bon appetit.

in meals,moves

hi guys!  hope everyone survived their mondays without too many casualties.  mine has been pretty stellar, at least for a monday.  before i dive into that i wanted to touch on a couple thangs from my last post~

1. the peanut butter bar recipe is fantastic, i make it often, and the recipe can be found on my recipe page or by clicking here. you can make the vegan version or the nonvegan one, i usually make the vegan version but on saturday i did use milk chocolate as i was not entertaining any of my vegan pals.

2. the fruit pizza recipe was asked for by a few of you and well, it is not much of a recipe, but i will tell you how i make it!  i buy a package of pillsbury pre-made sugar cookie dough and roll it out on a 13×9 cookie sheet and bake it according to the directions, you may need to poke fork holes in it halfway through to prevent bubbles. for the "pizza sauce" i mix 8 oz cream cheese, half a can of sweetened condensed milk and a liberal amount of vanilla extract together.  i spread that onto the cooled "crust" and then top with whatever fruit!  super simple, super sugary, super delicious.

3. props on all the games you guys named! it gave me some new ideas and reminded me of some old face card classics (spoons and bullshit!) i should have mentioned my favorite games, which my #1 all time fave is boggle and my favorite person to play it with is my mom! and i also like several of the ones named~scattergories, scrabble, catch phrase.. good stuff.

4. wow everyone has such a different opinion on when to run, where to run and who to run with! i think i prefer running at sunset by myself, outside.

okay now with that out of the way i can move on to today!

it was a good thing i had so many naps yesterday because marshall ended up purchasing season 3 of weeds and we ended up watching it until 1 AM when i had to be up at 5:30 AM! eep! sleepy janetha b.  i still made it to work though, 3 minutes early in fact.

on the drive to work i was starving! my stomach was gnawing away at my hard-earned muscle, probably because i didn’t eat anything substantial last night. i chomped on this cameo en route to work and i also downed 24 oz of agua.

breakfast was the usual monday morning eats at the original pancake house for my sales meeting.  today i went with:

meal 1: 3 egg whites scrambled with mushrooms, onions & tomatoes topped with (not very ripe) avocado and a side of fruit. black coffee to drink @ 8:30 AM

IMG_3577 IMG_3576
between this and the apple i was pleasantly held over for 4 hours!

lunch time rolled around and i whipped up something simple that i had on-hand in the office kitchen…
meal 2: tuna wrap @ 12:30 PM

this had a pouch of albacore, 1/4 cup cottage cheese and some annie’s horse radish mustard along with a huge bed of sprouts all wrapped up in a don pancho high fiber low carb tortilla.

i left work at 3:30 which is when i was scheduled to eat again so i whipped up something for the road~
meal 3: chocolate banana protein shake @ 3:30 PM

remembered to snap a photo before it was gone. i love these shakes because the frozen banana i use for it lends the shake the same texture of ice cream.  during my last body-for-life challenge i would have these every time i craved ice cream and it did a great job of satisfying the urge to go to the freezer for some haagen daaz.  if you have an ice cream addiction like me i highly suggest you try this!  it is almost unbelievable that this is a balanced and approved snack.

  • 12 reps

WHEW! this was such a good workout! it took 48 minutes, max HR= 167, average HR= 126, calories burned= 296. i really liked the running sprints between the bicep sets. that needs to happen more often!

after my workout it was straight to marshall’s to change outta my stank gym clothes and dart quickly to jason’s deli.. marshall was taking my mom and i on a date!!

meal 4: salad bar+grilled chicken @ 6:45 PM

in the mix:

  • spinach
  • romaine
  • arugula
  • cukes
  • cauliflower
  • broccoli
  • peas
  • sprouts
  • red & yellow bell peppers
  • sunflower seeds
  • green & kalamata olives
  • mushrooms
  • cottage cheese
  • dijon mustard

no need for dressing. i did have a need for protein in my life so i ordered some grilled chicken and threw it on top~

i love jason’s deli! their salad bar is organic and they have such a great selection of veggies.. definitely a close second to my beloved whole food’s salad bar. well done jason, whoever you are. i sure do love your deli.

i didn’t even get any free ice cream. that was rough, but i succeeded :D

thennnn guess what part deuce of our date was? you can probably tell from my title, if you have seen it…

loved it! love love loved it. i found myself nodding my head the whole time, laughing at things i could relate to and marshall was “shushing” me and my mom the whole time for gabbing our faces off to each other. what can ya do?

the only complaint i have about the movie was the abundance of mastication in my ears.  my #1 pet peeve in the WHOLE WORLD is the sound of chewing.  i hate it with a passion.. i seriously get anxiety over it and have to plug my ears.  sometimes my boss will call and leave me messages of him chewing food just to make me mad.  and the sound of loud gulping when someone is drinking freaks me out too.  i have to stop talking about it now, i am getting a little anxious just typing this.

i did have the equivalent of about a cup and a half of unphotographed unbuttered popcorn ~ i couldn’t resist.

now i am back at marshall’s, polished off my gallon of water long ago.. i think i am up to about 164 ounces actually! doing real good on water consumption, flushing any extra sodium from my free day outta me.  i don’t think i will eat again, i am not hungry and i am going to sleep right after i hit publish.

with that said…sorry this post is boring and has a lack of photos but i am aiming to get some good sleep tonight so it is time to cut this short!  big day tomorrow! well, for someone in my little family ;) stay tuned.

1. fill in the blizzank: my biggest pet peeve evvvver is ____________. already toldja my answer.

2. going with the theme of julie & julia~if you had to pick one type of cuisine cookbook to cook your way through, what would it be? and it has to be one specific cuisine, like julie did french cuisine…none of the “cookbooks with all types of food” in them.  i would do italian.

My BIGGEST pet peeve is actually hearing people chew as well. Not so much the crunching but the sound of saliva and mashing UGH! I would love to cook my way through a vegan cookbook.

mom August 17, 2009 at 11:24 pm

What an awesome date! Loved the deli food, I got a sandwich with good stuff plus chicken. The movie was SO great!! Seeing it with my own personal chef was the very best – had my fill of some popcorn and a tiny coke beverage! Thanks Marshall for dinner and for tolerating our gabbiness in the movie – it was a fun evening!!
Oh, just for everyone’s info – do not flash your lights at an on coming car to tell them their head lights are out YOU WILL GET PULLED OVER – yep, a nice friendly cop fellow was kind enough to give me a warning but let me know it could be a pretty hefty fine – considered me fully warned and now you are too!! xoxoxo

Elliott August 17, 2009 at 11:27 pm

Have you ever heard the sound of someone eating a banana. I’m actually gagging at the memory of it. Absolutely terrible.

Rather than a cuisine, I’d say that I’d love to make my way through a hard-core bread book. I know that my loaves aren’t at their best and I *need* to understand the science behind it to get it right!

buffmuffy August 17, 2009 at 11:44 pm

hey girly :)
You had blackberries without me! blargh!
1. pet peeves … gosh i have so many. I’m very OCD with certain things. I like matchingness and evenness lol. I like things a certain way. i hate most whistling… i hate when someone sings offkey. i hate bad drivers. i hate my anxiety and when my hair is bothering me. i hate frontal wedgies that just wont go away. i hate wedgies at work! lots of stuff, lol. unfortunately i could go on forever.
2.german! as is my heritage. Or japanese because i LOVE japanese cuisine. YUM!

Mia August 18, 2009 at 4:44 am

1. I think my biggest pet peeve would have to be when people continuously asks What?! all the time – really irks me! I can understand the chewing, though it only bothers me when it’s really loud or when someone is really obnoxious about it.

2. I’d really like to go through a cookbook which corresponds to a certain diet (vegan, raw, etc) but if I had to choose internationally – chinese, probably.

Erika August 18, 2009 at 5:59 am

Love your blog! I need to start following some of your workouts! :)

I would love to try and cook my way through a raw cookbook because it seems like sucha challenge to me.

Emily (The Experimentarian) August 18, 2009 at 6:10 am

Ha ha! That’s so funny. I HAAAATEEEE to listen to people eat, too! I actually DO NOT go to the movies but once in a blue moon solely based on the fact that I absolutely cannot stand to listen to people eat their popcorn and twizzlers!

Alison August 18, 2009 at 6:14 am

First I LUV the texture of frozen banana whipped up in the food processor – I do it sans protein powder but it really is an ice cream replacement!

You crack me up with your pet peeve. My mom hates the sound of people “snarfing”, like if they have a cold and need to blow their nose. Your seems similar to that in my mind!

So this is more of a tiny pet peeve but it’s fresh in my mind cause I just got back from a run – seeing people running or riding their bike on the wrong side of the road! OK that’s pretty nerdy but what can I say?

Coco August 18, 2009 at 7:13 am

My pet peeve is when people chew with their mouth open. Hahah that’s probably such a common one, but I know I have others I just can’t think right now…too early.
2. I would def pick an Italian cookbook. All that food is my fave!
Love your banana protein shake!!! What is the breakdown of ingredients in that??? I wanna make it!

hayleycepeda August 18, 2009 at 7:39 am

I just saw that movie on Saturday and I LOVED it!! It’s so funny because you said you hated the sound of people chewing food and I am the opposite. It is the weirdest thing, but for some reason when I hear people eating crunchy foods (chips, ice, etc) it makes me feel calm. How weird is that? I just love the sound.

On the other hand, I was JUST thinking the other day that if anyone ever asked me what my biggest pet peeve is I’d have to say it is people who DON’T turn right at a red light when it’s perfectly legal and there are NO other cars coming. I always seem to get stuck behind them and they sit there and sit there until finally a long stream of cars come and they can’t turn anyway. It drives me up the wall. Ok so maybe a wee bit of road rage? :)

As for cookbooks, I can’t say I have a favorite only because I tend to get all my recipes online. However, I bought a used copy of my mom’s Good Housekeeping book and I have to say it is the most wonderful and easy recipes in it. It’s very old, but it’s a great book!

Lindsay @ bananaandchocolate August 18, 2009 at 7:39 am

The sound of someone chewing is one of my biggest pet peeve. Ugh! It’s just so gross!

If I had to pick just one cuisine to cook my way through it would be italian. What I would really love to do is cook my way through a breakfast cookbook!

hayleycepeda August 18, 2009 at 7:40 am

Oops! I forgot to click the “notify me of follow-up comments” box. I also meant to say that it is a Good Housekeeping Cook book.

jenngirl August 18, 2009 at 7:48 am

All of your eats are delicious and protein filled- love it!!

1. people who stand too close to you in line, like awkwardly hover…i need my personal space!

2. French, for sure :)

dailygoods August 18, 2009 at 8:08 am

so glad you loved the movieeee :) my pet peeve is when people misspell common words. i don’t know why that bothers me so much! like use there instead of their. haha. im a weirdo :) love ya girl!

ksgoodeats August 18, 2009 at 8:13 am

My friends and I used to have fruit pizza parties where we just made and ate fruit pizza. Too delicious!

EW!!! I can not STAND hearing other people chew! It drives me insane!!! I feel your pain!

1. I have so many – people who are late, when words are spelled wrong, hearing people chew, when people tap their fingers/pens/etc. I could go on
2. Anything Greek/Med. and vegetarian!

Therese August 18, 2009 at 8:36 am

My pet peeve? People not saying thank you…like when you hold the door for someone, or the elevator. Come on! Were you raised in a barn?

You are doing so well with BFL! No free ice cream…that takes strength girlie!

Susan August 18, 2009 at 8:39 am

Jason’s Deli sounds awesome!! I love the salad you threw together there :) Also loved: your workout. Sprinting between sets? You rock my socks JB!

1. Hmm… good Q… Probably people who are impatient. I’m a slow moving, relaxed type of gal. I will move even slower if you start rushing me or look at me impatiently. I like to do things in my own time :)

2. Lebanese or Greek, obvi ;)

erinbee August 18, 2009 at 9:01 am

i cannot handle chewing either.

like that scene where theyre eating
the bruschetta in the beginning[ish]..
yeah. i was beside myself. aaaawful.

also. i cannot stand people who dont
wash their hands after going to the loo.

snackface August 18, 2009 at 9:03 am

Janetha! I’ve missed reading your posts! I’m about to go catch up on the two previous ones after I comment on zeese one.

OK, I have to admit that I sometimes skip over the moves part, but today I read it and realized you’re a mutha f-in badass! OMG I’d never mess with you. Also, this in combination with your clean eats+ water intake is SO inspiring! Seriously, you make me realize that I can whip myself into shape whenever! (AKA as soon as I’m back at school.)

Holy sh. CHEWING!!! It makes me want to gag/ slap the person doing it. It’s disgusting. I even asked MamaJ to spit our her gum last night because the sound was horrific. It’s ok, of course, if I’m the one chewing. My other top pet peeve is when people end a sentence with “at” as in “Where are you at?” NO! “Where are you?” is perfectly fine! Third pet peeve: lazy asses. Come to work. Please don’t call in “sick,” esp. if I know you’re not even in our damn apartment. Whoops, talking about my co-worker.

Oooh I’d work my way through a Mediterranean cookbook in a heartbeat. LOVE.

OK- off to catch up now!

Emily August 18, 2009 at 9:04 am

ugh, I’ve been so remiss in my commenting! Your eats and workouts have been so hardcore lately! Mad impress. I wanted to say I’ve been super inspired by your water consumption too. I’ve been toting my kleen kanteen everywhere lately. Water makes a body happy!

1. omgeee I hate any kind of chewing, slurping (SHUDDER), swallowing sound. I also hate it when people make noise when they yawn. And I have lots of word/language pet peeves: when people use myriad or comprise incorrectly, misuse certain pronouns…

2. Hm, it would have to be a cuisine that has lots of vegan food. I’m not sure!

april August 18, 2009 at 9:06 am

We have a Jason’s Deli but I’ve never been! I’ve heard it’s overpriced but your salad looks so amazing I may just have to try it!

I’m going to try that protein shake for a substitute for ice cream.. what measurements do you use?

holly the healthy everythingtarian August 18, 2009 at 9:10 am

i love me some janetha in my life. first up, i must comment on the awesome cabin weekend of yore. fruit ‘zza + pb bars = heaven. i am so glad you got to have some of your fave cereal and enjoy food just because it tastes damn good! gotta love a good free day for that!

you are marshall are too cute – i think i mention that like every other comment.

yay for mad water consumption, killer recipes (which i WOULD make but living alone with desserts in the house is NOT a good equation because it would equal out to me eating them all). p.s. did you get the e-mail i sent you about casual (cazh) and usual (still in question). i think maybe usual should be ushz? does that work?

LOVED julie + julia.

(1) pet peeve (i have several – i can’t help it): rude people for no reason, long ankle-length denim jean skirts and articles of clothing that fade from one color to another.

(2) i think i want to find an Indian or Thai cookbook and become an ethnic food wizard!

much love to you…have a fabulous tuesday, and i think that you, me and angharad should all run the madison 1/2 marathon together in may. just putting it out there. plan accordingly.

allijag August 18, 2009 at 9:19 am

Stop talking about that fruit pizza already! If you keep it up – I’m going to go home – make a full batch – and eat it ALL myself. and i will hold you responsible. :P

Kailey (PB Swirl) August 18, 2009 at 9:26 am

thank you for the PB recipe – will totally be making that soon :)

wow your eats are SO incredibly clean and healthy. your doing a great job :)

loved Julie & Julia too!

tessa August 18, 2009 at 10:34 am

shoo lady, ya eats are so clean now!!
that fruit dessert sounds like a dime piece.
if i could could my way through any cook book it would probably be a baking one… cupcakes perhaps. and i would be 20 pounds full of frosting heavier ahah!

Graze With Me August 18, 2009 at 11:20 am

Tuna and cottage cheese? Hell yeeah. Great idea!

1) You totally stole mine (I HATE the sound of people chewing) so I guess I’ll go with whistling. CAN. NOT. STAND. IT. Maybe because I can’t whistle…

2) I would say a dessert cookbook….I love any form of baking.

Angharad August 18, 2009 at 12:08 pm

chica. good day to you. i love your dedication to b4l. you’re a badass for sure. respeckt.
ugh the sound of people chewing gum makes me want to gag.
can’t wait to see j&j. what a cutie marshall is for taking you and your mom.
1) other pet peeves include: whistling, unnecessary rudeness, stupidity and bad grammar.
2) thai!

insideiamdancing August 18, 2009 at 12:42 pm

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah….so so pumped to be getting my Janetha fix again! Man, I’ve missed your blog! Huh. Need to do some back reading and catch up. I am so obsessed with plain and simple oats + protein powder right now. Time and a place for fancy oats, but right now am digging the straight up stuff.

So. 1. fill in the blizzank: my biggest pet peeve evvvver is people being late. Gah. Or eating my food. I am so like Joey from friends- “Joes doesn’t share food!” Lol. Though if you ask first, it’s cool.

2. going with the theme of julie & julia~if you had to pick one type of cuisine cookbook to cook your way through, what would it be? and it has to be one specific cuisine, like julie did french cuisine…none of the “cookbooks with all types of food” in them. Can I say sandwiches or wraps? I’d LOVE to try sandwich creating/variations from around the world!

Megan August 18, 2009 at 1:00 pm

congrats on all the clean eating!! i wish i could jump on that train with you.. i’m such a sucker for sweets! keeeeep it up!

Michal Mymo August 18, 2009 at 1:56 pm

hey girl!
all of your eats look really tasty :)
My biggest pet peeve would have to be people who are fake. I wish everyone could just be happy with who they are but you always get people who pretend to be something that they’re not and that reallllllyyyyy annoys me.

Hmm… as for one type of cuisine i would say medterannian (sp?) i love hummus and baba I could (and do!) eat if everyday

April August 18, 2009 at 2:18 pm

My pet peeve is when people leave their radios and air conditioners on and shut off their car. Oddly enough that is my hubs too!

I would have to say I would choose Mexican. I don’t eat it enough but I adore it.

Great workouts and eating J!

Sarah (Finding My Balance) August 18, 2009 at 2:27 pm

I HATE CHEWING, TOO! I am so sensitive to it, I seriously get grossed out if I can hear someone chewing and swallowing.

I also get peeved when I see or hear a serious grammar/spelling issue (from a source that shouldn’t have one, like a book, professor’s notes, or a TV show–I’m a little more lenient in everyday speech, and recognizing that typos happen :) ).

I have no idea what single cuisine I would cook! I like so many things, it is hard to choose just one. Georgian food? Middle Eastern? Indian? Gah! Maybe a big breakfast recipes cookbook… or cupcake cookbook… or.. this is getting us nowhere, I’ll stop.

Michelle August 18, 2009 at 2:45 pm

My answers to the questions are the same as yours today! I have this really weird thing with teeth and mouths, I can’t stand them, and the sound of people chewing absolutely makes me want to throw up instantly. It’s awful, I cannot handle it. And I would totally cook my way through an Italian cookbook.

Michelle August 18, 2009 at 2:45 pm

Or on second thought, I might have to go with Sarah who posted above me and do a cupcake cookbook instead. :)

lowandbhold August 18, 2009 at 3:59 pm

Eww, thanks for tipping me off about all the chewing. I hadn’t thought about that!

1. leaving dishes in MY sink.
2. Something Asian – either Thai or Indian I think.

Jenny August 18, 2009 at 4:14 pm

i have never thought to use cottage cheese to make tuna salad — thus why i need you in my life to fill me in on killah foodie ideas

biggest pet peeve.. loud chewers – i can’t do it.. though i definitely am probably one myself.. talk about hypocrisy.

Kristen August 18, 2009 at 4:36 pm

Not washing hands is my #1 pet peeve! Just inexcusable!

I’d like to cook my way through a vegan cookbook!

Paige @ Running Around Normal August 18, 2009 at 5:01 pm

Thanks for the recipes! Nice job at the workout, girl. My biggest pet peeve are people who are rude for no reason. Grr…

Anyway, I added you to my blogroll! You have such a good blog :)

peanutbutterprerogative August 18, 2009 at 6:00 pm

aww what a sweet boyfriend you have! and i’m so glad you loved it!! that is definitely my pet peeve too…just experienced that at The Time Traveler’s Wife with my friend…just kept munching and munching…and munching his way through that so called small popcorn. ugh, the most annoying sound ever. that, and people chewing with their mouths open! even still, my biggest pet peeve is neither of those! it would definitely be people walking slowly in the mall! when i’m there, i’m there on a mission!

inmytummy August 18, 2009 at 6:22 pm

I hate it when people talk on cell phones on the treadmilll.

I want to see Julie and Julia. I’m glad you liked it. Have you read the book?

Erin August 18, 2009 at 6:49 pm

I really studied your Moves today, and JHC girl. You are a machine. Srsly. How do you have the endurance for such kickass workouts?

My biggest pet peeve…farm tractors that drive on the road.

And. Animals dressed as humans.

homegirlcaneat August 18, 2009 at 7:16 pm

YO MAMI! At boarding school one of my dorm moms would always make fruit pizza for us! It was the biggest treat ever and SO AMAZING! The icing + suga cookie + strawb, kiwi, and bloobs…LIFE!

Biggest pet peeve… prob when people have had memory and think they did things that you know you did. Does that make sense? Like my friend always forgets things and then gives herself credit for it…when I usually do it! I ain’t trying to have da ego, just annoys da shiz outa me!

julie August 18, 2009 at 7:50 pm

hahaha I just noticed I don’t know if it’s all the time but I did just notice that your mom commented which is hilarious and I love it.

my biggest pet peeve ever is FOOD NOISE! I think it comes from Van (my dad) who smacks everything and anything and uses his self proclaimed “chomp bite” UGH it makes me sick thinking of it

I would cook through a baked goods cookbook and then be 500lbs heavier because baked goods are amazing. PIES.

Lara (Thinspired) August 20, 2009 at 3:42 am

I can’t WAIT to see that movei! It doesn’t come out here until September :(

I have so many pet peeves. #1 is probably when people mispronounce my name. I never feel comfortable correcting them, but they always assume it is Laura.

Other pet peeves: Your/You’re confusion, and people who won’t eat nuts because they’re fattening.
