arts festival.

in meals

hello! wow, yesterday was the first flashback friday i missed in i don’t know how long. kind of a bummer! i had something planned, too, but life got away with me and i ran out of time. i am sure you understand.

i don’t have much time to post this morning, either, as i have a super busy weekend. but i wanted to check in! and for the record, i just typed an apostrophe in “wanted”so it said “wan’ted”.. what the crud?!

yesterday after work i got my very first facial. it was amazing.  i can see why women drop many dollars at the spa. i had a gift certificate so it was free for me.. but man, i loved it. i didn’t even wear makeup afterward, my skin was so fresh and so clean!

after the facial i picked up my ring (i had it resized so it fits now, hooray!) and then before i knew it, it was 6:30 and time to head to the utah arts festival!

1 054

i go every year. i actually was planning on running the festival 5k this morning but my budget had different plans and i skipped out on the race. i can run 3.1 miles for free whenever i want.. i am not too heart broken over the decision.

last night we walked to the festival from kristen & rory’s house.  i love how they live so close to everything downtown!

1 044

halfway there, marshall realized he left the tickets in his wallet and he had to run back to the house. he was pretty speedy! here he is running back to us:

1 050

once inside, we started perusing all the awesome booths.  there are so many different types of art.. it’s fantastic! artists come from all over the USA to display and sell their artwork.  i could look at art all day, it truly fascinates me.  such talent.

1 088 1 089 1 055

i loved these bird baths, they made me think of momma b!

1 058

it was scorching hot so i decided to snag an iced coffee.  marshall opted for a hot one. i have no idea how he drinks hot beverages in these temperatures!!

1 0661 067

guess what i spotted?!

1 069

chobani bus!

1 074

hooray.  they were giving out FREE chobani! um, yes. sign me up!

1 070

i tried a flavor that i had no idea they made, raspberry:

 1 071 1 079 1 080

it was delicious! i ended up only eating half and giving the rest to marshall because he had some teeth pulled and can only eat soft foods.. i felt bad for him!

after awhile, we ended up running into all our friends!

1 097

i love my little kaia bear. she turns two next week! i can’t believe it. she was having fun running around in circles through alle’s legs.

1 1001 1021 0991 093

we parked it on the lawn because everyone was eating dinner. marshall got a navajo taco (which is deep fried bread topped with taco fixings) and i had a few bites. kristen got some thai food and i had a few bites of that. i wasn’t very hungry for some reason.. maybe the chobani and iced coffee, but i think it was because of the heat. it makes me lose my appetite. weird?

1 106 1 108 1 109 1 111

cute family!!

1 112

we got up and decided to check out more booths.

1 118

i wish i put cream and sugar in my coffee so i could have purchased one of these adorable cream & sugar sets! aren’t they fantastic?!

1 092

marshall got a pina colada smoothie, came over to me and said “you better sit down. this is so good.”

ha! i stayed standing and tasted it.

1 117

yes. it really was delicious! although it did not knock me off my feet ;)

we spent another hour hanging out before heading home. here are a few last photos: 1 1141 1151 1161 1191 1201 122

and one in the fairway. because it is all i wanted :)

1 123

i’m outta here! i have my bridal shower at 2 and i still have to shower, pick out carpet, drink some coffee and do some pushups.

life is crazy. i hope to be back tomorrow, but no promises. have a great weekend!

Qs~

1. what once-a-year events do you go to in your town? i never miss the arts festival or the state fair. never. ever. i like to go to strut your mutt but we missed it this year!

2. what is your favorite type of spa treatment? i have only had a pedicure, manicure, one massage and now a facial. the massage was definitely the best out of all those! i had DOMS at the time and it was incredible.

Chobani truck! How awesome. The art looks gorgeous too – love the pottery and my parents would also adore the birth baths. I try not to miss our fair (the PNE) when it comes through every summer. I love the dog show! My favourite spa treatment is probably hair treatments and scalp massage. So relaxing!

homecookedem June 26, 2010 at 9:46 am

What a fun time!! We have lots of festivals here, especially during the fall. I love going to them, mostly for the yummy FOOD! :)

I’ve also had pedis, manis, massages, and facials… gosh, not sure what my favorite is… probably the massage, but I love how pretty and fresh facials make me feel!

Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) June 26, 2010 at 9:54 am

I completely lose my appetite in the heat, so I can relate! All I ever really want is fruit, iced coffee, yogurt and maybe icecream.

I ran into a Chobani bus once as well. While watching the Boston Marathon actually. Such a fun treat! :D

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is June 26, 2010 at 10:01 am

A wine festival in August! I can’t wait!

GetHealthyWithHeather June 26, 2010 at 10:10 am

Massages are the best!!!!! I actually get a 30 minute massage at least one a month when I go see my chiropractor it’s amazing. Looks like a fun time! Hope your push ups went well girlie.

Kerry June 26, 2010 at 10:15 am

definitely love massages! soo dreamy!! lol! I love doing massages aswell! Equally as good, weird! xx

Michelle June 26, 2010 at 10:33 am

Have a GREAT time at your shower!!!!!!!!!!!! So exciting :-)

Katharina June 26, 2010 at 12:04 pm

Hellooo gorgeous! OH my goodness facials are soo awesome. When I was 15 I went to beauty school and I part of the curriculum was to actually do the things we were learning about (how to do facials). So we would practice on each other and clients. It was amazing to get a free facial every week. My skin was so radiant and smooth. My mom says I should give myself facials at home, but it’s not just the same because part of it is the mental relaxation, you know? Of course you know now! hehehe.

I had to laugh at that picture with Marshall running back lol. It’s like slow motion hahaha. That art festival looks like so much fun. Such a little cutie patootie Kaia is! And holla at the free Chobani! That’s so sweet of you to give the rest to Marshall.. it must suck to only be able to have soft foods : I remember when I got my wisdom teeth pulled. I was so frustrated that I just started to eat foods that required chewing anyway, and I ended up getting dry sockets. Not good!

OH! And congrats on finding your wedding dress. Words can’t explain how happy and excited I am for you. I wish that I could give you a huge hug in person because that’s just what I want to do! lol

1. I don’t think are any annually things I go to… but there are things that I end up usually going to anyway. Like the crazy Calle 8 down in Miami lol. There are some things up in Richmond that I wish I could go to annually but I’m always down in Florida when they come around. There’s the annual Watermelon Festival.. and then there are two events called Best Friends Day (made it to that last year) and Slaughter-a-mama. Both of those last two events are pretty insane. I made it to BFD last year and it’s at a water park out in the country and crust punks and anyone from everywhere who wants to go come out here and get sooo wasted. And Slaughter-a-rama is also something that a bunch of people from everywhere come to Richmond and get wasted yet again but have bike competitions.. like housting.. or chicken fights. People get bloody and super dirty so maybe it’s better I haven’t made it to any of those yet lol.

2. I’d have to go with a facial–soooooo relaxing gaaah. OH! A funny story from my beautiful school days. So I was doing a paraffin treatment on a woman’s back.. well she got so relax that she full on let a big one out lol. I was silently cracking up to myself and she kind of woke herself up with the fart and sedately said “ohhh I’m sorryyyy, I’m just so relaxeddd”

XOXO

they have a gay pride parade here in chicago that is really popular. i have never been but i’m going tomorrow for the first time :)

im not a huge fan of art fairs. actually its a love hate relationship. i want EVERYTHING and i really want to support local artists but they’re so expensive :(

fav spa treatment is a massage for sure. i’ve had a mud wrap and a facial before. not a fan.

actorsdiet June 26, 2010 at 1:55 pm

looks like so much fun! go utah!

my fave spa treatment – hot jade stone massage. had my first one recently and it was intensely awesome.

Kelly June 26, 2010 at 2:40 pm

How fun! Looks like a great night!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend cutie pie!

Mel June 26, 2010 at 3:12 pm

1. what once-a-year events do you go to in your town?
A TON! I live in the Austin area. Batfest, SXSW, ACL, Keep Austin Weird, Trail of Lights, etc. The list is endless!

2. photofacial. Hurts like heck though, but totally worth it. Wish my sister still worked at the spa, because I can’t afford it on my own.

Maya June 26, 2010 at 5:37 pm

I can’t think of any event in particular that I must go to, but I do love eating al fresco in the summertime. Love, love, love.

I too love to look at art! I could spent my life in an art museum (preferably modern).

HAVE A GREAT BRIDAL SHOWER!

Erica June 26, 2010 at 5:42 pm

I can’t forgive you for missing flashback friday…you only have about a MILLION things going on ;) Looks like a fun festival. The dishes look super pretty. I love funky shaped bowls. The chobani mobile! Its not coming to Charleston…I was bummed. Cool that you got to hit it up! Hope the shower was fun <3

hayleycepeda June 26, 2010 at 6:53 pm

What a cool art festival!! I especially like the Chobani bus..teehee…no seriously though – it looks like there was lots of neat stuff to check out. You and your friend are so stinkin’ cute as is her daughter.

I so know what you mean about facials! My best friend paid for me to have one at my bachelorette party and it was just so, “aaahhhh…” I’d have to say that massages are still my favorite though, and I’ve heard stone massages are the bomb. I had a prenatal massage in Greece and it was probably one of the best massages I’ve ever had! Even though the lady giving it was very cold and unfriendly..heheheh…I actually fell asleep!!

I just realized the Tofu Xpress giveaway ended today..EEEEEEEE!!!!!! If I don’t win I might have to suck it up and buy my own…but I still really really REALLY REALLY hope I win!!! :)

lisa June 26, 2010 at 6:57 pm

the cream & sugar sets are so cute- I want a set!!!
as for spa treatments,
i love getting pedicures! I also love when they do your nails and they wrap your hands in the warm towel. my favorite part :) !

Whole Body Love June 26, 2010 at 6:58 pm

The big thing in my hometown is the Church Picnic… I’m Catholic so we have a beer tent along with karaoke and about 20 games and BINGO! The cake walk was the stand that my family was always in charge of. I missed in this year :(

The other biggie is the fair. My sister was in the Junior Fair Queen pageant a couple of years ago. The pageants are fun. I won “Little Miss Pigtails” when I was 5 :) It was put on by the local pork producers. I loved it bc I got a crown and sash. The fair also has horse races, demolition derby (sp?) and tractor pulls. Of course there are 4H tents and fair food… yum

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) June 26, 2010 at 8:59 pm

growing up i never ever missed the state fair or this thing called the uptown art festival (grew up in MN) and yours looks so similar to ours..local and regional artisans, really cool amazing creative stuff, but pricey. Cream and sugar set…i want it!

Heat and coffee BOTH kill my appetite. Seriously in AZ I had to force myself to eat the entire 9 mos i lived there. Food is just not on the brain in 114F. Ever. A/C is!

Your friends, i.e. Kaia’s mom, looking sassy! Here’s to all the MILFs!

xo

MelissaNibbles June 27, 2010 at 3:54 am

Wow! I want to go to there so bad! I want the mirrors, the cream and sugar sets, the drawings Marshall was looking at…that festival would be very bad for my wallet!

I’ve never had a facial, but I like getting massages. I really should get a facial though. My face is toe-up!!

I don’t go to any festivals in my town because they don’t have any. I go to farmers markets in my area. Does that count?

I hope your shower was fun and you got lots of cool gifties!

Marissa June 27, 2010 at 5:30 am

I always go to our town’s Okra Strutt! I think its amazing that there is a place in the world that celebrates a slimy green vegetable, hahah. I also like going up to Gilbert for the Peach Festival! That’s next month and I’m excited–CHEAP PEACHES THE SIZE OF YOUR HEAD!!

Holly at Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices June 27, 2010 at 7:09 am

Can’t tell you how much I agree with you about paying for the 5k. I’m the same way! I was going to run in one like 2 weekends ago..but it was like $35- crazy. So I just did my own 3.1 miles- instead of paying the fee. I can see paying for a 1/2 marathon or marathon..but $35 for a 5k just seems a bit steep.
The art festival looks really fun :) Cute pictures!!
& I love the cream & sugar set that you got!!

Meg June 27, 2010 at 8:50 am

Raspberry Chobani sounds amazing! I love festivals like that – the people you see out and about are so interesting sometimes too, haha. Strut your mutt sounds fun too.

I think my most favorite spa treatment would have to be a massage – glad you got a chance to get a facial – that’s awesome and you totally deserve it!

Enjoy your Sunday, Janetha!!

julie June 27, 2010 at 4:26 pm

hahahaha i feel like in your life (in a totally awesome ironic way) the chobs bus WOULD show up hahaha. glad you snagged a raspberry! i’ve been meaning to get my dirty paws on real raspberries this weekend but my bladder and wallet wouldnt allow it on the way out east :)

Kristie June 27, 2010 at 5:16 pm

That art festival looks like a blast. I love town events like that! Unfortunately we don’t have a ton of cool ones around here, at least not that I ever hear about. We get the Busker Festival? I check that out once in a while, they’ve got stilt walkers and such, mildly amusing haha.

I’ve never had a spa treatment of ANY kind. SO deprived. I think I’d make my first a pedi though I would seriously love a massage right now!

Laura @ Starloz June 27, 2010 at 5:51 pm

I dont have any events i go to but boy this one looks fun.

i love yogurt & fruit, seriously yumminess.

the weather ALWAYS effects the way i eat.

Hip to be a Square June 28, 2010 at 1:23 am

Yay for arts festivals! When I was in Indiana, I went to Art Around the Fountain every year with my parents.
My favorite spa treatment is a deep tissue massage. You know, the kind that hurts so good and leaves you feeling like jelly. *sigh*

Tamizn June 29, 2010 at 3:00 am

I love a good massage and a facial its been ages but after my weekend camping I feel the need to indulge! x x
