happy wednesday everyone! despite this week being extra stressful, it is actually zipping right by.  can’t complain about that.

did you all have a chance to enter my xagave giveaway? if not.. hop to it!

ok.. so, now i really don’t feel too bad about my quirky habits.  all of your answers regarding what makes you neurotic were outstanding.  i was laughing every time i read a new one.  we bloggers could start a website of our own. 

i thought i would copy and paste a few for your enjoyment :)

ok! this is going to be a quickie because we are going to go see lynn’s movie, white on rice! so excited! so, onto the meals & moves.


i took a cue from the fabulous averie and whipped up a batch of her overnight oats she posted here.

meal 1: overnight PB & banana vanilla chia protein oats @ 8:30 AM

i added the protein powder to her original recipe, but other than that i followed it to a T.  these were phenomenal! i heated them up, since it was a cold morning here, but they also would have been great cold.  when heating them up, the banana became all caramelized and melted perfectly into the oats. i loved the texture that the chia seeds took on from soaking in the almond milk overnight.

the only thing i will be doing different next time is omitting the vanilla stevia.  i used the nunaturals vanilla stevia that the company kindly sent me to review.

it wasn’t that the stevia had a bad taste.  i am actually really impressed that there is NO funky aftertaste from the stevia!  that is a hard task to accomplish.  but the fact of the matter is, i just don’t like sweeteners.  the oats were already nice and sweet from the banana and they didn’t need the stevia. too sweet for me. but i really loved the chia seeds in the oats! i have never had them in oats before and now i think it will be a staple :) thanks averie!!

well.. bad news. about an hour and a half later i started to have really sharp pains in my stomach.  they were horrible.  i chugged the water and hoped they would go away.  i wasn’t sure what was going on.  there were moments that i was doubled over in pain from these weird cramps.

i tried to shrug them off because i was really hungry.

meal 2: same wrap as yesterday @ 1:00 PM

this was just too good to not repeat. sun dried tomato hummus, cottage cheese, cucumbers, mushrooms and a flat out.

after lunch the cramps were still really bad.. and sorry if this is TMI but i also was feeling super bloated. not cool. then it hit me. i knew exactly why i was feeling this way. the stevia!

it had to be the stevia.  splenda used to have the same effect on me.  it would give me stomach cramps and really bad gas. the pains i have been having today are identical to those i would get from splenda. that HAS to be it.. since everything else i ate today was as per usual!

i really don’t have any food intolerances that i know of.  i am not allergic to anything and nothing i eat gives me grief.  except this.  i can only imagine what it is like to be lactose intolerant or something like that! no thanks.

so thennn i finally got home from work and i was still hurting. i couldn’t believe how much pain i was in. i did managed to eat a little snack though because i knew i needed it.

well, since i took yesterday off from the gym i HAD to go today.. but i was not feeling it at all. my stomach was (and still is) in knots. but i sucked it up.

i won’t even post my HR stats because i had a HR monitor intruder tonight just like julie did! so irritating. but i did max at 183 which was pretty surprising considering the slower speeds.. i obviously was still working hard. and in pain.

so then i came home.. whipped up some dinner..

      I think I have that intolerance too, sugar, sweetners, yuck in the stomach!

      Mmmm the overnight oats look so delicious!! And I’m a huge fan of stuffing things [twss] but I think I have to agree.. stuffed mushrooms are amazing!! I don’t like peppers actually…

      Ugh! Sorry to hear you don’t feel well! I’m so glad I don’t have any food intolerances. Stevia isn’t such a bad one anyway, especially as you are already used to eating things non sweetened and enjoy it naturally sweet with banana and such!

      I could eat mouse-traps, daggers and a chainsaw and my stomach would be none the wiser. Lucky I guess!

      I have only ever stuffed a pepp and it was yum!

      Hope you feel better- you are lucky that you don’t like things sweet- I wish I were in that camp!

      I was extremely allergic to shrimp when I was younger. I didn’t swell like some people do. My body just wouldn’t keep them down. I will spare you the details ;) I’ve heard that allergies change every few years. But, the result of previous shrimp experiences still keeps me from testing the waters again.

      Yikes! I love stevia! Just put in a batch of overnight oats into the fridge! I used to be lactose intolerant for a couple years in middle/high school but it went away on it’s own. Since then, I stopped drinking milk straight though.

      Thanks for the shout outs my dear friend, glad you followed the recipe…I never follow anyone’s recipe, even my own. I love my blog cuz I write it down and can go back and see what I did cuz I cant remember from one day to the next, I am such a tweaker it’s nuts.

      But I feel somehow horribly responsible for your stomach cramps. I know I didnt force you to use the stevia but ya know, I feel reallllllllly bad.

      Girl I have so many food intolerances….gluten, dairy, soy, egg, shellfish, hell I cannot even eat chicken. So becoming a raw vegan was easy. It took me til I was 30 to really figure it all out. Trial and error, food allergy testing is horribly unscientific and inaccurate and the only way to find out is do what you just did…process of elimination, trial and error, and food challeging. i.e. you know you had a reaction to x sweetener and you challenge it with either x sweeterer again. Thus, yep, you’re intolerant. Don’t try it any more, now you know.

      Probiotics have healed my gut to a great degree so I can cheat a little with soy or trace dairy but not gluten or eggs or shellfish. Dear lord, I could stop breathing with shellfish. Anyway, I could write a book on food intolerances, email me with specific questions.

      p.s. I’ll take that extra Nu Nat vanilla off your hands, that stuff is my crack :)

      Whoooah!! Honey, I am sorry about the stomach pains! They are the worst! I had some last week and I realized it was probably because I was chewing, like, four pieces of tropical trident in one class period. Duh.

      Food intolerances: dairy (mostly milk) and high amounts of aspartame. Gross!

      Hahahah fave food to stuff? I wanted to say my face, but technically, I am not a food. Although sometimes I’d like to be. I like to stuff pita bread!! Mmm. Is that an awful answer? Well, it’s the truth.

      Gahhhh I’ll miss you this weekend. LOVE YOU!

      :( I think a lot of people have problems with artificial sweeteners but I was hoping stevia would be ‘safer’… Your oats look awesome! Melty banana = delish.

      1. do you have any food intolerances? cinnamon stuff- fresh cinnamon I can do, but the artificial flavouring in gum, tic-tacs, etc make my mouth blister! Also sorbitol.

      Ooo No! Sorry to hear about the tummy issues with the Stevia. I use to have crazy problems with IBS and I discovered that many foods gave me a world of trouble. Thankfully now, I know what these “trigger” foods are and I can stay far far away. Having any kind of tummy trouble is NEVER fun though. :( Hope you feel better soon.

      I think my favorite food to stuff would be the potatoe. I love stuffing my sweet potatoes with just about anything you can think of.
      Although, now you have me craving some stuffed peppers. Looks good lady! :)

      I think I’m intolerant to anything in big amount. I know, that’s not called as intolerance but over eating.
      I like to stuff green peppers. because they’re big!

      I have IBS, so I feel your tummy pain…not cool! At least you know what to avoid next time (and at least you weren’t still at the lake!)

      I can’t do anything caffeine/coffee related. I will seriously be in major pain for at least 12 hours. It’s ridiculous. Other than that, peanuts (not almonds or other ones, thank goodness) and a certain brand of soy milk (but not tofu?) totally cramp and bloat me up. Oy vey…

      Although I’m not super creative, I LOVE stuffed mushrooms, pitas and calzones (does that count?) I would like to try other “stuffed” things (he he), but the opportunity has yet to present itself! (As in, no one is making these things for me.)

      Sorry to hear about the pain, at least you figured it out! Stevia is pretty easy to avoid.

      I am unfortunately gluten intolerant, but I don’t mind it.

      I love to stuff tomatoes with tuna salad!

      I can’t tolerate any artificial sweeteners. I have a heart condition and if I have any artificial sweeteners I can feel my heartbeat change – scary stuff!

      I love mushrooms stuffed with crab meat, and govered in garlic and cheese. Haha, basic food porn for those of us trying to eat healthy!

      1) Dairy doesn’t really agree with me. I never realized the effect it had on my tummy until I stopped having it!

      The only food I’ve ever stuffed is peppers…they were pretty good in place of carbs! Oh, I did a zuccini once, but it didn’t work out well enough for me to recommend it!

      P.S. I’ve heard a lot of people being intolerant to Stevia. Aparantly it’s more common than you’d think. I haven’t tried it yet but I’m glad you have found an alternative :)

      You’re sure it was stevia and not chia seeds? I can’t remember if I’ve seen you eat them before, but I’m sure you know your tummy better than I.

      Good, good questions, i like em.

      1) I’m a strange one as I cannot tolerate chicken, massive amounts of cinnamon (like a tablespoon in a day is too much), large amounts of tomato products (too acidic) or ANYTHING fried. Seriously, I like of like the fact that I can’t eat fried/greasy foods – it helps keep temptation in check sometimes.

      2) I LOVE to stuff dates with almond butter! Crunchy Barney Butter is the best… :)

      ohhhh way to listen to your body! i used to get ahem, constipated, ahem once i started drinking soymilk. i chalked it up to my body being messed up from thailand but once i took out soymilk, it vanished! so yes, no more soymilk for me!

      i love to stuff things in my mouth. TWSS? but more realistically, pitas are one of my fave things to stuff. so dayum good.

      I’m not intolerant to any foods but for some reason green tea makes me nauseous. Not always, so sometimes I’ll risk it and have a cup because I know it’s good for you and I like it. Then I’ll get sick (real sick) out of the blue and not have it again for a month or two. So weird!

      I like stuffed peppers the best. I make mine with brown rice, Morning Star Farms ground, onions, chick peas, salt, pepper, cayenne, oregano and garlic powder. I also add a little egg white to the mix to keep it moist and held together. Simple, nearly calorie free and DELICIOUS! I top it with sweet tomato soup.

      I don’t know if you remember but that same thing happened to me last week! I still did my HIIT but it was painful…I actually think mine was caused by some amazing grass bars I ate. Some people say their products “help them stay regular” but I think it was just WAY too much for my tummy to handle.

      Maybe try taking some Bean-o or something? Obv I’m no doctor lol.

      Do you have a Polar F6? I thought they were supposed to be designed not to pick up interfering hearrate signals? I wouldn’t know because mine has been acting funny for like the last six months :(

      Sorry to hear that the stevia had a bad effect on you :( At least you know now for the future. I am lactose intolerant and it sucks because I love ice cream. I can do frozen yogurt every once in awhile but sometimes my tummy still acts up.

      I don’t think I have any food intolerances. Sorry the Stevia had that effect on you. I have a friend who has that happen whenever she has anything with Splenda in it. No fun at all.

      1. I’m the same way with artificial sweeteners. They KILL me. Other than that I can pretty much eat it all.
      2. Hmmm…. I like to stuff celery with pimiento cheese? Sorry I can’t think of anything of the top of my head, haha.

      Ohh yuck! So sorry for the Stevia bloop. That sucks. Well at least it’s not something you really enjoy. Like you said, imagine if that happened when you ate really good CHEESE or yogurt. I would die.
      Those oats do sound amazing and I want them in my life! Love banana oatmeal so much – and yeah I can’t imagine needing a sweetener.

      1) Sadly when I get a flare up of my ulcerative colitis (IBD) dairy gets tricky (so sad bcos I eat a LOT of it) and so does basically anything healthy! Raw fruit and veggies are a no no. It sucks but I will not ramble on.
      2) I like stuffing…hmmm…turkeys with stuffing! YUM!

      I think I am slightly intolerant of walnuts. They make my mouth feel funny if I eat too many….which can happen if said walnuts are candied and in a salad. and I’m a little lactose intolerant, but I think most of us are that so, whatev!

      My fave food to stuff is mushrooms too! I make some awesome ones, not to toot my own horn. I also stuffed acorn squash tonight and it was fab!!

      I am intolerant to large amounts of soy + slightly lactose intolerant, and artificial sweeteners give me headaches ‘cept stevia, its the only one I can have! I’m surprised it doesn’t give me trouble. I have tummy probs from errrything! The more natural the better!

      1. there are things I don’t generally choose to eat (soy, gluten) but I don’t really have any allergies or anything. I’m mad tough. I’m not even allergic to poison ivy. …I don’t like stevia either. I know xylitol definitely causes bloating and gas, but I didn’t know stevia does.

      2. I just like to stuff food in my mouth. I guess I do not make a lot of food that is stuffed? if I have to choose I guess I would say eggplant. my dad makes a mean stuffed eggplant.

      I’m a walking food intolerance. I’ve had tests up the wazoo, but none of it seems to make any sense. At the top of the list is pineapple, because I’ll throw up minutes after eating it. But avocado, raw spinach, raw brocolli, and sometimes even mango and banana make me feel really ill. Oh, and sugar alcohols and substitutes make me really gassy too. I’m still a gum addict though :P

      Ok, this is weird but I’ve been getting THE SAME PAINS. I don’t think it’s sweetener cause I’ve always used splenda, but they’re terrible and usually start up around 5-6 oclock, which is also weird because I haven’t been eating the same things every day.. I’ve been trying to narrow it down but I haven’t yet .. All I know is that it’s only started happening to me since I’ve been eating clean.

      It’s so hard for me to describe the pains cause its not gas and it’s not that I have to use the restroom.. It’s like someone’s clamping my insides or squeezing my stomach like you wring (is that a word) out a wet towel..

      Idk if this is the same pain but I hope I find out what it is, cause I’m so miserable I can’t eat from it sometimes. Sorry for the comment on the random old post!
