something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

in meals,moves

no.. i am not getting hitched.  but i am using this little wedding rhyme for the theme of today’s post!  but FIRST i would like to reflect back on some of the motivational tips you guys left on yesterday’s post.. because daaaang i have some clever readers!

sharing time:

  • deb: “I think it’s about re-committing and just mother f-ing DOING it!”
  • jenna:”I motivate myself by thinking of how exciting it will be to see how proper eating and training will postitively affect my body.”
  • nicci: “I motivate myself with a reward at the end of the month. Not food related but a nice pedi or a new shirt. Sometimes going and buying 3 magazines or a new book.”
  • lizzy:”i do what you did and just list out the things i know i need to work on. having that list out in front of me is what helps”
  • allison: “I need to dive right back into it, otherwise ‘vacation mode’ lasts for weeks”
  • tay: “It’s super hard to get BOT, but I go day by day and it gets easier! I think about how much better I’ll feel once I feel clean and on track again.”
  • ildie: “Try setting mini goals. Things you want to accomplish at the end of every week instead of at the end of the 7 weeks. Might be easier to meet them and then feeling good about succeeding should motivate you to keep at it. I find that this works the best for me. I try and set a mini goal for every week.”
  • susan: “Part of the reason why I’m tracking calories again. Maybe it will be helpful to tighten things up just to get me through the holiday season. At least Christmas is full of turkey, which is the best lean protein there is ;) I guess just realizing that you’re doing it and changing it is the first step in the right direction…”
  • naomi: “I always get motivated when I go to the gym, this is why i never workout at home…even if I am not in the mood, once I get there I always have a great workout, seeing everyone else work so hard motivates me to work even HARDER than them!”
  • paige: “I just do it. I don’t have any real words of wisdom here. I just…do it. Coercion I guess? lol”
  • kristin: “when I need to get back on track- list, list, list! And I’ll write down what I’m eating (NOT kcals, just the food) for a couple weeks to make sure I am balanced. But no more- getting obsessive is no good!
I also like to switch up the exercise, which is always a fun way to kick it up.”
  • andrea: “I remind myself of how much better I feel when I work out right and eat clean. I also write my meals and workouts into my day planner. That way they are an appointment I can’t miss…”
  • holly: “i think just continuing on with healthy habits – everytime i try to compensate for overeating/not exercising but doing the opposite, it never ends up well. just resume healthy habits and all shall be fine.”
  • low: “make a list of attainable things I can do to help. Maybe it’s not everything I’d ideally like to be doing, but it’s the stuff I know I can accomplish and that will take me closer to my goal.”
  • kailey: “I assess the situation when I’m in it. Am I really hungry, or is this just a habit I’ve created? Is that what I really want? Do I feel like feeling like crap after I eat this whole box of crackers? Nah. That normally helps, but then again I try not to be stringent or too hard on myself.”
  • katie: “I have started trying on my bathing suit more than once a week to motivate myself. I sometimes disgust myself, but it sure motivates my butt into gear.” <—this was my favorite tip!
  • erika: “I am in that mode myself and have resorted to counting some cals. I know, bad, but I am at the point where I am viewing any amount of almond butter as ok bc it is good for you. I like to leave out the fact that 6 TBS is NOT good for you. So counting works for me to get on track…”
  • dorothy: “think about how great i feel after i eat super healthy all day and how stupid it would be to ruin it for a piece of cake or (hehe) vanilla bean ice cream”
  • taysa: “I usually keep around inspirational pictures, either of myself at a healthy weight or celebrities, etc and put them in front of me wherever I am. Seeing my end-goal helps me feel remotivated.”
  • angharad: “I tend to just make sure I do lots of exercise (running, yoga and weights for me!) and eat as much fruit/veggies as possible!”
  • tiffany: “I get motivated by reading about you getting motivated.” ;)
  • kristi: “When I know I have the support of someone else, I tend to be more motivated and make better choices.”

whew. that was long but SO worth it.. it helped me to go over all the tips again and i hope you all can pull something motivating from this list the next time you need a little nudge!

okay, now onto my day!

something new.

okay, no, i am not going in the order of the classic wedding rhyme.. so deal with it :P

meal 1: egg whites+feta+spinach+chicken+onions & dry wheat toast & black coffee @ 8:00 AM

so.. the original pancake house has been getting old.  for those of you who are new to reading my rambles.. i go to the original pancake house EVERY monday for a sales meeting.. and the meals get OLD.. FAST.  and then for some reason today i decided to try a totally new combo.. and it. was. incredible.  why did i never utilize the chicken option before? no idea. but you can bet the farm (if you have one) that i will be having chicken in my eggs for many a monday to come!

work was busy again today! i managed to break just a bit past when i would normally eat. i chugged lots of water in between meals to tide me over.

something old.

ohhh.. an oldie but a goodie!

meal 2: cottage cheese + garbanzos + hidden valley ranch seasoning @ 1:00 PM

it had been way too long since i had this combo.  i didn’t have any add ins today but it was perfectly delicious just as it was.

around 5 o’clock i had half of an unphotographed clif bar.. we will call it meal 3 just because. and then i was at work until 6:15. that is an 11 hour and 15 minute monday at work. bah. i did manage to finish my gallon of water before leaving the office though.

i did not go home and lay around like i wanted to. i went to the gym. go me.

something blue.

my workout outfit had a whole slew of blue. blue tshirt. blue hoodie. blue socks. blue on my shoes.

IMG_1593 IMG_1595

don’t mind the huge mess behind me.. i am still working on unpacking! it never ends!

my workout~

20 min HIIT on treadmill

  • incline=0
    • 2 min @ 6.0
  • incline=0.5
    • 1 min @ 6.5
    • 1 min @ 7.0
    • 1 min @ 7.5
    • 1 min @ 8.0
  • incline=1.0
    • 1 min @ 6.5
    • 1 min @ 7.0
    • 1 min @ 7.5
    • 1 min @ 8.0
  • incline=1.5
    • 1 min @ 6.5
    • 1 min @ 7.0
    • 1 min @ 7.5
    • 1 min @ 8.0
  • incline=2.0
    • 1 min @ 6.5
    • 1 min @ 7.0
    • 1 min @ 7.5
    • 1 min @ 8.0
  • incline=0
    • 1 min @ 9.0 (high point)
    • 1 min @ 2.0 (cool down)

not gonna lie.. i am surprised i could still run so fast after slacking for so long. i ended up going 2.25 miles in the 20 minutes.  then i rode the bike for 10 minutes just for fun.

something borrowed.

well.. i guess my dinner could count for something borrowed AND something blue.. but i wanted to tie my workout in somewhere so that is where the blue went ;)

meal 4: amazing salad @ 8:00 PM

still working on good lighting at the new house. ha. this salad had..

  • romaine
  • sprouts
  • grilled chicken
  • braeburn apple (half)
  • avocado
  • blue cheese

and something borrowed..

artichoke hearts from the roomie!

i topped it all with the balsamic dressing i snagged at trader joe’s while in cali.

i don’t know what it is about the pairing of blue cheese with apples.. IT. IS. SO. DANG. TASTY.

pre dressing drizzle..

post dressing drizzle..

i may or may not have licked the plate.

after dinner i worked on unpacking my room a bit.  i was folding a heap of clothes and i found another spider in my room. good thing my brave roommate drew came to the rescue and did away with the creepy crawly.  i think he may have been surprised at how much i freaked out over the spider.  i HATE spiders.  i am definitely arachnophobic. to the max. i am ridiculous when i see spiders. i squeal and make a huge fuss. and it is not an act. i hate spiders. even the ones who can’t hurt me. hfewjkhfcdjkflhew. i have to stop talking about them now. oh yeah, and this should go without saying, but after i found the spider i stopped unpacking. better luck tomorrow, eh?

well i feel like i haven’t had a second to breathe today. wake up, work nearly 12 hours, work out, come home, make dinner, eat, clean, blog. guess i will go to bed and do it all again tomorrow :)  and maybe have a moment to tackle my google reader which is up to almost 300. sorry lovies!

this girl has got to get some sleep.

1. what is something old, something new, something borrowed OR something blue in relation to your monday? i already told you all 4 of mine!

2. what phobias do you have? in addiction to arachnophobia, i am also VERY claustrophobic.

Great post – love the something idea! And those tips are awesome – I’ll be looking back to them over the next few weeks guaranteed!

My somethings:
something old: Butternut Squash Soup Leftovers
something new: I wore one of my scarves for the first time today – it looked super cute with my outfit
something borrowed: popcorn – the idea at least (from Julie GoLean)
something blue: My blue yoga mat that I used to whittle my middle

I don’t know that I have any total phobias, I never used to get freaked out by heights but in my old age (haha) they have started to make me a little nervous. Weird right?

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) November 16, 2009 at 11:21 pm

Artichokes..gosh I love them. Need to get on that.

thanks for the Breville Espresso maker tip off. I just started researching them tonite after i read your comment and there are about 3 that are in the running, $199, $299, and $399. I think yours is the $199 b/c it used to be in the mid 2’s and on amazon it gets spectacular reviews. So for $175 I could be in biz w/ my BB & B coupons!

I think tomorrow I am headed over there. I have never made espressos or steamed (almond) milk. So that’ll be new but I am excited. I mean if i can run a Vita i can run this, right?

Sorry to hear bout your gmail. That sucks.

Deb (Smoothie Girl Eats Too) November 16, 2009 at 11:21 pm

something blue = Monday is blue enough :(
something borrowed? I need to borrow someone’s good mood to get back to work mode ;)

Lauren November 17, 2009 at 4:55 am

This post is super cleaver, espeically after working 12 hours, doing everything you did in one day, and then coming home to think of these cute little themes for your nightly post. Wow, you are super amazing! :)

You dinner looks so good. I have been seeing so many of these salads lately and its making me crave one! ;)

Have a wonderful day. Hopefully it won’t be nearly as chaotic for you.

Paige @ Running Around Normal November 17, 2009 at 6:08 am

Wow, sorry about the long days lately. That’s such a bummer. They better realize how good an employee you are!! ;-)
Nice job on the workout! I’m not sure I’d be able to get to the gym after an almost 12 hour day at the office.

Let’s see, I’ll do something new: I tried a new recipe out of Eat, Drink and be Vegan – Cocoa-Coco chili! amazing!

Naomi (onefitfoodie) November 17, 2009 at 7:10 am

april November 17, 2009 at 7:21 am

something blue on sunday was ME after watching gossip girl!

ellie November 17, 2009 at 7:27 am

Love all the bloggie advice! Bunch of wise people we have amongst us :D

LOVE the look of your new breakfast, and thanks for the reminder about CC, chickpeas + ranch… I still have most of my stash of seasoning left and forgot ALL about it!

2. what phobias do you have? Prison. I think I’ve answered this before…hmm… Also something happening to my mom. I’ve had nightmares about it my entire life.

something blue: hangin’ out with me madre! my mom’s nickname is Blue :-)

Susan November 17, 2009 at 7:43 am

Loved going through everyone’s advice! I’m really bad about skipping through comments, so it was nice to see :) Awesome job on getting to the gym after such a long day at work! That’s crazy!! That salad looks wonderful though. I now have a hankering for apples and blue cheese.

1. I actually wore all blue to the gym yesterday too, even down to my Polar watch!

2. I have a seeeerriouss phobia of knives, or anything sharp. I can use knives myself, but I have a big problem being near someone who is holding one. My mom has this bad habit of talking animatedly while she’s chopping vegetables, and will start waving the knife in the air. It’s made me cry.

julie November 17, 2009 at 7:52 am

:) there ya go. glad you did that, it makes me feel better too!

hmmm something blue would be…i had blue on my sneaks when i went to the gym!, something new would be…hmmm i had savory oats last night! and something borrowed…hmmm i “borrowed” a pack of gum from Deej’s handbag..

i’m SOOOOOO afraid of fire. like can’t even handle it prob to the extent you are with the spideskies…

does this mean you’re scared of spencer pratt..

eatolive November 17, 2009 at 7:53 am

hmm something old – i actually heard from an old friend yesterday! yay for rekindling friendships!

something borrowed … i borrowed a pen?

something blue – the sky was gorgey blue yesterday!

something new … i went to my love, trader joes to pick up “veggies” for my vegetable pasta. i came out with hummus, pita, said veggies, tea, oats, dark chocolate … haha oopsie!

:) glad to hear you had a productive monday, i, too, hate spiders … bugs in general really irk me. i claim it’s my moms fault. when i was little, i was fascinated by bugs (i think most kids are?) and i picked up a sequada (sp?) and brought it to her. she screamed. i dropped it. never picked up a bug again.

Holly November 17, 2009 at 7:56 am

shoop da doop girl, you are BUSSSSAAAYYYY! i feel ya…my sched is crazy too and there just never seems to be enough hours in the day. hang in there – it will pass soon enough :)

something borrowed: a cookie from my coworker :)

brandi November 17, 2009 at 8:30 am

i love all the quotes – so fun to read!

1. something old was my gray velour pants I wore all day :)
something new – new recipe trial at dinner! something borrowed- leftovers?

2. what phobias do you have?
i’m totally freaked out about bad things happening…like drowning, a bridge collapsing while I’m on it, etc. I have bad dreams about stuff like that all the time.

Graze With Me November 17, 2009 at 8:40 am

I’ll tell you what my old, new, borrowed & blue was for my wedding –

Allison (Eat Clean Live Green) November 17, 2009 at 8:48 am

Seriously, you are awesome.

1. what is something old, something new, something borrowed OR something blue in relation to your monday? old = falafel for lunch. It’s a classic! :)

2. what phobias do you have? mouse-in-the-house-phobia

Therese November 17, 2009 at 8:48 am

You make wish I could go back and do my wedding all over again! Best day ever :)

Something Blue: Hello! It was Monday…I was blue!

Phobias: I am deathly afraid of frogs…for serious they freak me out!

Mandee Lei November 17, 2009 at 9:22 am

First off I am a new reader to your blog and want to say hi!! I love your blue hoodie by the way.
1. what is something old, something new, something borrowed OR something blue in relation to your monday?
Something old: Egg white Oatmeal with PB, I eat it pretty much every day and have for the last few months
Something new: Reading your blog!! :]

2. what phobias do you have? Oh I have arachnophobia to the max just as you described. My husband always thinks I have hurt myself or something and comes running in the room because of my shrieking to see this little baby spider lol. I definitely don’t discriminate when it comes to spiders, they all freak me out!! Besides that I have a huge phobia of dark water, especially the bottom of the ocean or a lake for example, not sure of the name for that.

Lara (Thinspired) November 17, 2009 at 10:13 am

You look way too cute to be working out! What?! I always look like such a slob.

Don’t think I’ve ever had dry toast. I should make that a habit!

I know we’ve already established this, but we share the same two phobias :) I don’t know why but I get a kick out of that ;) I also fear dirty bathrooms. Is there a name for that?!

Alicia November 17, 2009 at 10:32 am

New: Seared Halibut with Potatoes and Chard
Old: Tennis Shoes
Barrowed: Finance Strategy from a Blog
Blue: Old Blue Jacket

Phobia: Needles in my spine, it totally creeps me out!

Tiffany S. November 17, 2009 at 10:33 am

I was so motivated by yesterday’s post that I got on the Precor for 25 minutes on the WL setting and really ramped up the resistance. I needed a good feeling after the death of my hard drive (sad).

That salad looks AMAZING!!!! I’m laughing over the Serious Food..Silly Prices artichoke hearts. Reminiscent of our Artichoke Tapenade from Grocery Outlet.

I HATE snakes….but reading your post also realized I’m squeamish about eating chicken AND eggs together. Like one might remember the other.

Congrats on getting back to the gym!

kbwood November 17, 2009 at 11:08 am

LOVE your creative posts and that freakin SALAD!! ive never tried cottage cheese+ranch seasoning! looks awesome.

im so freaking scared of clowns..ahh.. now just thinking about them im freaking myself out

Lindsay November 17, 2009 at 11:22 am

I love your blue hoodie!

Your salad looks delish! I’m going to Trader Joes when I’m in Chicago next week and I can’t wait!

My Monday:
Something borrowed: a cookie recipe
Something blue: my hands as I scraped snow off of my car window. I’m serious about sending you all of our snow!
Old: Morgan. Ha! His birthday is on Thursday and I’ve been telling him he’s very, very old all week.
New: I opened a new pack of post-its at work yesterday. Love them!

Stacy (Eating To Live Love Laugh Tri) November 17, 2009 at 12:47 pm

Can I just say that I am super jealous that you can wear hoodies and Nikes to work!?! I mean REALLY jealous!

Sarah November 17, 2009 at 1:03 pm

Those getting back on track tips are awesome and I will most likely be pulling up this page in the next few weeks ;)

1. Something borrowed: your cottage cheese mixture!! I am trying to get into cottage cheese and this seems like something I would MOST de
Something blue: my coffee mug I use at work is blue (well sort of blue-ish green but whatevs)
Something old: Old xmas PJ’s from last year. Warm and snuggly with gingerbread men on them
Something new: A NEW BOOK!! My boyfriend went out and bought me a book :)

2. I have a fear of flyinnngg…but I am so getting over it (hurrah)!

Andrea@WellnessNotes November 17, 2009 at 2:19 pm

Something old: Oatmeal with pumpkin butter & walnuts – old but awesome!
Something new: New jeans (in a smaller size!)
Something borrowed: Lots of new recipes I found
Something blue: the sweater I wore yesterday was sort of blue, but you could also argue that it was really purple… ;)

Great post! I love all the awesome tips! Thanks for compiling them! :)

Angharad (Eating for England) November 17, 2009 at 3:55 pm

Something old: going to work
Something new: the direction I ran around the lake! haha.
Something borrowed: I got taken out to dinner by my father in law – for some reason I think that counts in this category!
Something blue: my feet in bed last night – I was freeeeezing!
And P.S. in case I haven’t said this before: I freaking HATE spiders. I am super terrified of them too and cannot deal at all. Ugh. I’m also kind of claustrophobic and scared of heights. Well rounded individual.

inmytummy November 17, 2009 at 4:28 pm

I like your elephant hoodie.

Hmm, cottage cheese + chickpeas = interesting. I might have to try it.

Hallie November 17, 2009 at 5:26 pm

Hey I have those shoes! Nike Triax? I love them! So much that I only use them for running and I have a second pair for the gym, so the Nikes don’t wear out too fast.

I can’t think back to yesterday as to what was blue…but I have a fear of falling. Things like moutain climbing or even hiking on rocky terrain are really hard for me. It’s strange…but I always say, “everyone has thier phobias!” and that’s mine.

Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) November 17, 2009 at 6:23 pm

Something old: The breakfast cookie I hadn’t made in FOREVER
Something new: The goji berries on it!
Something borrowed: I ‘borrowed’ half a brownie from my sis ;)
Something blue: Me, I was not happy yesterday!

Phobias: Emetophobia. Heights. And squeaky glasses.

lowandbhold November 17, 2009 at 7:11 pm

I am the exact same way about spiders! It takes me hours if I have to kill them myself because I just can’t work up the nerve! I feel your pain.

Love the workout outfit and the garbanzo combo. Congrats on the kickass workout :)

Erika November 17, 2009 at 7:51 pm

I don’t think this comment box is long enough for all my phobias! Insects (any and all) are high on the list so I will leave it at that.

And I totally thought you were engaged when I saw the title!

Katie November 17, 2009 at 8:45 pm

Balsamic on everything…so yummy.

I had good OLD spaghetti and meatballs that my MIL made tonight. An oldie but a goodie.

I hate snakes – is there a one-word phobia for that?

Katie November 17, 2009 at 8:46 pm

Oh and WHOOPS I totally forgot to say thanks for the link love!! I am so glad you liked my tip!! x0x0

Whole Body Love November 17, 2009 at 9:17 pm

Let’s see…I made my same old yogurt mess, I pondered the purchase of new running shoes, I let another girl in lab borrow my cat for her disection identification test (hers was lost or stolen from the freezer), I wore my blue plaid coat for the last time!

Emily (The Experimentarian) November 20, 2009 at 6:27 am

yay for trying something new at the pancake house. I’m sure you’re so sick of that place! Guess what? I ALMOST tried something new the other day, too. I printed out your HIIT to take to the gym with me, but I chickened out. Maybe today, though!
