burnt to a crisp.

by Janetha on June 29, 2009

in meals

not my toast, me. i am one crispy gal. went to raging waters today.. a water park here in the SLC. it was a scorcher and i am a lobster. please don’t try to cook me up and eat me with your pasta, sophia!

so i always wonder.. when to use “burnt” and when to use “burned”.  is there a rule? or are the interchangeable? think about it.

rewind!

SUNDAY!

had a little naner + DCD to fuel myself between breakfast and linner.  or should i say dunch? it was lunch+dinner combined. you pick the word.

6-28-09 001

then i went to my parents’ casa and started the cooking extravaganza!

baked beans.

red pepper hummus (from scratch) & pitas (not from scratch).

6-28-09 046

6-28-09 0136-28-09 011 6-28-09 012

some items for the burgers..

horseradish dijon mayo.

6-28-09 032

avocado relish.. spicy on the left, not so spicy on the right.

6-28-09 034

burgers.

6-28-09 043

6-28-09 047

if you are wondering, no that is not blood on the burgers. it is red wine.

my plate!

6-28-09 054

baked beans, blue cheese & red potato salad, california burger on a wheat bun with avocado relish & horseradish dijon mayo. and chedder, it’s better!

closer..

6-28-09 053 6-28-09 052

bubbley.

6-28-09 056

and some fruit.

6-28-09 057

after dinner i enjoyed a fashion show (right now i am singing, “fashion show, fashion show, fashion show at lunch!”…kelly from the office regarding pam’s fashion show..anyone?) put on by my mom, sister, nieces and nephews with all my leftover clothes from the yard sale! don’t laugh, some of this stuff was from ten years ago.

this fashion show was hilar.

6-28-09 080

you can’t tell, but those capris are baby pink with black pin stripes. so ugly!

6-28-09 082

my mom’s shorts and green T.. but that gem of a top was a freaking faux velvet shirt. it is volcom and from eleven years ago. it is so short and has bell bottom sleeves. and it was the coolest top on the planet.

6-28-09 083 6-28-09 063 6-28-09 064

isabella and i have the same size feets!

6-28-09 065

but kaylee and i don’t have the same size waist, apparently.

6-28-09 066

the boys dug my hats & necklaces.

6-28-09 068 6-28-09 069 6-28-09 073 6-28-09 075 6-28-09 076

she dressed herself. i love her.

after the fashion show we were all pretty laughed out.. and had a tiny appetite again.. well, of course, i also made dessert!

chocolate cheesecake brownies.

6-28-09 018 6-28-09 019 6-28-09 020 6-28-09 021 6-28-09 022

6-28-09 023

and

white chocolate raspberry blondies.

6-28-09 059

forgot to take a post-baked photo of both desserts.. but i did get them all together with some vanilla bean ice cream:

6-28-09 084

6-28-09 085

you will notice the gooey-factor on the blondies. coco, what is going on here? i followed the recipe to a T.. but got them runny in the middle.. like, ultra runny.  so then i made a vegan batch and reduced the amount of milk.. used barely a splash.. still runny in the middle! what gives?

but for the record, they were still PHENOM! everyone ate this dessert right up! hasta luego boxed brownie mixes!

i didn’t eat the rest of the day. i am sure you can see why ;)

MONDAY!

so, monday morning sales meeting brought the likely suspects for breakfast..

egg beaters + dry wheat toast. and coffee.

meals 003 meals 002

meals 001

i am getting real sick of the original pancake house. we eat there every monday morning and there are only so many egg beater combos i can get. and everything else is pretty bad for you. sigh, oh well. moving on!

i worked for 4 hours and then left to raging waters with the fam!!  my mom has some photos of the fun on her camera, i only have some eats photos.. so here they are..

apple + cinnamon PB.

(for some reason, it would not post the photo of this in live writer. so whatevs. imagine it).

eight million pounds of watermelon.

meals 004

meals 005

veggies & hummus.

meals 009

and i brought stuff to eat salad, but had no fork. the water park had not a one fork anywhere in the vicinity!

so i improvised and made little lettuce wraps w/ sprouts, chicken, hummus, cauliflower, broccoli, snap peas, peppers..

meals 014

graham crackers + PB2 + greek yogurt.

meals 016

and a whole slew of water.

when i got home today i saw my roomie jessica’s birthday cake her aunt made for her. it is SO FREAKING ADORABLE that i had to feature it on the blog!

before i show you, i gotta tell you about jessica. we call her rabbit, she loves snowboarding, winter & the beach.. this cake is perfect for her!

her aunt does this for fun.. but dang, she’s got a real talent! she should go cake-pro!

alright girls, i am beat. famished. exhausted. and i have not gone to the gym since last wednesday. shhh.. don’t tell anyone.

ugh, actually i am real mad at myself for this. no excuses janetha, but i have been busy having fun and haven’t made a huge effort to work out. and i can’t work out tomorrow either because i am going to work and then straight to the amusement park with the fam.  this is how it went down, and how i got here..

thursday: took that 2 hour nap, i honestly was so tired and i never take naps. i woke up and prepped for the yard sale instead of working out.

friday: prepped for the yard sale, date night with marshall.

saturday: yard sale, went up to brighton with friends, watched true blood until 1 AM

sunday: yard sale, family fun extravaganza

monday: work at 7 AM, raging waters

i am beating myself up inside over it to be honest with you all.  please tell me to get over it and reassure me that i can get back on the gym wagon wednesday.

please.

when you fall off the workout wagon (if that happens to you..that is) what is the best way to get your momentum back? how do you feel inside when you fall off the wagon? and maybe if you don’t struggle with exercise, answer this question with regard to anything in life.. clean eating, organization, keeping a clean room (my downfall), etc..

i feel like a slug. and i am mad at myself, but i guess not mad enough to workout at ten at night. yawn. sigh. good night!

I love your family! Mama is killin me in those poses! And the kiddies! Oh my goodness. Precious!

So about falling off the wagon. I suppose I haven’t fallen off in a long time. Actually, I don’t think it’s that. It’s just that when I haven’t eaten right for a few days, or haven’t worked out in a while, I never think I’ve fallen off. I don’t think of it as a negative thing. I always know that I’ll get back to my normal ways and routine in a jiffy. And if that jiffy turns out to be a week or so, so what. A body doesn’t change much in that time. You’ve just been living! Ain’t no shame in that game!

Actually, I think I “fall off the wagon” every weekend, but consider it to be normal. I eat well during the weeks so I can drank all weekend. Is that ok? Haha I’m kidding! Sorta.

Anyway, you know you’ll be back to your routine as soon as you can! Until then, just enjoy everything you’re doing and you’re company. As I know you will!

Lynn (The Actors Diet) June 29, 2009 at 11:24 pm

Don’t beat yourself up for falling off the wagon….we can’t compare ourselves to how we were before or how we will be – just where we are now. And right now, you have to honor that, for whatever reasons, you aren’t an exercise fanatic. Doesn’t mean you won’t be again. Just take it one step at a time and before you know it, you’ll be back in the saddle again.

insideiamdancing June 30, 2009 at 12:18 am

sorry about the burn (burned? burnt? NOOOO idea!)

The food looks amazing! Holy hummus porn, and red wine burgers? Can I come next time? :P Cheddar is definitely *the* best cheese. Hands down. The desserts look AMAZING!

Your nieces and nephews are adorable :)

Don’t beat yourself up about not working out- it’s surprising how much we energy we actually expend at amusement parks so that should count as some exercise! Plus, you’ve been BUSY- it’s not like you are just chilling out in front of the TV with no motivation to work-out. You’ve been LIVING and that’s the cool stuff you will look back and remember/cherish, not how many minutes you did on the elliptical!

enjoy your Tuesday x

Run Sarah June 30, 2009 at 12:24 am

Major food porn in this post – it looks amazing! I try not to feel the exercise guilt…theres no point and I find it makes me exercise even less. I try not to think about it and go workout to hop back into the routine!

Susan June 30, 2009 at 5:43 am

Wowowow, every dish at that bbq looks amaaaazing!! What feast!! And your fam is too cute. Both your mom and the kids! :) How did the baked beans recipe turn out? I’ve been wanting to try making them from scratch for a while….

Don’t worry about taking a few days off from the gym. Sometimes it’s more important to live life!!! The way I see it, I’m going to be working out for the rest of my life. So a few days off one week doesn’t really matter so much in the long run. So long as those few days off don’t turn into a few months off, you’re good to go ;)

jenngirl June 30, 2009 at 6:22 am

Looks like a really fun (and delicious) weekend!! And my friends and I ALWAYS do the “fashion show” ditty from The Office, haha kelly!

For me, when I can’t workout on my usual schedule I just get on track with it the next week, and leave what is in the past, in the past. Don’t beat yourself up, we ALL need breaks sometimes, and it may be hard because it was an “unplanned” break, but nonetheless, there’s no harm in it.

Have a good Tuesday!

Emily June 30, 2009 at 7:01 am

when I miss some workouts I definitely get upset, but I am LEARNING not to be too hard on myself. a day or a few days isn’t going to cause you to become spontaneously out of shape, especially if you are still eating well and getting enough sleep and stuff! as far as getting back into it, I just try to pick up exactly where I left off. like easy.

hm, i would use “burnt” as an adjective and “burned” as a verb. that seems reasonable to me.

have a great tuesday!!

ksgoodeats June 30, 2009 at 7:13 am

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY COW! Where do I begin? Love all of the BBQ dishes – you outdid yourself! The fashion show is hilarious and I love that you quoted The Office :D

That cake is amazing! I need to try the Greek yog/PB2/graham combo – PB2 goes with EVERYTHING! Sorry about getting burned :( I’m a whitey tighty so I feel your pain!

Don’t beat yourself up over not working out! You can always go to the gym another day – you enjoyed yourself with your family and friends, that’s a positive trade off!

april June 30, 2009 at 7:31 am

I get upset when I don’t workout for a while but what helps is doing little mini-workouts if I can’t get to a gym! ten minutes here, ten minutes there, it all adds up!

carolinebee June 30, 2009 at 7:43 am

OMG cutest little blondie kids eva!!! Haha your family looks hilarious, and that BBQ looks booombbb! Have u ever tried getting oatmeal at the b-fast place?? I’ve ordered it at IHOP a few times and it’s a nice switch up :D Just hit the gym or go for a walk/bike ride the next time u find yourself sitting with a free moment- I like to plan on calling a friend or walking to a store to get something which kind of “forces” me to do it!

Anne K. June 30, 2009 at 7:51 am

ooh put on some of that after-sun stuff, or aloe vera! sunburns are so painful. All your bbq food looks so yummy, and those fashion show pics are hilarious! Love it!

Oh my gosh, those brownies look incredible! Yum! What an adorable cake, too! Her aunt has some maja skillz!

Don’t beat yourself up about not working out. It’s okay, a few missed days won’t hurt you! Wednesday you’ll definitely be back on the wagon ;)
I feel icky when I don’t work out or eat well, but I try to chin up and move on. I remind myself that no one’s perfect, and this doesn’t “ruin” anything. All I have to do is try again, and I know I can do it. You can, too :)

Kailey June 30, 2009 at 8:11 am

i am OBSESSED with that winter cake :) too cute!!
aww the fashion show with all the kiddies looks adorable ! don’t stress over working out a few days won’t hurt you especially if your enjoying time with the family :)

Lara (Thinspired) June 30, 2009 at 8:48 am

YUM. I have never had homemade baked beans but your photos really make me want to try it!
Your family is adorable. How cute is your mom? Love the fasion show!

runningyogini June 30, 2009 at 9:45 am

That food looks OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! When I fall off the workout wagon, I’m usually mad at myself and in denial all at the same time. The best thing I can do is get out JUST for a short walk or a 10-15 minute quickie workout. Sometimes just dropping and doing some pushups will help me get my workout mojo back, but I definitely have a slightly chaotic workout schedule. Its also important to forgive yourself and try to get rid of your non-workout guilt. Say “its okay, everybody needs a break sometimes” and move on. Dr. George Sheehan talks about needing to take breaks from Running and the “relationship” he had with running and it was really interesting. I’m kind of a Sheehan nut :-) have a great day!!!

mayapamela June 30, 2009 at 10:17 am

Don’t worry about falling off the workout wagon, stressing will only make workouts seem like a bit of a burden. Remember one of the best things about exercise–the endorphins that make you feel good!

Kind of gooey brownies/blondies sound great to me!

gymratfoodie June 30, 2009 at 12:02 pm

As far as I know, burned is the past tense, and burnt is the past participle.
ie.

“I burned” vs
“I have burnt” and “I had burnt”

but I could be wrong :P

your photos are so vivid and I love your owl shirt!
PS. No beatin yourself up over the gym :) (not that I don’t do it sometimes……) but as far as I can tell you work out A LOT usually. Ask yourself what you would say to a friend who is bummed about not working out for a couple of days, and then treat yourself that way!

Jessica (jesslikesithot) June 30, 2009 at 12:15 pm

Hey Janetha! Sooo please girl, do not worry over this week’s lack of exercise! It’s in the past, so just get back to it when you find the time! Don’t go crazy and feel like you need to work out harder and longer this next week, just get back into it when you can! You’re enjoying yourself and livin’……nothing wrong with that! AND, you eat really well…so I wouldn’t worry! :)

LOVE those blondies from Coco’s blog!!! Ahhh, they look amazing. So does the red pepper hummus, guacamole, burgers, CAKE, etc etc!

And your mom is a cutieeee (but so are you!), I hope you’re having fun at the PARK!

Courtney June 30, 2009 at 12:45 pm

You shouldn’t be too hard on yourself girly, walking is the same motion as running, and you’ll burn the same amount of calories, just in a little more time. So how much walking and sliding and swimming and shizz did you do? Probably a lot more then you’re taking into account! :D You’re an xxx-pert in the food porn dept. ♥

Coco Knudson June 30, 2009 at 1:11 pm

Ahh!!! I don’t know why the blondies did that! I’m so sorry. I hope they tasted delish though. When I made my I stuck mine in the fridge right after I baked them to cool them quicker. I ended up just keeping them in the fridge and taking them out and slicing myself one whenever I wanted. They were better I think when they kept cool. Maybe that’s the reason. Your BBQ looked fabulous though!!

Holly (The Healthy Everythingtarian) June 30, 2009 at 2:27 pm

ummm, yes to all the eats. beans, guac, hummus!!!, blondies, cheesecake brownies – sometimes all those eats are worth falling off the wagon a bit :) no worries, just hop right back on, keep on trucking and don’t think about it – that always makes it worse!

julie June 30, 2009 at 2:40 pm

I am FEELIN all of that food girl!

Haha looks like you got some future models on your hands..but there may be more to life then being really really ridiculously good looking…

when I fall off the workout wagon I usually make a brand new ass kicking playlist that makes me want to workout. Give it a try!

Jenn@slim-shoppin June 30, 2009 at 3:08 pm

I got burnt too this weekend! On Friday, I went to the pool with my kids. My daughter tried to put sunscreen on my back, but it didn’t go so well!

I had splotches of redness all over my back where she missed the sunscreen!

homegirlcaneat June 30, 2009 at 5:25 pm

Your mom is hilarious!! ahahahaha and so photogetic! And those kids..ahhh adorable!! They all such divas!

That homemade meal looks fab. Burgers, hummus, salad(s)…life life life. And anything cheesecakey makes the perfect dessert.

Don’t beat yourself up for not working out! Life doesn’t always have to be about working out and eating super clean, it should be about being with your fam and friends and enjoying all the happiness! I fall off my normal routine on the weekends with coughsnackfacecough ;) due to lots of brews and laughs. DEF worth it though!

Lauren June 30, 2009 at 5:33 pm

Hysterical fashion show pics! All of the food looks insanely good. I want all of the recipes ;)

burpexcuzme June 30, 2009 at 8:46 pm

ok, here’s the deal: I won’t eat you with pasta if you share with me some of that amaaaaazing food! Oh my god…you’ve enjoyed some great feast, girl!

Don’t worry about a bit of rest…yeah, think of it as a “rest” not “falling off the wagon.” Because now your muscles are all warmed up for some active stuff, and you’ll enjoy it more!

Marisa (trim the fat) July 1, 2009 at 1:12 pm

Your mom is adorable!

Love those brownies and blondies!

tessa July 1, 2009 at 1:59 pm

oh my god your ma is hilarious!

i want that dessert right now! girl your my kind of lady, ain’t nothing betta than some gooey brownies and blondies plus some ice cream.

while i’m in school i seem to fall off he wagon every weekend. drinking plus over load of food and lack of exercise would means some tight ass jeans by monday! but i always look at each day as a new opportunity, even if ate terrible and didn’t exercise the day before.

have a good day chica!

Mom July 1, 2009 at 7:19 pm

Well the meal WAS terrific!! We ate ourselves silly didn’t we Neef??! I usually have some pearls of wisdom to share with your, but alas, my brain if fried from all that sun, water, swinging, etc etc!! As for the wagon routine, we both know tomorrow is another day. Remember how far you have come, how GREAT you look and what you have learned, that my dear will carry you through and get you back on the wagon. I too have not seen the inside of my gym lately, but I will tomorrow, see how easy that is!! I love you TOO TOO much!! xoxo
