rhyme time.

by Janetha on October 8, 2009

in meals,moves

by the time you guys read this it’ll probably be friday

so jump up and down.. shout “hip, hip, hooooray!”

but as i type this it is still thursday night.

i should be cleaning my room—it’s a sight!

but as we all know, procrastination’s my game

and blogging’s more fun, you know you’d say the same.

national poetry day is today, haven’t you heard?

i am well aware thanks to this and this bird.

this morning my appetite just didn’t exist

it wasn’t until past 10 AM when hunger hit me with its fist!

the SLC is so cold today, it’s time to break out the coats

and warm things up with a glorious bowl of oats :)

meals 778

full of protein powder, cinnamon and of course mighty maple,

a peanutty item that has become my breakfast staple!

meals 779

soon i will post a how-to on the method to making them creamy

there are a few tricks on how i make them taste dreamy!

i worked the day away, task after task (after task),

my tummy’s back to normal, in case you wanted to ask.

when 1 PM rolled around i was more than ready to eat

i was also ready for a nap, maaaan i was beat!

leftovers were on the menu.. it was total comfort food:

green beans, meatloaf and or course ketchup (leaving it out would be rude)

meals 782

sure, it looked proper when i snapped this pic

meals 781

but then i mixed it all up and gave it a kick  (hot sauce :P)

meals 784

is it just me that likes eating her food in a mess,

or are others like this too?  come on, just confess!

when five o’clock came i was more than ready to leave

staying at work late is a mega pet peeve.

i managed to peace out at exactly five-oh-two

but had no time to squeeze a workout in, this i sadly knew.

dinner plans were at six o’clock on the dot

we were meeting marshall’s fam to dine at this spot:

meals 786

i have eaten here often, as you just might recall,

from hummus to tzatziki, this place has it all.

meals 785

we sat near the door and i was ridiculously cold

lentil soup warms you up, or so i was told

meals 787

the lentils were yummy but i did not eat that bread

the pita triangles are another story (i could eat those ‘til i’m dead)

meals 788

i got my usual greek salad, chicken, dressing on the side

my love for greek food is something i can’t hide

meals 789

marshall had a trifecta of glorious stuffed veggies

when we get our next dog his name will be reggie (true story)

meals 792

stuffed zucchini, stuffed pepper and the best: stuffed tomato

and you can bet your sweet ass that he cleaned his plate-o!

after this dinner it was nearly eight at night

a workout was in order for me, it just felt right.

i changed my clothes and then ventured to gold’s

even though my bed sounded better..geez i am old!

my fifty minute lower body session was great

i can’t rhyme the details.. please, don’t hate!

and now i am home, cuddling with the dogs…

penelope jane is snoring and sounds like a hog.

i won’t be eating more since i am still full

so the eats in this post have turned out a little dull.

i will be back tomorrow with a fun flashback post

it is the feature on my blog that i think i love most!

but this poetry thing is not my best feature

blame my poor skills on my high school english teacher.

i am all out of photos, i am all out of rhymes

but i hope reading this was at least a little bit of a good time!

1. when you wake up without an appetite do you eat anyway or wait until you get hungry? today i waited. i always worry about eating breakfast too late, but i also am trying harder to listen to my body these days.. and my body said “no, don’t eat yet!” so i waited.

2. do you eat each food on your plate separate or do you like to mix them all together? i guess it depends on what the meal is, but i generally like to mix things up! i have a friend who has to eat ALL of one thing.. and then ALL of another.. we would all be enjoying the main part of the dish, like chicken or something, and she would say, “oh i can’t wait to finish my potatoes so i can taste the chicken!” haha.. i could never eat like that! what about you?

xo. janetha b.

p.s. hope you liked the poem. it was a tad nerdy, but that is how i roll ;)

THANK GOD for National Poetry Day–it brought out so much bloggin rhyme skill! I LOVED THIS!

And, I’ve been trying to do the same by waiting til I’m hungry to eat in the a.m. It’s kinda hard because I’ve usually conjured up what I want to make!

I think I usually eat my foods separately–mostly bc I always have a favorite and it feels SO GOOD to save it for last ;)

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) October 8, 2009 at 11:42 pm

Girl you missed your calling, go get a job working for Hallmark writing rhyming cards :)

I never eat til I am hungry. What would the point be? To eat food I am not ready to eat that my body doesnt want just b/c the clock arbitrarily says it’s 8am or 12pm or 6pm or whatever? No, I eat when hungry independent of the clock but have the luxury of having access to food when I need it cuz I’m at home….if I was in an office it would be way diff and Id have to choke stuff down Im sure.

I have some things dehydrating for you right as we speak and my house smells of vanilla and coconut…..

J @ Whole Body Love October 8, 2009 at 11:45 pm

1. I wait until I’m hungry.
2. I mix it up and I love it!

Tay October 8, 2009 at 11:45 pm

how wrong you are…I’m reading this on Thursday!! ;-) Great poem master poet Meals & Moves!
On days when I have nothing to do, I usually wait a bit to eat if I’m not hungry. But on days I work/have class, I always eat before I leave.

mayapamela October 9, 2009 at 12:23 am

Loved your rhyming skills! I am also reading this on Thursday…because it is 4 hours earlier in Hawaii!

It depends. I eat anyway if I’m going somewhere and can’t eat there, but I wait if I’m just chilling at home. Of course this is almost a pointless question, because I am always hungry when I wake up!

burpexcuzme October 9, 2009 at 2:11 am

HAHA! WOW girl! I’m impressed how you got everything to rhyme like that! Wonder how long this took you? I’m so bad in these kind of stuff!

And that stuffed zucchini, stuffed pepper and stuffed tomato look freaking amazing!

I don’t like to eat the moment I get up. I wake up real early just so I don’t have to do that.

and as for eating separately or mixing…that really depends on the food. If it’s kabocha, I like it separate. If it’s cheese or egg in there, I like it mixed. :-)

Lara (Thinspired) October 9, 2009 at 3:23 am

Love this :) Any chance of getting your meatloaf recipe? Did I miss that on an earlier post? It looks so good. And yes, ketchup is MANDATORY!

I like to mix most things. I’m really weird with salad dressings especially. I can definitely do two salad dressings at once. That sounds dirty. You get it.

balancejoyanddelicias October 9, 2009 at 5:15 am

i used to eat breakfast first thing in the morning before I start working because i think i need to get my metabolism moving and forget aabout that I still have to have breakfast. bad idea i think, because our body is smart and knows when we need food better than our mind. So, now I probably have some snack when I wake up and wait until I get hungry to eat a proper breakfast which lead to a late lunch.
I like to eat one by one instead of mixing it when it comes to a plate of different food, not salad. I don’t know,…. another neurotic thing?

April October 9, 2009 at 5:50 am

I’m always hungry after getting off the treadmill so I eat. If I wasn’t hungry I would eat anyway. I do that all the time. Gotta get those 6 meals in ;)

I’m with you, it depends on what foods i’m eating. My hubs mixes EVERYTHING up when he gets it. Last night I mixed my salad, asparagus and turkey burger together and put ketchup and mustard on it HA!

Emily (The Experimentarian) October 9, 2009 at 6:00 am

Oh my little Janetha B., you are so talented! I’m dying to try Aristos–I had Greek yesterday, too, but my salad was major blah. Dolomathes were kickin though! Can’t wait to see you on Saturdaaaaaay! P.S. directions on the invite are kind of sketchy–I would mapquest it. xoxo

Haleigh October 9, 2009 at 6:11 am

What a cute little poem :) Mighty Maple is one of my favorites but I can’t find it anywhere!!

runningaroundnormal October 9, 2009 at 6:13 am

Love your mad rhyming skillz! haha

I totally wait until I’m hungry – unless I’m going to be working out first thing in the morning, then I’ll have a banana or date.

I typically like to eat everything on my plate separately, but it depends on what it is!

Julienne October 9, 2009 at 6:26 am

I eat when I wake up because I am ALWAYS starving!

I’m one of those weird people that only eats one thing at a time, and I don’t even like when different types of food are touching on my plate! I always save my favourite thing for the end, and by then the boy is always done his dinner and wants to pick at what I have left, hell no! Back off fool, especially if it’s cauliflower!

brandi October 9, 2009 at 6:48 am

Ha, I love this :)

1. I’m always hungry when I eat, but I normally eat about 1.5 hours after I wake up. I get up, shower, watch the news / read with some water, dry my hair, get dressed, and then eat right before I leave the house.

2. Sometimes I mix, sometimes I don’t :) It just depends on the foods!

Lizzy October 9, 2009 at 7:18 am

you are a rhymeing goddesss! i loved this, i wish i had as much skill as you! hehehe

-When i wake up in the morning normally i’m not that hungry, but some days i’m starving. but i usually like to wait till i want food, cause most of the time i drink coffee before eating anyway, and fills me up some

-I’m a total mixer. i love combining foods and making new concoctions. my favorite mix when i was little, was mashed potatoes and corn! YUMMM

Julz October 9, 2009 at 7:30 am

Okay. So I don’t know if I have ever commented before, but if I haven’t, then here we go!

I ABSOLUTELY LUHUUUVVV YOUR BLOGGY! So presh and ridiculously hilar. Like I love it. I have been reading for quite some time, too, so I am not sure why I haven’t commented! Rude!

Anyway, just wanted to say HI! xoxo :D

Steph October 9, 2009 at 7:41 am

I loved your poem…it was great!! I love Reggie for a dog’s name :)

1. When I’m going to work I’ll eat whether I’m hungry or not. I work at Starbucks and I’m usually running around like crazy for the first 4 hours and if I waited to eat I would be one cranky girl!

2. Most of my meals are eaten out of bowls and most of them are salads. I pile everything on top and mix it all together. I love eating this way!

Andrea@WellnessNotes October 9, 2009 at 7:56 am

Love this rhyming post! :)

1. I usually try to listen to my body and eat when I’m hungry. However, I usually make myself eat something before teaching my first class at 7:00 a.m. as I know I won’t have a chance to eat anything for many hours. And getting too hungry just has caused too many problems in the past…
2. I used to drive my mom crazy by mixing everything up, covering it with ketchup, mixing it some more. Often the result was anything but pretty… Recently I have started to enjoy foods separately more…

april October 9, 2009 at 8:25 am

I love the poem!!

I normally eat when I first wake up. Sometimes I wonder if I should be doing that but whatever! It’s the only meal a day I don’t feel guilty about eating just ’cause :)

And I’m so glad you found my new blog too! I thought you hated me or something ;) J/k!

Holly October 9, 2009 at 8:31 am

love your thuggin’ mcruggin fuggin’ rhymes girl! i got so excited when low said it was national poetry day – you have NO idea!

ummm i am IMMEDIATELY hungry when i get up in the morning. that’s probably because i usually eat dinner at 5:30pm like a grandma. i am actually not too much of a mixer (besides yog messes), sometimes i like to pick and choose my bites!

happy friddddayyyyyyyyy!

inmytummy October 9, 2009 at 8:40 am

I am always hungry when I awake
so I scrumptious breakfast, I immediately make.

Happy National Poetry Day. That was my contribution.

Lindsay October 9, 2009 at 8:56 am

Love this post!

That salad looks fantastic1 I could totally eat pita triangles all day long!

If I’m not hungry when I wake up I usually wait a little while to eat. If I don’t get hungry after an hour or so I usually eat something small. When I don’t eat anything at all in the morning I end up much more hungry later on.

It totally depends on what I’m eating. Most of the time I don’t like to mix my food but once in a while I like it.

Devan G Newman October 9, 2009 at 9:27 am

i love greek food :D

1. i always wait until im hungry. generally, i wake up, blog, drink coffee.. then eat!

2. i mix all my food! i love the randmon yummy bites I get!

Therese October 9, 2009 at 10:01 am

1) I usually eat just because, well, I like food and I like to eat. Maybe that’s why I suck at the intuitive eating thing.

2)I HATE MIXING FOOD. Like the meatloaf and green beans would have been eating totally sepearate, a bite of each equally. HEY there’s my weird quirk for ya!

ps Your talents never cease to amaze me. You should be a rapper.

leianna October 9, 2009 at 10:06 am

I can’t wait to see how you make your creamy oats, they look so good!
I wish I could find that Mighty Maple somewhere around here, it looks dreamy!

elise October 9, 2009 at 10:29 am

your rap career is waiting,
i wish we were dating,

i want that hummus now,
more than a carnivore wants cow.

this weather is chilly and brrr,
oats are better than fur,

your rhymes are much better,
and you’re quite the trend setter.

lowandbhold October 9, 2009 at 10:31 am

So glad you poemed it up! I loved it! Your Greek food looks divine!

1. I do the same thing every week day. Wake up, get ready, make coffee and smoothie, drive to work, then drink coffee and smoothie. I don’t know that I ever stop to consider whether I’m hungry yet or not… Interesting.
2. I’m not usually a mixer, unless the foods are just begging to be mixed, like eggs and hashbrowns or mashed potatoes and peas :)

HealthySDLiving October 9, 2009 at 10:43 am

haha LOVE it! And that meatloaf looks yummy!

Hmm I always eat when I wake up whether I’m hungry or not–but I’m usually alwayssss hungry!

Graze With Me October 9, 2009 at 10:48 am

I loved the poem, very original and fun to read! Yum for lentil soup, it’s just so comforting. Good for you for still getting a workout in too!

1) I’m really strict about breakfast before I go to work, I have to eat at 6 am or else my whole day is screwed up. But I do wait for hunger for all my other meals. On the weekends I’m not strict at all about breakfast – I give myself a chance to really get hungry so I enjoy my food more.

2) I used to be one of those who couldn’t ever have my foods touch. Not really anymore. It still depends on what it is though – I get pissed if I have to put my desserts on the same plate as my dinner. Makes me mad if my Thanksgiving pie touches my turkey or potatoes. However, I like to eat a bite of each thing on my plate to keep my taste buds guessing.

Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) October 9, 2009 at 11:17 am

Love the rhyme, even if it was geeky ;)

Usually I wait to eat, unless I have some place I need to be. But usually I am hungry so it’s not a problem!

I like to mix my foods! I feel as though if they’re on a plate together the flavors are meant to be melded in your mouth. Yum =)

ksgoodeats October 9, 2009 at 11:47 am

Oh that Greek meal – killed me! It looks so good!! One time I went out to some rando hole in the wall diner and this guy mixed his eggs, gravy, and bacon together, like SWIRLED. It looked like vom!

1. 99% of the time I wake up ready for breakfast. The 1% I eat regardless.
2. I don’t mix my food together!! I like to keep it separate!

Angharad (Eating for England) October 9, 2009 at 11:51 am

Reggie is an excellent name for a pup :)
That greek place looks so bloody good – I love big plates of love like that – perfect!

1) I almost always wake up really really hungry and always eat before leaving the house (unless I’m going out for brekkie!) otherwise I will most likely get the shakes and not be pleasant to hang out with
2) I love mixing things up into a gooey mess. a lot. Although more than that I love making the perfect forkful of food. I hook up a little of everything onto one forkful and it is the best!

3) I just emailed you!! Love you xxx

tessa October 9, 2009 at 12:24 pm

your such a gangsta! i know it was a poem, but i totally envisioned you rapping it.

1. i usually wait, i always eat late so i’m never hungry when i first wake up.
2. usually i’m a separate kind of gal, that way if takes longer to eat!

peaceloverunning October 9, 2009 at 1:53 pm

i love how you got everything to rhyme! all your eats look so delicious!

1. i usually wait until im hungry. but that doesn’t last too long
2. im a mix it all together type of girl. it tastes 10x better that way :]

Katey October 9, 2009 at 1:54 pm

greek food is my favorite!!!!!!!

Ildie October 9, 2009 at 2:31 pm

HA. I loved your rhyming skills. :)

1. I try to wait until I’m hungry which is why I have breakfast at work instead of at home. This tends to bite me in the ___ on Saturdays though because more often then not, I work out on a full tummy. NOT GOOD!

2. I like to mix my food and flavors. You get the best of all worlds at the same time. My BF on the other hand is also a “one item at a time, can’t touch on the plate” sort of eaters. I should get him one of those plastic kid plates with the separated sections. OH, GREAT CHRISTMAS IDEA. HAHAHA!

julie October 9, 2009 at 3:06 pm

greek food is the cheese
your rhymes they do please

your love for cold weather gives me the chills
maybe someday we can meet halfway in the hills

party it up because its national poetry day
your blog makes me smile in the most spectacular way

i suck at rhyming and i’m no run dmc
but i think of you everytime i eat cottage chee

Susan October 9, 2009 at 3:44 pm

You are a rhymin’ machiiiine!! I love it! :D I could eat pita tell I’m dead too. And Greek food :)

1. I don’t know. It’s never happened!!

2. I like to take turns picking at each item. Sometimes I’ll get a bite of each on my fork. My mom mixes everything together on her plate. Even things like salad and mashed potatoes!

Lynn (The Actors Diet) October 9, 2009 at 4:04 pm

you’re quite the poet, ms janetha!

i wait until i’m hungry, usually, and, i mix all my foods together into a big old mess.

Emily (Healthy Fit Mama) October 9, 2009 at 5:28 pm

Love the poem! ;-)

1) I usually eat anyway to avoid being ravenous later.

2) I always eat my foods separately. I like to enjoy the taste of everything individually.

Allie (Live Laugh Eat) October 9, 2009 at 7:02 pm

You’re adorable! I always wait (and then suffer the days I have class forever). I do not like to eat if I am not hungry. I feel like it conditions me to eat when I’m not hungry but have a full stomach you know?

I like to mix things together–the more flavors the better!!

broccolihut October 9, 2009 at 9:25 pm

1. Usually wait til I am hungry, but by the time I finish my workout I am always starving!
2. I eat my food separately, probably as a result of watching my dad mix his spaghetti and salad for the past 21 years of my life.

Erica October 10, 2009 at 10:00 am

owwwwww that looks like one jammin bread bowl. And the concert looks like an absolute blast too chicky!

Jenny October 11, 2009 at 4:25 pm

quick question – how much would I have to pay you to rap this rhyme on a vlog?! ’cause I’m pretty sure i’d throw down a couple benjamins to see it.

jenngirl October 11, 2009 at 6:46 pm

Love the poem! I’m jealous of your skills.

1. I eat breakfast anyways, and if I have time to wait around I do…but most school mornings I just go ahead and do it because I know I need it! AND it’s my favorite meal of the day :)

2. depends on the food for me too…like I like to dip my sandwich in the hummus that i use for a side at lunch…and I love putting pieces of boca burger in my salad sometimes…nothing too crazy

mom October 11, 2009 at 8:06 pm

I LOVED the poem!! I try to listen to my body, i don’t usually wake up very hungry. I LOVE to take bites of my meal together. In SC I had arctic char and these hummy potatoes and green beans, yum a little of each! xoxoxo
