in meals,moves

i am all over the place. you know how when you think about one thing, and that thought leads to another thing, and so on and so forth?

yeah. that is how planning a wedding is.

too many things to think about, one thing leading to another, and only one janetha brain to do all that thinking. throw some house hunting into the mix and that is just enough to put me over the edge.

i think i need a massage ;)

LUCKILY i have my amazing mom’s and family members’ brains to help with all this thinking. marshall has been really helpful too :)

anyway, to keep with the all-over-the-place theme, how about a totally random post that recaps some shenanigans as of late?

sure, ok.

thursday night.

i went to my parents’ house and did deb’s amazing power plate workout on my mom’s shaker machine.  i did all of deb’s moves and added a few of my own:

this routine i did 3 times through~ all on the machine:

  • 1 min standard squat
  • 1 min reverse lunges (alternating legs)
  • 1 min sumo squat
  • 1 min single leg squat (30 seconds each leg)
  • 1 min 40# stiff leg deadlifts
  • 1 min plank
  • 1 min v-ups

it only took 21 minutes total and i have intense DOMS in my hams and glutes! if you can get your hands on a power plate (or shaker machine, as my mom and i so lovingly call it!) then DO THIS WORKOUT!

after the workout i made dinner for my parents, marshall and myself.

i took this recipe from cooking light magazine~

roasted chicken with balsamic glazed bell peppers + garlic mashed yukon gold potatoes + steamed asparagus + green salad:

this chicken recipe was AWESOME! and it was so, so easy. everyone should try it :)

the chicken had a dry rub of fennel, black pepper, salt and oregano.  i seared each side for about 3 minutes and then finished the breasts off in the oven for about 12 minutes. the chicken came out moist and flavorful.

the balsamic bell peppers stole the show. i served them on top of the chicken and they made every bite seem like a party in my mouth. who knew fennel and balsamic paired so well together??

for the potatoes, my mom mashed the yukon golds with a couple cloves of garlic and a splash of skim milk and a sprinkle of parsley for color.

the other sides were great as well, they made for a colorful, veggie-filled dinner.

i spy avocado~ love that healthy fat!

i don’t understand how people can hate asparagus.

all in all it was a great evening!

friday night.

my good friend corey has a clothing/art store called fice.  my three good friends (nick, james and dave) who are tattoo artists have their art on display at fice and friday was the gallery stroll to debut their artwork.

it was fabulous. i have such talented friends! here are a few examples of their art~

(you may recognize this piece, it is hanging in my office)

if you live in the SLC, go to fice and check out their stuff! and buy it! oh and buy super cute clothes from corey, too! nothing wrong with a little promotional word, right?

after the gallery stroll we went to bombay house for some indian food. YES.

appetizer plate:

chicken curry & chicken tikka masala:

paratha (layered indian wheat bread) & garlic naan:

glorious. i could never get sick of eating indian food.

saturday stuff.

i didn’t take many photos saturday.  i think i have been WAY too busy to think about eating let alone photographing my eats. it’s been a weird week.

i DID have a glorious greek yogurt mess saturday morning. oh man. i missed these bowls.

this had:

  • 1 cup oikos
  • 1/2 cup kashi go lean
  • 1/4 cup brown rice crisps
  • handful of beek’s chia granola
  • hearty dollup of NATURALLY MORE!

my FAVORITE peanut butter.. i haven’t had it since before my jamaica challenge.. which means i haven’t had it since december! i finally bought a new jar. reunited and it tastes so good.

saturday was busy. i was on the phone A LOT. turns out that the date we picked for our wedding is VERY popular and many of the venues i had in mind were already booked.  i was frustrated like woah.  i kept at it and eventually made some appointments.  marshall and i went to check out a place, LOVED it immediately and, long story short, we booked a wedding location!!! i will show you guys photos of the place soon, but i am saving that for another post that will be all things wedding. hold tight.

today was a lot more mellow which was nice.  i was able to wake up and have some yoats~ so glad to see everyone in blog land is fully enjoying yoatgurt as much as i do!! it is fun to see all your concoctions. i should dedicate a post just to the glorious yoats, no?

we did some house hunting (online) this morning and then around 1:30 i decided to head to the gym.  i got my new oxygen! magazine so i knew i had one place i wanted to be: the stairmill.

the stairmill and i hadn’t hung out since before jamaica so it was a nice treat to get back on my favorite piece of cardio equipment.  i set the timer to 60 minutes, level 11, interval training and opened my magazine.  i was not even 2/3 of the way through the mag and the machine told me i was done.  the time literally flew by.. yes, the new issue of oxygen is just THAT good. go pick a copy up! my final stats for the workout: 60 minutes, 6.07 miles, max HR 164, ave HR 141, total calories 424.

so, as you can see, the stairmill does not get your heart rate up very high, but it does a stellar job at burning calories.

after the gym, marshall and i headed to my parents’ for family dinner. i drank this on the way:

officially addicted. cheaper than cigarettes!

my mom cooked this time around and she did a fantastic job!

on the menu was chicken & rice casserole, broccoli, green salad, rolls & fresh fruit.

she forgot to make a part of the casserole with brown rice, but you know what i say? a little white rice never killed anyone.

my plate:

a bit of everything in the savory department.

i finished my meal off with a freshly baked roll and my mom’s homemade raspberry jam which she made just this afternoon!

we won’t talk about how much sugar goes into the very best jam in the entire world, ok? deal.

i also nibbled on some grapes & pears for dessert~

after dinner, we all relaxed and chatted about all things wedding. there is a lot to plan! i am overwhelmed!!

penny and randy went outside and penny came back with this mondo sized bone~ no idea where it came from!

poor randy didn’t have a chance at getting any action in with that bone.

it’s a hard life.

WELL, was this post long enough for you? hope so.

i have been thinking a lot about things i want to add to the blog. i am working on a new layout and i also have tons of new pages in mind, i just don’t have the time to type them all up. SO~ my first Q will pertain to that whole situation. get ready for it.

hope you all have a fantastic week. can you even BELIEVE it is the last week of february?! i can’t. so nuts.

tune in tomorrow for more regularly scheduled rambling.

1. of the following, which would you prefer to see me put up first: more meal pages, more moves pages (and do you want cardio moves or weight training moves?), a FAQ page or a “favorite products” page? i am planning to do them all, but i would like to see what you guys prefer i do first!

My favorite green veggie is DEFINITELY brussels sprouts. Roasted b. sprouts might even be my favorite food.

Enjoy wedding planning – it goes by too fast! (Not that getting married is anything to dread ;) )

Great post! All things I love: kombucha, asparagus, yogurt messes and Oxygen Mag!

Heather Eats Almond Butter February 22, 2010 at 6:19 pm

I’ve never understood how people can hate asparagus either. I LOVE IT, stinky pee and all. However, I think my favorite green veg would have to be either broccoli or Brussels.

Super jealous your mom has a power plate. That is awesome.

Best of luck with all the wedding stuff Janetha. It’s all going to fall into place, and your special day will be perfect!

“cheaper than cigarettes”…I gotta remember that line. ;)

Laura February 22, 2010 at 7:58 pm

Whole Body Love February 22, 2010 at 8:34 pm

I love the meals! I am a Natty More addict! It’s the only reason I go to WalMart…no one else carries it!! I would also like to see more “moves” as in examples of workouts maybe with example pics too!! I love those!

Kristie February 22, 2010 at 8:42 pm

I love Fav products pages! Or an FAQ fo sho!
As for green veg, totally on the spinach or steamed brocc bandwagon. Spinach probably wins though since I eat it pretty much every. single. day.

Love the yoats. Love the indian. Love the puppies :)
Now I really want to see this wedding venue!!!

simplyshaka February 22, 2010 at 9:09 pm

2. You named ’em, my favorite green veggies= asparagus, broccoli, and spinach too!

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) February 24, 2010 at 11:27 pm

What’s not to love about asparagus, except of course HEab’s comment: stinky pee!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Stair master stepmill. It takes me nearly a month to read an Oxygen (I need to read every.single.word.) WOw to nearly finish in one workout is stellar.

I read your blog for your witty banter, not the content- KIDDING! It’s allll good- whatever you choose is fabo.

Yay on the DOMS from the shake-n-baker machine. I did it today-only 17 minutes and I can ALREADY feel the doms setting in!!???!!!

Green veg= avocado (oops that’s a fruit). Hmm. spinach.
