peace out SLC.

in meals

11:07 PM and i decided i better post.. maybe not my brightest idea but we will see how this one pans out.

i drooled over all your favorite sandwich concoctions!  some of the most mouth water worthy ones included (but were definitely not limited to!):

caroline’s: My fave sandwich combo is probably a whole wheat bread, a thick cut of tofu, spicy hummus, and a big blob of guac & a slice of tomato. OR, I like a good double decker hummus sandwich with roasted red pepper and original hummus. My kind of Big Mac.

lauren’s: My favorite sammie is Almond Butter, Pumpkin Butter, Pear, Goat Cheese and Spinach on Cinnamon Raisin. okay.. minus the raisins ;)

angharad’s: My favourite ever is probably: wholewheat bread from england (i know, that sounds weird, but bread is majorly sweet here compared to at home. strange but i say true), leftover turkey (from christmas), stuffing, cranberry sauce orrrrrrrrrrr (I’m having two, you can’t stop me)
– crusty white baguette, butter, thick slices of aged matuuure (you love it) cheddar and crunchy lettuce and tomatoes. LOVE.

lindsay’s: My favorite sandwich is sourdough bread with cheddar cheese and smoke turkey. Grilled and then topped with spinach. Yum!

great ideas!!

well my day was jam packed. i went into work early and left late.. but i did have a hair appointment in between so it was all good in the hood.

meal 1: oikos 0%+shredded spoonfuls+maranatha no stir PB @ 8:30 AM

11-3-09 001

mm. an organic trifecta! i can never get my PB to drizzle like some girls i know.. what is your secret?

11-3-09 006

shredded spoonfuls still hold #1 for favorite cereal at the moment!

i worked my morning away and at 10:00 i went and got my hair did. lovely. blondie. fresh cut. the end.

on my way back to the office i realized i simply had to celebrate national sandwich day!

i hit up a super delicious little spot near my work called town & country market and picked up a sandwich before heading back to the office.

meal 2: turkey sandwich on wheat @ 12:45 PM

11-3-09 007

as you can see.. i ate this at the finest dining location around.. my desk. sometimes ya gotta!

11-3-09 009

this sandwich had almost everything.. they were out of avocado! for shame. but it did include:

  • whole grain bread
  • mustard
  • cheddar cheese
  • turkey
  • onions
  • olives
  • pickles
  • tomatoes
  • sprouts
  • lettuce
  • salt & pepper

11-3-09 011

i managed to sneak bites in as i replied to an angry customer and did a lot of accounting work. oh yes.. i sure love being the customer relations manager AND the accountant. among other things. oh well, job security, right? ;)

after a loooong work day.. longer than randy the basset hound and yulek the dachshund combined.. i ran a plethora of errands and finally made it home around seven thirty.

i immediately made a latte~ my roomie wanted me to show her how to use my espresso machine and i was more than happy to demonstrate a how-to. i had a triple shot latte with unsweetened vanilla almond breeze. i don’t know how i ever drank cow’s milk. blech. almond milk is where it’s at!

11-3-09 012

my new roommate is amazing and he cooked dinner! i was going to make goat cheese and garlic stuffed chicken with sweet potato rounds (cheeeeetahs) but when he offered to cook dinner i accepted his offer and packed for california while he slaved away!

meal 3: cheese tortellini+ground turkey+marinara @ 8:30 PM

11-3-09 020

11-3-09 021

nothing short of amazing. i am super glad he likes to cook! i am sure we will have some fun dinner parties in the future.

it took awhile to pack for my trip.. mainly because of this distraction:

side note.. there are a bunch of dog toys in my suitcase because i used it during the move.. no, i am not taking the dog toys to cali!

11-3-09 014

i die. she is so dang cute! too bad i can’t take her along. allison and i have been plotting a way to smuggle our pups into the foodbuzz festival.. but i am just not sure we are going to pull it off!!

i finally got everything packed (i am fairly certain i totally overpacked!) and then headed up to marshall’s house.  after some slacking and food network watching i decided to pull out the laptop and type this here post.  and there you have it.

well tomorrow is national candy day and i cannot celebrate. my new years resolution (as well as marshall’s) was no more candy.  i am happy to say neither he or i have had one single piece of candy in 2009!

i will leave you with a couple new websites that made me laugh today.. totally non-food related!

SO.. i am up at 5 AM tomorrow and off to the airport at 6! which means i have to wake up in about five hours and twenty minutes. oy vey. my agenda is jam packed for the next five days!

  • fly to cali
  • hang time with sister & her fam wednesday, thursday & friday morning
  • lunch with deb in san fran friday afternoon (i hope!?)
  • check into the foodbuzz fest & meet up with a bunch of cool ladies i am staying with!
  • foodbuzz shenanigans friday night through sunday morning!
  • lunch with sister & her fam sunday afternoon
  • back to the SLC sunday night

i am going to miss these sweeties..

11-3-09 024

randy is somewhere being antisocial.. i will miss him too!

i will try to post a few things here and there and i also have some stellar guest posts lined up.. so stay tuned!

ok, time for me to bail.  can’t wait to see some of you this weekend and i hope the rest of you have a fabulous rest of your week & fun weekend!!

Qs~

Awww, I hope you do get to meet up with Deb and I hope you have a wonderful, safe trip!

…Have you become a “three meals” girl, or is that just a one-off thing for today? If you are, I support it! ;)

Just recently discovered lamebook too. It amuzes me to no end.

1. I prefer almond milk but in England, soy is more accessible so that is what I buy.
2. Didn’t even know about it! My fave candy is probably Snickers or Hershey’s kisses :) Oh, or Starbursts!

Have a GREAT time!

mayapamela November 4, 2009 at 1:15 am

I do like almond milk…especially over soy milk. But I am rethinking the situation a little bit. Because almond milk does not provide the nutrition stats of cow milk. But I do understand the controversy involving dairy, particularly in relation to the hormones and everything. I think that, when I have my own household, I will purchase organic dairy. In the mean time, I try and avoid the whole milk scene in general, unless I am cooking and need some for say mashed potatoes. When eating cereal and such I go for yogurt. Even if it isn’t organic it has the probiotic benefits!

Reeses’ peanut butter cups are the best! And heath toffee bars. I do not have the opportunity to express this love enough, but I LOVE TOFFEE.

Have a great time!

Coco November 4, 2009 at 4:49 am

I have the same peanut butter drizzle problem as you. How do they all do it!!!???
Love your yogurt combo. Shredded Spoonfuls are the shit mmm mmm..
I never told you my fav sandwich, but its probably caprese with pesto on really good baguette or a thanksgiving leftover sandwich on really hearty whole wheat with tons of grainyness to it.
Have an awesome time you lucky girl!

Lauren November 4, 2009 at 4:57 am

AWww, I am touched that my sammy made your Top List! And you could totally use cinnamon bread with no raisins but just make sure its a sweet bread because that has soooo much to do with the entire experience! ;)

I definitely enjoy Almond Milk the best. I use to only drink Soy, but after discovering this obession I have for Almond Milk, I can’t get away from the stuff.

Wow hun, what a couple of days you have planned. Wishing you a safe and wonderful trip and I can’t wait to see and hear all about it!

Love ya girl!

Paige @ Running Around Normal November 4, 2009 at 6:20 am

Aww. Penelope is SO darn cute. My kitty always jumps in my suitcase as I’m packing – it pulls on the ol’ heart strings.
Good for you for sticking with your New Year’s resolution. Candy isn’t worth it anyway!! :)
Have a safe flight this morning, and have a BLAST!

Kristin November 4, 2009 at 6:26 am

That sammie looks delicious! I love when they’re stuffed with tons of delicious ingredients =)

Dogs in suitcase= too cute.

I love almond milk, or 1% cow’s.

And candy… Oh Henry, all the way! Which I usually can not find in the US… luckily my Canadian boyfriend loves me and sends me some =)

Have fun at the festival, I’m so jealous and I can’t wait to hear all about it!

asssshuilfhsduigfuisldhuifs !!! (THATS MY EXCITEDNESS) SEE YOU SOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN :)

Susan November 4, 2009 at 6:43 am

That sandwich looks amazing!!!!

1. EW to cow’s milk. Almond or soy all the way.

2. If we’re excluded chocolate, then my favourite candy are suckers and twizzlers. But I really don’t like to discriminate when it comes to candy ;)

Have a blast in San Fran!!!!

Stacy (Eating To Live Love Laugh Tri) November 4, 2009 at 6:47 am

I am in love with Shredded Spoonfuls! I keep buying other types of cereal but then I am disappointed by their lack of shredded spoonfullness and I go back to my first love! It is good to see I am not the only one who is smitten with this cereal!

For the record, I am a soy milk kind of girl.

eatolive November 4, 2009 at 7:10 am

j’adore your suticase. in reality, i love anything a that is a nice color yellow (not uring yellow or i wanna gauge my eyes out yellow, but nice and pretty yellows :) ) and your suitcase fits the nice and pretty yellow category! it must be SUPER easy to find when it comes to baggage check!

have a safe flight and amazing time in california!! it’s a faaabulous state!!

xoxoxo

Graze With Me November 4, 2009 at 7:12 am

I hate when sandwich places run out of avocado! That’s the best part of a turkey sandwich to me.

Looks like your roomie sitch is going to be fun – can’t wait to see what you guys cook up.

Have a blast in CA, I really wanted to go to the festival but we just can’t afford that right now. :(

1) I’ve tried to love almond milk but I still like the taste of soy much better.

2) Fav candy? I’d say either snickers, Reese’s Fast Break bars or Whoppers!

Megan November 4, 2009 at 7:28 am

HAVE FUN IN SAN FRAN!! I can’t wait to hear all about it.. I’m super jealous you’re going!!

1. I’m straight up skim milk.. I’m not a huge fan of almond milk.

2. My favorite candy.. mmm REESES!!! Totally miiight have to celebrate National Candy Day a little…. ;)

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) November 4, 2009 at 7:30 am

OK lots to say:
Yes to saturday- give me a call when you know your schedule!

Please share the PB drizzle secret when your gals inform you about the technique!

I thought you said “the randy Basset hound” not “Randy, the basset hound”…you know what that means, right ;-)

Milk- I’m an equal opportunity drinker. Candy- absolute fave would be Reese’s or M&Ms.

Jocelyn November 4, 2009 at 7:35 am

Hey girl! Hope you have a blast at the food buzz festival :)

I sometimes crave regular skim milk – but I usually go for almond milk :)

Also I WILL celebrate candy day! I loooove galaxy mistle toe kiss chocolate (they are out now!) But you usually have to go to a british store for those :0 Good thing we have some here in good ole canada :)

Lizzy November 4, 2009 at 7:46 am

i hope you have the time of your life in Cali my love! :)

http://saladdiva.wordpress.com

*Andrea* November 4, 2009 at 7:58 am

i loooove almond milk + soy milk + rice milk. sometimes hemp but only in my oats because it gets them super thick and creamy lol. have fun in cali! i went there once in high school a few years ago and LOVED it.

Tiffany S. November 4, 2009 at 8:00 am

Have a GREAT GREAT trip! I can’t wait to hear alllll about the festival!

Congrats on not eating ANY candy! You rock! I know it’s not easy. Even I probably snuck a piece in somewhere this year but I didn’t buy any. Whoohoo!

I love rice and almond milk. :)

Ildie November 4, 2009 at 8:05 am

You travel a lot and yes, yes I am jealous! :)

I LOVE Almond Breeze, Vanilla, Original and Chocolate. GIVE IT TO ME!

Candy wise…. Hmmm… I love Swedish Fish and spicy dark chocolate.

HAVE FUN ON YOUR TRIP LADY!

allijag November 4, 2009 at 8:42 am

brandi November 4, 2009 at 9:54 am

ah, I can’t wait to meet you!!! I hope your travels are good. We have to get up at like 2:30 am on Friday…blech. But it will be worth it!

I wish coffee places here would stock almond milk.

ksgoodeats November 4, 2009 at 10:11 am

Woohoo for living with an awesome cook! Dinner looks great! I hope you have a safe trip and I can’t wait to hear about it. Enjoy meeting all the bloggies :)

1. Almond milk for me!
2. I’m not a big candy girl but Reese’s fo’ sho!

Jenny November 4, 2009 at 10:30 am

mmm drizzalibity depends on a few things…
a.) the nut butter, some or definitely more “liquidy” than others (which are my fav kinds!)
b.) it also helps if your adding the nut butter to something that’s warm

i actually did a video post with my drizzle technique — check it out hurrr if you are so inclined, muffin!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ww2JRQ3qnOU

I lurve chocolate almond milk and soymilk as well — unfortunately, soymilk does not agree with my tummy :( wahhh!

love you, J! xo

julie November 4, 2009 at 10:58 am

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh have SOOOO much fun girl :)

I won’t like that I’m SUPER jealous of your mini vaca. You’re gonna have a kick bootay time though!

Sweet and Fit November 4, 2009 at 11:12 am

Lynn @ The Actors Diet November 4, 2009 at 11:47 am

i’m so sad i won’t be coming to san fran to meet the lovely janetha b. have fun and enjoy!!!

Angharad (Eating for England) November 4, 2009 at 12:14 pm

1) I am really into Almond Milk too. I would say it’s my fave (and it is on almost everything) except that I need skim milk in my tea…and since I’m British, I cannot live without my tea :)
2) Ooooh. Candy is bad. Like, so good it’s bad. I love toblerone too! Reminds me of airports for some reason.

Super cool that your roomate likes to cook – that is the best! So glad you celebrated sandwiches in such a rad way as well. That one looks killer!
Have such an amazing time at Foodbuzz!!! Can’t wait to hear alll about it!

fittingbackin November 4, 2009 at 1:44 pm

Yum! Now I want a sandwich. And tortellini. I never thought to put ground turkey with it – smart!

My favorite milk is your standard fat-free milk. I think i’ve been celebrating national candy day for the last few weeks…. :)

The Healthy Apple November 4, 2009 at 1:53 pm

Happy national sandwich day…yours looks delish…and I love the combo of tortellini and ground turkey for dinner..yum.
I’m looking forward to meeting you in San Fran on Friday for the Foodbuzz Festival!

Tina November 4, 2009 at 2:09 pm

I wish you loads and loads of fun!

Fav milk is almond too (homemade especially with honey and cinnamon… yummness!)

And I think I’ll celebrate with my favourite fresh, market-bought MEGA-dates… nature’s candy and soooo yummy..

Love you!

Andrea@WellnessNotes November 4, 2009 at 2:28 pm

Have a great trip and fun at the Foodbuzz Festival. It’s too bad I can’t go; it’s so close to where I live…

Erin November 4, 2009 at 2:36 pm

OMG I will totally steal the puppy while you’re gone!!!! jk. ;)

No candy celebrating for me.

luckytastebuds November 4, 2009 at 3:41 pm

Almond milk for Janetha, Almond milk for me too! I have tried hemp milk ice-cream that absolutely rocked my socks off, so I think I’d want to try some hemp milk. Rice milk is a little too watery for me!

I enjoyed just looking at your sandwich. Hahahah it is beautiful and exactly what a good sandwich should be! :)

Unfortunately I can’t do toblerone cuz the nougats love getting stuck in my teeth, but I’m a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of candy. My favorite is Japanese milk candy – literally tastes like sweet milk in your mouth. Yum.

Have a super safe trip Janetha!!!!

traynharder23 November 4, 2009 at 4:37 pm

organic skim. i used to drink soy, but i never got the unsweetened kind, so i just switched to cow. to save money to.

nah, i’ll pass on the candy.

that sandwich looks nommy!

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) November 4, 2009 at 4:37 pm

OK PS:

Total brain fart on the friday vs. saturday thing. Hope it will still work out! :-/

Sam always sits in our suitcases when we take them out “take me WITH you!!” Your pooch’s face just killed me a million times.

Did you admit your guilty secret (and mine) of counting while you fill your water bottle on iamneurotic?

snackface November 4, 2009 at 4:52 pm

GAHHHH!!!! I wanna be in SF tooooo! Will you please stop by the VegNews office to hug everyone for me? Pleeease?

I am all about the So Delicious Coconut Milk beverage! It’s amazing. And I’d been a die-hard almond milk girl for years. Oh how things have changed.

Fave candy is Snickers. And Reece’s. And I’ve had neither :(

Have so much fun!!! And have a safe trip. Love ya! xoxoxo

Katharina November 4, 2009 at 5:23 pm

Wow those sandwich ideas do sound amazing. Have lots of fun in Cali and take loads of pictures. I’m vicariously living through you ;)

1. I love almond milk as well, but I drink soymilk for the most part. I’m so happy they have the Silk Nog and Pumpkin spice flavors out now!

2. Heck yes I will if I remember! My favorite candy? Would have to be anything by Kinder schokoladen.

http://www.ohonemorething.wordpress.com

Sarah November 4, 2009 at 5:52 pm

1. I am an unsweetned vanilla almond breeze girl myself.

2. Now it depends on whether I am eating candy and trying to be “good” or not care at all. If I am trying to be good I reach for dark chocolate anything. Or a chocolate and nut combo. But if I don’t care I absolutely LOVE caramello’s and hershey’s cookie and cream bar. Holy yum.

Michelle November 4, 2009 at 6:00 pm

Have a great trip!! I can’t wait to hear about it! :)

Tay November 4, 2009 at 6:11 pm

Safe flight lovie!! Wish I was going too!

Emily November 4, 2009 at 7:51 pm

how exciting! safe travels and have fun! can’t wait to hear about it.

1. raw almond milk is the best. or raw hemp milk. no dairy or soy for this girl.

2. I didn’t have any candy today :( I did eat some cacao nibs. my favorite candy is just straight up dark chocolate. oooh…

BroccoliHut November 4, 2009 at 9:48 pm

Aw, I feel so cool getting a shout-out on M&M. Glad you liked my Big Mac:)
I really love almond milk too–I just wish it had more protein!

ellie November 5, 2009 at 6:45 am

aaaah…San Fran! Have an amazing time- can’t wait to hear all about it!!!

1. what kind of milk do you prefer? I love almond milk, but don’t love the low protein/calcium in it. Also don’t love that it is sweet (only available sweetened in the UK and no flavoured). I love vanilla soy milk too :)

2. are you going to celebrate national candy day? what is your favorite candy? Nope, not celebrating. Favourite candy would be something with milk chocolate…peanut butter cups would be in my top 5. Maybe Take 5 bars? I’m happy with protein bars or a spoonful of nutella, TBH (have you tried the Carbrite protein bars? SOOOOOO good!)

Jessica (jesslikesithot) November 6, 2009 at 12:02 am

Shredded Spoonfuls are my absolute fave!! I’ve gotten to the bottom of the bag now and they’re all just little crumbles now. I love it :)

The sandwich looks bomb, by the way!! Sooo good!

The pup also looks adorable, as always. Makes me miss mine too!

And… soy or almond milk for Jess.
