gym rats.

by Janetha on August 28, 2009

in meals,moves

and by rats, i mean dogs.  you shall see in a second!

sooo ready for friday, how about you all? yep, i think it is unanimous. come onnn weekend.

well i am glad i let you all know that today is national banana lover’s day… it seems as if a whole bunch of you celebrated accordingly!  everyone likes to enjoy their bananas differently but the most popular way mentioned was in oats or frozen & whipped.  i never met a banana method i didn’t like, i am sure you all agree.

anyway, enough about bananas. for now at least. it is time to talk about the eats of today, because it is late.. and yeah.. let’s do this.

meal 1: protein oats @ 9:30 AM

speaking of repetitive meals…

the last two body parts (biceps and triceps) had nothing between sets because i was busy taking the most hilarious photos of the puppers harassing my mom while she was trying to work out:

8-27-09 020 8-27-09 021 8-27-09 028 8-27-09 033 8-27-09 040 8-27-09 041 8-27-09 045

they licked her off the mat! and she was laughing hysterically. i wish you all could have been there. so rad.

8-27-09 0578-27-09 055 8-27-09 056

then they said, “sorry nana sue, for kicking you off your mat, we love you.”

8-27-09 058

and then i ate a whole watermelon.

 8-27-09 059

no, not all of it. just my fair share. then it was time to whip up some dinner. actually, way past time.

meal 4?: grilled chicken, sliced tomatoes, bell peppers & cucumbers, sautéed patty pan squash & zukes

8-27-09 072 8-27-09 070 8-27-09 071

all the veggies were locally grown and super fresh, it was SUCH a tasty dinner! i liked eating some of them sautéed and some of them raw.

thennn i drove to marshall’s. oh i forgot to mention that my new car is the exact same as marshall’s car. well, pretty much. same year, same color.. but mine is a wagon and his is not. twins! but not on purpose.. i actually wanted a black car but this was the only limited wrx wagon in. the. state. (that was for sale) so twins it is! i will have to get a photo of them side by side for kicks ;)

i had to celebrate banana lover’s day a little more with some adventures in baking! and i whipped up a batch of vegan banana chocolate chip muffins~

and i did not have even a lick.  staying on track! i made these for my vegan dudes (they live with marshall).

every time i make these muffins i think of angharad because it is how we bonded! she found my muffins, i found her blog, it was meant to be.

and then i ate a fresh juicy peach.

and blogged.

and now it is super late, waaay past my bedtime.

hooray for flashback friday manana! everybody should participate :D

1. do you name your objects? ie: cars/phones/laptops/etc

2. how do you prefer your veggies… raw? grilled? steamed? baked? sautéed? blended? spiralized? dehydrated? ohhh the possibilities!

Ahhh Janetha! Just catching up on my blog reading today, so I will be flooding your inbox with comments ;)
I WANT YOUR MOM’S GYM!! I see she has a Power Plate. What are your thoughts on it? I have read conflicting things (totally works/total hoax). Thoughts?

Susan August 28, 2009 at 5:13 am

Bahahaha, those gym photos are hilarious! Dogs are SO rude when it comes to working out! My poodle is always all up in my space when I try to do mat stuff at my mom’s. Jeeeez :P

1. Yup! Well, not everything. But my bike is Scottie cause he’s a Scott Speedster. That’s actually how I refer to my bike in normal conversation.

2. Not raw!! Too many raw veggies tear my stomach apart, those can only be done in small quantities. I’m boring and love my veggies steamed, but grilled are a close second.

See ya for Flashback Friday!! :D

Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) August 28, 2009 at 6:11 am

Hahaha…I could not stop laughing and smiling over the pups and your mom. That is too hysterical. :D

And YAY for banana lover’s day. Thanks for reminding us all about it. I would have completely passed by without even knowing! :D

1. do you name your objects? ie: cars/phones/laptops/etc

YES! My car’s name is Frenchie, and my laptop’s name is Chip. ;)

2. how do you prefer your veggies… raw? grilled? steamed? baked? sautéed? blended? spiralized? dehydrated? ohhh the possibilities!

Depending on the veggies, I usually go for *roasted.* I’m in love with roasted beets, green beans, carrots, peppers, squash, you name it! Yum!

balancejoyanddelicias August 28, 2009 at 6:51 am

I love having repetitive meals…. it’s just so good and so convenient. So, no worries, your meals just remind myself that i’m not the weird person doing this.
1) I don’t name my objects… because I have bad memories.
2) veggies can be any form to be loved! :)

jenngirl August 28, 2009 at 7:19 am

haha I love the dogs in the gym!!

1. I don’t name objects, mainly because it never occurs to me to do so.

2. It totally depends on the vegetable…I like raw carrots, grilled zucchini, baked OR roasted sweet potato….oh veggies, how I love theeee!

Lindsay @ bananaandchocolate August 28, 2009 at 7:35 am

Your pups are just too cute! I love that they tried to help your mom work out!

I name some things. I got a new car in April and we’ve been trying to decide on a name. Nothing has stuck though. This has not been a good sign for our future kids! :)

As far as veggies go, it totaly depends on the veggie. I love raw spinach and carrots and zucchini any way that I can get it!

Holly (The Healthy Everythingtarian) August 28, 2009 at 7:46 am

hahahaha…i have several ideas for your car: (1) silver bullet, (2) silver sue (in honor of mama benson obv), (3) metallic monster, (4) platinum pistol. let me know what you think.

obv, i name everything. my first car was silver bullet (and i would like you to honor that by naming your car the same, if you so choose), 2nd was (ironically) green monster and my current baber is blue betty.

i am going to the grocery store with 2 things to buy: ranch seasoning + cottage cheese (i have garbanzos at home).

love me some mom-daughter workout time…too cute. laughed so hard at the pics of your mom laughing…contagious.

lots of love to you! have a fab weekenddddd!

Holly (The Healthy Everythingtarian) August 28, 2009 at 7:46 am

p.s. i like my veggies like i like my men…in a variety of ways. TWSS?

april August 28, 2009 at 8:06 am

Your puppies are so adorable!! I used to try and do exercises on the floor while babysitting.. yeah that didn’t really happen when a baby tries to climb all over you! haha.

I like my veggies steamed or grilled!

Therese August 28, 2009 at 8:34 am

Your mom is in ridiculous shape! What a MILF :)

In high school I had a Honda Accord named the white fox. Now I have a white Nissan Altima, appropriately named White Fox 2 lol.

Deb August 28, 2009 at 8:45 am

Your mom’s in great shape! Lucky you to have those genes :-D

Her abs got a great workout from laughing so hard!

Grilled veggies for moi!

How long was your workout? Seems like so long, but probably just looks it on paper! :-)

Deb August 28, 2009 at 8:47 am

PS. Seriously??? Six 40-pound dumbell bicep curls? For real?????!! I’m impressed!

Emily August 28, 2009 at 8:57 am

love the banana celebration and the mom-daughter-dogs workout! looks like it was another good day!

1. naming has to be an organic process. you can’t force it. let the name just come to you. it will! (that said, you may not want to know some of the names I’ve bestowed on pets, possessions, the husband.)

2. ooh baby I like it raw…

happy cherry turnover day!! :)

Alexandra August 28, 2009 at 9:02 am

I love your banana celebration. Seriously, banana + chocolate + peanut butter is heavenly. I blend chocolate protein powder with half a banana, peanut butter and spinach every. morning. period. So I do a bit of banana celebrations on the regular.

I don’t name everything. I just bought a pick-up truck and I named it “Cookie Pusher”. I’m in love.

I love veggies most ways, just not too soggy unless they are in something delicious such as enchiladas.. My favorite ways are raw, grilled, sauteed, roasted.

Happy Friday, lady!

Emily (A Nutritionist Eats) August 28, 2009 at 9:10 am

I want that chocolate, pb and banana smoothie!!! Yum!!!
I like my veggies anyway! Cooked, raw, grilled, etc!

insideiamdancing August 28, 2009 at 9:12 am

LOVE the pics! They let pets in your gym?!!!!!! So cool.

Dude…you will never guess what I found today? RANCH SEASONING (in the tiniest weirdest store in this entire city… is Hidden Valley the one you use? Was all they had)

Muffins = love. ‘Nuff said.

1. do you name your objects? no…but that doesn’t mean I don’t love them!

2. how do you prefer your veggies… raw? grilled? steamed? baked? sautéed? blended? spiralized? dehydrated? ohhh the possibilities! Roasted and cooled to room temp. I could (and do) eat entire baking trays of veg this way…

Lainie August 28, 2009 at 9:15 am

Janetha you eat SO HEATHILY! I envy you girl. I think I’ve been splurging too much lately…I need to just come look at your blog and eat whatever you’re eating every single day :)

1.) Don’t really name objects? Maybe with abbreviations…but overall, no…

2.) Love my veggies roasted. Best way to eat ’em, by far!

Alison August 28, 2009 at 9:41 am

1. No, I don’t really name my objects – I have a hard enough time calling the kids by the right name.
2. All of the above.

Thank you for that watermelon pic, I can rest easy now knowing I’m not alone in this big crazy thing we call the world!

And your mom rocks. She’s got the body of a teenager! Go momma go!

Kristin August 28, 2009 at 9:48 am

Ok, Banana+PB2 sounds like heaven, although I am jealous because I have yet to try PB2.

Congrats for staying on track with the muffins! Licking the batter is my weakness!

And yummm to fresh local veggies =)

1. Sometimes. My car’s name is J.B. (don’t ask), and I have a juicer named Joaquin. And some of my stuffed animals have names (but thats my boyfriend, not me lol)

2. I love veggies any way! But I prefer steamed, roasted or sauteed over raw!

Graze With Me August 28, 2009 at 9:51 am

Haha, those photos of your mom and the dogs are hilarious! I have two cats who get a little curious when I work out on the floor but nothing like that. They just lay on my face or chest and get mad when I move…

1) No I don’t name any of my stuff but my hubby does. He had a truck named Chuck E. Dale, his Jeep is called The Heap, his old commuter car was named the Smokin’ Nissan and his boat is named Molly. Actually I named the boat after Molly Ringwald because it’s upholstery is completely 80’s style.

2) I prefer my veggies eaten. :) I don’t care HOW they’re served!

Coco August 28, 2009 at 9:53 am

Love that you workout with your Mom!!! I’ve been trying to get my Mom into the gym, but shes lost a little motivation haha. I am so down to keep looking at your awesome protein oats. Mine got scorched this morning. BLAH!
Damn, I’m moving into a new apartment and one of the appliances I MUST buy is that Magic Bullet!!!!!
1. Of course I name my stuff. I have a black element and although it has nothing to do with the color I named him: watery element. I need help with a better name. Ideas?
2. I like my veggies grilled!!!

Run Sarah August 28, 2009 at 10:06 am

Raw, grilled, or steamed, love them all! THose puppy photos are soooo funny, made me totally smile this AM! I need to get some pics of Captain harrassing me during yoga.

Allison August 28, 2009 at 10:44 am

lol – oh my – i absolutely loved that photo montage of the puppage harassment – you could totally tell your mom was cracking up! :) so fun!

Lauren August 28, 2009 at 10:58 am

I don’t think I have ever seen a girl look that beautiful while pumping some serious iron. How do you manage to look so put together during your intense workouts girl? :)

Yay for celebrating Banana day with some muffins. It’s a holiday and something sweet was definitely a must! :)

Take care love.

ksgoodeats August 28, 2009 at 11:21 am

Your celebratory drink sounds extra tasty and I don’t even like bananas! Those muffins look extra delicious as well :)

LOVE the puppy/work out montage! They’re just trying to “help”!

1. My phone has a name but that’s about it. My old car used to have a name but not my new one.
2. I love veggies no matter how they’re prepared – I eat ’em up!

julie August 28, 2009 at 11:35 am

I wish I celebrated the banana holiday in a better way! You’re good at celebrating the holidays girl :)

I am not good with naming things at all. haha at all.

And I love my veggies EVERYWAY especially with salsa :)

Okay 2 things: 1. your mom is in sick shape. i’m officially jealous
2. i’m jealous of your mom’s home gym. it’s probably better then the one I pay to go to.

Erin August 28, 2009 at 12:27 pm

I’m dying with laughter at the gym rat dogs! Look how flarking cute they are, booting Mom off the gym mat!!!!! LOL!

I prefer veggies steamed and fruit raw. I guess I’m pretty basic. Except cauliflower. I throw that in the compost pile whenever possible. :p

Megan August 28, 2009 at 12:35 pm

I love the pics of your dogs and your mom!! Hahha it seems like it was a hilarious evening!!

1. No, sadly I don’t name my objects.. I should though!

2. It depends on the veggie!! I only eat RAW carrots, but only eat STEAMED broccoli! I love grilled asparagus and squash… so many endless possibilities!

Angharad August 28, 2009 at 12:46 pm

I love you! I’m so glad those muffins make you think of me because they most certainly make me think of you (funny, seeing as how I have to visit your blog for the recipe every time I make them…doink)
Yay! They will most certainly be a part of the baking extravaganza I am planning post move-in.
The dogs are out of control hilarious! I love rolling on the floor with pups! Adorable.
I am still kind of seething with jealously about this car. Call her Doris. For real.

1) Not in general but I have been known to. I like naming zippy little cars old lady/man names. Like Doris. And Cedrick.

2. how do you prefer your veggies… I love that you had both raw and sauteed. I think sauteed is my fave but then how can you ignore salads which I heart?! Gah!

Ohhhh poo. I forgot about Flashback Friday! I am gonna need to incorporate that later…hmmm. *thinking cap on*

Loves. Big time xxxx

Michelle August 28, 2009 at 1:17 pm

My car’s name is Betty. I don’t remember why I gave her that name, it just seemed to fit. The right name will just come to you. :)

I love love LOVE grilled veggies. I also like to eat tomatoes raw like an apple, just taking bites out of it.

lowandbhold August 28, 2009 at 1:20 pm

Haha, those dogs are so workin’ on their fitness!! I love it!

1. My car is named Ursula, but I’m not really sure why. It’s not evil, ugly, or a sea creature. My friend named her car the Shitney, after the jitney in NY. That’s a good one.
2. I love veggies in all forms! Faves would be raw, grilled or steamed.

Julia August 28, 2009 at 1:40 pm

My car’s name is Tito…I’m not really sure why, I just didn’t want to name it a girl name, because I don’t consider my car to be a girl.
I love veggies basically any way too, they’re just so delish!

Katharina August 28, 2009 at 1:58 pm

So I’m sitting at the Starbuck’s in my school’s library and as soon as my song was changing – someone said banana! I was just going to type that I’m gonna go home and celebrate!

1. Umm.. I don’t think I usually name my objects. I feel like I should start this though!

2. It really depends. I prefer my carrots raw, cauliflower cooked (raw makes me gassy).. and my zucchini cooked.. umm.. sweet potato steamed. Actually.. I really will eat almost any veggie in whatever form lol.

mom August 28, 2009 at 2:13 pm

Haha I am laughing all over again, those pups were SO dang silly!! Thanks for all of the compliments that were thrown my way :)

Ok, yes, I names my first little Vega, Eloise (she was orange)
My GPS (and everyone elses), Gladys
Now I really should name that cute wake board!
Can I just say how absolutely darling you look with that spiffy car and hey yeah, silver sue??

I am now going to go fix some garbanzo, cottage cheese, tomato, chicken concoction, yum can’t wait xoxoxoxo!!

Becky August 28, 2009 at 4:37 pm

ooooh gotta love those jump squats. I definitely have a love-hate relationship with them. They are awesome for toning but are a biotch to get through.
1. The only thing I have a name for is one of my sleeping bags (weird). But its a 0 degree synthetic bag…meaning its HUGE, but oh so warm :) We call it Thor. And it only gets to come on car camping trips when its cold out.
2. I love veggies grilled. Preferably on a charcoal grill.
I am still sooo jealous of that gym at your mom’s! That would be so convenient to have everything at your fingertips :)

Jenny August 28, 2009 at 4:38 pm

please tell me you wore a party hat while chowing down on that naner? that would’ve been so festive.

Allie (Live Laugh Eat) August 28, 2009 at 4:40 pm

I’ve been brainstorming what to name my car for the longest time…it’s like naming a child! I’ve been waiting for the perfect name to come to me but no such luck.

Haha so cute that you and your momma worked out together!

Mary :: A Merry Life August 28, 2009 at 5:02 pm

Yeah I’m behind on my blog reading/commenting as well. Hah.

Those dog are adorable. :)

1. do you name your objects? No. Only my laptop, which is named Tornado Baby because I got it after a tornado hit my school.

2. how do you prefer your veggies… ? Grilled. But I love that there are so many different ways to have them!

Kristie August 28, 2009 at 5:44 pm

Bananas in pajamas are coming down the stairs, bananas in pajamas are coming down in pairs… great show? Yes, no?

I love the gym/puppy pics. Adorable. Now that’s the way to work out!

I never get sick of seeing your repeat meals. They always just make me want to eat em!

1. I always WANT to name my stuff but I never do. It’s so sad. My car hates that it doesn’t have a stable name! It’s been called a few different things in the past but it craves something concrete!

2. I like my veg in any way, shape or form. Totally depends on the veg but roasting nearly anything is a-okay with me. And most often I eat em raw out of laziness!

broccolihut August 28, 2009 at 10:32 pm

How long have you been a Bullet fan? I like to consider myself a part of the MB cult.
I name everything! My iPod, laptop, cars, pretty much anything electronic. They’re all weird names too, like Nestor the Nano and Velda the Video iPod.
I like veggies almost anyway but I usually stick with steamed or raw.

hayleycepeda August 29, 2009 at 4:04 am

Your mom looks fantastic!! I couldn’t figure out why/how you’d brought your/her dogs to the gym until I realized that was HER gym!! SOOO COOL!!!! Those pictures are so cute.. :)

Hmmm…how do I love my veggies? Depending on which veggies they are I love zucchini & yellow squash spiralized, butternut squash baked into fries, broccoli steamed…eh – I like them done pretty much any way other than fried. Grilled is always good too or just straight up raw in a salad. :)

Tay August 29, 2009 at 11:47 pm

LOL so funny about your dogs. Poor mommy trying to get her workout in!!!

1. I’ve always wanted to name my car, but haven’t. I’ve named a few things – my pillow backrest is name Humph and my new phone is named Chicago (long story – don’t ask!!)

2. Well duh who deosn’t like fried potatoes?!?!? But I like my veggies either lightly sauteed or grilled best!

nic - the auspicious squirrel November 8, 2009 at 11:58 am

Yea! Basset Hounds! How old is Randy? My basset hound is 13 years old! Cute as ever! :)
