i heart foodbuzz. round four.

in meals

hello and welcome to the fourth and final round of my foodbuzz blogger festival recaps!  dang, this has taken longer than i expected. thanks for reading along~even though it makes you guys jealous ;)

i misssss regular food blogging, to tell you the truth! as fun as it is to recap, i haven’t been taking photos of my food this week because i knew i wouldn’t be blogging about it and yep, i miss it. i also miss telling you about my workouts.  for the record, i went to a 5:45 AM spin class this morning! that is unheard of for me! it was awesome. and now i have my whole night to relax.  if you miss my daily rambles and whatnot, follow me on twitter because i have been rambling a lot on there!

anyway, i left off at the end of saturday~i stayed up WAY later than i should have and posted round one of my recaps.  after a short 5 hours of sleep, i woke up feeling sleepy but excited to meet up with deb again!!

allison & i walked to deb’s hotel and we set out on foot for a nice long walk along the embarcadero.  we walked from pier two or three all the way to pier thirty i believe.  it was so fun chatting with these two ladies about blogs, food and life in general.  it kills me that we all live so far apart!

we managed to get someone to snap a photo for us~

 11-8-09 001

after our walk we said our goodbyes to deb and headed back up to the room to pack our bags and SOMEHOW fit all the swag into every nook and cranny of our suitcases!  i ate this pear while packing.. it was an item in one of the swag bags.

11-8-09 004

oh houndstooth carpet, i love you.

we then checked out of the hotel and took a cab to restaurant lulu.. not to worry, ashley gave the cab driver her jar of olives that came in her swag bag.  he was more than stoked.

the brunch was GLORIOUS.. we walked in and right up front was a bloody mary bar sponsored by skyy vodka.. we all skipped out on this, but still took photos of course. that is what we do.

11-8-09 012

the brunch was sponsored by nature’s pride bread.  when i looked at the buffet spread i was ecstatic to see SALADS.. i was craving veggies like nobody’s business!  i loaded up on the deliciousness of it all.

11-8-09 018 11-8-09 017

11-8-09 02011-8-09 021

i actually took a photo of the wrong label of the pear salad. my version was the nonvegan one with big hunks of fabulous blue cheese :) pears and blue cheese pair SO well together!

i was REAL happy when i saw the frittata was made with mushrooms and my new favorite cheese: kerrygold aged cheddar with irish whiskey! drooool

11-8-09 023 11-8-09 024

i didn’t get a photo, but they had some delicious breakfast sandwiches made with smoked ham, kerrygold swiss (my dad’s favorite!) & truffle mustard all on nature’s pride 100% whole wheat.

they also had a huge pan of french toast made with nature’s pride’s latest bread variety~nutty oat!

11-8-09 025

my loooaded plate:

11-8-09 028

yum. washed it all down with black coffee that allison and i agreed was a tad on the gaggy side.

11-8-09 030

we said our goodbyes to our fellow bloggie friends and peaced outta there.

and then there was a parade.

11-7-09 263

hmmmm random. it is not every day you run into a parade in san fran! but we were lucky as can be.. i guess.

i had to go to the puma store to snag marshall a shirt and so ashley & jasmine went with me and allison & quinn started walking toward golden gate park.  we told them we would catch up with them after the puma store.

11-7-09 265

after i snagged a long sleeve T for marsh, we checked out a few other stores and then started walking to catch up with the other girls.  we ended up running into a dope farmer’s market!

11-7-09 280

11-8-09 034    11-7-09 269  11-8-09 037

this guy was our friend! he kept giving us samples of nuts and dried fruit. so delish.

11-7-09 282

11-7-09 271 11-7-09 272

have you ever seen such tiny jicama?!?11-7-09 276 11-7-09 277 11-7-09 279

purple peas? who knew. not me.

 11-8-09 040

GIANT squash! try to get your mouth around that one jasmine!11-8-09 043 11-8-09 045

i had no idea brussel sprouts grew like this. did you?11-8-09 046 11-8-09 049 11-8-09 035 11-8-09 036

lots of photos :) loved the market. i didn’t buy anything since i already was packed to the brim as far as my luggage situation went!

after the market we said goodbye to jasmine because she had to catch her flight :(

ashley and i kept on trekking trying to catch up with the other girls. i am fairly certain we walked for over two hours. i was in flip flopsss. no bueno. we finally made it to alamo square.. full house opening scene anyone?

11-8-09 054 11-7-09 283

we got a call from the others telling us that their destination (the cliff house) was way further than expected and they were going to catch the bus. we totally sat down right where we were (which was in a neighborhood somewhere) and called a cab.  while waiting for the cab we were sitting on some steps. then.. a bus came! so we hopped up and hopped on! lalala, riding the bus.

oh. shit.

my puma bag was not in my hands.  UGHHHH! i left it back on the step we were sitting on.. we hopped up to get on the bus so suddenly that i must have left it behind! grumble. we hopped OFF the bus, walked back about 4 blocks. it was gone.. of course. double grumble!

we eventually caught a cab.. told him where we were going. he laughed hysterically when we told him that we were going to walk there. apparently it was WAAAAYYYY beyond walking distance. hah. he let us off at the cliff house and the scenery was well worth the journey.

11-8-09 057 11-8-09 055

we FINALLLLY met up with quinn & allison!

we all look pretty happy but i think it is safe to say we were all very exhausted.  and hungry.. sort of. we all sat down at a restaurant but by the time we got menus marisa and the fam had arrived to pick me up and whisk me away to the airport :(

so let me point out the irony here:

we split up from the others to go to the puma store. we spent the whole rest of the day trying to catch up with them. i LEFT MY FREAKING PUMA PURCHASE on the step in some random spot. by the time we did catch up to them i had to leave.. and remember, the only reason we split up was so i could get marshall a puma shirt. which i don’t have. someone in san fran does though.

isn’t it ironic? doncha think?

i lovingly wrapped all my knick knacks swag in bubble wrap before heading to the airport.  thanks for your help ree!

11-7-09 289

and then i was off! back to the SLC. after a long, long day.

welp, there you have it! my recap of san fran in all it’s entirety! hope you enjoyed all four installments!!

i really, really, REALLY enjoyed attending the festival.  some people thought i was pretty crazy to be flying to california and rooming with a bunch of people i had never met.. sharing beds with “strangers”.. but you know what? i never once was worried about it. i knew i wanted to go from the minute i heard about it and i am so glad i went.  i can’t even explain to you how amazing it was to meet so many of my online blogging friends in person and to get to know each other better.  i am totally serious about buying an island and all of us moving there ;)

if you want to see more of the festival, check out these lovely blogs: danica, allison, quinn, jasmine, ashley, brandi, brittany, coco, sophia, meghann, emily, maggie, sabrina, kath, tina, two boos, andrea, amie, jenna & taysa.

loved it.

the end.

1. anything ironic happen to you lately? or not so lately? i love ironic stories.. tell me one that has happened to you.

2. what discoveries have you made about fruits/veggies that surprised you? i had three at the farmer’s market sunday! 1: purple peas 2: tiny jicama 3: how brussel sprouts grow (on a stalk). who knew! not this girl.

i will be back tomorrow with flashback friday!

I dream about that farmer’s market. I wish I had one that good, that close to me!

burpexcuzme November 12, 2009 at 9:54 pm

I am SO pissed I missed brunch! It looked fantastic, and it would have been SO nice to see your beautiful, adorable face one more time. And next time you boss gives you any form of sexual harrassment, tell him you have a bloggie friend (me) who has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do (just leave out the part that I’m a puny skinny girl)!

Hahaha! LOVE that pic of Jasmine chomping on the giant squash…She is so adorable!

Whole Body Love November 12, 2009 at 10:11 pm

I am ..err …was a huge Full House fan. The opening scene photo rocks my socks right off!! I have never seen a Bloody Mary bar! What a fun brunch idea.

Allie (Live Laugh Eat) November 12, 2009 at 10:18 pm

That market looks PHENOMENAL! I could spend days in there! The row of houses reminds me of Full House :)

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) November 12, 2009 at 10:25 pm

the embarcadero looks freezing (it always is and in general SF is colder by 20 degrees than you’d ever exepct which is why i couldnt live there)
nice bloody mary’s

the squash pic is a little bit of food porn now isn’t it :)

The Puma store–of course. Major bum about unintentionally gifting it to someone else though. :( I LOVE your Farmer’s market finds–purple peas–how rad! Miss you girl! xoxo

Paige @ Running Around Normal November 13, 2009 at 5:58 am

Awesome recap!! You girls had a blast, eh??
that farmer’s market is insane!
And the shore is gorgeous. I’m sure the pictures do it no justice, but the pictures are incredible, for sure.Sorry about your puma purchase – major suckage:(

I have never made a fresh squash until this year, and now I don’t know how I’ve lived this long without doing so!

Chai November 13, 2009 at 6:10 am

those brussels sprouts BLOW MY MIND.

brandi November 13, 2009 at 6:34 am

I love your recaps :) what a fun way to start the day, with those ladies.

and I lose stuff all the time!!! I’m surprised I didn’t leave something in San Fran that I actually needed…like my cell phone or camera or something!

ellie November 13, 2009 at 6:50 am

I miss your regular posts, but am LOVING the recaps! So.much.fun. Next year- see you there?!!!!! The purple peas look awesome! The sell brussel sprouts on stalks like that in the UK :)

ahhh I just bought a b sprout tree from TJs last night! It’s offish gonna be my christmas tree :)

ksgoodeats November 13, 2009 at 8:09 am

So much fun! Sorry about the puma accident – I hate when stuff like that happens. It usually makes me more upset than it should too!

All of those mushrooms! I loves :)

Andrea@WellnessNotes November 13, 2009 at 9:57 am

Looks like so much fun! I love all your pics! :)

My mom used to grow Brussels sprouts in her garden, and I have always loved that they grow on stalks. It’s so cool that you can now buy a whole stalk at the Farmers’ Market…

Lara (Thinspired) November 13, 2009 at 10:14 am

Oh man, talk about Puma drama! What a nightmare. At least you had some awesome bloggie meet-ups and tons of good food. What an experience!
I really enjoyed your recaps, J!

Angharad (Eating for England) November 13, 2009 at 10:31 am

I actually knew about brussel sprouts! But I only discovered it last weekend! Dan’s aunt is growing some. I was shocked. Nature is cool.
Amazing re-cap. So sad about your ironic day. Boo. But lovely brunching! I do like that cheddar as well. Tis a good un.
Yay for you being back! xx

Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) November 13, 2009 at 10:51 am

What an incredibly fabulous trip!!

Lindsay @ bananaandchocolate November 13, 2009 at 10:57 am

Sorry about the shirt. That stinks! At least it made for a good story! :)

I’m so sad I missed the festival. It sounds like everyone had such a great time!

Naomi (onefitfoodie) November 13, 2009 at 11:28 am

i wish farmers markets went on all year round! but sadly in the winter in boston, that would be a bit hard !

Beautiful pictures!! I love the sugar cane :)

I discovered squash but it was in the shape of a baseball! also I have seen purple peppers! they were crazy.

This morning I had lady gaga bad romance stuck in my head, put on the radio and it was on! now THATS ironic :)

Susan November 13, 2009 at 11:33 am

First, I saw you facebook about the spin class and all I can say is GOOD JOB GIRL!!! So proud of you getting up and spinning it out at that ungodly hour. Only thing I’ll get out of bed at 5am for ;) (PS it helps if you slam back iced coffee first :P )

I’m gonna start saving my money now so I can attend all these fun festivals next year. It would be so awesome to meet everyone! Sucks how it ended in that irony though. I hope Marshall still appreciates the lack of Puma shirt :)

1. How about ten thousand spoons when all ya need is a knife?

2. I didn’t know that about brussel sprouts either! Even though it’s been a few years since I discovered it, I’m still amazed that pickles are just tiny cucumbers. I always thought they were different vegetables.

Sarah November 13, 2009 at 12:10 pm

5:45 AM spin class! Way to be janetha!! So inspiring.

I’m so sorry about your Puma bag!! That is SO annoying. I’ve done something like that, but I left it on a train and I had no way of getting it back (and it was in a foreign country…no way).

I saw this crazy funky weird fruit at whole foods last week, and of course I can’t remember what its called (maybe this is my ironic story? although i’m pretty sure that’s not irony…just a lack of memory) but it looked like a starfish combined with an octopus. and it was yellow. so interesting.

whitegirllife November 13, 2009 at 12:36 pm

Hey Janetha! I wanted to let you know I started my own food and fitness blog. After meting you on BFL Tracker (BAD A$$ES forever) I decided that this is just what I wanted for a little “hobby”. I am just getting started and could use any tips you would pass along.

Tricia November 13, 2009 at 3:53 pm

Love the food pics!

danica November 13, 2009 at 9:45 pm

Ok – I have serious farmer’s market envy – I soooo would’ve rather gone with you all on all that walking/touring than to a football game :) LOL….Fantastic grande finale recap! It was totally the company that made the weekend the bestest :D

homegirlcaneat November 25, 2009 at 9:07 pm
