pizza place for over 4 years and never did get tired of it.

I like my salsa extra mild. I’m not too into spicy things.

Laura @ Starloz August 10, 2010 at 1:24 am

Oh, that mexican place looks festive.
I saw a fro-yo place today, i’ll be there soooon

Dumplings, steamed dumplings are my favorite, their INCREDIBLE.

thedelicateplace August 10, 2010 at 6:38 am

fave food: so difficult! prob eggs haha. salsa…i like it to bring the heat!!

Erika August 10, 2010 at 7:54 am

My outlook on salsa is the spicier the better! I also have been known to dip cucumbers in lots of Tabasco…just saying. ;-)

runningaroundnormal August 10, 2010 at 8:13 am

When is there NOT enough room for ice cream. Tis a very, very hard food to turn down. It’s definitely up there on my lsit in the summa time.
Glad you had such a great trip, dear!

julie August 10, 2010 at 6:51 pm

too many salsa choices!! i like my shiz spicy though so that’s no joke.

i love the weigh it and pay it system. although i’m pretty sure marshmellow should have capitalized on the largest size.

closet365project August 10, 2010 at 8:27 pm

That restaurant looks amazing. So hungry for Mexican now!

My answers are the same as yours for both questions. Holla!

Freckled Foodie August 11, 2010 at 5:56 am

asking to choose a fave food is like asking to choose a fav band, song, restaurant, and person. :) toooo many to choose just ONE :D

i lurveeee froyo, sweet potatoes, hummus, roasted veggies, greek yogurt, anddd fresh fruit!

for salsa, i usually like it to be sweet & a hint spicy like peach mango salsa or pineapple salsa!

danica August 12, 2010 at 5:19 pm

I wonder if Tia Rosa is like the tortillas :)

I LOVE the picture of u and marshall..so cute, so in love!
