flashback friday round sixteen.

by Janetha on December 11, 2009

in meals

it’s friday night.. and the moooood is right!  gonna have some fun, show you how it’s done T-G-I-F!

ummm is it just me that remembers ABC’s theme song for the friday night quartet of shows that they referred to as TGIF? i don’t know about you, but when i was a kid it was all about TGIF.  i watched it when the shows inclded full house, family matters & step by step.. haha~ohhh back in the day. i guess that is as good a way as any to start out a flashback friday post, right?

okay, maybe that was a little off base.. you will have to forgive me, i have been downing cold meds all day and night. yes~you heard me right.. i think i may be coming down with something. but i’ve busted out the big guns (aka airborne, emergenC, zicam and lots of tea) and i WILL show this lingering sickness who is boss.

my night off last night was great! the jazz won and streamers fell from the sky and all was fabulous in basketball land.  let’s rewind to dinner which was at squatters brewery~

and although yesterday was national lager day i didn’t participate in the consuming of brew.  well, not the alcoholic brew, at least.. i did consume some of this brew:

mmm. coffee. the hot drink of champions.

i kept it on the healthy side and ordered the squatters wrap: all natural diced chicken breast, mixed greens, cucumber, tomato, red onion and artichoke garlic cream cheese in a whole wheat tortilla

obviously i caved and ordered the SP fries. i was originally going to get soup or salad on the side but SP fries are kryptonite para mi!!

i asked for the artichoke cream cheese on the side.. i figured they would bring a little rammakin of cream cheese or something.  i actually didn’t even want the cream cheese at all but asked for it on the side in case the wrap was dry.  here is what i got:

oh gee.. thanks for the VAT of cream cheese.

needless to say, that gigantor bowl of nonsense was not consumed.

dinner was fantastic~ i had the chance to talk to my friend tyler about some bloggie upgradage. hope he can help me get things fancied up around here. he is a dope freelance designer! check out his website :)

the game was good times!

IMG_9107 IMG_9102 IMG_9103 IMG_9104

our cute friends, not so much nerds like the marsh and i.IMG_9106

to reconfirm the fact that marshall and i are indeed the nerdiest kids on the block, i will show you the shenanigans that ensued around midnight last night, when we got home from the game:

first marshall picked up all 3 dogs.. at once..

IMG_9108 IMG_9110

that is a lot of dog.

then randy put on my new scarf!

houndstooth for the hound. he is not impressed.

yulek wanted to see what it was all about~

and penny did not want to feel left out either..

uhhh ok, i will stop now.

this morning when i got in my car to drive to work i immediately regretted my wardrobe choice of jeans, a sweatshirt, a beanie and gloves and was wishing i had picked shorts and a tank top instead.

i felt like ass this morning and i didn’t even eat a third of my cinnamon protein oats~

that is cinnamon peanut butter you see. too bad it went to waste and i threw it out. i really had no appetite.

i had a busy day with LOTS of running around and once two o’clock rolled around i decided i should try to eat something..

glamorous, i know.

didn’t workout today. since i am feeling ill i decided to designate today my rest day!  i came home and had some of my roommate’s throat soothing tea~

IMG_9155 IMG_9158IMG_9157

fact: tea tastes better when you drink it from a snowman mug.

i eventually managed to eat. on the menu? pita pocket stuffed with turkey & cheddar & homemade sunflower seed hummus~

yes i took photos of my pita on my pool table. so what? it makes for a nice canvas.

and that just was not enough carb consumption (i crave carbs when i am sick. wait, who am i kidding? i crave carbs 24/7.) so i had another pita+more hummus.. i know some people who would be so proud :)

with a side of my new issue of oxygen.. yessss!

and now i am blogging.

flashback friday time!

turns out a year ago today i was doing some food blogging without even knowing about food blogs.

on december 7th 2008 i whipped up a recipe that i made up: broiled flank steak over caramelized mushrooms & onions with a balsamic reduction glaze, served with asparagus

if you click on the link you can see my original blog post on this recipe!

here is a photo of the finished product~

12-07-08 038

a tad amateur, as you can tell~i used the flash. but this is a really yummy recipe! check it out if you are into that sort of thing.

i also tried to do some laundry that night but was interrupted..

i spy a baby penelope head!

on december 15th 2008 i made another recipe up~ a chicken & spinach salad with a balsamic dijon dressing..

uploads 045

a little on the ugly side! but i remember it was delish. i made the dressing with three ingredients:

uploads 028

yup, i have always been an oikos lover!

my real claim to fame for this flashback post would be the meal that i whipped up on december 17th 2008…

yes. i was just your average iron chef ;)

12-17-08 061

side note.. i am wearing that same hat this very second! ha.

loin of pork with fennel + green green spring vegetables

12-17-08 066

the recipe for the pork loin was ina garten’s and can be found here.  the vegetables were featured in the same episode and the recipe can be found here.

this was my first pork loin ever! it was actually a lot simpler to make than i expected. here are some of the step by step photos~

12-17-08 068

for the record.. it was scrumptious!

and to finally top off the flashback friday~ i bring you a few snow-filled videos from december 13th, 2008.. right before i went snowboarding i snagged some footage of puppy penelope! enjoy!

it is nowhere near as snowy this year~penelope jane says PRAY FOR SNOW!!

12-19-08 011

Ohhh I need some of that throat tea so scratchy :( I crave Pace’s coke when sickly but haven’t caved in for years–yeah for me! I have some Aveda herb tea I LoVE perhaps I will go have some with an airborne chaser!! Xoxo

Nicci@NIftyEats December 12, 2009 at 12:04 am

Great Flashback Friday, I love green tea! I’m downing it 24/7, good stuff

Susan December 12, 2009 at 4:00 am

I’ve haven’t attempted to make pork yet!! I hear it’s incredibly easy, but for some reason still intimidates me. One animal at a time I guess ;)

I’m actually impressed by Marshall’s dog holding skillz. Basset hounds are heavy!!!

1. I crave carbs too. Namely, eggs and toast.

2. Black tea, peppermint tea and rooibos are the only kinds I drink. I’m not a huge tea person though, I prefer coffee or just a glass of water :)

Lauren December 12, 2009 at 5:14 am

Ah! TGIF!!! As soon as that song came on, I knew it was show time! Such love for this time when I was little. :) Full House was my favorite!!!

OMG, I have that same scarf. I love it!!! I got mine in China Town in NYC a few years ago and I thought I was so sheek because I was the only one with it, but now I see it EVERYWHERE!!! Guess I could have gotten one at Kohls for a whole lot cheaper. Oh well, it’s still my favorite scarf.

Love you FF memories! It’s so great to be able to have recipes saved. I use my Blog as my cookbook and it’s wonderful! :)

Have a wonderful weekend love.

sandysays1 December 12, 2009 at 5:44 am

hayleycepeda December 12, 2009 at 5:45 am

Seriously you are so awesome Janetha…EVERY Friday night I find myself singing the ABC TGIF, “Gonna have some fun show you how it’s done TGIF!” theme song. It never gets old! I used to love Full House, Family Matters and Step by Step. Good times…

The pics of Marshall holding all 3 of your dogs is hilarious – he’s a crack up!! Of course you know I love the animal pics anyway…sooo cute!!

That hat looks super good on you!

8 degrees…holy hell…I guess I can’t complain about the 28 degrees we had here last night!

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is December 12, 2009 at 6:03 am

Ohmigosh I LOVED TGIF. Did you also watch Snick on Nikelodeon?? Loved that, too. When I’m sick I crave carby foods – like grilled cheese and soups. And I don’t like tea, at all. Not sweet enough for me!

ellie December 12, 2009 at 6:23 am

Ahh!! I loved TGIF :) I was singing right along with you at the beginning of the post!!

Graze With Me December 12, 2009 at 8:44 am

I’ve never taken a photo of food before I became a blogger….it’s funny that you used to. Sweet potato fries are my weakness as well. Hope your sickness goes away!!

1) I always want sweet carbs like cookies, cakes and oatmeal. Oh and ginger ale even though I NEVER drink pop.

2) I’m with you on the English Breakfast, with a sprinkle of stevia and some soy milk.

Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) December 12, 2009 at 10:13 am

THANKS J for the shoutout at the end!!!!!!!!!! I may not be as raw or as perfect or exotic or as pure as some of the other raw ladies out there, but gosh darnit, I’m up for the sexiest award…I’ll take it!! :”)

And the artichoke cream cheese…well I cant do dairy but girl that sounds soooo good. Wow. I wish I could b/c I woulda dipped the sweet pot fries in that. Like 1 fry per 1/2 half the ramekin. I love my condiments. And you too :)

greetings from the warmth :) and I am sooo happy for you and your get away soon. As for M not really having it fully together on all $ fronts…well girl, that’s the story of the generation I think. Scott is 17 yrs older than me otherwise ummm I would be in your shoes no doubt.

Sweet Cheeks December 12, 2009 at 10:20 am

Ok I literally just had the hugest smile on my face watching those videos..hahahah I am in LOVE with her!

inmytummy December 12, 2009 at 5:27 pm

I loved TGIF especially Full House. I thought DJ Tanner was soooo cool.

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) December 12, 2009 at 7:52 pm

OK time for my random comments: squatters brewery is an unfortunate name for a restaurant no?

Baby penny head in the laundry- kills me- you know Sam does that and I die every time.

Penny gnawing on your snow suit while saying “GRrrrr” is so funny (except for your snow suit).

OK the flank steak looks like penises on a plate- Sorry but I had to say it! :-)

Love the Houndstooth on the hound and the triple-arm-o-love.

When I’m sick I crave nothing. Sometimes I wish I got sick more often. Tea: chai baby! LOVE me some chai. But love almost all other black teas too and green.

Still in Canada- it was a balmy 5 degrees here- I almost stripped off naked and walked to lunch that way!

Allie (Live Laugh Eat) December 12, 2009 at 8:45 pm

Hahaha favorite line: “i felt like ass”

I crave yogurt–is that totally weird!? haha

So many cute cute cute doggies in this post!

Brittany December 12, 2009 at 8:56 pm

I love your TGIF start to the post. I used to love TGIF but I was a watcher then Boy Meets World was on- I loved that show.

When I start feeling sick I pop vitamin C, emergen-c, Umcka, and drink tea like it’s my job.

Hope you feel better soon!

Julia December 12, 2009 at 9:35 pm

Hmmm…what do I crave when I’m sick. Depends what kind of sick – when I have a head cold, def. carbs, except that I can never taste them…sad.

My fave tea is green tea, but if I drink too much of it, I get jittery – I don’t handle caffeine very well.

Feel better!

Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) December 13, 2009 at 7:05 am

I crave toast + eggs, esp runny yolk poached eggs!

And I love English Breakfast Tea, Chai tea, and Egyptian Licorice Yogi Tea!

Erica December 13, 2009 at 7:12 am

You guys are so freaking cute. I love all of the pictures. Your puppers are adorable too- Randy is my favorite. I just love animals that look like sad old men (hence Frank haha). Great eats. I love SP fries (much better than a salad ;)).

I hope you feel better

I crave soup, coffee and ice cream when I’m sick.

…I don’t do tea. I wish I liked it

glidingcalm December 13, 2009 at 9:11 am

Naomi(onefitfoodie) December 13, 2009 at 9:52 am

Thanks for stopping by x x x

Adi (oatonomy.com) December 13, 2009 at 1:58 pm

I could never pick a favourite tea! It would be like asking an alcoholic to pick a favourite boozey beverage. Tea is the best.

And I definitely remember TGIF! I loved those shows. My mom wouldn’t let me and my sisters watch all of Step by Step though because we had to get up early to deliver Saturday morning newspapers.

Lynn at The Actors Diet December 13, 2009 at 2:21 pm

i love chai tea – with milk and honey. yum!

Sarah December 14, 2009 at 9:58 pm

you have the CUTEST hats. You are one of those people that totally rocks every hat.

And I love that you dressed randy in houndstooth. Janetha you kill me!!! In a good way of course. :)

I crave ice cream when I am sick. I usually don’t eve crave ice cream, so when I crave it I know I am gettin’ the sniffles.

My favorite tea is sugar cookie sleigh ride. I seriously have boxed upon boxes stocked up right now for when the holidays leave us in the dust.
