hola amigas.

in meals

i know i am totally failing at this whole blogging thing.. but, turns out, being a newlywed is way more time consuming that you’d initally expect. and you are only a newlywed once (if you play your cards right, that is.) and so i have decided to go ahead and soak up all this awesomeness while i can. and blog when the chance arises. like right now.

we had a busy and productive weekend. we also had a lot of fun! how about some highlights?

saturday highlights:

  • woke up at 10 AM
  • went to the pool with a friend for 3 whole hours, basked my life away!
  • ate a delicious whole wheat wrap from whole foods
  • stocked up on my favorite muesli from sunflower market
  • went to the REAL game!

marshall’s friends have organized a football (soccer) club, salt city united, and it makes the games SUPER fun.  we all stand in the end zone and cheer, scream, sing, play the trombone.

 IMG_4139  IMG_4145

trombones are super hard to play! who knew?!

it ended up pouring down rain on us.. we didn’t care!

i thought this was funny at the concessions.. check out the nachos.. and then notice that you have to PAY to add cheese to them. um, i thought the definition of nachos was chips and cheese? ha.

marshall got a personal cheese pizza and i ate a 1/4 of it. it went well with my hefeweizen.

intense concentration from the fans!

our cheerleader, trev.

good times had by all! and we won, 3-0.

after the game we went to vertical diner, which is a vegan restaurant in SLC. super delicious.

i got a boca burger+carrot sticks. i LOVED the seedy bun it came on!

the boca burger itself was a bit bland. not a huge fan.

sunday highlights.

sunday=most productive day EVER!

  • gave the pups a bath

IMG_4199 IMG_4204

  • went to target and got a new DSLR camera (YAY!) i exchanged my old one that wasn’t working properly
  • made returns to kohl’s, the home depot & lowes.. i loathe the return process! worst errand ever
  • went to bed bath & beyond and got $600 worth of goods for only $150 out of pocket, thanks to coupons, gift cards and credit from wedding gift returns. total score!
  • unpacked all our new goodies and set up shop for our first BBQ!

we had marshall’s brother and some relatives over for his brother’s birthday.  i wore my cute new apron my mom brought me from costa rica!

we had chips, salsa & queso dip as an appetizer.

this cute mini crock pot came with the big one we bought. love it!

marshall was the grill master! he put the grill together on friday and saturday. i am so proud :)

on the menu:

  • grilled chicken
  • honeydew
  • corn on the cob
  • twice baked potatoes
  • green salad

my plate:

i love the plates and silverware and placemats we picked out!

first legit dinner at the new place :)

um yeah, marshall was shoving his face, typical ;)

i can’t believe i am so out of practice.. i FORGOT to take a photo of the dessert! i made strawberry shortcake from scratch. ugh, sad i didn’t remember to take a photo. but glad i made it and devoured it in no time at all. it was so good!

well, that is all i have for you guys. the only “moves” i had all weekend was a couple runs with the dogs and lots of walking around (errands) and lifting/building things at the house.

i leave for arizona wednesday night. hopefully i can get another post up before then.. oh, and i am fully aware that i still need to blog about the wedding & honeymoon, don’t worry, it’s coming!

1. weekend highlight?

2. what is the last thing you baked from scratch?

Damn girl you are busy, bless your little heart finding time to blog!

I miss Sunflower dearly but I’m going to Phoenix in a few wks and will hit it up then…yay!

Wknd highlight was a nap (I’m sure you can appreciate) and organizing my kitchen. Sometimes its the little things that make happy.

Tina August 2, 2010 at 2:43 pm

We have similar tastes. Our plates are almost exactly like that. I love them!

Glad you are just living and enjoying life. So true that this is a time meant to enjoy. :)

homecookedem August 2, 2010 at 2:47 pm

Looks like a fun weekend!! Your meal you made looks sooooo good!! Now I’m craving chips and queso!! ;)

The highlight of my weekend was spending time with Andrew doing the last bit of registering for our baby and using my coupon for a free waffle at Waffle House, haha! Soooooo good!! Oh and Andrew made GF biscuits and gravy for breakfast yesterday morning… that was such a treat!!

I don’t really cook… or bake! But I did make some awesome gingerbread cookies last Christmas! Yes, seriously, I think that’s the last thing I made from scratch… yikes!!

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is August 2, 2010 at 2:56 pm

You guys are SO cute!

lindsay August 2, 2010 at 2:57 pm

soak it up! Being a newlywed is SO SO FUN! Enjoy the newness of it all plus all the fun times you have decorating the house, getting new kitchen gadgets, etc.

Nachos without cheese for almost $5?? Thats crazy!

Shelby August 2, 2010 at 3:06 pm

I’m so glad you guys had a great weekend!

Amanda (The Nutritionist Reviews) August 2, 2010 at 3:11 pm

You look so pretty in your pictures at the game! I’m happy that you are enjoying being a newlywed! It is a great time in your life!

Talia @ Texasgunslinger August 2, 2010 at 3:14 pm

Ya’ll are adorable! Fun pics!

The highlight of my weekend was visiting friends in Washington, D.C. What a cool city and from what I could tell, a very active city! Everywhere we went people were outside playing volleyball/soccer/baseball, or riding bikes or walking and jogging. I think they were named one of the most fit cities and I can definitely say, it showed!

The last thing I made front scratch…Yeah, right! HAHAHA!…like that’s gonna happen! ;P

Erica August 2, 2010 at 3:28 pm

Holy awesome pictures from the weekend! The game looks like a lot of fun. And the food at the diner? I want to go there! Maybe I will come visit. Hooray for the new camera and the awesome bbq food. Weekend highlight- brunch with the rents. Last thing I baked from scratch- vegan banana cake this weekend :)

Carla in Sydney August 2, 2010 at 4:12 pm

You guys look so happy Janetha!!
Mexican food isn’t really that popular here in Australia (we only get the basic nachos, burritos etc in most places) but I love it….Did you buy that queso dip or make it?? If you made it, could you please let me know the recipe and I will be forever grateful. No rush of course as I understand you are busy basking in your marital bliss!! :-)

lisaou11 August 2, 2010 at 4:16 pm

you look so happy and glowing and just relaxed in all of these pics!

Katie August 2, 2010 at 4:17 pm

Awh, you guys have so much fun together! What a great group of crazy and awesome friends you have! Can’t wait to see the wedding photos. :)

Meg August 2, 2010 at 4:24 pm

Busy woman! I love the pictures, you and Marshall are the most badass newlyweds ever – especially with those trumpets! SWEET! Glad you’re having a great week/had a great weekend and basking by the pool, saving moola on goodies and a BBQ ALL sound awesome! I love making stuff from scratch – particularly pancakes and cobblers!

elaine @ Om Sweet Om August 2, 2010 at 4:31 pm

you are absolutely glowing in all those pictures girl! be happy that you’re busy and enjoy your newly wed life! marshall is too funny–trombone to the game???

recently i made muesli choc chip cookies from scratch! mmm love baking :D

theemptynutjar August 2, 2010 at 4:41 pm

So happy for you. You look so pretty. (and I have always thought your hubby is super cute).

Lauren August 2, 2010 at 5:03 pm

You aren’t kidding, you have been one busy lady. But honestly, this is totally expected right now for you. Trust me, if you were blogging every single minute, I would think something was wrong. Heck, you are a NEWLYWED!!!! You should be spending your free time doing “newlywed” things. LoL ;)

How cute are you making dinner in your new house. I think the apron was entirely necessary for this occasion and you look just darling.

Mmmm, I’ve been craving strawberry shortcake made from scratch. I believe it was amazing!! I mean, how could it not be?!?! :)

Katie August 2, 2010 at 5:19 pm

Lots Of Love on this post!!!!!!!!!

Yay for your first cookout at your new house!!!!! Your house is so nice, I love it! Love the apron too, miss hot janetha cooking!

Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) August 2, 2010 at 5:23 pm

Andy and I went to a soccer game with a riot squad (club type thing!) and it was so much fun. People were banging on drums and singing chants. Love it.

Returning goods sucks! I hated it too. But it was fun to get new stuff. We got tons of doubles. I love the square plates you guys picked out!

The last from scratch meal I made? Cheesy polenta. Ridiculously good!

Mary @ What's Cookin' with Mary August 2, 2010 at 5:45 pm

We have the same placemats! Great minds…? hehe I love your new kitchen!! Very inviting, makes me want to cook something in it ;)

We had a super busy weekend which included sushi at a place we’d never tried wtih some friends from LA… It was SO GOOD! Can’t wait to go back… Buying new patio furnature for the first time ever… I was so excited to have my first patio umbrella … such a nerd I am. And we had a last minute BBQ sunday (to use said umbrella) which ended up being a TON of fun. One friend offered to buy some carne asada and we supplied the fish and taco fixin’s and had ourselves a little fiesta. OLE

Baked from scratch… hmmm? That was a LONG time ago, but it was a whole wheat banana chocolate chip loaf this winter. Wish I was better at baking… Brian says his waistline is glad that I can’t. lol love him!

kbwood August 2, 2010 at 7:03 pm

oh my gah i love you two!! you are so funny blowing that trombone .. hahaha i would SUCK at it! It just looks hard!!

(okay that entire comment had TWSS comments in there and i just noticed it)

ANYWAY what an awesome first legit dinner at the new place girl!! glad you are soaking in being a NEWLY WED!

Rachael August 2, 2010 at 7:22 pm

The trombone picture is truly great.
Maybe I’m channeling my inner 1950’s housewife in proclaiming this, but I love me a Crockpot!
I make bread from scratch pretty much every day. I’m on the road for another two months for work, so I’m actually going through bread-kneading withdrawal – I forgot how therapeutic it is. Stress ball in dough form!

Katharina August 2, 2010 at 7:22 pm

Gosh!! I’ve had so much catching up to do!! I don’t know if I said it already but major congratulations. It makes me smile to see you two newlyweds. I love the picture of you two that’s really close. It’s so sweet :) Sooo awesome about all of these things going your way!!

Paying extra for cheese on nachos? What. the. hell?

1. Having guests over :D And a mother-daughter photoshoot

2. Last thing I baked from scratch.. on Friday I baked a loaf of French honey-spice bread. SO INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS!!!

XOXO my love!

mayapamela August 2, 2010 at 7:29 pm

Aww live it up with Marshall! Blogging can wait.

Last thing I baked from scratch was banana carrot date quick bread with no sugar! It was pretty good, but needs a topping (like nut butter!) or yogurt to help the goodness out.

Angharad August 2, 2010 at 8:15 pm

I can’t tell you how happy I am that you are just living life to the max and enjoying being a missus with your mister. It honestly makes my heart so happy. That’s EXACTLY what this time is for. Spending time, having fun, being “the newlyweds”, eating good food and yeah, having fun again.

Love you xxx

Katie August 2, 2010 at 8:20 pm

Yay for being a newlywed!! I still feel like a newlywed 3 years later…soak it all in!

1. Weekend highlight was road tripping to Texas to see my family.
2. I baked some oatmeal cookies this weekend…yum!

Jenn August 2, 2010 at 9:14 pm

Fun weekend!!! I love it when my dogs get baths! Ha!

I spent my first weekend alone at my house since I’ve been married and I’ve been married almost 11 years!!! I can’t say it was a highlight. Not getting abducted maybe???

Naomi(oneFF) August 3, 2010 at 2:08 am

aww you newlyweds are so darn cute!! that game looks so fun!! funny story, my brother used to play the trombone and I always made fun of him (even though I played the flute) and one day I picked it up to try to play it and almost broke it…my parents weree not pleased!! haha

looks like a perfect weekend! there is nothing better than clean pup’s is there?!?!

last thing I baked from scratch hmmm that would have to be nothing too exciting…oh! protein bars!!!

MelissaNibbles August 3, 2010 at 2:34 am

There’s no way to fail at blogging. Don’t ever say that woman!!
Your friends look like so much fun. I wish I lived near you. If I ever mosey through your state, will you show me around?

I haven’t baked from scratch in forever. I used to bake all the time, but I lost my cooking mojo sometime last year :(

Morgan August 3, 2010 at 5:54 am

Love your apron!! They actually make those in Panama. They are usually hand stitched by Kuna Indians and pretty cool art. The design is called a Mola because of the way they stitch them. Super cute!! Tell your mama HELLOOOOO So happy that you had a great wedding.. sorry I couldn’t be there, I hope my my mom was able to represent :)

Freckled Foodie August 3, 2010 at 7:00 am

You are such a great little wifey! Keeping up with the family, prepping meals, AND blogging while taking care of Marshall. Totally admire you! :)

julie August 3, 2010 at 7:28 am

umm i’m hoping at your bbq you charged extra for the cheese..

your married life looks fab. keep living it girl blogging will forevs be here

Graze With Me August 3, 2010 at 7:31 am

There’s just something about eating off your own new plate with new silverware that can’t be beat. I love the square plates too, beautiful.

And the mini crockpot?? Gah! Too cute.

Erika August 3, 2010 at 8:22 am

Sounds like a fun weekend – enjoy being a newlywed! :-)
The last thing I baked from scratch was zucchini bread – I have the recipe on myblog! (Mmmm.)

Jocelyn August 3, 2010 at 8:38 am

The game sounds fun! I love most sporting events ;)
The last baked good I made would have to be peanut butter caramel drizzle blondies…oh so good!

emily August 3, 2010 at 8:50 am

what a lovely weekend!
kudos on a lovely first dinner at your new place.

1. we got a motorcycle!!! (talk about a dream come true). I hope tonight me & my man can go for our first ride.

2. my new recipe, elvis’ waffles. (waffles fortified with crushed banana, and TJ’s peanut flour) and topped with more crushed bananas and peanut butter (made from the TJ’s flour and water).

Jennie August 3, 2010 at 9:34 am

I live in AZ. Why are you coming here? It’s going to be HOT!!

Also, I was wondering if you have any tattoos. Many of your friends do. :) I don’t have any. I’m too wimpy.

Dawn (HealthySDLiving) August 3, 2010 at 10:54 am

You guys are way too cute! :) Glad you had a fun weekend!

jayme August 3, 2010 at 11:02 am

i bought very similar dishes for my new place, i love ’em! they make everything look so polished.
(i guess there’s probably 2 million sets of white square dishes out there, but i still get excited when i see someone using them.)

the food & soccer games look like so much fun! i like that picture of you and your man at the game.

anddd, i made some bread last night, and sugar and butter loaded banana muffins out of boredom.
i’m sad to say those were also my weekend highlights haha.

Maren August 3, 2010 at 11:45 am

YAY for finally getting to use your new kitchen! This weekend was my mom’s side of the family reunion in Minnesota. It was so much fun! I am still recovering from almost no sleep though. There’s no time for sleep when you are busy hanging out with over 100 people related to you! The last thing I made from scratch were some yummy protein bars!

C. August 3, 2010 at 12:13 pm

Holy balls, look at the AMAZING stache in the 1st pic.
I am instantly inlove. Can he be shipped to southern cali?

you 2 are GORGEOUS!

RunToTheFinish August 3, 2010 at 1:15 pm

enjoy every minute of your newly married life!! But hello isn’t shopping with giftcards SO FUN

jenngirl August 3, 2010 at 1:44 pm

Keep on doin’ your newlywed thing! You guys look so made for each other and so comfortable as a married duo! Love the very first BBQ, very exciting!

Mary (A Merry Life) August 3, 2010 at 3:31 pm

You are a newlywed. Living > blogging. Obviously.

Looks like you had an awesome weekend. We did too – lots of engagement celebrations. ;)

Kelly August 3, 2010 at 4:09 pm

Girl you are too cute…I am thinking the extra for the cheese was for extra cheese on the nachos…but I do agree it is worded funny!! You look like you are making the most of the newlywed days!!

kelli August 3, 2010 at 5:01 pm

Girl you and marshall look happier than ever!!! Do not worry about your blogging time, you are only ever a newlywed once [hopefully], Enjoy it doing your firsts of everything as husband and wife haha :) Love the plates and flatware, hate return process also!

Lindsay @ The Ketchup Diaries August 3, 2010 at 5:31 pm

You are easily one of my favorite blogs. You just make me smile!! Weekend was too busy, so no highlight. Hoping to slow down this weekend!

StephanieinSuburbia August 3, 2010 at 6:02 pm

I love that you’re soaking up the awesomeness. Seriously, you should feel the glow and love as much as possible!

As for baking from scratch, I almost always have to now. For some reason when I was pregnant, I could taste EVERY fake ingredient and anything with high sodium made me gag. It didn’t go away after I had the baby, so I really can’t eat a lot of the frozen or packaged meals. I think that was my husband’s favorite pregnancy side effect because now we have real meals almost every night. I do crave the occasional hot dog, I’m only human :)

runningaroundnormal August 3, 2010 at 6:45 pm

Enjoy the newly wedness! It’s great :D
Sounds like an amazing weekend. LOL when Shane cooks me a Boca burger on the grill, he tells me my “disc” is done. He refuses to call it a burger, bahaha
