giddy in the aisles.

by Janetha on September 6, 2009

in meals,moves

yes, i just got extra happy at the grocery store but you will hear more about that momentarily.

first, a brief recap of the day.. no rambling tonight, it is 18 minutes until sunday so i better talk about saturday while there is still a little bit of it left.

i decided not to do my free day today because i want to cook for my family tomorrow and make something glorious that is possibly not 100% body-for-life friendly.  so when i woke up this morning it was business as usual…

meal 1: protein pancakes & coffee @ 9:00 AM

you can check out the protein pancake recipe i used here.

 9-5-09 009

i topped these 3 pancakes with some naturally more for some healthy fat.

after eating it was straight to my friend’s work, he was detailing my 4runner for me so i can sell it!  sometimes it is nice to know people, and in this case it is nice to know someone who details toyotas for a living.. he works at the dealership and has all the right tools.

two hours into the detailing process my friend swooped by and grabbed me so we could go get a bite to eat.  we chose a spot i love, it is called gourmandise the bakery.

9-5-09 016

meal 2: 1/2 turkey+avocado+sprouts sandwich on whole wheat & side salad with balsamic vinegar @ 12:00 PM

9-5-09 019

it was funny when i ordered. this is what i said: “can i get the turkey and cheese on whole wheat, minus the cheese, but with avocado and sprouts, but without mayo, oh and with mustard. dijon mustard. and a side salad, but no dressing, just dry, but can you bring a bottle of balsamic vinegar? thanks”

the waitress was writing it all down and she got it right!

their bread is baked fresh daily and it is seriously perfect. so chewy, so soft, so yum.

9-5-09 020

my friend got the special of the day, the grilled portobello sandwich which looked divine!

9-5-09 018

we did some shopping at my friend’s clothing store slash art gallery, fice, check them out.. cute stuff.

we went back by the dealership to check up on the auto progress but he was still working away! what a guy. so we then went and got pedicures to pass the time.

seven hours later, the runner was blingin! i kind of wished i wasn’t selling it, but then i remembered the lovely new WRX back home ;)

9-5-09 024

i was about to die from hunger since it was 5 PM by this time, luckily i had this bar from danica in my purse…

meal 3: pure protein bar @ 5:00 PM

(didn’t take a photo, oops, pulled this off the web. source.)

danica is right, tasted like a candy bar! and the stats were balanced.. 200 calories/20g protein/18g carb/5g fat. not bad!

then it was time to get some HIIT in and since it was an overcast day i decided outdoor running was a good idea.

i ran intervals for 20 minutes around the neighborhood, some uphill, some downhill, some flat ground, some with the wind, some against the wind.

stats: 20 min, 186 calories, max HR 173, average HR 155

running outside is a lot harder than on the treadmill. for one, you have to make yourself run faster instead of just pushing a button to speed up.  and second, the elements are factored in.. the wind, the heat of the sun, the uneven ground. yadda yadda, i was beat! and sweaty as. ick.

9-5-09 049

i cleaned my mess of a self up and marshall came over~we had a baseball game on the agenda.

since baseball games=no clean eats, i insisted we be late for the game so i could eat something at home!

meal 4: broccoli basil couscous+cottage cheese+grape tomatoes @ 7:25 PM

 9-5-09 037

9-5-09 038

yep, pretty similar to last night’s dinner but with more cottage cheese and without the tuna. it was just as good this time around! marshall even had some because he tried mine and thought it was so delicious. try it, dare ya!

we went to the ball game and our team pulled through in the bottom of the ninth and won! i am not a big baseball fanatic but i like a good, close game.

9-5-09 040

9-5-09 051

after the game we cruised to the grocery store because marshall had to get some essentials: spaghettio’s, spumoni ice cream, izze soda, yoplait yogurt.. you know.

every time i am at a grocery store i check for two things: mighty maple PB&Co peanut butter and orowheat sandwich thins.  no matter what store, no matter how many times i have been there.  i check.  marshall makes fun of me saying that the items i am looking for are never going to “magically appear”… well, guess what?!

9-5-09 047

and this was me:

9-5-09 066

yes! i got all sorts of excited! i mean.. this is a pretty monumental occasion for me.  i had even written the company asking them to sell the product in my area and they wrote back telling me that it wouldn’t be in the area any time soon.  this was last may, so i have been looking all summer with no luck.. until tonight!

9-5-09 067

yes i made marshall take my photo with some bread at the grocery store at 11 PM. so what?!

i love that these are only 100 calories, have 5g protein AND 5g fiber per sandwich thin.  i am a breadaholic :D and a nerd, but we all already knew that.

so i will be trying these out monday, no i did not go straight home and try one.. i already had my 5th meal all planned out and couldn’t go back on my planned bowl of amazingness…

meal 5: greek yogurt mess @ 11:30 AM

9-5-09 072

in the mix: 1 cup 0% fage, handful of heated blueberries & 1/2 cup trader joe’s 9 grain honey almond flax cereal.. drizzled with agave.

9-5-09 074

decadent, no doubt.

9-5-09 076

well that is that! i just polished off that mess of a bowl and now i am going to call it a night. well, on the internet at least. need to get some QT in with the pups ;)

oh! a few items of business before i go:

  1. i was ultra bored the other night and signed up for twitter. not sure how much i will use it or exactly how it works but hey, i am on there, so add me or chirp at me or somethang. my username is janeeetha.
  2. my girl kristin switched to wordpress and reader is giving her grief. check out her new blog at RIGHT NOW! oh AND she participated in flashback friday so check it out!
  3. when i asked if anyone was into FBF in my last post,  meant flashback friday, not foodbuzz fesitval. but some of you commented on it like you thought i meant the festival. and i laughed. so i thought i would share that with you all.

1. do you get giddy for groceries? enough to take photos in the aisles? tell me about it.

2. do you think it is harder to run outdoors or indoors?

ja-NEE-tha! haha…is that a wanna-be padma scar on your arm??

balancejoyanddelicias September 6, 2009 at 5:18 am

I can see your excitement finding that bread! Love your persistence on trying to find it in the almost impossible-to-find store.
I’m like that too, I’d go to different stores to fin whatever I’m obsessed about until I find it.
running outside is much harder, I hate the wind and/or the sun, so I almost never run outside.
You look really fit in that pic! ;)

Susan September 6, 2009 at 5:20 am

So many cute photos in this post! I’ve totally freaked out in grocery stores before. I regularly embarrass Chris. Funny too, cause the two things I ALWAYS check for no matter what store I’m in are Greek yogurt (which I’ve still never tried, and am starting to think New Brunswick has an import ban on…) and new Luna or Larabar flavours.

Totally harder to run outdoors. So many things working against you. But now that I’m used to how hard it is outside, the treadmill feels too easy! Which is a good thing…I guess…until the winter comes…

Yay for Twitter! :D

Leah September 6, 2009 at 5:29 am

Your abs are rockin’!

Can’t wait to see what you make for the fam today!

inmytummy September 6, 2009 at 6:01 am

I have definitely done the happy dance in the grocery store before. Actually once for those sandwich thins – although the ones that I buy are called Arnold not Orowheat. I think they’re the same. Like Edy’s and Dreyer’s – different names in different parts of the country?

I like running outside better but definitely take more walk breaks than when I run on the treadmill.

Michelle September 6, 2009 at 6:08 am

Yayyyy sandwich thins!! I do get excited in the grocery store pretty often, whenever I find something new and interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever danced in the ailes though…

I get mega bored on treadmills so I would much rather run outside.

Allie (Live Laugh Eat) September 6, 2009 at 6:36 am

I totally would have had a full on photo shoot with those sandwich thins if I had been waiting eagerly too! Right there in the grocery store :) When I get excited about items I awkwardly snap photos in the aisles and just figure I’ll never see those people ever again.

I think it’s harder to run outdoors. I need water at all times so it’s I can never go long distances outside. I also like to know my pace and distance–it keeps me motivated. I need a Garmin (hint hint Santa).

Katey September 6, 2009 at 7:04 am

See- I’m not a runner! I get bored too quickly! haha, I like to watch the food network while I workout on the elliptical! haha. Your yogurt mess looks wonderful! I Wish I liked greek yogurt !

Holly (The Healthy Everythingtarian) September 6, 2009 at 7:45 am

holy abs that. is your hair naturally that blond? if so, i officially envy you.

grocery shopping at 11pm…reason #3,498 we are meant to be friends. that sounds like an awesome saturday night. i was buzzed from tailgating at a football game, then found ice cream on my way home and drogged. i think going grocery shoppin’ with you would have been equally as awesome

that sammie + salad looks soooo good!

yes, i have taken pictures in grocery stores. one of these days, i am going to stop spacing out on a friday and do some FBF love.

i have to run outdoors – the dreadmill (as i have to refer to it as) is my arch enemy. im like 20 minutes tops on that thing. since i always run outside, i actually think running on the treadmill is harder.

love you janeeeeeeetha. have a fabby labor day!

Abby September 6, 2009 at 7:45 am

I am the BIGGEST grocery nerd ever (at the store for me, my mom or grandma a few times a week–nerd. Told ya…) Anyway, I get ridiculously excited if I find something normally sold at the Health Food store in our regular grocery. It’s rare, but it’s happened.

No matter what store I’m in, I always check the “organic/natural” section for their granolas, Larabars, Amy’s frozen meals, Greek yogurt, etc. I was stupid excited when Meijer started carrying Oikos and Fage a couple months ago, as it’s a bit cheaper there!

But I ramble…get excited. I do, and will kick anyone’s ass who gives you crap for it.

Kristin September 6, 2009 at 8:13 am

I’m always like that at restaurants too… making my own menu! lol

I LOVE sandwich thins! Although they’re Arnold’s Sandwich Thins and not Oroweat on the East Coast… same packaging and everything- weird!

Your last meal looks amazing. I love warming fruit up, it reminds me of pie!

1. I get ridiculously giddy at grocery stores! I am obsessed with grocery shopping, it’s almost a problem. Almost. I love finding new things. I freaked out when I found ST’s too, now I just need to find Flat Out wraps!!

2. Harder on the leggies to run outdoors, but it’s easier for me to go on an easy, breezy slow run outside than inside. I’m forced to push myself to the limit on the treadmill!

And thank youuu for the shoutout! I appreciate it mucho!

jenngirl September 6, 2009 at 8:22 am

I am the biggest “grocery store checker” always looking for blogger foodie items. And I was SO excited to find sandwich thins in my area last week too!! :)

1. so, clearly, yes…I get really giddy, and usually I’m with my mom and she looks at me like I’m crazy..then walks away while I drool over pb or sandwich thins or something…boo.

2. Outside is definitely more challenging! But it goes by faster for me, so I guess it all balances out :)

busylittlelexi September 6, 2009 at 8:29 am

OMG! we are twins! I found sandwich thins at the grocery store yesterday after whining bc I wanted to try them. I nearly “yelped” when I was looking for tortillas & my eyes landed on those sandwich thins. My bf looked at me like I was crazy!

ksgoodeats September 6, 2009 at 8:41 am

We have detailing connections as well – it’s nice knowing people in the biz, isn’t it!?

Meal 4?! Divine. I love your CC combos, it give me inspiration!

1. I get WAY too excited! When I discovered that one of my stores stocks all the Vitas, Greek yog, dips, and Newman’s Hermits I literally gasped!
2. Outdoors FOR SURE!

PS. I got the best picture of BB last night – it’ll be in my next post :)

Deb September 6, 2009 at 8:56 am

Word for word I would have ordered what you did.

Have you tried the sandwich thins? I was excited to find them but didn’t fall in love with much except the stats. Can’t wait to hear what you think.

I ADORE grocery stores!! Here are two posts: and I’m a market whore! :-)

*Andrea* September 6, 2009 at 8:58 am

i prefer treadmills for your reason – i can just press a button and force myself to keep up the pace rather than slowing down outside :( i loveeeee that bread! 100cal is amazing and the fiber keeps me full. grocery shopping is probably one of my favorite things to do lol

Deb September 6, 2009 at 9:06 am

PS Your friend’s website is cool- love the people sleeping on the bullet train. And your abs rock the house sistah!

insideiamdancing September 6, 2009 at 9:30 am

I LOVE the Pureprotein bars. The peanut butter marshmallow one and the smores one rock.

1. do you get giddy for groceries? enough to take photos in the aisles? tell me about it. I get BEYOND excited in grocery stores when I see new stuff! Like, crazy. I take notes (nerd alert #!1) then I tweet and I post some stuff in my blog and some stuff on a forum I frequent. Seriously I LOVE it. Monday mornings are when my favourite store get their stuff in and every few weeks there is new stuff- last week, BUTTERNUT SQUASH SAMOSAS. I had nobody to tell who would share my excitement so I’m telling you. ;)

2. do you think it is harder to run outdoors or indoors? outdoors I would be running for a bus or running away from something, indoors would likely be running to stop something burning in the oven/trying to get to a ringing phone…guess it depends on my motivation :P

Jenny September 6, 2009 at 10:01 am

I am the QUEEN of making special requests for my meals at restaurants.. true story: one time I was ordering a panini “without the mayo, on a different kind of bread, plus more veggies, and swiss cheese rather than cheddar” and the waiter legit laughed and said.. “so basically what you’re saying is you don’t want that sammie at all and want to create your own?” .. okay, maybe he didn’t say sammie — but how cool would that be if he did?

have a great day with the fam man! loveeeeee xo

Lindsay @ bananaandchocolate September 6, 2009 at 10:41 am

I hope you like the Oroweat sandwich thins. I think they are really good! I do the same thing checking over and over only I’m looking for PB&CO spicy peanut butter and popchips. Drives Morgan crazy! I get super excited whenever I find something I’ve been searching for!

lowandbhold September 6, 2009 at 10:41 am

Haha I was SOOO excited the first time I found those sandwich thins also. My roommate thought i was crazy.

The 4Runner is looking hot. I almost want to buy it, but I wreck bigger cars :(

1. Definitely get excited over groceries! Like every time I shop, haha.
2. Running outside kills me. I need to start doing it more often since my races aren’t going to be on a treadmill….

Erica September 6, 2009 at 10:51 am

I love naturally more! Its so yummy- I bet it was fantastic on those pancakes. The car looks like it turned out really well! I get excited every time I get to go food shopping- I love finding new products. I think its WAY harder to run inside- I get bored on the treadmill

Katharina September 6, 2009 at 12:59 pm

Ahh! You’re adorable!!! Don’t ever change, girl :D I love reading about your life and lol I’m going to sound like a nerd but I was like.. I wanna go grocery shopping with her!! Yay for the find :D

1. Umm.. I definitely do! Lol it would be strange if I didn’t and call myself a food blogger ;)

2. Hmm.. it’s harder to run indoors.. for me anyway. I just love to look around, and the feeling of my feet hitting the grass is awesome. It gives me this extra jump and invigorating feeling.

Emily (The Experimentarian) September 6, 2009 at 1:15 pm

Janetha, that’s so weird! I found some sandwich thins yesterday, too! And yes, I was totally psyched! I found mine a t the Dan’s on Highland and 7200. I have decided that Dan’s is the bomb. They have vita tops too, if only I could eat those!

amanda @ panda lunch September 6, 2009 at 1:19 pm

I love reading your posts! All of your food looks sooo good, it’s making me hungry, and I just ate!

Love the grocery store excitement, I’m right there with you, I’d have done the same thing! How often does something like that happen!

tessa September 6, 2009 at 1:35 pm

are you kidding me?! lurking in the grocery aisle is one of my only hobbies. no, not a hobby… rather a sport really. ha! fo reals.
and that yogurt mess looks absolutely amazin’.

which area are you going in seattle? my ass is usually too broke to din out BUT you must go to sushi land on queen anne if you can. supa cheap sushi on a conveyor belt… tis lovely.

oh and where do you watch true blood episodes online m’lady? cause girlfriend is trying to get that shit for free :)

have a lovely sunday, and get some good eats in on your free day woman!

Angharad (Eating for England) September 6, 2009 at 1:52 pm

Running indoors is way harder!! I constantly check my mileage/stats when I am on a treadmill and it makes the time go soooo slowly. I kind of hate it for anything over 3 miles. Plus outdoors there’s so much to look at and it’s constantly changing!

I’m glad you found something you’ve been keeping your eyes peeled for at the store! I did like those thins but then I heard that they were sweetened with Equal or some nonsense so I stopped buying them. I have no idea if this is true. But it grossed me out.

The turkey/sprouts/avo sandwich looks rocking!

Oh and you are one hot momma! Check out your svelte torso lady. Hubba hubba!

Okay sorry that was weird. I need to go eat…

whitney September 6, 2009 at 5:04 pm

girrrrrrllll- this food looks BOMB! i was seriously drooling when i saw the picture of your sammie- the bread looks freaking amazing!

oh, and running outside is WAAAAYYYY harder- hello, no ac/fans in my face? no tv to make the time pass by faster? you actually have to put effort into it! haa

hope youre having a great weekend! xo, whit

Lauren September 6, 2009 at 5:47 pm

I absolutely get excited in the grocery store… I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who does ;). I stalked the pb aisle in multiple stores for months before finally spotting Mighty Maple!

Diane, Fit to the Finish September 6, 2009 at 6:37 pm

Okay, I’m in the minority of your fabulous readers, but no, I don’t get excited in the grocery store! Maybe it’s because I have so many kids, and shopping is hard and time consuming sometimes!

Also, because I live in the country, I just can’t find a lot of the great foods I drool over in wonderful blogs like yours!!!

Inside running is harder for sure!

April September 6, 2009 at 7:31 pm

I LOVE the grocery store! I’ve thought about shopping for others because they hate it so much :) I too get excited when I see things that are new.

I typically prefer the treadmill but actually just found out i’m faster than I thought wearing my hubs garmin outside.

Mmmm…pancakes w/ pb look yummy!

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) September 6, 2009 at 8:06 pm

I see you commenting on so many of the blogs I read and comment on too, and I dig your headshot, so figured I’d pop over and say hi.

Running outdoors is def. harder than indoors on a treadmill, i.e. wind, hills, cars, nature, etc all make it more challening. No, never taken pics inside the groc store but once i get home sometimes I will take pics of my loot and post it.

PB2…I Just jumped on that bandwagon and ordered some last nite, even blogged about it. K’s GoodEats was a motivating factor, fa sure.

Julia September 6, 2009 at 8:55 pm

I’m so excited they finally started carrying Thins in your area! Yay!
I had half of one tonight with some jam…freakin YUM!
I also get extremely giddy at the store and after, I almost brought my camera today and I wish I would have – there were so many good sales and so many awesome products. It was a joyous occassion! haha
I think the hardest part about running either inside or out is changing between the two. I’m so used to running outside that it would absolutely kill me to run on a treadmill. But during the winter in MI when I could only run indoors on the treadmill it was absolutely killer when the weather finally got nice and I went back outside to run. It really is very very different, and once you get used to one it is so hard to readjust to the other.

Anne K. September 6, 2009 at 9:19 pm

ahhhhh i am jealous of your pancakes. i am ridiculously pancake-challenged. your lunch looks fab, too. yay for smart waitresses!

good job running outside! yea, it can be harder because on the treamill your not really propelling your body weight–you’re just picking up your feet and the belt moves. but it’s so much more interesting to run outside!

yay for sandwich thins! love em.

1) i looooove grocery shopping! I usually don’t bring my camera around with me, though. but I totally would take pics if i had it!

2) kind of… theoretically, it is supposed to be harder cause of what i said before. but my form changes on the treadmill (i have a forward lean outside), and it doesn’t feel as natural on the treadmill. plus it’s boring as hell!!! mentally, it’s SO much easier for me to run outside. on the treadmill, i’m always watching the distance monitor! i’d pick running outside over treadmill almost all the time (exceptions: rain, arizona summer heat, and michigan dead of winter). ha!

Andrea@WellnessNotes September 6, 2009 at 10:00 pm

I get quite excited when I finally find a grocery item I’ve been looking for. But I have never taken a picture in the store. Love the pic of you with the Sandwich Thins! :) Can’t wait to read what you think of them… :)

I think running outside is harder than running on the treadmill, especially if I haven’t done it for a while…

broccolihut September 6, 2009 at 10:48 pm

Holy gorgeous bread! I want!
You’ve got some rockin’ abs, girl.
1. I get totally giddy about groceries! You should have seen me in TJ’s on Saturday. I was practically skipping through the aisles.
2. Much harder to run outdoors for me. I do half n half now, 3 days outside, 3 days on the treddie.

Paige@ RunningAroundNormal September 6, 2009 at 10:48 pm

Hehe love the pics! Those sandwich thins rock.

I think it’s harder to run on the treadmill just because it goes by soo slowly and is pretty boring. I’m a big fan of outdoor running! I don’t know what I’m going to do when it gets snowy :(

Tay September 7, 2009 at 12:11 am

yay girl how exciting!!!! I love exciting finds at the grocery store – I was stoked when I found sandwich thins near me :-)

1. hellllz yes I get excited!!

2. oh running outside is much harder physically. But mentally 100% easier!! Treadmill is beyond boring!

Lara (Thinspired) September 7, 2009 at 4:19 am

Man, why can’t they sell the sandwich thins in the UK?! Love’em.
Yes, I get ridiculously excited about getting groceries, especially at a place like Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods. Never busted out the camera, but I am not above that at all. I even asked to go to WF on my last birthday ;) Weirdo.
I used to think it was harder to run outdoors, but now I’ve gotten used to it and I actually prefer it.
You look super fit in that photo, missy!

Alison September 7, 2009 at 6:35 am

I totally take pictures at the grocery store, it’s like my second home! Of course I would take photos of my second home!

I think the TM and running outdoors each have their pros and cons. You definitely have to work harder running outside, but the TM is hard for me because I find it boring! It’s easier to go further/longer outside.

P.S. you are totally smokin’ chicka! I LOVE IT!

Danica September 7, 2009 at 6:50 pm

Wait until you try the peanut butter chocolate one – FANTASTIC! I think I bought them all at Costco or Sam’s – I think Costco though.

I was the same way when I FINALLY found sandwich thins!

LOVE the 11 pm picture too :)

thelongweigh September 7, 2009 at 9:11 pm

I just found your blog and I love it! I also live in Utah and I can’t even tell you how excited I am that you found Thins! I have been looking for them everywhere too and also contacted the company! I’m gonna guess you found them at..Dans? (I’m trying to scope out the background in your pics.)

Oh..and gotta love the Bees!

allijag September 8, 2009 at 1:39 pm

I do the same thing to Mike all the time – and he gets way more embarrassed than I do! Sometimes – pictures just MUST be taken! ;)

Jessica (jesslikesithot) September 9, 2009 at 12:19 am

I always get giddy at the grocery store, it’s ok…..maybe I get a LITTLE excited over some new peanut butter…..or new flava of hummus!!! So sue me! The sandwich thins seem GOOD, but are sooooo tiny, right?! Oh well, i’m sure you’ll love ’em….fiberific, baby! ;)

You’re adorable, check out those abs!! You look great girl! Always have!

Betty October 24, 2011 at 12:10 pm
