sweet potato that is. i think i am turning into one. i ate sweet potatoes thursday, friday and saturday. and i am craving one today but i think i will refrain. oh and today i spotted a recipe for sweet potato cupcakes.. mmm.. those may have to be whipped up in my kitchen soon.
oh! first off do you want to know the winner of the oikos relaxation prize pack? i bet you do…
number one! which was julia! she said: “My favorite way to rewind and relax is being outdoors, like in the woods or at the beach. When I can’t be outdoors, I like sitting in my chair and reading.”
congrats honey pie! send me your info and i will pass it along to the folks at stonyfield farms so you can get your loot!
okay. so.. long weekend. i can’t really recap everythang because this would turn into a novel but i will show you eighteen pounds of sweet potato fries the highlights!
friday night i met up with the ladies! first off a few of us met up at the bohemian brewery for some food and drink action.
they serve bread alongside this incredible spread which is, from what i can decipher, just cream cheese mixed with green olives. it’s super tasty.
my friend and i split the chicken pesto pizza~
this, times 3. delish.
after our meal we headed to the bayou to meet up with seven other lovely ladies.
we hung out while waiting for a table, which turned into an hour and a half long wait.. so glad i ate beforehand or i would have been staaarving.
once we finally sat down everyone was ordering food and i didn’t since i already ate i blurted out “sweet potato fries” to the waitress. gah, trust me.. they are so worth it :)
don’t worry, i had help.
i realized that i am old when the main topic of conversation all night was wedding details (no, not of MY wedding) and talk of buying houses and other adult related whatnot. ugh. can i please just go back to being 22? i also realized that i am old when we finished up at a bit past midnight and i was ready to go home. hah. it was super fun to hang out with everyone though.. i have been so busy with the move and then went straight to san fran, i have missed my ladies!
saturday i woke up to GLORIOUS, GLORIOUS SNOW!!!!!
snowgasm.
i made myself a latte with espresso+almond milk~
in a very weather-appropriate mug:
and whipped up a greek yogurt mess using some ingredients from a couple of my favorite gals..
i started with a bowl of oikos and added chocolate almond macaroons from deb and bulgarian nut butter from tina:
throw a little shredded spoonfuls into the mix and breakfast was served!
i spotted something on the back of the shredded spoonfuls box that reconfirmed the fact that it is indeed my favorite cereal..
they said “stellar” :) it was meant to be.
after devouring this amazing yogurt bowl, i spent the next 5 hours at ikea, bed bath & beyond and target. whew. i got a lot of good stuff which i will probably show y’all sometime or another!
at least my new subaru can hang with the winter conditions. i was so dang happy the whole time i was driving. I LOVE THE SNOW!
saturday night we went to mccool’s for a birthday dinner celebration.
i was going to get some black bean soup but the waiter basically told me that it was disgusting so i went with the turkey burger + sweet potato fries..
the sweet potato fries were served with some sort of curry mustard and it was fabulous. and i ate fries two days in a row. and i didn’t even care. but i probably should have.. i have been so lenient with my eating lately. bah.
today marshall & i made egg sandwiches for breakfast. i served mine up on a winter wonderland plate.. still so excited about the snow :D
2 slices of nature’s path all natural 100% whole wheat bread, 1 slice tillamook cheddar, 1 egg+1 egg white (cage free eggs)~i felt better about this meal than i do about all the others over the weekend.
this afternoon i went to a baby shower for my beautiful friend katie. she is having a girl in february! so exciting.
i made fruit pizza..
always a hit.
and my friend sabrina made strawberry cupcakes which were super cute!
i had a little bit of fruit pizza but not a cupcake. i also had some of the other food that was at the shower~
mayjuh lackage of protein. but not too horrible i suppose.
SO..honestly.. i have got to get off the crappy eating wagon. there. i said it.
the way i feel tonight after this weekend reconfirms the fact that i need to get my butt back in gear. i was really lax with my eating at the foodbuzz festival and the whole time i was in cali, once i got back to utah i was SO busy at work that i didn’t make the best choices for lunch.. nothing horrible, just not enough protein and probably way too many carbs. when i am stressed out and exhausted i eat lots of carbs. and then i feel like garbage. grumble.
i have also been a slack ass at working out. i have only worked out 3 times in the past week.. all cardio, no weights. well, i did do 20 squats while holding marshall today. hah. but i can feel my body telling me to stop being so lazy and get back into the weight room. i have not been gaining weight or getting fat or anything.. but i KNOW i am losing muscle, i can feel it, i don’t like it.
i also have not been eating enough veggies or protein and have not been drinking enough water. it is crazy that i have been so lenient with myself because i know what i should be doing.. and i am just not doing it. duhhh janetha.
i counted.. 81 days until i leave for jamaica. that is a little over 11 weeks. plenty of time to get my body bikini ready :) it will be hard since the holidays are just around the corner.. but i am bound and determined to be happy in my own skin come february 5th (the date we leave for jamaica).
SO.. for the next 81 days i have a few goals:
- at least 1 gallon of water a day
- 3 cardio workouts a week
- 3 weight training workouts a week
- abs 3 to 4 times a week
- focus on lots of veggies
- body for life style meals (balanced protein/carb ratio plus healthy fat)
- cut waaaay back on sugar.. only eat a treat if i REALLY want it, not just because it is there (this is big during the holidays.. so many treats are everywhere!)
- try to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night
- no fried foods. no excuses.
i think that this is a good list to start with. it is important for me to have specific goals and not just tell myself to “do better”.. if i lay it out then i am better at sticking to it. lists are this girl’s best friend!
okkkkay so yeah, sorry to ramble on there for a bit. just had to reassess my situation and talking it out helps me stay accountable!
hope you all had a great weekend, i am going to try to catch up on some blogs but i think cuddle time with the pups+marshall just might make me end up closing the laptop ;)
Qs~
1. how do you get motivated/get back on track after a lapse in regular exercise/clean eating (aka “vacation mode”)? let’s hear it people! i need a kick in the butt!

Oh girl, don’t i know the feeling with trying/needing to get back on track. Life’s just been one big partay since vacay for me and with the exception of one great week, I”ve not been good at all. I totally need to get back on the bandwagon and reshift gears for the holidays, In fact, I was gonna write a grumble grumble post of my own this week. We’ll see.
Oh, and I could eat sweet potato fries for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, dessert, snack, then another snack. A-Maz-ing.
hang in there. I think it’s about re-committing and just mother f-ing DOING it! I’ll be trying right there with you!!!!!
I motivate myself by thinking of how exciting it will be to see how proper eating and training will postitively affect my body. I don’t like to lose muscle either. I lost a lot of muscle not working out for the past few months. Now that I ‘m back in the gym, I am optimistic about my muscle-building , endurance- boosting, speed-increasing abilities!
I need a kick in the rear too–let’s motivate each other! Please!?
I am planning a sweet potato recipe for Thanksgiving–you’ll just have to wait :)
I want a cupcake stand!!!
Oh boy! After reading this I have a HUGE SP fry craving!!
I motivate myself with a reward at the end of the month. Not food related but a nice pedi or a new shirt. Sometimes going and buying 3 magazines or a new book. The best thing I ate was a scramble tofu and egg dish for breakfast this morning!
hey girl hey!
Sweet potato fries really need tired by this girl! hehe. Your weekend sounds super fun!!!!
1-getting my butt into gear usually takes a little bit of a challenge but after i get myself back into the grind i do what you did and just list out the things i know i need to work on. having that list out in front of me is what helps
2- 98% fat free frozen yogurt (cake batter) flavor with oreo cookies on top! simply devine!!!!!
http://saladdiva.wordpress.com
I totally know the feeling. I need, need, need to get back on track myself! The best thing I ate this weekend was a salad with blue cheese. I love blue cheese!!!!
But now I totally want sweet potato fries!
I love sweet potato fries, they are so worth it! And those are totally doable goals :)
1. how do you get motivated/get back on track after a lapse in regular exercise/clean eating (aka “vacation mode”)? I need to dive right back into it, otherwise ‘vacation mode’ lasts for weeks…
2. what is the best thing you ate this weekend? a cheese pannekoeken (kind of like a crepe) with stroop (kind of like maple syrup) from this wonderful dutch place!
Stellaaaaarrrr!!! Love it :-D
1. It’s super hard to get BOT, but I go day by day and it gets easier! I think about how much better I’ll feel once I feel clean and on track again.
2. Hmm…my French toast this morning was pretty killer!
that looks like SUCHHHH a great weekend!!!! love those sweet tator fries + fruit PIZZA.. gah!
I love your list. I’m a list writing FOOL I tell you… A FOOOOOL!
Try setting mini goals. Things you want to accomplish at the end of every week instead of at the end of the 7 weeks. Might be easier to meet them and then feeling good about succeeding should motivate you to keep at it. I find that this works the best for me. I try and set a mini goal for every week. Such as…..
Drink more water this week
Eat more veggies this week
No pop this week
No pasta or rice this week, try new recipes
Try new moves at the gym
More cardio
etc… etc…
Good luck girl! Jamaica sound AWESOME! I need a vacation!!!!!
hey girl,
love your blog, but the ocd in me has to point this out. 81 days is a little under 12 weeks, not 7. you have plenty of time :)
SNOW?! It was friggin 76 degrees here today! Kinda jealous of your winter wonderland, not gonna lie.
Love the sound of sweet potato fries with curry mustard!
wow nobody ever wins with the #1!
the best thing i ate this weekend…hmm…probably the salad i had at the whole foods flagship store in austin! too bad i wasn’t too hungry for it…
This:
i made myself a latte with espresso+almond milk~
Ummm that machine. Can I get one? I have been debating for years about buying one and I have never done it. It’s not the money. It’s the will I really use this? And I think I really would. I use the hell outta all my other expensive appliances. What brand, do you love it? If you could re-buy it, would you? Any others? Basically shoot me a sentence or two about it and I am going to buy something. Like tomorrow. BB & B 20% off coupons work wonders for purchases like these!
Congrats for writing down your goals to get back on track and knowing what you need to do. That’s more than half the battle. Yay!
Snowgasm…I love it. You are fabulous.
Good luck with the next 81 days. I didn’t know you are going to Jamaica! Awesome!
1. I am still trying to figure that out. No answer. Sorry. Fail.
2. Roast chicken! Hubs roasted it perfectly and it was nice and juicy :)
I’m glad that I’m not the only one who tends to eat too much crap these days.. I really need a kick in the butt as well.
1) Seriously, no idea! I agree with Tay though
2) A smoothie and sushi. The rest was crap ;)
It wasn’t this weekend, but last week I ate a DELICIOUS spread of vegan sushi! But this weekend I ate a piece of chocolate peanut butter ganache pie.. mmm..
And with that said, I have been eating so much sugar lately, too..
Oh my, I’m with you, I’m on a complete sweet potato and squash obesession these days. I could eat them every single day at nearly every meal. Sooo good! SP fries are the ONLY fries I feel are worth ordering out. Worth every single bite!
What, it snowed? That’s so cool! Have a glorious time with that! :)
Hmm, best thing I ate was the grilled salmon for din last night. It was scrumptious! ;)
Have a lovely day loves!
Okay first, chicken pesto pizza is aaawesome. I can’t believe “stellar” is on that cereal box. I love that the random number generator picked #1!
As for the healthy eating thing, I am soooo feeling you. I think I got so focused on not letting anything be “off limits” and re-introducing foods back into my life, that I totally forgot about eating clean, whole foods. I’ve especially been OD-ing on the sugar lately too, and it makes me feel like junk. Part of the reason why I’m tracking calories again. Maybe it will be helpful to tighten things up just to get me through the holiday season. At least Christmas is full of turkey, which is the best lean protein there is ;)
1. I have no idea. This is one of my worst downfalls! I got to my highest weight ever from splurging after returning from a trip to Jamaica. I guess just realizing that you’re doing it and changing it is the first step in the right direction…
2. Does the french toast I made this morning count? Cause it was delicious!
I always get motivated when I go to the gym, this is why i never workout at home…even if I am not in the mood, once I get there I always have a great workout, seeing everyone else work so hard motivates me to work even HARDER than them!
your fruit pizza looks insane what did you use as the crust??
you are going to jamiaca?!?! JEALOUS! that leaves you with PLENTY of time to fufill each and everyone of your goals
best thing I ate this weekend would have to be my PB/oatmeal cookie froyoooo
PS- if you havent; already update your reader!!
http://feeds.feedburner.com/onefitfoodie
so you can keep getting mah info :)
xo
Awww – what a fun girls night! Those fries sure do seem worth it :)
I didn’t know it snowed! Wow that’s a lot, too.
1. I just do it. I don’t have any real words of wisdom here. I just…do it. Coercion I guess? lol
2.Best thing I ate all weekend were the scrambeled eggs my husband made, a. because they were awesome, and b., they were made with loooove :)
Don’t worry too much- we all get stuck in a rut. You’ll get there! Great list!
I do the same thing you do when I need to get back on track- list, list, list! And I’ll write down what I’m eating (NOT kcals, just the food) for a couple weeks to make sure I am balanced. But no more- getting obsessive is no good!
I also like to switch up the exercise, which is always a fun way to kick it up.
As for this weekend… I had some white chicken chili from the health food store that was pretty freakin delish.
Hope this week is less busy for you!!
xo
K
First off, I love that photo of you driving in the snow. Too cute!
I think that a lot of people find this time of year pretty challenging, especially with moving, etc. I think it’s awesome that you are setting some manageable goals and that you are aware that 1) your body isn’t loving the current habits, and 2) you are on top of it before it’s gone on too long. It’s so much easier to fall out of a routine than into one… I’ve been on rocky territory since getting back from NY. My hip injury is NOT healing and am pretty much housebound at this point so it has a knock on effect. Sorry to ramble on your blog.
Best thing I ate this weekend was a grilled wrap filled with spinach, tofu and Annie’s Woodstock dressing!
I had an early Thanksgiving this weekend so I know what you mean about getting back on track. I ate way too much! My main goals are to eat less processed foods, more veggies and making good snack choices.
I love the fruit pizza, I will definitely make it soon.
I’m so jealous of the snow!!!
I LOVE sweet potato fries; I could seriously eat them every single day…
1. I remind myself of how much better I feel when I work out right and eat clean. I also write my meals and workouts into my day planner. That way they are an appointment I can’t miss…
2. Korean soup at my mother-in-law’s house.
SNOW!! Apparently we got a dusting here.. while I was gone in Arizona!! haha grrr!
I ate way too many carbs this weekend. So now I’ve just got to get back on schedule!
HA! When I was reading the words from the shredded spoonfuls box I was like “wow I really love that they used the word “stellar”" and then I scroll down and that was your fav part. whaaaatup!
you know you kick the big bootay at life so getting back on track for you will be a piece of cake!
i feel like such an old lady too. our friends always talk about weddings and I felt like a dead beat horse when I got home at 1:30 on saturday night!
Jealous of your SNOW!
shoop da doop girl – YOU CAN DO IT! i think it seems to be a real thang in blogland that its getting to the end of the year, peeps get lax/busy/stressed but ain’t no thang girl, you are going to look fab in jamaica!
all those sweet potato fries would be impossible for me to resist too. and curry mustard? that is perfection.
i think just continuing on with healthy habits – everytime i try to compensate for overeating/not exercising but doing the opposite, it never ends up well. just resume healthy habits and all shall be fine.
best thing i ate? my oatmeal from yesterday. ahhhhh DELISH!
this is the single hardest time for me to eat well & limit the sweets! it’s the time of year for baking, and tons of it, christmas/new years parties, thanksgiving + leftovers, cold weather that makes me wanna wrap in a warm blanket and lay around rather than brave the ice cold wind to get a work out in, and the sun sets way too damn early on top of it all!
dont get me wrong tho, i adore this time of year more than any other time … it just also happens to be the time when my will power is put to the test!
i am determined, though, to work out 4 times per week & limit the unnecessary sweets this year! we can do it Janetha B! :)
You can do it!! :)
you’re so cute with your winter happiness :) and snow?!? I hope we get some here this winter.
Hmmm.best thing I ate all weekend?
my meatloaf recipe was pretty rockin’, and I had some brownies that I mixed nutella in with the batter. yum.
HOLY SNOW!! As much as I love this season, the snow can wait until December-ish. For what it’s worth, I’m 22 and my friends and I talk about weddings, buying houses, KIDS!, etc.
Fruit pizza is so good! My friends and I used to have fruit pizza making parties :)
Good luck getting back on track! Best thing I ate? Tofu egg salad!
I WANT SNOW! No fair!
Can I send you all of our snow this winter? It just started snowing here and it’s awful! I would much rather summer or fall weather!
I love your winter dishes though. They are super cute!
I love that you value muscle and like to lift. Too many girls are scared of muscle and tend to shy away.
I too need to step it up gym wise—except I need to do more cardio. Ive been lifting no problem, haha
I feel like we are the same person lately! I wish I could just move up there so we could be roommates/workout buddies! Your kick ass strength training workouts are what I need in my life. I just can’t make myself do it! Ugh.
I know exactly how it feels to know what you should be doing, yet at the same time just not be doing it. I hate when life gets in the way of my health! But I have faith in you girl, you’re one of the most motivated people I “know”.
1. I do what you just did, which is to make a list of attainable things I can do to help. Maybe it’s not everything I’d ideally like to be doing, but it’s the stuff I know I can accomplish and that will take me closer to my goal.
2. Hmmm, my appetite was wonky so I didn’t eat too much… but either the garlic bread or the eggplant fries I had before the game Saturday with my family. Yum!
JANETHA!!!! Oh how I’ve missed you! I don’t know what it is, but I’ve missed these regular meals-and-move-style posts. I feel like I’m really catching up with you. I’m not sure if that made ANY sense.
Anyway, I am rocking the holiday plates+mugs hard core right now. I love it so much.
I really appreciate your honesty with this! Well, I do have to say that I only work out 3 days a week, most of which is cardio. Oops.
To get back on track (AKA stop eating everything in sight after 11pm to keep me awake), I asses the situation when I’m in it. Am I really hungry, or is this just a habit I’ve created? Is that what I really want? Do I feel like feeling like crap after I eat this whole box of crackers? Nah. That normally helps, but then again I try not to be stringent or too hard on myself.
The best things I ate this weekend: MamaJ’s butternut squash, corn and bean stew (I could eat it every day), pumpkin cupcakes and…get ready to gasp… Greek yogurt. I really, really wanted it, so I had a cup and felt soooo satisfied. Yeah, definitely rethinking my mantra on food, which has been “eat what you want, when you want.”
I hope you have a spectacular day! I love youuuuu and missed you!
PS Do you have any tips for those who need to kick up their water intake? I need to drink more water, but I always reach for coffee/tea/vitaminwater/ Coke Zero/ Blue Moon first. The only time I really drink water is when I’m working out. Thought I’d ask the water expert!!
Oh girl I’m right there with you. I totally crave carbs when I’m tired or stressed out. My body just freaks out though and does not reposnd well too a carby overload!
You’ve made some awesome goals! I know you are gonna rock it out. 11 weeks is hella time to be bikini ready!
Hooray!! I’m glad you got your first snow!! I have some extra here that I will send you, too. :-)
Before I got married (sorry, more wedding talk – totally un-intentional) I tried on my wedding dress a zillion times a week to make sure I wasn’t “slipping” – so before vacation, I have started trying on my bathing suit more than once a week to motivate myself. I sometimes disgust myself, but it sure motivates my butt into gear.
I made my own pumpkin butter and it was the first time I had ever had this deliciousness! I’m hooked.
I love that you have specific goals and not just do better. I am in that mode myself and have resorted to counting some cals. I know, bad, but I am at the point where I am viewing any amount of almond butter as ok bc it is good for you. I like to leave out the fact that 6 TBS is NOT good for you. So counting works for me to get on track…
As for good food this weekend. My daughter and I went to dinner and treated ourselves to sliders and onion rings (need I say more about my eating lately?) and even she said, back to yoga tomorrow!
I can’t believe the snow on your car! I’ve been in snow but never while snowing.I guess I’m just a wimpy Cali girl
youre so lucky to have snow!!! i can’t wait for it to snow here :)
i had this last night: http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/2444/ricotta+spinach+frittata
but with ff ricotta and 3 eggs + 4 whites
twas DELISH! muy fluffy and high protein to boot. def suggest this
normally if im craving something unhealthy i
1) think about how great i feel after i eat super healthy all day and how stupid it would be to ruin it for a piece of cake or (hehe) vanilla bean ice cream
2) think about how it migh seem like a little slip, but many slips here and there add up and prevent you from reaching your goal!!
hope this was helpful:)
Oh man…getting back on track can be tough. I usually keep around inspirational pictures, either of myself at a healthy weight or celebrities, etc and put them in front of me wherever I am. Seeing my end-goal helps me feel remotivated.
Oh man, I know this feeling! October was awful for me – Texas through me off completely and then I just found it super hard to focus on being on track. I tend to just make sure I do lots of exercise (running, yoga and weights for me!) and eat as much fruit/veggies as possible!
It’s genuinely HARD at this time of year though! There are so many delicious treats everywhere and it’s so hard to say no when everyone else is digging in. I find having a goal helps best though – a vacation is the best kind! When I know I only have X weeks to shape up, it really kicks me into doing it!
1. I get motivated by reading about you getting motivated. I ate really well while visiting my mom but came home and ate two pieces of homemade lasagna at 10 pm (because I wanted to try both kinds that Chris had made – I don’t even really like lasagna). So I’m back on the exercise train too!
2. I ate sooo many good things in Palm Desert while visiting my mom but the BEST might have been the peanut butter/choc desert from Native Foods. Or the Chocolate Flan cake from Cardenas. It’s a toss up (but in my defense, we ate both desserts over a 3 day period, a little at a time, and worked out 2.5 times.).
Just wait until all your friends start talking about having kids. Talk about weird!
I need to read other people’s advice about getting motivated because I don’t have any! I need to get back on the wagon myself.
I don’t think I had anything phenomenal to eat over the weekend. How sad.
Sounds like a lot of us have some getting back on track to do! When I know I have the support of someone else, I tend to be more motivated and make better choices. So I am in right with ya girl! Lets kick some bootay!
ok i was doing sooooo good with my eating, this week I am back in KC for work and staying at my parents…SUGAR SHACK!!! Dude I feel like I need a detox from the sugar. So I am trying to just really focus on making choices that will fuel my body
Those are some great goals, Jantha!
its Okay to “fall off” the wagon. you know! No one is perfect :)
it looks like you had an awesome weekend! I live ordering sweet p fries:D
I think the word YUM pretty much sums up my feelings about this post. Such great looking eats.
And I won the Oikos giveaway! Yay! Had to come back to mention that!
I loooove the bohemian brewery! They have sauerkraut! It sounds like you will have no problem getting back on track after setting your goals. P.S. BOO! to the snow! But I thought of you during the blizzard and I’m glad it made you happy :) xoxo
