i love technology.

in meals,moves

hola bloggettes!  it is safe to assume i have no man readers and if i do they have never made themselves known.. so i figure i can open with a greeting that pertains strictly to the ladies.. right, ok. glad we got that established!

it has been another long day today.. but not nearly as bad as yesterday.  a few reasons why today was better than yesterday:

  • i got 9 solid hours of sleep last night
  • i actually had time to eat a decent breakfast AND lunch

i love winter. a lot of you hate it though, according to the answers from my last post. i vote you send all of your snow to salt lake city.. although emily might protest to this request ;)

let’s talk meals & moves!

sooo.. breakfast came later than expected because a) i was 20 minutes late for work and b) i was pulled into two different meetings AND had to help my boss figure out his facebook page all before i had a chance to get into the kitchen to cook my oats. sheesh!

meal 1: mighty maple protein oats @ 10:30 AM

my camera was dying so i didn’t really have a chance to get any artsy fancy photos in. but i did get a little swirled goodness caught on film.

hmmm i guess in this digital world we live in it wouldn’t really be called “film” now would it? ah.. remember back in the day before digital cameras?! i would take months to finally get around to developing a roll of film.. and i would always forget what exactly was on each roll.  developing the photos was always such a treat!  can you believe we used to have to wait a few DAYS to actually see what our photos turned out like? i mean, when they came out with one hour photo that was the bee’s knees.  we were all stoked that technology was so brilliant that we could have our film developed in AN HOUR.

think about now days.  instead of taking only one photo of something we take three, four.. maybe even more!  just to get the perfect shot.. someone takes our photo, we look at it immediately.. don’t like the way that one turned out? a bad smile? blinking? no biggie, take ten more!

technology blows me away sometimes when i just stop and think about how things were just over a decade ago.

sorry to go off there. i am in a ramble mood i guess!

meal 2: mega large whole foods salad!! @ 1:30 PM

 IMG_7413 IMG_7414 IMG_7415

mmmm. there was no way in hell i was going to eat another luna bar for lunch. i bolted out of the office and went straight to the promised land.. er, um, whole foods.

in the mix:

  • spinach
  • arugula
  • corn
  • peas
  • garbanzos
  • mushrooms
  • cauliflower
  • broccoli
  • cucumber
  • baby corn
  • sweet chile tofu
  • chicken
  • sunflower seeds
  • feta
  • topped with balsamic vinegar

i think my body really NEEDED those veggies. this whole no groceries business is wearing on me.. it was so nice to eat such a veggie packed fresh lunch!

so i ate this bad boy at whole foods, no i could not wait and take it back to the office, and i just sat at the table by myself (taking photos of my salad.. people probably thought i belonged in the loony bin no doubt) and just enjoyed the people watching as i ate my salad.

i am not one of those people who like to go to restaurants alone, order something, sit down by myself and eat. i never do that. i always, always, always get the food to go.  but this time, i couldn’t wait. and i had errands to run after lunch. and i didn’t want to eat in my car. so i ate at a table. alone. and i enjoyed it. weird, maybe i am getting old.

anyway, back to work i went! i got a new printer/scanner/copier today. solid. you can bet your sweet ass i will be scanning in some of those old film steeze photos i was talking about earlier for some flashback friday action!

at five i was hungry but had nothing on hand and too much to do, so i fell back on a luna bar. again. the stash is slowly depleting! at least this one was the flavor i like, unlike yesterday’s peanut butter cookie fail.

meal 3: nuts & cranberry luna @ 5:00 PM

 IMG_7424 IMG_7425

it is probably not safe to eat and drive.

it is probably even worse to eat, drive AND take a photo of the whole process.

what can i say, i live on the edge.

soooo the next few hours were spent packing up odds and ends at the old house and stuffing them into my subaru and unpacking them at the new house. sigh, one more load down.. probably 2 or 3 to go. i moved all my major stuff sunday but i realized i have a whole bunch of crap left at the old house.. bah. i hate moving with a passion.

so by the time i got done with that whole process.. it was 8:30. i was literally craving a workout!

lower body workout!

  • barbell deadlifts
    • 12 @ 25#
    • 50 ball crunches
    • 10 @ 30#
    • 50 ball crunches
    • 8 @ 40#
    • 50 ball crunches
    • 6 @ 50#
    • 50 ball crunches
    • 12 @ 40#
  • stability ball hamstring curls
    • 12 reps
  • bulgarian split squats
    • 12 @ 16#
    • 20 bench tuck crunches
    • 10 @ 20#
    • 20 bench tuck crunches
    • 8 @ 25#
    • 20 bench tuck crunches
    • 6 @ 30#
    • 20 bench tuck crunches
    • 12 @ 16#
  • ball-against-wall squats
    • 12 @ 16#
  • 50 lower ab crunches on decline bench
  • 50 oblique twists w/ 10# weight on decline bench
  • weighted calf raises
    • 12 @ 20#
    • 20 walking lunges w/ 10# & leg raise

    • 20 walking lunges w/ 10# & leg raise
    • 8 @ 60#
    • 20 walking lunges w/ 10# & leg raise
    • 6 @ 80#
    • 20 walking lunges w/ 10# & leg raise
    • 12 @ 20#
  • single leg calf raises
    • 12 each leg @ body weight

the end. sooo.. i have misplaced my HRM watch. eep. and i have things at the old house, the new house, my car, marshall’s house, at work.. it could be anywhere. say a little prayer so i will find it! ack!

after my workout i realized i was going to my new house.. and have not one morsel of food there.. and i also have no idea what that whole kitchen situation is yet, as i have moved in with two people i really don’t know.. so i decided to stop by the store and grab something.. i wandered around for a bit and knew i wanted protein and fresh fruit.

i finally decided on an apple and some cheese. can’t go wrong with cheese. right?

meal 4: string cheese & cheddar cheese & a braeburn apple @ 9:30 PM

so my camera died right after this blurry photo. and i didn’t get a photo of the apple. but i am fairly certain you all know what an apple looks like. and if you don’t, take a look at susan. last i heard she was turning into one!

i ate my cheese and apple in my car. and emailed deb from my phone. i love deb.

i came home and rearranged the heaps of boxes, bags, etc that are taking over my room.. put the sheets on my mattress and opened up my laptop in hopes the wireless connection was quality here at the new house. success!! so i decided to blog instead of unpack. sometimes ya gotta.

i sure have my work cut out for me.. lots of unpacking, a few more things to move.. cleaning.. blah blah blah. i think i will leave the majority of it for after my trip to san fran for the foodbuzz festival!

well it is past 11 and i have to get up early.. first night sleeping at the new house! kinda wish marshall & the dogs were here but they are all up at his place. i am a lonely janetha b! i am curious to see how much longer it will take me to get to work in the morning. i live a tad further from my office than i used to. but not much. we shall see!

ok, ok.. enough rambling. google reader is up past 100 again but i have got to get some shut eye. and figure out where i packed my toothbrush!

1. how do you feel about sitting down and eating alone in restaurants? i used to never, ever do it.. but after today i realized that it is not all that bad! i just may do it more often.

2. why was your tuesday better than your monday? my reasons are listed at the beginning of this post!

snowing?! seriously?!?!?!

i like eating alone in restaurants. i like to people watch.

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) October 28, 2009 at 12:17 am

Eating at a restaurant alone is only done if I am traveling alone and truly have no kitchen access of my own (i.e. staying in a hotel) AND I truly have no one to dine with. I would rather go to a movie alone than eat alone but sometimes you just have to when hunger strikes!

Glad you got 9 hrs of sleep. Wow I need to go to bed NOW in order to get 6.

nitey nite love :)

mayapamela October 28, 2009 at 2:40 am

I feel ya on the picture thing! I feel like more spontaneous pictures were taken, because now we’re so likely to delete something quickly without really looking at the photo, you know?

Beautiful blue eyes!

prinny October 28, 2009 at 4:02 am

Snow?! I’m jealous!!!

I really don’t like eating alone in restaurants, but have to do it when I travel for work… I always try to peoplewatch but usually just end up reading ;-)

runningaroundnormal October 28, 2009 at 4:40 am

Wow that WF salad looks freakin’ awesome. And girl, if I could send you ALL of Illinois’ snow, I would;)
Technology blows me away too. I was talking to my husband the other day, and we were saying that it’s progressed SO much, yet, there’s still powerlines on every road! Wonder when that will change…

1. I rarely do this either. When I used to work at Panera, I had to when I took my breaks, but that’s it. I should try it out, though! I love people watching:)

2. Tuesday was about the same as Monday – both were good!

Lauren October 28, 2009 at 4:55 am

It is amazing how far we’ve come with techonology. Just yesterday, someone was asking if we had a Polaroid camera at work. One of the girls replied “DO they even still make those anymore?” LOL

I don’t think I would mind eating by myself but I think it depends on what kind of restaraunt it is. Like, I don’t think I could go into a fancy shmacy sit down place and enjoy a full meal by my lonesome, but somewere like Panera or WH, yeah that would work.

I wish my Tuesday was better than my Monday! Ugh, its a rough week. :(

Emily (The Experimentarian) October 28, 2009 at 5:38 am

WF, YAY! I don’t really mind eating alone because I like to read while I eat. Bad, I know. My Tuesday was definitely LONGER than my Monday. I had to work til 9:00. cripes.

balancejoyanddelicias October 28, 2009 at 5:41 am

I don’t have problem to sit alone and eat if the place is a casual place or fast food, I’d never go to a fancy restaurant by my own.
Tuesday was better than monday, full of unexpected things happened! :)

Alison October 28, 2009 at 6:19 am

Oh man – moving makes life so stressful, I’m about to take on this challenge myself in just a few short weeks. Packing up and moving a whole house? Here we go.

OK it’s Wednesday but what made my Tuesday better than Monday? Peanut butter brownies for the hubby’s birthday – that’s what!

Kristin October 28, 2009 at 6:28 am

I love Whole Foods salads. I hardly ever sit alone at restaurants, but I’m ok in coffee shops… so I’m sure it wouldn’t be bad! Being alone can be relaxing.

Tuesday was not better than Monday. This week is KILLER!

Hope yours keeps getting better, good luck with moving!

Abby October 28, 2009 at 6:29 am

When I travel for work, it’s usually by myself, so I have no problem doing the solo restaurant act. Sometimes I get looks, but whatever. Food is food, and it’s just a meal, right? I like to people watch :)

Congrats on the first night in a new house. It always feels like you’re crashing at someone else’s place for the first couple of weeks, but soon it will feel like home!

Hmmm…at least it wasn’t raining on Tuesday, so that made it marginally better than Monday.

brandi October 28, 2009 at 6:36 am

snow already? I hope we get some snow this winter.

I’m not a huge fan of eating alone, either, but I’m much better with it now that I’m a little older.

Emily (Healthy Fit Mama) October 28, 2009 at 6:44 am

Oh man – I miss the Whole Foods Salad Bar sooo much!

1) I don’t eat alone unless I’m travelling by myself.

2) My Tuesday was waaaay better than my Monday because I was offered a great job! :-)

eatolive October 28, 2009 at 7:06 am

i will onlyyyy eat alone if i’m traveling or if it’s a quick quick pit stop. i would never be able to walk into a sit down restaurant, and eat alone. nothankyou.

tuesday was better than monday bc i got to leave work early (yay) because of a doctors appt (boo) but then came home to bake some birthday cookies for a friend (yay) and eat dinner with the boy (yay) :)

yay for moving! (not the actual moving part but the getting settled in a fabulous new place part)loves!

Jocelyn October 28, 2009 at 7:22 am

We get extra snow here..(ontario canada) I doubt you would want all of ours lol…

I’m glad you had your cranberry luna bar instead of the pb one today :)

I don’t like going to restaurants alone unless it’s like a coffee shop where I can bring my lap top lol

And my Tuesday was better then monday because I had a half day off (which I never get) And I discovered a new health shop (fiddleheads) that has an organic juice bar in it and new kinds of larabars! (tropical fruit) It was a joyous day!

Whit October 28, 2009 at 7:23 am

Because it’s Tuesday. duh. One day closer to Friday. Love.

Steph October 28, 2009 at 7:23 am

I think Whole Foods is the only place I will dine alone! I tried to bring my salad home once and ended up trying to eat it while driving on the freeway….I just couldn’t wait!

I don’t like to dine alone, but in Whole Foods I don’t care!

Ya, my Tuesday was WAY better than Monday because I didn’t have to work :)

Katie October 28, 2009 at 7:43 am

sooo much snow here too…I have a snow day!! I can’t complain about the snow when it gets me a day off of work. I’ll keep it for now.

I am like you…I used to NEVER eat alone, but have recently discovered it’s not that bad.

My Tuesday was better than Monday because a long meeting that I was dreading was canceled! Whohoo!

Enjoy the new house!

Meg October 28, 2009 at 7:56 am

Technology sometimes freaks me out with how advance it is, and how advanced it’s still getting. Ya know? Gotta love it, though, most of the time ;)

I think eating alone is great sometimes – maybe we’re all getting old :P Not to mention – who would wanna share those Whole Foods goodies?!

Enjoy your day!

Graze With Me October 28, 2009 at 8:00 am

I’ve never had a salad from WF, or their hot bar – shocking, I know! I think the reason I haven’t is because I’m afraid I’ll end up with a $20 meal…

1) I always get food to go and eat in my car. I’m such a loner.

2) My Tuesday was better because I got a workout in!

Erika October 28, 2009 at 8:02 am

I love Tuesday better than Monday bc it is one day closer to the weekend! :)

And I will eat alone someplace like Panera, Whole Foods, but not a “real” restaurant. Although I do love eating along at home with a good book or magazine.

Lizzy October 28, 2009 at 8:17 am

I’ve eaten alone, and to be honest i actually enjoy it. i love spending time with myself and just enjoying my surroundings! but i do prefer to have someone to talk to!!!

Holly October 28, 2009 at 8:23 am

i am pretty sure going to restaurants/movies/shopping/etc. alone is one of my favorite things to do. the ability to just sit and enjoy your meal at your pace is amazing.

ummm i am going to make protein oats tomorrow janetha b-style. cannnnnot waiiitttt! ahhhh…hope you are well. we need to chat soon – i feel like it has been 4eva!

april October 28, 2009 at 8:24 am

That salad looks so good! Whole foods salad bars are so darn expensive though.. it sucks!

I’m impressed that you can workout in the evening! I can’t workout past like 6. I’m way too lazy!

julie October 28, 2009 at 8:32 am

ahh this may sound weird but I really do love eating alone. I think of it as quality me time but I always try and have something to “read” even though I’m most likely not reading and more likely watching people, I just like to pretend that I’m reading haha

Ildie October 28, 2009 at 8:40 am

Eating out alone….. Not sure that I’ve ever done it. Not surprising since I only go out to eat once in a blue moon. I’m a slave to my kitchen. HA!

Tuesday was better because I actually had some sleep last night. Arm pain is MUCH better. I’m healing and scabbing up nicely. :)

Lindsay October 28, 2009 at 10:11 am

I will gladly send you all of my snow! Are you accepting ice as well? I really hate ice in the winter!

I don’t really like going to restaurants by myself. I do it once in a while but usually get my food to go.

My Tuesday was better than my Monday because Morgan was in a much better mood last night!

Erica October 28, 2009 at 10:29 am

9 hours of sleep? I’m so jealous- sounds fantastic! haha- we just had that conversation about time prior to digital cameras the other day. I used to get SO excited to go to CVS to get my prints.

I’ve never had the toasted nuts and cranberry luna- any good??

Moving is a total pain in the butt. After our last move…I swore I’d never do it again haha.

LOVE the mouse and cheese costume- what a great idea.

Why was my Tuesday better than my Monday? I got to teach Attack! My favorite class

Jenny October 28, 2009 at 10:40 am

“yesssss I love technology, but not as much as you you see, sure the world wide web is great, but you you make me salivate” — napolean dynamite reference?

ohhh I remember my days toting around my disposable cameras. I’m pretty sure I still have some from my 8th grade graduation waiting to be developed

Hope your hump day is fab and your HRM stops hiding! Love you :)

m i c h e l l e October 28, 2009 at 10:42 am

Salad and workout: very impressive!

I LOVE eating out by myself. Always have (don’t worry, I love company too but with three little ones I enjoy the silence and a good book from time to time while I eat)

HealthySDLiving October 28, 2009 at 11:10 am

Hmm I don’t really mind eating by myself as long as I have something to distract me–a book, magazine, people watching…

My Tuesday was better than Monday because I had it OFF! :)

luckytastebuds October 28, 2009 at 11:58 am

No no, eating alone doesn’t mean you’re getting old my dear! I enjoyed eating alone in college when I have to cram for a mid-term during the meal. :) Some peace and quiet never hurt anyone! You get to focus on all your tasty food right??

Hmm I think my Monday was better than my Tuesday. Oh well….

Rais October 28, 2009 at 12:28 pm

whew,,, seeing this making me hungry,,,

lowandbhold October 28, 2009 at 2:29 pm

I’m so jealous of your whole foods salad I could cry! Glad you got a good workout in to satisfy your craving, and YAY for 9 hours of sleep.

I don’t mind eating alone at fast food-ish places – but at nicer restaurants I feel awkward.

Susan October 28, 2009 at 2:39 pm

Feel free to send that snow up here now, I’ve got my snow tires on now :D

Not gonna lie, I was scared you still had a lot of work ahead of you when you said you still had some small things at your old place. Only because I did the same thing when I moved, and it took me for-EVER to get the rest of my small crap out of my apartment! Whyyyy do we own so much crap? I hope it’s mostly in the new place now :)

1. I eat alone all the time and actually really enjoy it. I grab a newspaper or magazine, find a nice window seat, and just zone out with my food. I don’t eat and talk at the same time anyways, so company is not always necessary over mealtime.

2. I quit my job on Tuesday!!! Woooooooot!!!! :D

Tina October 28, 2009 at 3:11 pm

Janetha, dollface! I’m so glad to be back :D

Thank you so much for your loving, supporting and wonderful comments. Knowing you were there for me really kept me going!

I am a winter lover too! I don’t know why people don’t like it. I mean, when it’s cold, you can always go to a warmer place, but when it’s hot, you can’t always go to a cooler place. And on top of that ‘t is the season to be jolly! Which pretty much brings me to the fact that winter rocks because of Santa :D (and Rudolf, and snow, and pretty lights, and holiday food and I could go on forever)….

1. I don’t think that that’s something I’ll ever witness in the Netherlands. Here going out to eat is very special (in America, people eat out very often). That makes for a few interesting differences between eateries in America and in the Netherlands. First of all, in America, they can cater to a wider range of diets (anything from vegetarian to raw) and you have many “healthy options”, but in the Netherlands it’s something you do on special occasions, so if you’re lucky you’ll get vegetarian options, but healthy? Not per se… And on top of that, you will probably NEVER see someone eat alone at a restaurant. That is unheard of here. But all in all, I think America is much more foodie-friendly, I mean, in Holland you have to have a REASON to go out and eat… uhm… does being a foodie count? (a)

2. Tuesday was better cause… I had the whole day to play with my new juicer!

Love you lots!

ksgoodeats October 28, 2009 at 3:33 pm

Facebook trumps breakfast these days? I would have been one angry girl if someone got between me and my breakfast ;)

I think moving would make me have a nervous breakdown! When we recarpeted, I basically moved in and out of my room and that was too much.

1. I don’t eat by myself at restaurants but if it’s like a caf or I’m in between classes, I don’t mind eating by myself.
2. No, no, and no! Hah, Tuesday sucked!!

Andrea@WellnessNotes October 28, 2009 at 3:51 pm

I was a lot more productive yesterday than on Monday. That made the day better.

I used to never ever eat in a restaurant alone. But now, I don’t care anymore and do whatever I feel like…. And I actually enjoy the rare occasions I get to sit by myself in peace… I guess it means I’m old.

Emily October 28, 2009 at 4:49 pm

I’m sad at the thought of snow. even it is an irrational sadness, since it doesn’t generally snow in LA :)

1. eating out alone doesn’t really appeal to me. I’ve done it a couple of times, mostly out of necessity, on campus, with books to keep me company.

2. yes, tuesday was better than monday. and wednesday is currently better than tuesday :) hope your wednesday is even better than tuesday as well!!

jocelynsteiber October 28, 2009 at 5:19 pm

Hey babe- It took me a while to get on the bandwagon and try oats with peanut butter but I had it for breakfast today and it was delicious!! My new ADDICTION.

1) I used to HATE eating alone at restaurants but as long as I have a book or newspaper now I don’t mind it at all. It’s nice sometimes to just enjoy your food by yourself.

2) Today was pretty SHITTY for me (besides my lovely bfast of course) I got the bill for my ER vist (eeeek) You best believe I’m getting health insurance now!

Glad all is well

snackface October 28, 2009 at 5:55 pm

I’m responding reallll quick. I started eating in restaurants alone in high school–I loved it! If I felt anyone was giving me the stink eye, I told myself I was a practicing restaurant reviewer. Loved it ever since.

Tuesday was better than Monday because…I was in a chipper mood. Well, I was chipper both days, but even moreso Tuesday.

Hope you’re 100% back to normal today. LOVE YOU!

Emily October 28, 2009 at 7:56 pm

I only eat alone in restaurants if I have a book to read!

Katharina October 28, 2009 at 8:24 pm

1. I like it! I think it’s really relaxing and it really feels like you’re taking time out of your day.

2. Tuesday was better because my critique brought relief to all my stress.

Whole Body Love October 28, 2009 at 10:17 pm

I don’t mind dining out alone…sometimes I really enjoy the alone time! I do mind the strange looks from passers by

jenngirl October 29, 2009 at 7:38 am

haha blog pics while driving..totally livin’ on the edge ;)

1. i’ve never eaten out alone, but i have a feeling i’d be pretty cool with it. i recently enjoyed a glass of wine while waiting on friends at a bar, and really savored those “me time” moments in public.

2. tuesday was better than monday because i had a really productive advisor meeting and finished my personal statement!

Lee October 29, 2009 at 6:49 pm

I used to get so excited when I would take my film rolls to the grocery store to get processed.

Deb (SmoothieGirlEatsToo) October 29, 2009 at 9:17 pm

Thanks for the parking lot email & shout :-)

1. I always have the health or food section (how typical) in my purse, so I read while I eat.

2. I worked out and a friend came to visit! :-)
