one week down! december goal check in.

by Janetha on December 8, 2009

in meals,moves

hola amigas! y amigos? perhaps. everyone having a good week?  i sure am!  mainly because there has been LOADS of snow falling from the sky!  sure it took me quadruple the time to get to work this morning (not exaggerating) but i loooove the snow! so the extra time it takes to commute is fine by me.

first off~i was SO surprised that a lot of you had no idea what wassail is!  it is just a fancy way of saying spiced apple cider~and man.. it is delicious! try it!

i want to say holler to my new readers and also heyyy to the lovely ladies who have delurked as of late. makes me happy. keep it up :)

TWO items of business!

  1. i have added an email subscription option to my page, over there to your right—–>  if you subscribe, you can get my posts emailed to you. mom, this one has your name all over it!
  2. holly still needs to raise $1000 to build a well in cambodia!! if you have not donated yet, please do! every dollar counts and i know everyone can spare at least a buck (or five!) :) CLICK HERE!

quick rundown of today’s meals & moves then a goal check in at the end.. ready, go!

i didn’t have the time and/or motivation to take photos of all my eats today but here are a few of the highlights~

mighty maple+cinnamon protein oats (rolled oats+oatbran mix)

check it out! 17 days until santa :)

nom nom nom.

i am going to show you my mid-afternoon protein shake only because of the amazing mug i used!

chocolate banana peanut butter protein shake in a snowman head!

IMG_8970 IMG_8972

clearly i am really excited about it..

so, on the work front, i hired an assistant today! she starts january 4th and my life is gong to be 22 times better as far as work goes. happy janetha b.

i was planning to do lower body at the gym tonight but i felt like working up a sweat so i switched to cardio and i will do legs tomorrow. i’m breezy!

20 minutes on stairmill:

  • 1 min level 3
  • 1 min level 6
  • 1 min level 8
  • 1 min level 10
  • 1 min level 12
  • repeat 3 more times

5 minutes 15% incline walking @ 4.0 MPH on treadmill

run 1 mile on treadmill: 8 minutes 41 seconds

not too bad! the total workout took under a half hour and i was dripping in sweat afterward. it felt great until i went out into the bitter cold and all my sweat basically froze on the spot and i became a human popsicle!

thennn girls dinner out! at citrus grill. i always order the cobb salad there and get it with no bacon, extra chicken~

its not as large and in charge as it looks~that is a pretty small plate. and i took care of the whole thing.  i did have a little chipotle ranch on the side that i dipped my fork in as i ate the salad.

after dinner i went and checked out my old roomies’ new house. MISS THEM.  their new place is adorable and it was great to see the cat & dog i used to live with.  it was so funny~when i got home penelope was sniffing me non-stop.  she could smell nalla (roomie’s old dog)! it was adorable. she must really miss her friend :)

now penny and i are cuddled up by the fire and i am typing this.. fabulous way to end a snowy day.  just wish i had been up on the slopes and not stuck in my office ;)

december goal check in!

well one week has gone by~it is hard to believe the month is flying by so fast!  i wanted to check in on my goals because i know i have been lagging on a few of them and i need to kick myself in the caboose.

you can check out my original december goals post here.

  1. eat less. i meant no more bites, licks and tastes~ there had been WAY too many of those lately.  this past week i have found myself reaching for the wasabi peas or the roomie’s goldfish time and time again and remembering my goal and STOPPING myself.  i can definitely say the BLT’s have been reduced but not eliminated.. so, i would say this goal is going good, i hope to do better the rest of the month.  if i had to put a number on it, i would say i made it 4 out of the 7 days with NO extra bites, licks and tastes~and the 3 that i did cave were very minimal.
  2. move more. this one has been going good!  on my cardio days i have been doing at least 10 minutes extra and i have also been walking around at work more.  i even did some calf raises on the stairs today.  going good!!
  3. drink a gallon of water a day. i don’t have a hard time with this one until the weekend.  i drank a gallon every day up until saturday and then saturday and sunday AND monday i failed.  so i got 4 out of 7 on that one.  got my gallon in today though! i am determined to get it in every day this week.
  4. remember to take vitamins & supplements. ugh. can we skip this one?  i think i remembered twice.  i totally need to fill up my pill keeper and make sure to take them!
  5. finish unpacking/stay tidy. so far.. fail. have not had a spare minute to do any more unpacking and my car is still a nightmare of a mess. good thing i am checking in with myself because i have failed miserably at this one!
  6. print out photos and hang them in my room/office. another fail. moving on!
  7. eat out less. i had the goal to eat out only once during the week and only twice on the weekend. YES.. i did great at this one! i didn’t eat out at all during the week and yes, i did eat out twice saturday. good job to me.
  8. add one meal and one move to their respective pages on the blog each week. i was an overachiever in this department. i added multiple new moves and also a new meal. yes.
  9. try new workouts. this one has been going good! the stairmill routine i did today was new, i did a superset workout on sunday that was new, i did a few new HIIT routines and i also did new lower/upper body exercises during the week. this one i have done great at!
  10. make more of an effort to keep in touch. this was regarding my friends AND family.  i have been doing awesome on this one. i worked out with my nephews one night and my niece another night. i talked to my sister from cali on the phone last night (her effort!) and i have seen my parents this week.  i also saw my sister in law on sunday.  as far as the friends thing goes~i went snowboarding with two really good old friends on sunday and tonight i had a girl’s dinner.  i also saw a ton of friends at the holiday party. check check check!

well there you have it~one week down and i can see where i need work.  i am glad i can keep myself in check!

it is past 11 PM now so i am going to go.  i feel pretty bad that my reader has been up past 300 all week~sorry, i just have been really busy :/ i will catch up with you all slowly but surely! love you all <3

1. favorite kind of salad dressing? maybe i’ve asked this before but not in ages. my favorite is homemade ranch.. none of the bottled crap! it has to be from scratch.

2. where do  you live and what is the weather like right now? i am LOVING all this snow in the SLC! FINALLY!!

bonus Q: if you set some, how are your december goals panning out so far?

I make my favorite dressing. Here’s the recipe

I’ve also been just slightly obsessed with Trader Joe’s Goddess Dressing as of late.

My December goal was to increase my flexed arm hang time because I’m preparing for the HKC (kettlebell certification through Dragon Door) I honestly don’t know how I’m doing b/c I haven’t been as committed as I should have been. :( I hope I pass my prerequisite next month.

BTW I know I’ve told you this before but you’ve got the CUTEST dogs!

I’m in southern California so we are a little spoiled with great weather. So when it drops below 50 we all freeze, whine, and complain. It’s was in the high 40’s today….brrrrrrrrr! It’s supposed to rain the rest of the week.

The Foodie Diaries December 8, 2009 at 11:50 pm

i neeeed to start with the mas agua thing. i think i max out at 2 cups a day… malo

tus preguntas:
-fave salad dressing is a simple balsamic + honey blend. it’s my go-to…
-and NUEVA YORK–torrential downpour aaaaaaaaalllll day manana

Megan December 8, 2009 at 11:53 pm

I’m coming out of my finals hibernation to tell you..

I BOUGHT THAT SAME EXACT MUG TODAY!! <3 <3 <3 love snowmen!!

Tamzin December 9, 2009 at 1:37 am

Well I think your doing pretty well with the goals! Mine aren’t going to badly exercise is going well, I have only had treats twice so hopefully I can keep it up!
My favorite salad dressing is a drizzle of toasted sesame oil I love it!
I live in Hastings on the south coast of England and the weather is wet, windy and very GREY!

Tina December 9, 2009 at 2:13 am

I’m printing out your goals and using them as my own – these would all be very good for me :P

I love any sweet dressing. The last great one I’ve had was honey-mustard I think…
I’m in Holland right now and it’s wet and dreary and ugly and boring.. blegh.. I wanna be where the snow is!!!

P.S. I want you mug!

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is December 9, 2009 at 4:40 am

I’m not really a fan of any salad dressing. I do like vinegar on occasion. I live in Pittsburgh and it’s a rain/snow mix. I wish it was all snow!

Quinn December 9, 2009 at 4:47 am

1. I actually don’t like dressing. Weird, I know.

2. Washington, DC and it’s POURING rain!

Go you with your December goals!

Katey December 9, 2009 at 5:30 am

I love ranch on veggies, but Italian on salads! :)

Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) December 9, 2009 at 5:54 am

Favorite salad dressing? Honey dijon, or home made ranch- I haven’t had it in so long though! It is hard to come by!

I am in Rhode Island and it is pouring rain/a LITTLE snow… I wish it would make up it’s mind!

And my Dec. goals are going okay… not 100% but I’m working on it! Good luck with yours!!

Lauren December 9, 2009 at 5:57 am

Yay for hiring an assistant!!! That is awesome and I am sure your life will be 10000 X easier at work.

Haha, when you talked about ordering a Cobb Salad at Girls Night Dinner that totally reminded me of the scene in Julie and Julia when she meets her girls for Girls Lunch and they ALL order the Cobb Salad but each w/out a certain ingredient. So cute! :)

Great job on your December Goals!!! It’s so great to be able to write them down and try our best to stay with them. You’re doing wonderful girl!! :)

I live in PA and it just snowed last night. Only about an inch but it’s still so pretty. ;)

Have a great day hun!

Emily (The Experimentarian) December 9, 2009 at 6:04 am

Two more reasons why we are cool: I ate at the sitrus grill yesterday, too! And incline walking on the treadmill is my new favorite end to a workout–I have been hitting that hard at the gym lately.

Hurray for finding as assisntat! But I have to say I’m kind of peeved she took my job ;)

P.S. You know what my weather’s like and you know how I feel about it ! xoxo

Andrea@WellnessNotes December 9, 2009 at 6:21 am

I love that you check in on your goals after a week! It’s so easy to set goals and then forget about them until the end of the month… :)

Favorite salad dressing? I usually just do a simple vinaigrette and sometimes mash some avocado into it. That’s probably my favorite dressing. Do you have a recipe for homemade ranch posted anywhere?

ellie December 9, 2009 at 6:23 am

17 days till Christmas?!!!!!!!!! YEAH! Loving the mug- too cute. Did you have your shake hot? Have you tried putting whey powder in hot coffee? I am toying with the idea. Hmmm.

1. favorite kind of salad dressing? Thousand Island, Ranch, Ceasar…basically anything creamy. But I am a sucker for tzatziki and would take that over dressing anyday.

2. where do you live and what is the weather like right now? damp, damp and more damp.

bonus Q: if you set some, how are your december goals panning out so far? I am doing a-okay on my goals!

Coco December 9, 2009 at 6:23 am

I just ate oatbran/oatmeal combo this morning and I loved it!!! I think I might have to switch from just oatbran to this combo. More chewiness!
1. I love white balsamic and olive oil. Simple and delish with arugula and fresh shaved parmesan.
2. In Boston right now it’s snowing like mad. At home in Sun Valley it’s chilly as hell and needs to snow some more!

Jessie December 9, 2009 at 6:28 am

My fave salad dressing is olive oil vinaigrette. I love thatt tanginess on my salad.

Weather in Charlotte is cold and rainy. Blah.

Holly (The Healthy Everythingtarian) December 9, 2009 at 7:08 am

JANEEEEETHA…can i come to your holiday party? that looked AWESOME. the food was ridic, and i hearted your sparkly dress. really cute :)

fave dressing..hmmm…probably straight up ranch too. none of that fat-free stuff either…it tastes like crap.

wisconsin = blizzard. the governor shut offices today – that never happens. alas, i will probably still go into work for a bit since i walk there.

THANKS FOR THE SHOUTOUT…i really appreciate it my friend :)

glad you hired an assistant – hopefully that should help make your life much less crazy!

april December 9, 2009 at 7:14 am

The countdown bowl until christmas is darling! Where did you get it??

And my water thing is the opposite! I drink a gallon of water a day too but I have a harder time doing it on the weekdays!

leianna December 9, 2009 at 7:28 am

love honey mustard, but just a little dip for the salad!
I don’t know your snow situation, but we got a blizzard here in Iowa, snowboarding would be awesome here if we had hills:)

julie December 9, 2009 at 7:30 am

currently i’m in a fishbowl. for real the rain is RIDIC like heards of it if that’s even possible.

THAT MUG IS AWESOME!!!! and your pup is too cute for words :)

way to be with the goals girl you know youre rockin it. ps i love that scarf!

Jessica December 9, 2009 at 7:53 am

cuuuuute mug babe!
ooo spiced apple cider eh? Sounds AMAZING to me.
AHhahaha I love your puppy pics! Esp the one with the nose stuffed into the carpet :D
Penny is so precious!
1. i love greek dressing … but it needs to have feta and vinegar in the ingredients … and not artificial.
2. blizzard here in nebraksa… pics later :)

Katie December 9, 2009 at 7:58 am

Love that snowman head!

A gallon is A LOT of water, girl – I wish I could drink that much, but unfortunately, my bathroom breaks are few and far between – I get like 3 a day at the MOST…boo hoo. Good for you for gettin’ it done!

It is -10 degrees and sunny here today!! We actually had a one hour delay because with the windchill it was -20 this morning. Brr!

Enjoy your snow girl! :-)

ksgoodeats December 9, 2009 at 8:08 am

Awww the pupper pictures made my heart melt! What a cutie!! I need to get that Target place mat. I love it!

1. Hummus/salsa/raspberry poppyseed/Newman’s sesame ginger (I think that’s what it’s called)
2. It’s just gray right now but it’s supposed to be super windy and cold! Boooooo!

brandi December 9, 2009 at 8:31 am

you’re so cute! love that mug :)

favorite kind of salad dressing? classic ranch is the best, but I do love a good homemade dressing, too.

2. where do you live and what is the weather like right now? Virginia – cold and rainy today :(

Lindsay December 9, 2009 at 9:28 am

I watched this Good Eats episode where Alton Brown makes old English Wassail- it has beer, wine, eggs (!!) and a bunch of crazy spices in it. Haha I think I like the sound of your version better :-)

Haleigh December 9, 2009 at 9:49 am

Congrats on your goals! I am super jealous of your mighty maple oats. They are hard to find! I had to resort to ordering some off of the internet.

I don’t really like salad dressing, I usually use balsamic vinegar, if that counts?

I live in Charlotte, NC but I will be in Sweden for a whole month over the holidays!! So excited for snow!

loserforlife December 9, 2009 at 10:29 am

Love the snowman cup!

I like all of your goals – you are doing great!

Lauren Christine. December 9, 2009 at 10:32 am

1. i just made this cinnamon cumin vinaigrette from Dreena Burton’s Eat, Drink & be Vegan, and it is fantastic! i’m planning on keeping some on hand at all times!

2. i’m in CO, and i think all the snow is dumping on you before it hits us. no fair! it’s been in the single digits, negative wind chill for the past like 4 days!! with no good snow. i’m over it!

i haven’t set any december goals yet, i’ll give it some thought today, but i’m already 9 days behind! i think i’ll start thinking about new years goals.

elise December 9, 2009 at 10:36 am

for only 1/4th of the way into dec youre doing great so cut yourself some slack m’dear.

i need to get on that water goal. seriously.

fave dressing is hummus, does that count? haha. ok i like balsamic-y things. but i still have an untouched jar of tahini that im dying to use and still dont know what to do with it :( blogger fail.

nyc = snow-less brrrrrrr

Jenny December 9, 2009 at 10:37 am

ugh I am definitely struggling getting my water intake now that the temps have dropped — summer time it was no problem.. but now I have no thirst.. I don’t suppose mass quantities of tea count as water, eh?! perhaps, perhaps?!

keep on keepin’ on sugar. *mwah!*

inmytummy December 9, 2009 at 10:54 am

I had to google wassail after your last post!

They have this Mediterranean dressing at Whole Foods that’s my favorite. I guess they make it there.

It’s actually 65 degrees today. But it’s just a fluke. Yesterday was 40 and rainy.

Tiffany S. December 9, 2009 at 11:21 am

The high is Seattle today is going to be 32! It was 1 degree is Yakima this morning. 1! Thank God I don’t live in Yakima!

Apparently my brain is so cold that I can’t figure out how your countdown placemat works. Is it write on/wipe off?

Yay on the assistant! If he/she makes your life harder, fire him/her and get a new one! No, seriously.

Stacy (Eating To Live Love Laugh Tri) December 9, 2009 at 11:28 am

Love the snowman mug AND the look on your face in that picture! You are too adorable!

burpexcuzme December 9, 2009 at 11:44 am

Sure, Janetha, you can have ALL the snow you want! Take mine too! I’m SO not looking forward to going back to VA…Brrrr!!

Hahaha! That snowman head mug is so cutee…but you’re even cuter! You’re just so pinchable, Janetha! In a good way! :D

Fave salad dressing: equal parts dijon mustard, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, and a bit of almond milk. AMAZING. Try it! Taste and test to adjust to your liking. :-)
Oh, and tuna salad, and cottage cheese makes GREAT salad dressing too!

Graze With Me December 9, 2009 at 12:16 pm

I love drinking smoothies/shakes out of mugs in the winter, the handle makes all the difference to me.

1) Hmm, I would say sesame ginger or an Asian dressing. That or the peanut dressing they put on salads at sushi restaurants.

2) Negative 25 degrees this morning!!!! BAH!

jenngirl December 9, 2009 at 1:13 pm

Okay you seriously just made me so happy with the “17 days until Santa”..ahh I can’t believe it!

1. Love me some balsamic vinagrette, but sometimes randomly I am in the mood for ranch.

2. In Mississippi, we had rain ALL day yesterday and today it is sunny, about 40 degrees and VERY windy..I’m too confused to like/dislike ;)

Sounds like you are doing great with your goals, I think you are a great example that just setting goals for yourself is half the battle of achieving them!

Sarah (Finding My Balance) December 9, 2009 at 1:28 pm

That salad looks tasty, especially with a taste of chipotle ranch.
My all-time fave salad dressing is HONEY MUSTARD (ooyeah!). Straight up balsamic is pretty good too.
Moscow: It JUST got cold. And it just snowed. Finally. I was starting to wonder when the infamous Russian winter would set in…

Erika December 9, 2009 at 1:32 pm

I love all your snowman stuff! By the way, what does SLC stand for? I haven’t been able to figure out where it is that you live. I’m in central Oregon and it’s pretty darn cold (~25-30 degrees) but at least it’s not raining right now :)

plamarie December 9, 2009 at 3:04 pm

I’ll be honest..I was a lurker. HA! I broke out of my shell in the blog world. Penny is so cute! It has been in the 20’s in PDX. I’ll take it for the beautiful sunshine any day!

Susan December 9, 2009 at 3:12 pm

Love your snowman mug!!! I totally call a stairmill workout part lower-body workout. It works my glutes like none other ;) Awesome work on your goals too!!! I don’t feel so bad when I fail at mine, setting them and putting them in motion is what matters :)

1. Balsamic vinegar. Or Renee’s poppy seed.

2. We’re getting a snow storm!!! I’m all tucked in for the evening and not thinking about the piles and piles of snow I’ll have to shovel at an ungodly hour tomorrow.

Bonus Q: Goals are coming along better this week. Getting more cleaning and studying done, which were the “big” ones for me.

Angharad (Eating for England) December 9, 2009 at 3:52 pm

Annie’s Goddess Dressing and Annie’s Sesame and Shiitake dressing both make my world go rooouuunnnnd! Love them!

I live in Minneapolis and it is cold as business! 10 degrees (it’ll get so.much.worse) and 5 inches of snow!

Congrats on your goals lady – you’re doing great!!

lowandbhold December 9, 2009 at 3:55 pm

Woo hoo! That’s so official that you have an assistant now! Glad work will be better for you!

1. Mmmmm totally agree about homemade ranch. I also love a good caesar or balsamic vinegar, no oil.
2. I’m from Oklahoma and it’s freezing-ass cold with no precip. Lame.

Lynn at The Actors Diet December 9, 2009 at 5:54 pm

it’s cold for l.a. right now – about 50 degrees. i know how obnoxious that sounds, b/c i’m from the east coast. but it’s cold for my new l.a. self!!!

hayleycepeda December 9, 2009 at 6:14 pm

I just want to say a couple of things before I comment on this post. First – THANK YOU for putting the comments link at the bottom of each post – to me that is much easier than having to scroll back up to the top! Secondly – I love your quirkiness…you always write in a way that makes me smile and keeps me entertained.

I SO wish we were having at least a bit of snow here! Even my parents, who live in Houston, got snow the other day. Not fair!

I’m totally digging your dishware…especially the Santa plate and mug! :)

Favorite salad dressing – I love Gena’s raw “peanut-less dressing” (can’t remember the exact name) and hummus + salsa…mmmm mmmm good..

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) December 9, 2009 at 7:05 pm

Your little peanut is just the cutest- yes she smelled her little friend! <3

You need to make a peppermint smoothie for Mr Snowman to drink! OR an egg-nog one!

I think you did very well on your goals considering you had 93 of them. I had one: to turn off the computer at 9pm. I was pretty successful- perhaps 5/7. maybe less. I've decided that if I aim low, I might pleasantly surprise myself :-)

Dressing: sesame asian or balsamic vin.

Weather: home I heard it's rainy, but in Banff- it's minus 22 and I went snow shoeing- i'm insane. But it was so fun!

Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) December 9, 2009 at 7:38 pm

yay for hiring an assistant :)

I love homemade ranch too. YUM!

As for my December goals; I’m working on losing 10 lbs by Jan 5th. I’m already down 2lbs. 8lbs more to go. I do need to work on the weight training though.

I should make eating out less one of my goals too!

Jenna December 9, 2009 at 8:48 pm

Whole Body Love December 9, 2009 at 9:40 pm

It was crazy windy here all night last night and it continued through tonight! It’s also so cold after dark that my hands hurt with no gloves.

lillizzy December 10, 2009 at 9:18 pm

I think I would just end it if my favorite Source yogurt was discontinued. Don’t even get my started on what would happen if oatmeal didn’t exist…

lillizzy December 10, 2009 at 9:20 pm

wow…and i totally just posted that on the wrong post…awesome Liz…awesome…my favorite dressing has got to be balsamic and dijon mixed together. The End.
