take a peek.

in meals

hey everyone! hope your saturday is full of good times.  can you BELIEVE it is the last day of july?! the summer is already 2/3 of the way over. that just blows my mind.  i guess weddings and honeymoons will make the month fly by, eh?

i wanted to pop in and give you all a peek of my work-in-progress kitchen!

thursday night, i worked on scrubbing the inside of the fridge (the previous home owners left it in pretty rough shape) and lining the shelves of the cupboards and drawers with shelf liner. let’s just say that contact paper and i do not get along. but, i got it all done! and i also was able to unpack the few food items i brought from my old house.

i am a sucker for organization.  i love starting with a clean slate because i always start out super organized.. although i am the first to admit that after a few months, i let my busy life get the best of me and all organization goes out the window.  i am bound and determined to keep my kitchen organized.. fingers crossed!

i realize this may be super boring for a lot of you, so feel free to stop reading now. i am not promising some incredible post. just my fridge and pantry :)

here is the fridge:

IMG_4103 IMG_4111

on the top, we have all the drinks.  basically i should say marshall’s drinks. pepsi and izze soda. you can also see my french press full of coffee, which i make every night, refrigerate, and take with me each morning.

IMG_4107

the second shelf is designated to creamer, cottage cheese, greek yogurt and leftovers.  that is some leftover spaghetti sauce i took from my mom’s house from tuesday night.

IMG_4108

the third shelf is going to be used for breads, tortillas, flat outs, etc., sandwich meats, pickles.. probably leftovers as well, i usually end up with a lot of leftovers. just not yet. and the bottom shelf, so far, only has eggs.

IMG_4109

the first drawer will be for fruit. the second drawer will be for veggies. sorry about the dark photo. as you can see, we have a peach and half of a melon. that is not wrapped in saran wrap, because we have none. work in progress, folks. we do have some salad greens and broccoli in the veggie drawer.

IMG_4110

moving onto the side door.. on the top is cheeses & butter, the second compartment is for yogurt. marshall eats about 4 yoplait yogurts a day.. sometimes more!

IMG_4105

below the yogurt is the milk and juice. then we have condiments (hot sauce, bbq sauce, ketchup, mustards, sugar free syrup, salsa, applesauce). and below that is jams/jellies.

IMG_4106

moving onto the freezer!

IMG_4112

starting with the bottom shelf of the door.. wedding cake! i will eat you in about a year, mister cake.

IMG_4113

above that is some vegan ice cream left over from the wedding.

IMG_4114

in the bottom compartment there is chicken & green beans.

IMG_4115

and under that there are lots of diced peaches left over from the wedding.

IMG_4116

above the bottom compartment is a shelf that only has blueberries right now. essential for smoothies.

IMG_4119

above that we have a shelf of vitatops & creamies. yum and yum. everyone should try the peach creamies. holy hell, they are so good. and only about 100 calories if memory serves correctly.

IMG_4117

and finally, on the top shelf, there is a loaf of marshall’s favorite bread and a 3 gallon tub (that is totally full) of vanilla bean ice cream. leftover from the wedding. i wonder how long it will take us to eat that?!

IMG_4120

there you have it, the fridge/freezer. exciting stuff, eh? i am just excited to have a WHOLE fridge and not have to share it with roomies! well, i do share it with marshall but he is pretty cute so i’ll let it slide ;)

moving onto the pantry.. or cupboard with food.. i don’t know what to call it. i always use the term pantry for walk-in styles.. so correct me if i am wrong. whatever. this is where we keep the food. ha.

IMG_4121

top shelf: protein powder, second shelf: baking stuff.

IMG_4122

next up we have canned beans, veggies, sauces, etc. and i somehow failed to take a photo of that shelf. i guess i was too preoccupied with the shelf below that, which is stocked full of nut & seed butters!

IMG_4124

cereal.. plus 13 or so jars of nut/seed butters. hahaha. marshall was a little appalled at this.

IMG_4123

to the right of the tower-o-jars, we have chips & nuts.. snack stuff, if you will.

IMG_4125

below that there is a shelf for soups, salsas, dips, etc.

IMG_4128IMG_4130

and below THAT there is the shelf for grains.. noodles, quinoa, couscous, etc. i also have sun dried tomatoes and pine nuts on this shelf.IMG_4131

the bottom shelf has crackers, a box of protein bars and different packets of stuff (sauce packets, recipe mix packets, etc).. i want to get some cute organizational boxes to hold these things.

IMG_4132

ta da!

that is it. boring, right?

i hope i can keep things in order and make sure to always put stuff in the designated spot.. but i am making no promises. ;)

Qs~

1. in your kitchen, are you an organizational freak or is everything just put away where ever there is room?

2. what drinks are in your fridge right now?

Woahhhhh, nut butters!! I actually just showed that picture to my husband and said, “Don’t you EVER say anything again about me having too many nut butters!!!” hahahahaha!! ;)

I keep our cabinets and fridge pretty well organized, but I don’t think I’m horribly anal about it. Drinks we have are diet soda (for Andrew) and vitamin water zero (for me).

Marisol Doddridge July 31, 2010 at 3:50 pm

Awe, I don’t find this post boring at all! I think it’s cute. It reminds me of when I first moved in with my husband and like you, I promised myself to keep the kitchen as organized as possible. Let’s just say I haven’t been as successful. ;) Hope you are.

Amanda (The Nutritionist Reviews) July 31, 2010 at 4:29 pm

Thanks for the peek through your cupboards!

Maren July 31, 2010 at 4:40 pm

that Dutch Calve Peanut Butter is SO good! i love it and get a new more whenever i go overseas!

Erica July 31, 2010 at 4:58 pm

Looking good! I love when my kitchen is organized! I actually did a little bit of organizing today. I want to try that the heat is on PB so bad.

1. in your kitchen, are you an organizational freak or is everything just put away where ever there is room? I try to be a freak, sometimes it gets out of control

2. what drinks are in your fridge right now? 2% milk, Almond milk, water and Josh’s crystal lite

Jennie July 31, 2010 at 5:06 pm

I like organization too and all of my cans and jars have to facing label out in my pantry. :)

Drinks in my fridge are milk, iced tea, beer and coke (for my husband).

Jenna July 31, 2010 at 5:07 pm

Love all the nut butters!!!

Carbzilla July 31, 2010 at 5:22 pm

Yay! Great job!

So you’re gonna want to wrap your cake in tin foil a couple of times and then put it back in the airless plastic bag. A friend kept ours for us and though the colors ran, the cake itself was delicious.

Can’t wait to see your newlywed kitchen progress!

Chasing the Now July 31, 2010 at 5:30 pm

Janetha, you are SO much more organized than I am. I do good for a few days then just start putting stuff wherever!!!

Jill (irun ieat) July 31, 2010 at 5:45 pm

I wish I was organized. I start out very organized but we have so little room it turns into just stuff anywhere that will fit.

Kaley July 31, 2010 at 6:41 pm

Jealous! I love how organized everything looks. Living with my mother has made me decide to be wayyyy more organized with my pantry & cabinets.

jenngirl July 31, 2010 at 6:51 pm

JANETHA G!! I am so sorry for being so MIA on the commenting, but I have LOVED reading about this exciting and beautiful time in your life. Congrats to you and Marshall! You are so fab, as usual :)

Love the new house, kitchen, and everything. I am a major kitchen/refrigerator organize-freak, and everyone knows it. In fact, tonight (while house and dog-sitting for my parents) I rearranged their fridge and threw out old food. Yep, it’s sort of fun, right?

Katie July 31, 2010 at 6:58 pm

I love fridge and pantry sneak peeks! :) This was a great post. What can I say? I am a bit nosey. Haha

I need to organize my things here at my mom’s house. My stuff is kind of all over the place, but I am moving out for college here in 3 weeks, so I really just need to start eating it all! Ha. I am also a culprit of the massive amounts of nut butters. My boyfriend is also appalled. He doesn’t understand why I can’t just live with one jar of plain jane peanut butter like him. Uh, it’s because I am a food blogger and food lover. DUH! ;)

BroccoliHut July 31, 2010 at 7:16 pm

Ooh! I always love seeing what fellow bloggers keep in stock. I once did a video tour of my pantry for the blog that lasted for an amazingly long 8 minutes–hard to believe how much stuff I can cram into such a small space. However, I am very organized about it:)

Kelsey @ CleanTeenKelsey July 31, 2010 at 7:37 pm

I didn’t think it was boring–I actually enjoyed it very much. :) And I’m laughing because we have that EXACT same loaf of bread in our freezer! We love Utah’s amazing bread so we always bring a loaf home to Texas when we visit. Also, I love Creamies. I never knew they had a yogurt variety!

Jessica July 31, 2010 at 7:45 pm

I wish I was an organizational freak! I go through phases where I try to shape up but mostly I just put stuff where it fits and close the door : )

White wine, flavored seltzer water, skim milk & powerade…random.

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is July 31, 2010 at 8:17 pm

I am always organized in the kitchen, tho there are many days where I just throw stuff wherever it fits!

lisaou11 July 31, 2010 at 9:15 pm

holy nut butter heaven!

I actually loved this post. I just moved into a new apartment yesterday and wasnt sure how I wanted to organize the fridge—now I have a nice headstart!

Right now in my bare fridge I have beer, 1 diet Mtn Dew for Sean, Almond Breeze, and bottles of water.

Lindsay July 31, 2010 at 9:35 pm

I am an organizational freak. If things arent in the “right” place, I get all frustrated at my family for not putting it back in the right spot and I have to reorganize everything. It is rather time consuming, but I like things in their place. In my house, we have an extra fridge just for our drinks, we have diet coke, coke zero, diet cherry 7up, diet cream soda, beer, skim milk, 2% milk, juice, and water. I know that sounds like alot for a family of 4, but everyone has VERY different tastes and my mom likes to please!! ;)

lynn @ the actors diet July 31, 2010 at 10:11 pm

lovely kitchen, janetha! i’ve got a place for everything, but i end up putting throwing things everywhere else…

nic - the auspicious squirrel July 31, 2010 at 11:30 pm

You are so cute… I also just recently moved so I’m trying to decide where everything goes… I don’t have much food (yet) and I seem to keep unboxing more and more dishes, pots, and gadgets… will I have room for food? :P

Beverages in my fridge: Virgil’s cream soda (both regular and black cherry), Silk soy milk, juice, and water. :)

Kerry July 31, 2010 at 11:58 pm

you have so much space! I can’t wait to move out, i share with my parents ( i buy my own food) and they end up eating mine! Especially my brother nabbing my ice creams out the freezer!

Stef August 1, 2010 at 1:31 am

Hey,
I liked the post and didn’t find it boring at all but I also like watching grocery hauls on youtube….even though i live in a different country.
I’d love to have my pantry and fridge organized but my parents still live with me ;-) and so that’s not possible because a) we have too much stuff b) my dad usually puts everything he doesn’t need all the way to the back even though i’m the only one who cooks in the kitchen every day!

Christine August 1, 2010 at 3:50 am

I guess I have no life because I absolutely, thoroughly enjoyed this post! I am the same way about loving the organization, starting out perfectly and having to re-do about 3 times a year when things get hectic, but what a feeling when it is done. I keep going back for appreciation moments :0)

In my fridge are the last of my Diet Cokes (giving them up for good!)and pom juice.

MelissaNibbles August 1, 2010 at 3:52 am

I just wanted to let you know that there is high fructose corn syrup in your yogurt and you’re going to die.

hahahaha!

Thanks for the sneak peak. There’s beer, salad, and cottage cheese in my fridge right now and a Carvel ice cream cake in my freezer. I’m going to the store today sometime…before it closes.

Katie August 1, 2010 at 4:44 am

Love this post!! I love seeing what other bloggers have in their kitchen!!!

LOVE that you have the coconut creamer, it’s a must for me, love that Marshall eats THAT MUCH yogurt , he rocks : ) , love the almond butter stash, the HUGE icecream container leftover from your wedding, and I love all the healthy treats you have!

I say we have a blogger party at your new house with icecream and almond butter!!!!!

In my fridge, drinks would be orange juice , milk ( for the boys) , almond breeze milk ( for me) water, and gatorade for the boys!

My pantry is pretty organized like yours : ) my shelf is at least, now my fiances. hmmmmmmmmmm not always organized!

love ya girl!

April August 1, 2010 at 4:57 am

Everythings got its place but i’m sure it only makes sense to me :)

I have water, almond milk, green tea and apple cidar vinegar!

1970kikiproject August 1, 2010 at 5:01 am

i’m pretty much the freak! love to have everything “in it’s spot” in the fridge…and i like labels facing forward! i’m bad about regularly wiping out the fridge, though…really don’t like that job!

love the collection of nut butters – i think you have me beat! (we have five on the go at the moment…)

drinks? brita water container, carbonated water, lemonade – two flavours (the husband’s)

enjoy your fridge!!! :)

Jennie August 1, 2010 at 7:52 am

Hooray for labels facing out! :)

BBx2 - Mandy & jR August 1, 2010 at 7:31 am

I love sneak peeks into others fridge/freezer/pantry stash! Makes me feel a bit more normal! haha!

BBx2 - Mandy & jR August 1, 2010 at 7:31 am

Meaning my nut butter stash, by the way… I hit enter way too quickly! I have so many and my husband thinks I’m crazy! It’s just good to know I’m not alone :)

TanyasDailyProductReviews August 1, 2010 at 8:05 am

that is a lot of nut butter! I like it organized…but it doesn’t always stay that way.

jqlee August 1, 2010 at 9:32 am

haha, i think it’s funny how ppl put things in the fridge. i always put milk things on the side so i thought it was wierd when i saw lot of other ppl’s fridges with it on the shelves.

i am DEFINITELY a fridge organizing crazy. it has to be my way or i freak out.

kristastes August 1, 2010 at 9:53 am

I am definitely an organizational freak-0 when it comes to everything, including my kitchen. So obviously I’m a fan of yours ;)

Drinks in my fridge: milk, raspberry-lime seltzer, water, white wine…I’m boring.

runningaroundnormal August 1, 2010 at 11:41 am

Ahhhh I’m jealous of your nut butters!! Justin’s is pretty much amazing.
In my kitchen, everything has its own place…ish. Everything has its own space I should say. I once organized all the spices alphabetically and that lasted about a week LOL

Angharad August 1, 2010 at 11:53 am

Um I am weirdly nosy about this kind of thing so I didn’t find an iota of it boring! We have a pantry (walk in!) that is pretty organized mainly because it’s so big that’s it’s easy to be good about it. The fridge on the other hand…well.

Drinks in our fridge right now: almond milk, 14 beers and half a bottle of white wine. Hm priorities?! We’re out of regular milk but don’t worry folks, we have our body weight in booze!

Tamizn August 1, 2010 at 1:22 pm

Wow your nut butter collection is insane jealous! x x

Lee August 1, 2010 at 1:26 pm

I am so unorganized! I wish I could be better about it.

In our fridge right now, we have diet coke, a brita, coconut milk and slimfast (Jason likes it).

Teri [a foodie stays fit] August 1, 2010 at 2:45 pm

I’m jealous of your organized kitchen! We don’t have a pantry which makes organization difficult. Our food items are spread all over in different cupboards.

hundredtenpounds August 1, 2010 at 3:03 pm

Actually, your empty fridge looks just like how mine used to look! When I was single I had more food in the freezer than the fridge!

simplyshaka August 1, 2010 at 6:33 pm

I want it all—the fridge, the contents—every last bit of it(Ok maybe not the nut butters since I’m not a huge fan) but still, it all looks great.

I just moved and am in a much smaller kitchen than I am used to so I am still getting used to it. I like to have a place for everything and am playing around with the smaller area but I will make it work!!

PS-Finally bought xanthan gum and holy crap–I love it. Why didn’t I buy it ages ago?

Erika August 1, 2010 at 7:39 pm

I don’t think this post is boring at all! I liked it – your fridge/pantry is so organized.
To answer your Q’s:
1. I am an organization freak when it comes to the fridge/pantry and most of the house, but when it comes to my room I am a slob. Haha!
2. What drinks are in my fridge…hmmm…
– 1% milk
-OJ
-Cranberry Juice (No Sugar Added, of course!)
-Diet Coke
-Fuze Slenderize Drinks

:-D

Elina (Healthy and Sane) August 1, 2010 at 7:53 pm

I keep my kitchen pretty well organized although the fridge does get cluttered at times. We have milk and wine in the fridge right now :)

katie August 1, 2010 at 9:05 pm

HEY GIRL!!!
ahhhh those sandwiches look so good! IVE so missed you! so happy you are posting again!!! you are the BEST WIFEY EVER!! i love saying that!

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) August 1, 2010 at 10:38 pm

huge neat freak beyond belief and everything has it’s place, no matter what girl! anal to a fault that way LOL

have a super week hon!!!!

lowandbhold August 2, 2010 at 6:11 am

I try to be pretty organized, but my pantry can get a little discombobulated at times.

Right now in my fridge there is a gallon of Crystal Light Raspberry Lemonade (yes, the artificial sugar stuff), two random protein shakes I may never drink, 2 bottles of POM Wonderful that I cannot for the life of me open, 2 bottles of Powerade Zero and a 12-pack of Bud Select 55. Random, now that I’ve written it all out. Very random.

Naomi (onefitfoodie) August 2, 2010 at 6:27 am

we are such wierd foodies, and instead of what you call a boring post, I find so interesting! i love taking a peek in others cabinets and fridges to see what food they munch on! (not in a creepy way LOL. I love that you have all those nut butters! Jason doesnt understand that I can’t jus thave 1 plain ole PB sitting around…sunflower seed butter, almond butter, you name it i have to have at LEAST one other jar!! Drinks I have are water, almond breeze, iced green tea and some diet snapples! I also always have some crystal light packets (which I don’t use that often) but just in case I have a sweet tooth for something other than water)

I like to keep the fridge somewhat organized yessss

Valerie C. August 8, 2010 at 1:03 pm

i agree. I love the “cribs” like look into people’s fridges. :)

Lindsay @ The Ketchup Diaries August 2, 2010 at 8:40 am

I’m pretty good at keeping the fridge organized but my pantry is a DISASTER!!!

Mary @ What's Cookin' with Mary August 2, 2010 at 10:44 am

I like for things in the kitchen to be organized, but when I’m in a rush…. I tend to put things back hap-hazardly and then later take the time to re-org everything. My fridge is pretty much always organized, but the pantry… not so much.

Drinks in the fridge: white wine X 2, coconut water, almond milk, diet and regular Hansen’s cream soda and beer. BOOM

Holly at Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices August 2, 2010 at 10:57 am

haha- I LOVE all of your nut butters- cracks me up :) I’m the same way, & I always have to make sure I have extra on hand..just in case. I mean who knows what could happen! :)

Graze With Me August 3, 2010 at 7:27 am

Not boring at all! My nut butter stash is huge too. One thing – I once heard from my nutrition professor that you should always keep milk on a shelf instead of the door. I guess the door doesn’t get cold enough…? Just a thought. :)

My fridge is filled with mostly my own stuff. Dave doesn’t really eat or snack at home so he just eats whatever I make for him.

Lara (Thinspired) August 4, 2010 at 1:30 pm

I am immensely jealous of your perfectly organized fridge! I wish mine was so perfect, but sadly it is polluted with leftovers, upside down ketchup bottles, and other questionable items.

Current beverages: bottle of white wine, Diet 7uP, and our Brita water filter :)
