not again.

in meals

i am afraid to type it. i am sick again.

insert pissed off face:

meals

wait, wasn’t this why i got my tonsils out? so i wouldn’t get sick every month this winter?! i am annoyed. real annoyed. actually i think the reason i got sick this time around was not my body’s fault.  before i got my tonsils out i was prone to sinus infections and super sore throats.. but this sickness is different. i am sneezy, coughy, tired, headache to the maxxx. and so are like four of the girls that were at the bachelorette party. no, we were not all making out with each other.. sorry boys.. but something must have been in the air and i caught it. damn. and it conveniently happened after i took 3 days off exercise because i was SO busy all weekend. double damn.

BUT.. thanks to susan, low and a few other gals in blogland i was reassured that it is okay to not workout for awhile.  it is not the end of the world that my last workout was last thursday. my health is what matters most and i am glad i don’t feel guilty about missing my workouts. plus, i have had extra time to get things packed since i have to be moved out in ten days! eep!

low said something in this post about her weight loss journey that hit home and i wanted to share: “I don’t care how long it takes me to get there, as long as the progress is going in the right direction.” bravo. i couldn’t have said it better myself. so i won’t. i will leave it at that.

i think i better go to the doctor! i don’t pay $170 a month for health insurance for nothing. bah. so pricey! but so necessary.. i am a basket case and NEED all sorts of insurance.

anyway, WOW! thanks for all the awesome comments on my 6 month anniversary post! you guys are sweet. and i don’t use the word “blogiversary” because i hate it. to tell you the truth, i really hate the word “blog”.. it just sounds so gross to me. i am a freak, moving on.

in regards to my weekend recap post i was stoked to hear some old books i forgot about like berenstein bears and judy blume books! YES! oh and for the record, i did not make that tiramisu.. i bought it. my mom wanted to make sure i came clean ;)

now with all that business out of the way, shall we talk eats? yes.

i felt like today was straight out of another childhood book: alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. remember the one? just replace alexander with janetha b.  you will read why.

meal 1: mighty maple protein oats @ 9:00 AM 10:00 AM

meals 987

yeah.. so i got to work a half hour early today because i had.. still have.. a lot of work.. and i know my protein oats take a good 15 minutes to make.  so i arrived early and was stirring the protein powder into my oats at 8:59 AM.  my boss came running into the kitchen, frantically, telling me i HAD TO GO TO THE BANK FOR HIM RIGHT NOW.  um, i just made my oatmeal boss! come on! no, it couldn’t wait.

45 minutes later i came back to gaggy protein oats that had turned into rubbery goo. into the trash they went! round two went a little better.. but it also meant i didn’t get to eat until 10 AM. grumble. glad when i finally ate my oats!

meals 988

meals 990

in addition to my sniffling, sneezing, aching, headachey symptoms.. i was turbo busy to the max and had not even a moment to pee let alone eat. or breathe. or go to the post office. (sorry averie and paige!) SO.. when things let up for a slight second i snuck away to the kitchen and made a rando lunch!

meal 2: black bean & hummus wrap @ 2:00 PM

meals 992

meals 991meals 993

um yeah. the whole not going to the grocery store thing is showing.  but my kitchen clearing challenge proceeds, full speed ahead! this was actually really good.  it was just 1/2 cup black beans mixed with 2 TB sun dried tomato sabra rolled up into a flatout.

well, i ended up working past five o’clock despite coming in early.  when 5 hit i was able to finagle a yogurt from the kitchen and take it back up to my desk without too many people stopping to harass me since everyone was leaving. except for me.

meal 3: pomegranate chobani @ 5:00 PM

meals 994

yeah! i forgot about this guy! i still have the honey and the pineapple to try.. slowly eating my way through all the flavors.

time for a review! and time for a bang trim too, apparently.

meals 1000

usual stats.. just like all the other fruit flavored chobani yogurts i have tried. i am not into such high sugar stats but i do love the protein it packs.

meals 996 meals 997

not some funky color.. that is a plus. and there were bits of pomegranate seeds in there as well!

meals 995

i guess the flavor wasn’t anything to write home about.. the seeds were a nice addition but i didn’t adore this flavor as much as those i have already tried. if i was going to buy some chobani at the store, i would probably opt for another flavor. but it did not taste bad. just average.

final grade: B-

i finally crawled into my house at 6 PM. the gym was not even a question.. it was a flat out no! i was feeling haggard.  so what did i do? drank simply orange OJ with lots of pulp and caught up with my roomies who i didn’t see all weekend.  and lurked your lives caught up on reader a bit. i am now in the 100’s! yeah. getting there.

my appetite was nowhere to be found, as is the case any time i am sick, but i knew i should eat something. and my feet were cold from laying horizontally on the bed with my laptop on my lap so i had to get up to find some socks anyway.. so i made some dinner whipped out the can opener and opened the microwave.

meal 4: chicken noodle soup @ 8:30 PM

meals 1032

wow that is some horrid lighting. sorry folks. my bedroom lights don’t realize that i am a blogger.

one more can cleared from the kitchen! thanks wolfgang, you are a stand up guy when it comes to soup.

meals 1028 meals 1031

sure glad it had his seal and signature of approval! otherwise i may not have eaten it.

meals 1034

ew. another incredibly bad photo. woops. anyway, nothing to jump for joy about, but it made me feel a little bit better. i think feeling fab is out of the question right now!

weird.. it is like my photos went from good, to ok, to really bad.. kinda like my day today! how fitting :P

so there you have it.. my terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day is about to come to a close. sorry to be a downer! no, it is not the worst case scenario. i just think that working long hours, being sick AND being forced to throw breakfast away just all added up and put me in a rotten mood. promise to be sunshine and lollipops tomorrow!

Qs~

1. do you have health insurance? does your employer/spouse’s employer offer it? bah i hate paying so much for it! my employer doesn’t offer it (lame) and when i turned 26 i was booted from my dad’s plan (a real sign of growing up). but i can’t go without it (hello broken humerus from flying 75 feet through the air and landing on solid ice).. so i suck it up and pay the price. marshall doesn’t have insurance though! scary. our employer should REALLY offer it! i am actually surprised that a lot of my friends don’t have it.

and if that question is too boring for you..

2. are you a no pulp, some pulp or lots of pulp type of person? the more pulp the better. i don’t drink juice much (hate drinking calories) but i love a glass of extra pulpy OJ when i am sick!

Janetha- even though you feel sick and yucky, I have to tell you that you look beautiful in the picture with the yogurt (only a foodblogger can say that sentence and not say WTF? :) ) Anyways, I hope you feel better soon!!
I have a question about BFL- can you explain what you do when you are hungry in between your 2-3 hours? do you wait it out and drink water or do you eat a little something? I am usually fine but today my appetite was whack. I worked hard on the elliptical this morning so that might be why but I am just curious… Thanks lady!

Emily October 20, 2009 at 9:20 pm

That is super sucky, I hope you feel better soon!

Coco October 20, 2009 at 9:23 pm

I want you to make me protein oats. And then we go ski. Ok good thanks!

The Foodie Diaries October 20, 2009 at 9:23 pm

Sorry you’re feeling sick.. such a bummer. But you are definitely taking the right approach by taking some time off and planning a doc visit. I NEVER go to the doctor–I’ve been sick for over a week now and I keep brushing it off. My b. I always feel weird going in for cold-like symptoms bc I’m well stocked in the OTC med department haha

Your kitchen clearing meals are still looking delish to moi :)

Susan October 20, 2009 at 9:33 pm

I have to fess up and tell you that I broke the kitchen clearing challenge yesterday and blew all my savings at the grocery store! No wait, that’s a lie too – I don’t have any savings :P Oh well, more ingredients to add to 2-year-old quinoa I guess ;)

1. I just got booted off my dad’s plan too! Luckily, I get it from work at a very low cost. Despite being a “social” Canadian and all, our health care kinda sucks sometimes. It may be cheaper, but good luck finding a doc!

2. I don’t like drinking my calories either. If I had to pick though, no pulp. It gets stuck in my teeth.

Feel better JB! Rest up between packing and working!

broccolihut October 20, 2009 at 9:35 pm

Eek! I hope you feel better ASAP!
Love the sounds of hummus and black beans together–double yum.
1. I have health insurance because I am still a dependent:)
2. I’m with you on the pulp–bring it on!

Megan October 20, 2009 at 9:36 pm

FEEL BETTER!! Being sick is the worst… especially when you can’t taste any delicious food!

100in12 October 20, 2009 at 9:42 pm

firstly, i also don’t care for the word “blog” – i guess i force myself to say it when i need to, but i avoid it at all costs. i find it annoying! :-P

i don’t have health insurance right now. waiting to get a job that will hopefully offer it!

sadly we do not agree on juice as i am vehemently anti-pulp!

feel better!

Angharad (Eating for England) October 20, 2009 at 9:49 pm

So sorry you’re sick again love! I’m sure this doesn’t help much but you look super duper gorgeous in the new-bangs picture. Like hawt.
1) I have health insurance through my employer – thank god. I didn’t have any the first year I lived here. Don’t even get me started on health insurance here, I think it’s about the most effed up thing ever.
2) The more pulpy the better!! LOVE pulp. I don’t drink tons of the stuff but weirdly if I am ever really really super crazy dehydrated then the only beverage I crave (and crave hard) is oj! Strange.
Feel better lady lovely.

Hallie October 20, 2009 at 10:25 pm

AWW I hope you feel better too! I totally have what I call “Alexander days.” Hugs…

I have health insurance through my work. I work in nonprofit and therefore don’t make…anything…so my employer tries to make up for the pitiful salary by giving us decent benefits, so that’s nice. Insurance of all kind is so crappy to deal with though, ugh.

snackface October 20, 2009 at 10:26 pm

Awww Janetha, I’m sorry you’re feeling poopy!! If it’s any compensation, you look gorgeous in the yogurt photo. I have no idea what it is, but you look amazing!

Hmmm these Q’s…I’m still under my parents’ health insurance. Thank goodness!

And OJ…I don’t really drink it because it gives me heartburn! Odd, right? However, if I’m in an odd mood and drink some, I am all about the pulp! Never used to be that way as a kid, though.

I’m sending good health vibes your way! Holla to resting up and not working out! Love you!

Deb (Smoothie Girl Eats Too) October 20, 2009 at 10:29 pm

OH NO! You’re sick?! That blows girl! And I’m sorry that you hate the word blog b/c I use it in every sentence i can and try to morph the word blog into other words: blogcation, bleeps, blanniversary…does that make me a blore?

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) October 20, 2009 at 11:14 pm

Feel better mama! Yes we have health insurance that is not sponsored by our employer (self-employed) and we pay what you pay per month, but add a zero to your $170. I am not kidding. At all. We feel strongly that it’s insurance that would keep up out of bankruptcy god forbid we’d be hospitalized but it’s insane and this country is whack. But this is more than you neeed on a comment :)

You need to take zinc, vit C, coconut oil, astragalus root, echinachea, and the like and sleep my love :) and water.
xoxo

peaceloverunning October 20, 2009 at 11:32 pm

i hope you feel better!

when i was younger i was very anti pulp. but it grew on me last year since my mom loves pulp! now i love it too :)

mayapamela October 20, 2009 at 11:55 pm

Health insurance is SO important and worth the money! Everyone thinks it isn’t…until they need some expensive surgery, medicine, or treatment of some kind. I’m on my parents’ plan for now, but when I’m booted for that I plan on paying for insurance.

And I love orange juice pulp! Makes me feel like I’m drinking real oranges.

Katie October 20, 2009 at 11:56 pm

Booo – sorry for the lousy day. Hope your recover quickly.

Being a teacher, I have the best benefits ever. But, my husband doesn’t have health insurance. Eeek!

I like medium or no pulp. A lot of pulp make me gaggy.

Lara (Thinspired) October 21, 2009 at 5:01 am

I’m so sorry you’re sick! Ugh, nothing is worse.

I have free health insurance because everyone in England is covered by the NHS ;) But I have private too, on top of that. BOO YA, sickness!

Oh, and I love pulp. Totally love it. In ENgland, they advertise the pulp/no pulp thing as “with juicy bits,” which always makes me laugh!

carolinebee October 21, 2009 at 5:10 am

I asked the same insurance question a while ago and got some crayze answers!! But the consensus was most def- YOU NEED INSURANCEEEE!!! Haha everyone had my back fo sho :D I also pay up the wazoo bc I’m not covered by my mom’s plan unless i’m a full time student, and i’m only in 3 classes and not working, eff that!

April October 21, 2009 at 6:05 am

Oh no! I hope you recover soon :( I SWEAR by glutamine. I haven’t been really sick for 3 years! I know you’ve probably heard me say that before ;) When I feel it coming on I snort that stuff!

I had kickazz insurance before I was laid off. We now have it through my hubs.

I’m a more pulp the better type of girl!

Emily (The Experimentarian) October 21, 2009 at 6:05 am

Oh sweet pea, I’m sorry about your rotTen day and getting sick again–but your pissed off face is just frickin adorable! Get some rest and more chicken soup!! xoxo

Andrea@WellnessNotes October 21, 2009 at 6:13 am

I’m so sorry that you are sick. Take good care of yourself!

I am not a big fan of pulp… But enjoy your pulpy glass of OJ; hope it’ll help you get better soon… :)

balancejoyanddelicias October 21, 2009 at 6:15 am

oh so sorry to hear that you’re sick sweetie! that really sucks!!!! :( But I’m so glad to know that you’re taking care of yourself (not working out just because). I hope you get better soon!!!! I know how bad mood we get when we are sick.

I’m a totally a pulp person!!! it just makes me feel/think/taste more like real food.

Chai October 21, 2009 at 6:23 am

MAXIMUM PULP!

Feel better :-/

Paige @ Running Around Normal October 21, 2009 at 6:24 am

Ack! Sorry you’re feeling sickly. Rest up and take care of yourself, girl! My rule is, if it’s the neck and above, I can continue to workout at a moderate intensity, but if it’s below the neck, I take a rest day or two – or at least take it easy.

No worries about not making it to the post office! Take care of yourself, girl! :)

LOL that you don’t like the word blog – I love it. Certain words creep me out, too. Like…moist..*shudders.*

I have health insurance through my husband. We both work at the same place, but his is better than mine.

Sarah W. October 21, 2009 at 6:41 am

My company doesn’t currently offer it but I am on my husband’s plan so its OK. If not, we’d probably just pay for outside insurance through Blue Cross – they offer affordable outside plans – what outside insurance company do you use???

It is SO important to have health insurance yet soooooooooo many people our age don’t have it! I always need it due to my asthma/allergy issues and getting sick turns into respiratory issues – scary.

I was given a lssson in health insurance though – my former coworker was a mom and has 2 sons. At the time her one son was like 21 or so and worked full time as a server and had NO health insurance. He was disgnosed with testicular cancer, had to have biopsys, removal, etc. He racked up like $30,000 in medical bills – they managed to find some companies that would help them pay down the debt but omg if you rack up that much debt you can say goodbye to any of your assets, your savings, your 401k – they WILL take it from you! tell Marshall!

there was also a Dr. Oz show recently re: a free clinic they offered in Houston and featured certain ppl on the show. one 42 year old man had a TUMOR on his LIP which obvi made it hard to get a job but it was lip cancer from smoking and he didnt have insurance or money to fix it. SCARY. if it had been caught early he wouldnt have to lose his entire chin/lip and get a skin graft from his arm to try to create a lip again – yuck

Leanne October 21, 2009 at 7:04 am

Do you like chobani better than Fage or Oikos?

april October 21, 2009 at 7:24 am

Aww I’m sorry your sick! Rest up and drink plenty of fluids! :D

I have health insurance but since I’m 18 it’s still under my parents so I don’t have to pay for it! the benefits of living at home I guess!

julie October 21, 2009 at 7:29 am

Awww being sick is the WORST feeling in the world. You better feel better asap. I’ve been chugging emergen-c extra vit c boost like it’s my j o b every morning.

I used to not have health insurance and was paying 300 bucks a month for it (holy crap yes that was the cheapest option) but now that I’m back to school full time I’m back on the rentals (PRAISE THE LORD)

I’m SO glad to hear you call marsh marshmellow haha it gives me a great sigh of relief. If you watch HIMYM you would be his “lilypad” if you don’t well then you should. haha

FEEL BETTERRRRRRRRRR

Holly October 21, 2009 at 7:44 am

janetha b,

no worries my love it often takes some time,
to get better after being sick and making up rhymes.
just move on ahead one day after day,
packing up stuff, moving and finding your way.
sunshine and rainbows can be overrated,
grumpiness is necessary and sometimes fated.
today is a new day lots of love to you,
brighten up and smile – rock those meals and moves!

LOVE YOU
xxx holly

p.s. my health insurance is bomb through work (but i used to pay hella lots, so i am uber-thankful) and NO PULP. never ANY pulp.

allisonleigh October 21, 2009 at 7:54 am

You are so fab! Thanks for the comments on my post and YES! you def. answered my question!
I read the story on your mom (creeper much?) and it was awesome. I love moms!
Thanks for all your help lady!!

Graze With Me October 21, 2009 at 8:10 am

Bummer on the sickness! I think I’ve been fighting something off too lately. Keep your fingers crossed that we both move past it – we’re too healthy for this shiz right???

Black beans and hummus sounds pretty good actually – simple and delicious.

1) I do have insurance thru my employer but it’s the catastrophic plan so basically it covers nothing but HUGE life changing injuries. Need to get on my husband’s insurance soon…

2) No pulp. Ick. It’s like drinking hairy juice……

Yum Yucky October 21, 2009 at 8:23 am

1. Those oats look dang good

2. I “heart” pomegrante Chobani

3. I like that you write with zero caps

4. Sorry you got the sick, pissed off face

Therese October 21, 2009 at 8:37 am

Awww girl I’m so sorry you are sick. Why is it that it always happens at the worst possible time ever!! Pound some Airbourne. I mean 3 times a day for like 3 days. It normally clears up whatever I have coming on…

I totally feel you on the not working out thing. When I busted up my knee a couple months ago it was such a struggle to not work out, but to be honest I came back to the gym refreshed and ready to hit it hard. Give you body some rest! You have definitely earned it!

jocelyneatsfresh October 21, 2009 at 8:47 am

hey girl..hope you are feeling better soon. IT sucks to be sick..I know. Despite getting my flu shot every year – I work with lots of kids each week so I basically get sick like once a month. How narsty is that lol…

It also sucks that you had to come back to soggy oats :(:( How depressing. But the rest of your meals for the day look yummy. Especially the wolfgang soup. Yum yum

Have a great week!

leianna October 21, 2009 at 9:28 am

Hope you feel better soon, hate that sicky feeling!
I had free health insurance at my last job and now my new job makes me pay $65 a month, not too bad, but still sucks, I absolutely need it though having thyroid problems!
My husband though hasn’t had insurance for 2 years and it scares me!
I like a little pulp, perfect for curing some sickness:)

dailygoods October 21, 2009 at 9:32 am

get better soon pretty girl!!!

lowandbhold October 21, 2009 at 10:02 am

Sorry you’re not feeling so well :( And extra sorry for you having to throw out your oats. Boo to that.

Thanks for the link love though :) Definitely rest that body of yours up. It will thank you!

1. Yes, my employer does offer it thank goodness. I have a friend who doesn’t have it and I worry about her.
2. I LOVE me some pulp! I used to work at Jamba Juice and I made fresh squeezed pulpy OJ all the time. Loved it and miss it so.

Lindsay October 21, 2009 at 10:03 am

I hope you feel better soon! I’ve been trying to ditch a cough for about three weeks now! I hope it goes away soon! I really hope yours doesn’t last this long cause it sucks!

I have heath insurance through my job. I pay a small amount but it’s nothing compared to if I had to pay for it myself. We do pay for Morgans though, the whole not having a full time job thing was an insurance problem! It’s totally worth every penny though!

I’m a no pulp person. It grosses me out!

Feel better!

inmytummy October 21, 2009 at 10:24 am

I hope you feel better.

Yes, my company provides health insurance. They pay for it all which is nice.

I don’t like orange juice. Weird, huh?

ksgoodeats October 21, 2009 at 10:27 am

FEEL BETTER, MY DEAR!!! Down all the fluids you can! Sorry you’re illin’ it but at least you look cute!? That’s a plus!

That wrap looks amazingly delicious! I love it!!

I’m still on my parents health insurance for a few more years, thank goodness!

I’m not a juice person AT ALL. It’s way to thick for me and makes me all phlegm-y :) I know you wanted all the details!

Allison (Eat Clean Live Green) October 21, 2009 at 10:33 am

I hope you feel better soon!

1. do you have health insurance? does your employer/spouse’s employer offer it?well in Canada all the basics are covered. but my husband has extended health insurance through work too.

2. are you a no pulp, some pulp or lots of pulp type of person? eww pulp is gross. Sorry J!

Jenny October 21, 2009 at 10:41 am

aw J-bear! so sorry to hear your feeling sickly :) no bueno! tell you immune system to stop being such a dragola… k?

as far as health insurance I am embarrassed to admit that I have no idea how any of that shizz works out. Daddy is in control of my finances… I better enjoy it while it lasts!

I actually <3 pulp! it reminds me of egg drop soup from chinese restaurants (weird comparison? perhaps..)

love you tons and tons beautiful!

Jenny October 21, 2009 at 10:45 am

p.s. check yo’ email ya heardddddddd?! :) <3

keri410 October 21, 2009 at 11:33 am

Hey Janetha! I wanted to pop in and introduce myself… a fellow Utahan… well semi. I’ve been going to school out here for the past four years, so I consider UT to be one of my homes. Originally, I’m from Portland. BUT, I’m lovin your blog… definitely entered your 6-month giveaway, and I’m looking forward to reading a lot more!

Wanna know what’s ironic? I got the bug too! It must be makin’ it’s way around the valley! Hopefully we’ll both be whole and well in no time! :)

Pulp? Now, yes… when I was a kid I abhorred the stuff!

Health insurance? Yes… still on daddy’s plan. gotta love it!

Good luck with everything gorgeous!

Tiffany S. October 21, 2009 at 12:19 pm

Soooo sorry you’re sick. I have the headache and Chris has the cold so between us we have what you’re having.

I’m getting a bang trim/haircut tonight – thank goodness! But yours actually look good…for a sick person. :)

That black bean hummus creation looks awful, but I’m going to try it and I bet it’s gonna be my new favorite thing. I seem to be loving the ugly foods lately!

I have health insurance through work but pay for some of it out of my paycheck. It’s Regence, and it’s been pretty good. Chris works for a big awesome company, and they totally cover insurance but the coverage is not as good as mine, so there you go. When we were on Cobra and unemployed, it was $1000/month. We got off of that pronto!

So funny you ask about pulp, I had to get Chris oj for his cold, and I had NO idea about his pulp preferences. We’ve been together ten years, and I just stood in front of the case baffled. I got “some” pulp as a compromise (turns out he’s ok with pulp – now I know). I like some or no pulp myself but I never really drink oj.

Take good care of yourself. The gym will still be there when you’re better!

Lyss October 21, 2009 at 12:52 pm

i have to agree w/ the first commenter – for someone “sick” you have a beautiful glow about you! :)

hummus and ANYTHING in a wrap is good in my book. also, i HATE when people interrupt me while i’m eating – esp. if it means wasting food. NOOOOT okay.

Rose October 21, 2009 at 1:07 pm

Oh, dear. Hope you feel better!

HealthySDLiving October 21, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Awww I’m sorry you’re sick! I know how you feel with the tonsils, everytime I get sick they keep telling me…next time we’re taking them out, next time, next time….still there!

I LOVE pulp in my OJ–the more the better!

Whit October 21, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Sorry you are sicky… :(

Feel better soon, love! If it makes you feel better, I have healthy insurance and like pulpy and non pulpy OJ!

littlemissminny October 21, 2009 at 1:45 pm

I understand how you feel. I am sick a bit too, well, at least have been. And I only did power yoga. So I do feel bad about not working out :( I hope you get better soon. Definitely go to the doctor, maybe you’ll get some prescription that will make you feel better.
